Master Bedroom makeover help!? We have a very large 16x19 master bedroom. It has cheap 4-year-old beige and boring carpet and a bit darker beige walls. We have a very nice and contemporary bedroom set in a dark chocolate color. That’s pretty much it. We are trying to figure out what would make the biggest impact… Spend most of our money in very nice wood/laminate flooring, and a few touches of design like wall art, lamps and new bed covers; OR save the money from the wood/laminate floors and buy more furniture, wall mart, a large TV for the wall, better bed covers, etc. I’m thinking that if we skip the wood/laminate floors that the boring carpet will always be an eye sore… BUT going with the wood/laminate flooring will pretty much max out our budget for the makeover… What would you do?

Some Ideas for a Contemporary-looking bedroom? Since My college doesn't have enough dorms for all of their students, i'm stuck living at home for the next four years and i've decided to redcorate my room. I've decided on a look I want and what bedroom set i want but i can't decide on what I want to do with my walls. My new bedroom set is all black wood with glass on the top of the night stands. the glass almost has a light blue tint to it but i don't know if it would make a huge difference if my walls didn't match it. All of my bedding will be black and white along with everything else in my room. the only color i want in my room is on my walls. Hwever, i don't know what colors I should go for. I'm thinking of going for a darker teal or a medium pink color but i'm not sure which shades would work with the look i'm going for. Any suggestions on colors? Also, any ideas on how to paint it? I know I want solid colors but should I just paint one wall or do all 4 or etc.? Suggestions for bedroom set with lots of storage? I just moved and the bedrooms in my new home are a fraction of the size they were in my other home and the closets are basically worthless... So, I'm trying to find a way to accommodate the stuff I had from my old house into a smaller bedroom with no closet space and it isn't easy. I'm trying to find a bedroom suit that will provide lots of storage and look great. I had a bedroom picked out before I moved, but it ended up that the company no longer made it, so I was unable to get it. Remodeling a tomboy-ish teen girl's bedroom...? I'm a teenage girl and my parents are going to FINALLY paint the bedrooms next summer. We've lived in our house for two years and they haven't got around to painting the chipping white walls yet. So... The reason I say I'm tomboy-ish is because I absolutely hate pink and purple. I'm going to paint my walls a dark chocolate brown because it's like my neutral color; I'll never hate it. Platform bed or traditional? If you are under 30 and living in a small 1 bed room apt..would you buy a traditional matching bedroom set for $1300 or a nice contemporary platform bed for $250 and spend some extra bucks on dresser/mirror that dont match with the bed

What colour should I paint my bedroom walls? My husband and I bought this contemporary bed set just before christmas. The sheets are satin black, with matching pillow cases and the blanket has lots of horizontal stripes that are varying shades of black and grey. We were going to paint our bedroom walls a very light grey to match it, and then have our cherry wood furniture, plants, and photographs to add colour to the room. Well, a member of our church bought us this beautiful bedset for christmas. It's chocolate with some gold swirly-flowery looking things on it, chocolate sateen sheets, and comes with the fancy decorative pillows. It really is a beautiful set that I absolutely love, but we literally just bought a bedset. I don't want to get rid of either of them, and I don't want to put one in storage until we're "ready" for it, so I'm wondering if there is a wall colour that will match both the black and grey contemporary bedspread, and the chocolate and gold swirly bedspread these are all good suggestions, but the thing is..the black and grey bedspread is striped with several different shades of grey all through it. Every stripe is a different shade, so I'm hesitant to mess with warmer colours like orange or red because it seems like a solid wall of that colour would clash with all the different shades of stripes. Also, someone asked about this...the chocolate bedspread is solid chocolate, with the exception of some gold swirls..there aren't any other colours in that bedspread.

Teenage Girl Bedroom? I had a debate on if I should go contemporary or classical for my bedroom furniture, and I decided that I should just go with the furniture that suits my bedroom better, and so I bought a classical bedroom collection. My problem now is that my mom told me that she is going to get me a plasma screen to put on my wall, but I don't know if that will go with my room theme. What do you think? Where to go for better option of crib sets? My daughter and I will share a bedroom and I want to find a crib set that is elegant and pretty... NOT cartoony or contemporary... Creating my own King size headboard...HELP!>? I would like to create my own King Size headboard for our bed. I've been shopping for new bedroom sets and nothing is quite what I am looking for. I seen an episode of that home make over show and there was one where they made a headboard. I'm going to have it against a red wall and my theme is contemporary, black white red. The picture in my head is black... with button stitches... or dark wood black, with a red centered (not sure the word I am looking for) pudgy, pillowing kinda part that has the cris cross stitching with button accents... I am probably not explaining it right... Any idea where to start and how to go about this project? My husband is a general contractor and thinks I am nuts and just wants me to go buy one.... Any other ideas of how to create a headboard? I was also thinking of no head board and simply hanging like a black panel against the wall and draping it to look like a headboard......I am no interior designer thats for sure but I am looking for the cheapest, best looking design, and original!! Definately original.. Room color scheme Brown and Pale Blue? I am in the process of decorating my bedroom. The floor is walnut colored hardwood. My furniture is a dark espresso color and my comforter set is primarily brown with pale blue lines. My question is: What color paint should I consider for the wall? Where can I find cool furniture (inexpensive...) in the Chatham County area, NC? How can I paint my bedroom walls? So my room is a bit bigger than average size, its basically a square except where the door is it pops out a bit. one wall has a 2 door closet, and directly across from that is a big window in the middle of the wall. What bedding colors would match with deep plum walls? I've recently painted my medium sized bedroom a deep plum. I think it looks amazing, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which color bedding would go best. I already have a pale and dark purple bed set on my full sized bed, but I don't want to overwhelm the room in purple. And' I've also just purchased a queen sized mattress so Its time to switch it up. Since my room isn't huge I was figuring that I already have enough dark colors in my room and that light colored bedding would probably work best. The only thing I can think of is silver or gray. I need some teen girl bedroom decorating ideas? I'm almost 16 now, and I got a new bedroom set for my 13th birthday. I was in love with it then, but now I've realized that I have sooo much furniture in my room. My bed takes up the entire center of my room, and it can't be moved because it has a headboard with shelves as well as book shelves on either side. How can I make my bedroom look more open? Also, my walls are currently a pretty lavender color, but it doesn't match my personality at all. I'm not girly, and I don't want a chic or girly room. I want to to be contemporary, and I want it to show of my love for music. I already have these really cool music frames on my walls and a music-note quilt on my bed. One thing I really want to do is change my curtains. I'm happy with my plain white curtains but it's the sheer that hangs over them that I don't love any more. They have pink and purple butterflies all over them and a lime green layer that goes across. I love the green part, so I want to keep that. I had to write about "The Story of an Hour" By Kate Chopin, and write an essay about how Mrs. Mallards actions tell us alot about the lives and roles of women in the 1800's. Kate Chopin’s short story “The Story of an Hour” greatly depicts the role of women in their society. Set in the late 1800’s, the main character, Mrs. Mallard, is a perfect example of the typical woman in this time period. The news of her husbands tragic death would fill most with a sense of depression, however Mrs. Mallard feels somewhat relieved. She finally feels as if she has the freedom she’s been deprived of for so long. This freedom means so much to her, that upon finding that her husband is, in fact, alive, her sorrow leads to her death. As she sits alone in her room, and stares out the window, she comes to new realizations. It is these thoughts and feelings and her management of her tragic loss that tells readers so much about the lives of women in the time periods and societies in which they reside. Upon hearing that her husband has passed, Mrs. Mallard takes leave of her friends and goes to be alone in her bedroom. She is there for only an hour, but in this hour, her life seems to change. She feels as though she should be sad that her husband is no longer with her, but she cannot deny that intense joy that seems to flood through her body. “Free, free, free!” (pg.198) She repeats these words several times. Free. To Mrs. Mallard, this word means so much more. It means happiness, independence, truly living. She becomes excited, as she stars to think about a new day, and the very near future that will “belong to her absolutely.” (pg. 198) It is as if she was a bird locked away in a cage, and someone left the door open for her to fly free for the first time. This gives one great insight to the lives of women in the 1800’s. Obviously, Mrs. Mallard has little freedom in her household and feels as if she is being held down. Single women lived to become married, and married women lived for their husbands, not for themselves. When Mr. Mallard is believed to have passed away, Mrs. Mallard knew that she is now free to do as she pleases. The relationship between men and women during the 1800’s was one that gave women very limited freedom. Women were bound to the household and were responsible for cooking, cleaning and making sure that everything was prepared and ready for her husband when he got home from work. From early childhood, women were taught how to become the perfect housewife, and the perfect mother. Peer pressure from society lead them to believe that there was nothing else, and women kept this goal to maintain the status quo. After marriage, all of a woman’s belongings then became possessions of her husbands. More important than that, however, was that the woman also became part of her husbands property. Being unable to work at the time, and once married, women would have little time to enjoy to themselves, as so much of it was devoted to their husbands and households. Mrs. Mallard wishes for something different. She wishes to be out on her own. To live her life the way she wants to. This freedom that she acquires brings new meaning to her life, and gives it new value. It means so much that her life is in fact ended, when her husband walks through the door an hour later. She dies right there in front of him, the minute he comes home and she realizes that all of this would go away, and that her life would return to normal. The doctors said that she had died of “joy that kills,” (pg. 199) implying that Mrs. Mallard had been so happy to see her husband alive, that she died. The irony in this is that it was, in fact, her sorrow that had killed her. Today, things have changed drastically, however. Previously, if a girl was not married off at a young age, she was viewed on by society as an outcast. In today’s culture, many women never marry, and there is nothing wrong with that. Divorce is available for women now, which would have greatly pleased Mrs. Mallard, who felt so trapped, that she believed that nothing short of death could set her free. With equal opportunities, and a new respect for women, there is no ownership and no pressure from society to act a certain way. Women are free. Free to do as they wish, free to think as they’d like, free to dress in any way, and free to work. Given the information from the story, and based off of Mrs. Mallards views and dreams and her desire for her own independence, it can clearly be stated that Mrs. Mallard would have been much happier living in these far more contemporary times where she could have more independence, more rights, and more freedom.
