Interior design ideas? Working with modern furniture in small condo!? I'm moving into a new condo. Long story short, it's owned by my boyfriend's uncle.... so he's giving me all of the furniture that's in there. It's a very small one-bedroom. I wish I had a picture, but I don't. It's got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther's shoulders and hips hold up the table. The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I'm willing to work with it. The only problem is.... I'm not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it's too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I'm bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige. Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I'm fine with turquoise but if there's another color that works better I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks!

Tips for redecorating my bedroom? I would like to redecorate my bedroom this week while the hubby (A fussy metrosexual with an interior design degree and who has redone the whole house in italian modern) is gone. I figure I should get atleast one room in my style! I love the glamour of the 1920's, flappers and old hollywood and would like to do my room in this theme. http://www.secondlooks.net/Gallery4/Hobbies/images/PA120020ee.jpg I have a vanity that looks a bit like this, but mine is walnut I have a Black brass bed with deep red taffeta bedding and gold throw pillows, I also have some misc things like a vintage radio, vintage 1920's dresses, old shawls etc. I have a cool lamp and chair, both with leopard print. So that is what I have to work with. What prints, acsessories, misc furniture, etc etc etc could you suggest. I guess what I need an nice atmosphere to the room, so any suggestions, would be appreciated!! I was thinking of using a movie like Chicago as an inspiration. My favorite colors to decorate are golds, deep red, rich blue, white, black. I love the sleekness art Deco, some Victorian is nice, but too much is over kill for me.

Do YOU have a good interior design suggestion? Currently, my home interior company is working on a large apartment in Northeast Ohio in a city based area. We are expecting a 20 something couple to move in. Their likes are "Americana" design, Old Country or Primitive, and modern day design. <> We would like suggestions from 20 something people as well on what they would like to see in their apartment. First let me give you an overall visual of the apartment. <> We are working with 3 bedrooms and a large living room, all in which have a medium blue colored carpet (at request) with dark walnut trim. All walls are white. We have a medium sized bathroom that is all white at the moment with a white and gold floor. The kitchen has a beigh floor, white walls and walnut trim. <> Mainly we are asking for THEMES for the rooms. We are open to any suggestions. If the couple likes an idea we use from Yahoo! Answers, then there will be a reward for the answeree who gave the suggestion. This reward is TBA since we have yet to show the couple what we have come up with. <> Thanks! -Quita Marietta- Interior Illusions
what are some good interior design tips for a beginner with this style...? My style is elegant victorian eccentric...not sure if that is a real category, but its a bit of victorian gothic baroque styles mixed with curious eccentric items. (terrariums, birdcages, things in jar, etc.) but not cheesy or modern gothic. Id like to decorate the living room and bedroom this way. If you know of any books or photos that will help please list them also.
Anyone good with interior design? Help me find bedding, curtains and paint colours that look good together!? Its for spare room - smallish double bedroom I want neutral shades and I want it to look modern. Everything is going to be new, carpet, wall paper/paint, lighting, curtains, bedding. HELP Links would be VERY useful (i'm in UK) FULL points for my fave answer.
Best interior design or lighting websites.? I'm changing the lighting in our bedroom to better match decor and wanted to get some ideas, but have been having a hard time finding good design sites for more traditional bedrooms. I like the idea of finding creative lighting schemes, but they all seem to be for modern/minimalistic decor, which is not my style. can anyone recommend a good design site with lots of images that is geared to more traditional styles?
I need some bedroom design advice? Hi everyone, Thanks for taking a look at my question. I am a guy and I just turned 16. I asked my parents, as part of my birthday gift, if I could have my bedroom remodeled (walls are baby blue from my younger years, old furniture etc. - it all needs to go!!!) - and they said yes. I don't have that much of a design "sense", if that's what you would call it, so I'm looking for help here. I'm unsure of the exact dimensions of the room, but my house was built in 1986 if that helps. I'd say the room is about the size of the interior of a one car garage. It also has one window. My uncle had a new double sized mattress left over from his guest bedroom when he sold his house, so he gave that to me and I am waiting until I get some advice before I put it in my room. I want my new bedroom to have a bold and "manly" look, while being modern, simple, and clean. I found a nice bedspread, and I would like to design the room around it, but I want to choose the right paint so that the room doesn't look like a cave (bedspread here: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11026874 ) . My floor is also a beige-ish shag carpet, if that helps. Any opinions on paint colors for the wall, lighting options, headboard options, bedroom furniture (computer desk, bureau, mirror), accents, and the like would be greatly appreciated. I do like brushed metal as well - I might be replacing some lightswitch covers and outlet covers with brushed nickel, silver etc. covers - any opinions?. Thanks so much! Picture the room as a square in your head. The door is at the bottom left of the square, there are two double closet doors ( [][] [][] ) on the right side of the square that take up most of the wall, one window on the wall opposite from the door in the middle of the room. The ceiling is 8 ft tall, the room is 13.5 X 13.5 feet. I don't really have a budget, I just want the room to look nice. But I don't want to go out and spend thousands of dollars. Yes, the mattress has a box spring.
Im decorating my room and need some help! I cant match a interior design to this wallpaper!? Ok so I fell in love with this pink poppie wallpaper ( http://www.ukwallpaper.co.uk/products/fine-decor-poppie.htm ) I chose it because I wanted something a little vintage with a modern twist for my bedroom. I also have a dusky pink silk emulsion for the rest of my walls as i'm only wallpapering the wall where my bed is. My furniture is white with a black trim and is again quite a vintage look. What kind of accesories could i use and what colours should i pick out!
What do you think about black interior doors? My husband and I are building a custom, and I would like to paint all our doors black. The floorplan is very open, and the kitchen and living room are basically one big room, which I painted a very bright yellow. Behr's "Bicycle Yellow," to be exact. The master bedroom, for which we chose very light, airy blues, extends from the living room. Of course, there is a guest bathroom in the living room, and a master bath in our room. Three closets in the living room, one in guest bath, one in master bedroom, one in master bath. Those are basically the only rooms on the main level. I'm definitely no pro at interior design, but from pictures I have seen, black doors with white trim look very nice. I'm looking for your opinion. Keep in mind, hubby and I are both in our 20s, and my in-laws (50s-ish) have made it very clear that they do not like the idea. My husband and I, however, love the modern look. What do you think about it, Yahoo community? (EDIT: the floors are a light wood, and our living room furniture is dark brown leather. I'm kind of nervous the browns might clash with black doors :-/) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3oUVMuDHnYY/S5z7APGyAoI/AAAAAAAAFW0/mLsNjOOS4XY/s400/black+bathroom+door.jpg That is what gave me my idea :) The blue and yellow are extremely close to my bedroom and living room colors! Thank you for all of your sweet answers! Also this: http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/Hallway-Beatles-Lyrics-HTOURS0207-de.jpg :D
Kurt Cobain Interior Design? Because it's quite obvious that Cobain is like an all-knowing modern day Jesus, I'm wondering what color he’d recommend for painting my bedroom. Would he have gone with an eggshell white or perhaps a lovely shade of my fav color bloody RED?
Color palate for bed room? Hi, I wanted some suggestions on what colors to use for a new, fresh and relaxing feel for my bedroom and or almost edgy, slightly sleek, and sexy room. I am definitely open to ideas in-between a more modern look and a vintage field, how ever if your ideas are more modern, I don't want it to be to polished and crisp. My main piece of furniture is a (ca king) white head bored (new) and one large/tall dark almost black dressers from my previously designed room. *from the hight of this headboard I plan on raising it just a bit so it don't seem too low compared to to the dresser. http://www.lafurniturestore.com/san-remo-leatherette-modern-bed.html this photo below is something I consider for a modern design, because it is slightly warm but a clean contemporary look. http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/modern/bedrooms/1369/index.html#/id-1751/room-bedrooms/color-purple However my choice in a head board is different so how could I bring a similar color palate to suet the white head board I love. or we can lean more towards a vintage look. More up to date though, like a sleek and sexy kind of way. to knock it out of the ball park, I'm interested in vintage wallpapers, more so like this photo below http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/174604/174604,1230594540,2/stock-photo-vintage-room-interior-22571128.jpg How ever, I can't stand the thought of it being on all four walls. Maybe a wall or two, one being on the same wall behind the head board. What could the other two wall colors be? I also have to lamp shades from target that has a very similar designed as the wallpaper, but it being black and white. Another idea I love is having two large/tall black and white photos above the head bored if I am to use wallpaper. I would like to also hear your intake on other ideas/color to go with the headboard. and I would like to know what I can do to combine my ideas with yours into a finnish look. -wall paint -comforter/pillow color -carpeting -curtains -etc Colors I Like: a range of dark and medium violets medium-light teal deep red dark pinks whites & light cream color Colors I would prefer not use: oranges yellow light pink the color blue its self including baby blue any shades of tropical green and GRAY Thank you for your time and I can't wait to hear your ideas (:
how to design and create an illusion of more space in my bedroom? Please. Help. Me. I'm seriously clueless when it comes to interior design. I'll give a description for you! My sister and I shared a room, the room is about... medium ish size. In the room we had two modern, low to the ground, twin beds. The door is near the left size, you walk in, my bed is to the left, closest to the door, and straight ahead is my sister bed under the window. BUT. my cousin just moved in and we are thinking of positiong our beds in a horse shoe way... It will be crammed, we are going to ikea to get another bed like ours. How do I make the room look bigger and les clutter?! Are their colors I should go with? Our sheets are matching, all plum, light blue, and green. And we are young women here. So we want trend! Help?!

New York Room Decorating Questions? Ok, so I went to NYC this summer and absolutely LOVED it! I want to redo my room into an urban style room but I have some questions. Is NYC decor more modern and chic? http://besttopdesign.com/interior/ikea-2010-interior-and-furniture-of-bedroom-design-examples/ (the first pic) or http://www.decorpad.com/photos/2008/03/27/6a52b8c68462.jpg or is it more bright and busy? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/hallway (picture number 4) I really love all these but I'm not sure how to incorporate NYC stuff with the chic look. I would really love to get some black and white skyscraper wall art. I guess I have my inspirations: something like this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70152655 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70152655 or http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00128819 but i also want to hang up these too (sorry about all the links) http://cdn2.ioffer.com/img/item/846/794/41/o_PAE31117.jpg and some sort of a beatles poster. I love bright colors AND I love the chic look but I'm just not sure which path to take... HELP!
Bedroom Colour Scheme for a 17yr old ? hey there my mum and i live in Australia and are moving to an apartment/flat and i want to design my room myself (mum has bad taste :P ) anyhoo i need a good colour scheme or theme....i am thinking of black, red and white, with the feature wall painted black. i need some suggestions... to help you out i love the modern contemporary look, i am not very girly but im no tom boy and i would like the bedroom to suit my age now and later on. it would be great to get an interior designers point of view p.s. the room is kinda small and square shaped if that helps.
Interior decorating advice wanted? Okay for all you interior decorators out there I got a question for you. I'm redecorating my bedroom. I have all black furniture in my room: a black shelving space with frosted glass doors, a black dresser, with silver knobs, and a black comforter and pillow set with soft white trim. My beds headboard it wrought iron with an intricate lace design and an antique earthtone coloring (out of place I know but I'm hoping yall's advice will help me tie it in... or I'll just have to get rid of it and get a new headboard). What I need from yall is advice on a paint color that would look good with all the black and add more color, without being overwhelming, and a good color for curtains. I have huge cathedral windows in my room that face the east so whenever the sun is out it's extremely bright in my room, definately something to be taken into consideration, although I'm hoping the right curtains will help too. A little about me and my tastes: I am 20 years old and a fashion merchandising and communications major. I definately like a modern look but not something that will become outdated any time soon. I love cool colors like blues and greens but wouldn't be totally against earth tones or warm colors provided that they aren't too juvenile. What do you suggest?
Can the rooms in a house be of different styles? I'm doing a project for school that involves designing the floor plan of a mansion and doing interior design for the newly designed mansion. However, I'm wondering if the various rooms in the mansion can be of different styles. I'm working in the postmodernist style for the architecture. The mansion itself has a Baroque front with a more modern-style back (lots and lots of windows). For the master bedroom, I want the furniture to be Baroque. For the living room, I want it to be contemporary. So is it okay that the rooms in the mansion are based on different styles or does all the furniture design have to be Baroque-style or contemporary-styled, etc?
What color scheme should I have for my room? We just moved out to California and are renting a house for a year. My bedroom has dark brown carpets and a creamish white color on the walls. The closets are mirrors with a gold trim in case that helps. I love interior design but the house isn't permanant so i don't want to spend a fortune either! I'm 13 and want a modern french look. I really like the scheme of red, black, white and gray in a bedroom but with the brown carpet, I don't want to use cooler colors. I want a very serene, calming place where I can relax, study and read. The house has a more modern farmhouse feel and is very quaint and cute. It needs to be practical enough for 13 13 year old girls to be in but also, like I said before, calming. Remember I would like: ~French inspired ~Modern ~Fitting with a brown carpet and light cream walls ~Calming and serene ~Practical enough for 13 year old girls And most of all ~Cheap enough! I'll only be in the house for a few more years until college! Please help!
How to make it better? So my family and I are planning on moving either this summer or next summer. We went house hunting a few days ago and found a great house and I think they made an offer on it. There is only one problem--it's furnished. We would rent the house 10 months of the year and the people who own it stay there in the summer so it must be furnished for them. There is a good chance that we will get the house (we get along well with the people who are renting it, we have a lot in common, we can pay full asking price, etc) I don't want to get my hopes up too much but just in case. The room I will have is the study/4th bedroom. It is very big, bookshelves in the walls, wetbar (not that I need it lol) they have a day bed but my parents said that I can move a twin bed from my sister's maybe new room (it has two) into the study and use the day bed for sleepovers. The room's furniture is not really my style but I can't really move very much. Like I can get rid of the rug and stuff and get new curtains if I want but I feel that my style would clash with what is already there (I like modern contemporary stuff) and we would only stay their for a year or two (we want a place that we can really make our own) so I don't want to get anything not my style just to match the room. I am big on interior design so this is kind of important to me. My dad said he would give me $200 to spend on room stuff overall, like I wouldn't spend it all now- I would wait until we get a different house to get furniture (he would buy the bed and desk and stuff). So does anybody have any idea how I can make the room my own without clashing with the stuff that is there for under $200? Thanks! Sorry for the length lol.
Needing help choosing a business name...? I am currently taking an enterprise management class. In this class we have to make a business plan like we were really starting our own business. Well, I have chose to start an interior store. Now i have to pick out a name and i cant come up with anything! I need a catchy modern and cute name that would appeal to a younger grounp of adults (20's-late 30's) thank you soo much!
Question for interior designers, my house needs decorating!? Hi there, I'm trying to design my new house and hoping someone can give some creative advice. The house is a patio type home, very floridian with the tile roof and all. We had the opportunity to customize the home and choose to do a tile floor throughout the house (we have two dogs and it is so much easier to keep clean). The tile is a golden brown color. It is very open concept and the living room and dining room and in the same space as one huge rectangular room. The kitchen sits right outside that rectangle but is open to the space (you can walk from dining room straight into kitchen with no walls.) The ceiling is huge and vaulted to one side. It angles up. So my design style is very modern, almost industrial with some beachy chic elements too. I would really like to do a semi circle couch and a glass dining room table. My only concern is that tile floor. Would a modern/industrial style be okay? I also have a problem with wall color. The room is just so huge and I don't want it to be some boring beige. I love jewel tones as accents and adore teal and aqua marines. I want the furniture to look like it belongs in the home but at the same time, I don't want it to be traditional. The neighborhood is so cookie cutter that I feel like guests should be shocked (in a good way) when they come inside. Also, for the bedrooms. Again, the tile floor is in there and I'm wanting to put in some modern furniture but ideas would be great. Also material ideas. I love glass, steel, any metals, dark woods and very light woods. Any ideas are welcome! Thanks!
What is a good house for my Sims 2 family? I have a new family, one adult couple, two teens (one boy, one girl), and a small pet dog. I am looking for a house with 3 bedrooms 1.5-2 bathrooms (preferably one on each floor), a living room with a TV, either a game room or home office with a computer, and a one or two-door garage with a (sport-)car(s). I'd also like the rooms to be modern but still simple. And the house must have a kitchen with good appliances, a dog bed, a dog dish, and a few other pet items. It would be nice to have a pool/hot tub too. Price is no object but I don't really want a huge fancy 3-story mansion. I have the following Sims 2 Expansion Packs: Glamour Life Stuff IKEA® Home Stuff Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff Nightlife Pets Seasons and Teen Style Stuff I was thinking of something sort of like this: http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/lot_detail.php?asset_id=741692&searchPage=exch&search=1&asset_type=lot&key=&order=CREATION_DATE+desc&nrows=8&game_version=&custCont=&zoneType=-1&lotSize=&lotLevel=&apartmentSize=&lotValue=&familyFund=&familyWorth=&familySize=&locality=&country=&view=feature&hideFramework=&languageCode= but with a garage and some pets stuff. It DOESN'T have to be like that! It was just a suggestion as to the type of place I'm looking for..
How much would you pay for a home in Denver, Colorado? I'm an Interior Designer working on a big housing project for the company I work for, and I decided to ask real people what they think their rent costs should be. I'm very anti-corporation, and we all know big companies inflate the prices of homes to turn profit which they don't even need. So I want your opinions on what you think is right and wrong based on your yearly income and family situation. How much would you pay monthly for... 2 levels, Ibdrm, 1/1/2 bath, 1125 sq feet 125 sq foot balcony, 300 sq foot backyard, 125 sq foot side yard 1 car garage (with extra outdoor parking) Would be perfect for: a single, or a couple with no children 2 levels, 2 bdrms, 2/1/2 bath, 1800 sq feet 350 sq foot backyard, 150 sq foot side yard 1 car garage (with extra outdoor parking) Would be perfect for: a couple/single with one older child, or two smaller children. 2 levels, 3 bdrms, 2/1/2 bath, 2350 sq feet 100 sq foot balcony, 600 sq foot backyard, 175 sq foot side yard 2 car garage (with extra outdoor parking) Would be perfect for: any family 3 levels, 5 bdrms (1 of which should be a guest bedroom, or office space), 3 bath, 4400 sq feet 400 sq foot balcony, 1000 sq foot backyard, 400 sq foot side yard 2 car garage (with extra outdoor parking) Would be perfect for: any family When the project is done there should be 4 of each of these types of homes. 16 homes in all. Two neighborhoods, with a community area connecting them. Each home will have a back porch that is properly portioned according to the size of the backyard and house. There are lots of storage spaces in each home. Pets welcome. No moving-in deposit, and no pet fees. The community area will not be open to the public, it will only be open for those who live in either neighborhood and their guests. We want to promote safety by not letting uninvited outsiders inside. The community area will include a pool (with two small slides and other small attractions), a clubhouse (kind of like a billiard/ballroom type space with wifi access, a snack bar, a meeting room, and restrooms), a playground, a walking trail, and a community garden. A few more things to factor into the monthly cost and desire of living in this space is that the general design of these homes has a very pleasant earthy, old world, eclectic vibe with modern twists. Each house has a few hidden rooms (meaning your laundry room may be hidden behind a door that appears to be nothing more than a typical shelf upon first glance), and the whole design scheme is the perfect combination between whimsical and elegant. If you could please list how much exactly you would be willing/able to pay monthly for each of the 4 houses listed above-keeping the mind the neighborhood amenities, cost of living in the Denver area, your yearly income, the typical/average cost for those kind of homes in the area, and your personal opinions-that would be great. I sure do hope I didn't make any typos... Thanks :]
what should i do? Any ideas? hey there my mum and i live in Australia and are moving to an apartment/flat and i want to design my room myself (mum has bad taste lol :P ) anyhoo i need a good colour scheme or theme....i am thinking of black, red and white, with the feature wall painted black. i need some suggestions... to help you out i love the modern contemporary look, i am not very girly (so not too much pink) but im no tom boy and i would like the bedroom to suit my age now and as i get older it would be great to get an interior designers point of view p.s im nearly 18yrs old
Interior design ideas? Thanks!
