How to Jazz up your bedroom? "The bedroom is your own personal space," , "use your imagination to make it your own personal haven." Avoid ornate designs for cupboards and other furniture in your bedroom. Stick to simple, modern designs. These look better in the long run. Using a laminate on the furniture is a good option in the bedroom. There are some great designs and colours available in laminates nowadays. Why use laminates? ~They offer a clean finish. ~They are easy to maintain (almost scratch-resistant) and can be cleaned with soap and water
design for an old Italian inspired bedroom? I'm moving and I want my new room to have this total old Italian influence; I want to walk in and feel like I'm in Italy. Crazy I know. Vintage/modern/punk/scene/rocker/skater bedroom designs!? OKAY lets get a few facts straight here first before going on - I'm a 15 year old girl, my favorite color is orange, i love animal print, vintage things (like records, phones, 1967 chevy impala is my dream car) i love the rocker, skater, and scene, punk, styles,(not emo or goth cause of all the black) but i'm not a poser. I DONT like pink, but only in small amounts. I HATE PASTELL COLORS and LOVE bright and vivid! I love diamonds, art, and LOVE LOVE LOVE unique things that no one else likes or has in their rooms. Basically I'm changing rooms to the room upstairs-its bigger than my old one. I just need Ideas! LOTS OF THEM. but I want it so that I'll still like the room when i'm 18...ya know? so nothing to girly. So far what I've been thinking is wall 1 - the black chalkboard paint to give it an edgy look, but alse so i can get neon chalk and draw on it!=D wall 2, 3, 4 - I'm not sure yet for a color - i was thinking a brighter green, or bright orange. but NOT blue - my old room is blue and i hate it. Trimming and doors - white I already have a zebra rug/sheets, leopard chair/blanket, giraff and tiger pillows, so i think thats enough animal print haha my furnature is a lighter brown wood, and no, i can't paint it or re-do the colors=/ so I have to work with that. But what are some cool ideas to make my room unique and interesting, mixing the vintage/modern/scene/rocker/skater/punk??????? ahhhh help please! MIXING THOSE. Not just one. ONE OF a KIND UNIQUE IDEAS!!!! Aha not the ideas everyone has. easy 10 points for whoever puts the most creative, and unique ideas, with pictures and links hopefullly=)
I need some bedroom design advice? Hi everyone, Thanks for taking a look at my question. I am a guy and I just turned 16. I asked my parents, as part of my birthday gift, if I could have my bedroom remodeled (walls are baby blue from my younger years, old furniture etc. - it all needs to go!!!) - and they said yes. I don't have that much of a design "sense", if that's what you would call it, so I'm looking for help here. I'm unsure of the exact dimensions of the room, but my house was built in 1986 if that helps. I'd say the room is about the size of the interior of a one car garage. It also has one window. My uncle had a new double sized mattress left over from his guest bedroom when he sold his house, so he gave that to me and I am waiting until I get some advice before I put it in my room. I want my new bedroom to have a bold and "manly" look, while being modern, simple, and clean. I found a nice bedspread, and I would like to design the room around it, but I want to choose the right paint so that the room doesn't look like a cave (bedspread here: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11026874 ) . My floor is also a beige-ish shag carpet, if that helps. Any opinions on paint colors for the wall, lighting options, headboard options, bedroom furniture (computer desk, bureau, mirror), accents, and the like would be greatly appreciated. I do like brushed metal as well - I might be replacing some lightswitch covers and outlet covers with brushed nickel, silver etc. covers - any opinions?. Thanks so much! Picture the room as a square in your head. The door is at the bottom left of the square, there are two double closet doors ( [][] [][] ) on the right side of the square that take up most of the wall, one window on the wall opposite from the door in the middle of the room. The ceiling is 8 ft tall, the room is 13.5 X 13.5 feet. I don't really have a budget, I just want the room to look nice. But I don't want to go out and spend thousands of dollars. Yes, the mattress has a box spring.
What are good colours and design scheme for a bedroom? My bedroom has been the same old colours for a long time now, and so I've decided to re-do all the walls, (I'm thinking paint instead of wallpaper) and re-colour the skirting boards etc. The carpet colour is creamish white, and the ceiling is white so the walls need to go with that. The furniture is a dark brown colour. I like wacky and weird schemes, which means my ideas always end up in bright orange walls with stylistic swirls and flowers on them, so I need some gorgeous ideas that wouldn't overpower the room so much. I love the "modern flower design" - Don't know what its called! Those stylistic large flowers, almost stencil like, and I like pretty much any colour (apart from bright green! >_<) I would like it to look modern and exciting, but not be far too overpowering for a bedroom - nothing boring please, I like my things to look just that little bit more awesome and different to the mainstream. What do you think I could do?
need help with modern design scheme and other rooms? Hello! I really need help with design scheme for a few rooms. I would like to do a modern theme red, black, white, silver type colors for the living room and kitchen. I was thinking maybe light gray walls in the living room. Most of the furniture I will be getting is black. The sectional is black and gray and I thought I would get red throw pillows to put on it. In the kitchen I was thinking of painting it red but I don't know? I don't want it to be too overwhelming, any suggestions? Hoping to go with a Chef theme in there. Okay, and for other rooms I also need ideas. Boyfriend says it would be too much to continue the same colors in our bedroom and I should go for a completely different color. I love purple and blue also but I think it would look funny to have the modern theme going in the kitchen and living room then change to other colors but I could be wrong. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Modern interior design links...? hey friends...can you send me of a good website links showing modern interior design photos - living room, bathrooms, master bedroom?thanks thanks
Bedroom design ideas...? We're moving to a new house and I need some ideas for my bedroom. I'm 15, don't want bright funky colors, I prefer the modern look--like a master bedroom. I've got tons of books and posters right now, a desk, a dresser, and a nightstand. I have a single sized bed. If anyone has pictures, or decorating ideas that would be great! Thanks!

Teen bedroom design/color help? Ok, im 14, ive been living here sense i was six. We have never updated my bedroom, and it still has the 70s wood panneling. Lol. Im a modern skater girl type, and we are painting and re-fernishing my bedroom, but we cant take down the panneling because there cousld be toxic paint behind it because the house is 150 years old, so we will just have to deal with the ruts in the paint. i would like to do something like a grey and orange kinda thing, with oranv highlights, but we have old cherry oak floors so i dont know if that would go so well. Could someone please help me with a color ideas kinda with that two color theme with a pop of color? This is a hard decision for me and i have to have my decision by tuesday!!! Help please!
bedroom design help? I'm really stuck!? (keep in mind I'm a teenager, so try to keep it kinda young, but I'm 16 so not too young) So I'm having my room redone and I need help. If anyone remembers, in one of the seventeen magazines there's an article that says "17 ways to redo your room" they have this super pretty background with pink and white. Here's a link: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=33794085 but here's the problem, I'm having one wall this design, and the other walls white. But then there's furniture for example a dresser where I don't want it black because I don't like the dramatic contrast. But a white dresser might just blend it and be plain and not to mention it might not look that modern. So I'm really stuck, does anyone know how to keep a room light and girly without it being babyish and keeping it modern? I'd love some help!
Decorating your bedroom? Hi, I'm a college male very interested in modern styled bedrooms. I recently moved into a new apartment and my room perfectly meets my desired size and looks in general. The type of room that I like is this: http://www.plastova-okna-praha.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/modern-design.jpg But of course, my bedroom is nowhere of that size/looks nor will it probably look as nice. I already bought a bed of my own likings and a desk, but I'm having trouble arranging them. My friend who majors in architecture/design told me there are "unwritten rules" of decorating, such as hanging odd numbers of wall frames instead of even numbers, clocks being in the center, and the first visual impression of the room arrangements. I can no longer reach him anymore because he's left to a different country, and I was very interested in reading things like that, if it existed. So could you guys give me general tips or links to a website that has these modern styled bedroom decoration "tutorials?" Thanks a lot!
Bedroom design? I am thinking about redecorating my bedroom but I have no idea what I want to do. I am in high school so I want something fun and interesting but not over the top. I kind of like modern victorian style things and my intrests include music, writing, and reading, but if you have any other cool ideas I would love to see/hear about them-- pictures would be greatly appreciated! When I said modern victorian, I meant the designs with the victorian patterns but with bright, bold colours and lines-- sorry if that confused anybody, I'm not very good with those kinds of words :)
Master Bedroom Design help!? I just bought this bedding with the euro shams, and black shams. (No accent pillows or anything else.) I want to incorporate a rust color like what they have in the picture with the flowers on the nightstand. http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/x6.aspx?CatNum=7226735&JSEnabled=false&hdnOnGo=true&cmResetCat=true&CmCatId=searchresults I want more of a modern/contemporary look. What should I use for accent pillows or art above the bed? Any suggestions? Put your design expertice to work here for me, please?
Teen bedroom design help? Hi, i'm 15 years old and am completely redecorating my room. It's currently lilac with big pine furniture and i want a more modern and stylish look. Any tips please? My rooms quite large and the shape is unsymmetrical as all the walls are different shapes and lengths. I can't do a feature wall, as all my walls are uneven and it would look wierd. I'm thinking of a neutral creme colour, and leather bed and black furniture, although im unsure. Any help on colours or design choice for the walls, eg: paint, border etc. Any advice on furniture styles/colours too? I'm on a budget so anything too expensive won't be able to be bought. Many thanks :) x
Black + Pink bedroom design help.? Okay. So I am wanting to redo my room but not furniture. I was planning on 3 walls an off-white color, the other a dark pink. And, a border around my room in the middle of the walls that is the same dark pink. My bed's headboard will be against the pink wall and I will have a black and white floral bedspread: Botanica Bed in a Bag from Walmart. I want a black saucer chair and a black and pink beaded door thingie. Does that sound like itd look kinda modern/classy? And if no, what should I do? And any tips/ideas/suggestions to improve the design are awesome! Thanks! Thanks for all the help so far :) I remembered something. I forgot where I saw it though. But anyway, since I'm going with a modern thing but with floral stuff, do yall think it might look cool with a poster (not overly large) of a non face card of clubs?like maybe a 3 or a 7 or an ace? Any thoughts? Thanks :)
Teen Girl Bedroom Design? We're getting a vacation house this year, so I need to design my room. I kind of have an idea..but I kind of don't. The rooms aren't going to be huge, so this is what I have. I'm thinking either a daybed (really cute and not very expensive) or maybe a loft bed (also cute, more space for storage, etc.) Either will work. I'm thirteen, and my favorite color is blue. I like being modern and fashionable not like cute, little girl rooms. I don't want the whole thing blue. So the room is most likely going to be a small to medium sqaure room. Could you pick me out a cute daybed, or loftbed (on a website like Ikea, I don't just want pictures..It must be able to be purchased!), A comforter, a dresser, a chair, end table, lamp, and some room accesories will win you the best answer. All ideas are apreciated. Thanks so much!
teen girl bedroom design redo? well im 14 and redesigning my room soon and i need some more modern stuff. also the color is going to be like a turquoise so if there are any websites like pbteen then pleaseeeee post..thanks

Bedroom design help (teen girl)? I am possibly getting my room re-done this summer (for my birthday) and was wanting something modern but cool. I already have a few ideas in my head, but the thing is, I don't want to be costing my mum and dad a heap! I will also be contributing money to the furniture and things, so they won't be paying for everything, but it would be really good if I could get everything at a reasonable price. My ideas were: -A double bed with storage. (This one isn't really an idea because I do need a new bed.) -A ball chair. (They are cool and look comfortable! They are quite expensive though..) -A wall sticker of Freddie Mercury or any inspiring quotes or song lyrics. -Some kind of wardrobe that isn't too chunky and is not wooden. -A whiteboard or something? Anything that I can kind of use to put on reminders and photos, etc. -A funky bedside lamp. I would like to have a completely new room from what I have right now, which is all girly. I feel like I need a more grown-up room, but still one that isn't too old for me and is modern. I am obsessed with the band Queen so any Queen related products that I could put in my new room would be a bonus! Also, I am sorry if I have come across as picky and fussy and spoilt, but I just want to make sure that my room ends up perfect, and I really need help finding websites and stores in the UK to buy these things for my room. Plus, I have saved up since my last birthday to get money for the room and am still saving at the moment. Any help would be appreciated. Links are good as well. Thanks :) Oh, and the colour theme would probably be black and another colour, but I still need to decide on the other colour.

Modern room makeover, design flared ppl needed? About to undergo a makeover for my bedroom. Looking for something dark but professional. What do you think of brown floorboards and dark grey walls? Do you have any other dark modern ideas or a feature wall idea which fits the theme? Floorboards are a necessity though.. im an Arch student and have no doubt my room's slowly going to merge into a studio atmosphere. Cheers
Do modern furniture and sleigh style furniture mix well? I'm currently in the process of redecorating and the first room I would like to do is my 2 year old's bedroom.. he will be 2 soon and I am looking for a toddler bed for him. He has this armoire http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d11/omrcastaneda/0900631b80ab88daM.jpg in White and I am interested in this bed http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d11/omrcastaneda/ARG1022_l.jpg would they look wrong in the same room? He also has a matching dresser like the armoire in white also.. and a large white modern style toy organizer. We will be painting his room in turquoise and white and I will be using fabrics with modern designs. I would just like to add that I tend to mix these two styles often.. I love them both. Here is a photo I cropped, the dresser can be seen here in his room. Just to give more of an idea.. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d11/omrcastaneda/dresser.jpg Thank you AspenDreamer.. although the Armoire and Dresser are white.. not stained. All furniture in his room is white.. the bed would be the only birch colored piece of furniture. They do have the bed in white.. perhaps I will go with that. :)

Bedroom Re-design help!? Heres what I've got: Walnut (dark) brown '80s Henredon bedset. (dresser, 2 night stands & queen bed) It's gorgeous and I love it. I also have a really ultra-modern desk made of light maple veneer and black metal. It is ugly and I want to get rid of it but can't. :( The walls in my room are tan (also gorgeous and it can't change) The trim (mouldings etc) are off white, and the carpet is a gray/tan color. The accents in my room (door knobs, lighting closet pulls) are bronze AKA fake gold. I am looking for an idea for a color scheme (involving curtains, rug, bedding, towel sets and accessories) that blend well together (not too matchy-matchy) and conveys a more traditional sophisticated feel. I also have a really ultra-modern desk made of light maple veneer and black metal. I can't and wont change the paint, fixtures, carpet or furniture. Please nothing purple or pink! I've been looking but I just can't find anything. Please help! :D Haha. The cow is fine in her barn... It's ME that needs a new room!
How Do I Design A Modern Room? Early next year me and my mom are planing on moving out of our apartment into a single story house. We haven't found a house yet. But I have had the same bedroom set since i was 8 (i'm 13 now) so obviously its a little out grown. So she said i can get my new furniture at IKEA and we can go from there. But since we haven't moved yet i don't have measurements or anything. I also want it to be like a modern teenage room. so if u have any ideas, tips, or links i would greatly appreciate it. thanks a billion! (:
Remodeling my room to a very white modern bedroom? So my mom told me yesterday that we're remodeling the house, my room included. i want something really clean (i kinda have ocd lol) anddd i picked a couple of designs. my room is going to look somewhere along this line. http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l83/OhCheezy/latitude-white.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l83/OhCheezy/untitled.jpg i asked my mom, if we could take out my carpet, and put in white marble flooring. she said okay. i also wondering, where can i get furniture along these lines in the picture? i found some online on ikea but my parents refuse to buy me furniture from ikea or living spaces because they think it is cheap, which i find RIDICULOUS considering the fact i will be moving out in a few months and going to college. i live in southern california btw in orange county which is around 30-40 minutes away from LA. im looking for a really low white bed frame. kinda like in the pictures. and also a glass table for my computer like this. http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l83/OhCheezy/glass_desk_header_2.jpg where can i buy one of these? ALSO. in the next picture i drew an arrow to that cushion thing on the wall. what is tat called? and where can i buy one? i want that behind the headboard of my bed. http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l83/OhCheezy/ddd50_whitebedroom-1.jpg thanks alot for your help!
Black and White, Modern, Bedroom Design help? ok so my 15 y.o wants a new bedroom design. i know he wants a black and white modern look. now its not exactly a big room and we aren't exactly that rich. now i have never been good at design so i have no idea what goes with what. the main new things he wants are: Bed, Desk, Bedside Table, Chest of drawers, Bookcase, chair for desk and a table lamp. those are the main things but some decorative pieces wouldn't go amiss. the floor is currently black carpet and the walls are an off-white paint. the height of the room is 233cm and here's the rest of the measurements: it's a weird shaped room so try and follow this. starting at the point that the door is hinged on. down 296cm, right 394cm up1.5cm, right 2.5cm, up 54cm, window plus radiator up 177cm, 54cm up, 48.5cm left, 9.5 cm up, and finally left 345.5cm the door is 82.5cm and opens into the room. to fit this onto A4 i halved the measurements then divided by ten. ok now you have the perimeter of the room, try and fit whatever you want as if it was your bedroom that you wanted to make modern. (also on a side note preferably objects that can be bought around Basingstoke or ordered from the UK. Thanks) so yeah can anyone who wants to suggest like a couple of things that could go well together in whatever arrangement you like. thank you again. (maybe include a link to some pictures of your ideas) ***Please Note: Nobody is forcing you to do this. Only do this if you have free-time to kill or are feeling in a very helpful mood***

what are some website that have a LOT of Home design Pictures? I am a foodie/Design addict and have been looking for a website sort of like foodporndaily.com where there is just like picture after picture of kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. Not like articles or magazine websites like Architectural Digest, but where it features pics of different homes designs from modern to antique-esque. Thanks 10 points to best answer!
What kind/style of bedroom furniture has a "fan" design on it? Hi, I don't know if this is a stupid question, but you know how there are various styles of furniture? Like contemporary, traditional, transitional, and even more specific categories like shaker or mission style, etc...? Well, what term is used to describe that traditional style furniture with a fan design etched into the wood (like on bedroom dressers, chests, etc..)? I saw it once online and the store used a term (like shaker, missionary, but not those) to describe it and I completely forgot. I thought maybe someone who knows a lot about furniture styles would know. I'm pretty sure there is an actual name, like how houses are Victorian or Colonial or modern, etc... Okay, sorry for the overuse of the words style and etc... Lol. Thanks in advance. Have a great day. :) Okay, I've found out some terms but I'm still confused. If a furniture is made of mahogany, has a broken arch pediment top, a fan design, and ogee feet, what is it? I don't know if it's Chippendale, Queen Anne, Colonial, Early American, 18th century, or what. Anyone know? Thanks.
Modern room with combo of white and cherry wood furniture? I am redesigning my room. But I want it to look modern and contemporary. I want their to both to be white and cherry wood furniture pieces. I want the main color or finish on the furniture to be cherry wood but an accent color of white. Anyone know of a picture of a room that has pieces of furniture like this or a website that shows stuff like this. I need some pictures to go along with my idea of a bedroom, so I can use it to help me design my room.

Opinions on trim color for finishing basement? I am finishing my basement in a more modern design with a home theater, exercise room, kitchen, an extra bedroom, office space, a wine cellar and large open game room. I am considering painting the trim black, and possibly painting or staining the doors a different color, like dk. brown. The color scheme is going to be brighter colors like kiwi green, reds and cobalt blue. The rest of the house is transitional in design with white trim and doors. I have 9' ceilings and 4 windows with several transoms of glass and glass doors to let light in, so I am not really worried about it being too dark. The flooring I have chosen for the theater is a red/geometric print, cork for the wine cellar and neutral white/brown/tan 24" tile with stainless steel accent bars. I would like to know if anyone has seen or done black trim and their opinions on it. Thanks.

What bedroom furniture goes well with a black metal bed frame? My style is definitely not traditional, but some vintage things catch my attention. For example, I just love the romantic idea of a wrought iron bed. Mostly, I prefer contemporary design and need help coordinating something more modern with this kind of bed. What have you seen that looks neat?
Interior design ideas? Working with modern furniture in small condo!? I'm moving into a new condo. Long story short, it's owned by my boyfriend's uncle.... so he's giving me all of the furniture that's in there. It's a very small one-bedroom. I wish I had a picture, but I don't. It's got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther's shoulders and hips hold up the table. The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I'm willing to work with it. The only problem is.... I'm not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it's too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I'm bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige. Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I'm fine with turquoise but if there's another color that works better I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks!

I would like to redecorate my bedroom this week while the hubby (A fussy metrosexual with an interior design degree and who has redone the whole house in italian modern) is gone. I figure I should get atleast one room in my style! So that is what I have to work with. What prints, acsessories, misc furniture, etc etc etc could you suggest. I guess what I need an nice atmosphere to the room, so any suggestions, would be appreciated!! I was thinking of using a movie like Chicago as an inspiration. So i'm trying to reorganize my bedroom to have a more modern look......? Currently, my bedroom is a piece of crap as far as the flow of it goes... I'm living at home during college, and my dude friends don't quite mind it being messy and unorganized and totally unflowing, but I hate having my g/f's in my room because of it lol... My question is: does anyone have any ideas on colors, artwork design (i have this really cool panoramic painting i wanted to utilize... its this nighttime bay painting in a gold frame...), computer desk ideas (I use a Mac computer so white, clear, and aluminum are cool with me), bed ideas (i need to buy a new one anyway...), i also have a four seat blue sectional couch in my room that everyone loves but i'm not sure if it can stay... So... Is there any help for my room? Or am i destined to hope for HGTV to help me lol Thanks everyone

Do YOU have a good interior design suggestion? Currently, my home interior company is working on a large apartment in Northeast Ohio in a city based area. We are expecting a 20 something couple to move in. Their likes are "Americana" design, Old Country or Primitive, and modern day design. <> We would like suggestions from 20 something people as well on what they would like to see in their apartment. First let me give you an overall visual of the apartment. <> We are working with 3 bedrooms and a large living room, all in which have a medium blue colored carpet (at request) with dark walnut trim. All walls are white. We have a medium sized bathroom that is all white at the moment with a white and gold floor. The kitchen has a beigh floor, white walls and walnut trim. <> Mainly we are asking for THEMES for the rooms. We are open to any suggestions. If the couple likes an idea we use from Yahoo! Answers, then there will be a reward for the answeree who gave the suggestion. This reward is TBA since we have yet to show the couple what we have come up with. <> Thanks! -Quita Marietta- Interior Illusions

I'm sick of repeating patterns and nasty designs. Some things I've found that come close are: www.amenityhome.com/ http://www.furniturerowlinens.com/details-40_428_BB-TXCDBL4K.htm but both are very pricey. Any ideas for hip, cool, awesome, not-boring bedding that doesn't feel like my aunt's bedroom?? Thanks! :)

Korean room design? I have an assignment in design class to create a bedroom based upon/similar to one in traditional/modern korea. The concept of the project is to embody the culture of korea in a relatively modern and functioning way. If any of you have pictures, websites, or information as to how an average korean bedroom is arranged, it would be very appreciated.
how much would it cost to finish a standard basement ? My basement is already finished, but it was done at least 10 years ago so its in bad shape. i want to fix it up and make it more modern. right now it has a bar one bedroom and a washroom and a seating area. i want to make it a 2 bedroom but i want the whole Design and setting to be different then what it is. basically i think i should tear the whole thing down and rebuild it. so how much would this cost me. im looking to have wood flooring and pot lights.
New Vintage Bedroom Ideas? I'm moving house, and have got a fairly large bedroom. I want to get ideas on how to design it, at first I was thinking a modern bright red room with big mirrors and squidgy chairs etc. which would be reall cosy, but now I've seen ideas for a vintage style room. I'm thinking of a creamy room with red designing, like big bows and old furniture...any other ideas?!?!
Bedroom Blueprints/suggestions?!?!? well im 14. And me and my family are moving soon and we're building our house so i can basicly plan out my room anyway i want to. So, what i was wanting was something out of the ordinary that no one ever sees in a teenager bedroom. What i planned that i like a lot is the type of bed thingy? that drake and josh have off of their tv show. I was also wanting like .. stairs in my room leading up to a little nook and chill area maybe where i can put some bean bags and my computer and whatever. If you have any suggestions, or comments/opinions PLEASE share them. The color scheme i want for my room is the very clean white look like you'd see in a commercial for like air fresheners or whatever. PICTURES ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED. :} ps-im a very modern girl and i would like to have a very modern room. I am also looking for the very modern, open, zen type theme or looking bedroom with white and a darkish blue scheme. http://www.design-eu.com/img/lema_bed_loto.jpg

Bedroom Colour Scheme for a 17yr old ? hey there my mum and i live in Australia and are moving to an apartment/flat and i want to design my room myself (mum has bad taste :P ) anyhoo i need a good colour scheme or theme....i am thinking of black, red and white, with the feature wall painted black. i need some suggestions... to help you out i love the modern contemporary look, i am not very girly but im no tom boy and i would like the bedroom to suit my age now and later on. it would be great to get an interior designers point of view p.s. the room is kinda small and square shaped if that helps.
I need design ideas for creating a STYLISH teen room for a 17 year-old guy. (Any help???)??? Hi. So my Mum has just given me the master bedroom to our house. I know, I'm lucky... In it i have a walk-in-wardrobe and an Ensuite. I'm not sure if the bedroom is classified as small or not, but it's dimensions are 18' x 17'. The walk-in-wardrobe is 11' x 9'. Basically, what i am looking for is design ideas that can help me turn this room into "ME". I want it to reflect my style, but still be uber-cool and super stylish and sophisticated at the same time. I am 17, and i dont plan on moving out until about 25, so permanency is not an issue. Also, the budget is unlimited. I will briefly list some of my interests and style tastes so that you may get a better feel of who "I" am. My Interests •Photography •Reading •Writing •Watching movies •Listening to music •Editing photos •Surfing the internet •Planning •Fashion •Style •Video games My Style/Taste •Eclectic, including: •African •Egyptian •Roman •Oriental •Mexican/Spanish/Aztec •Things that evoke a sense of age and epic-ness e.g. LOTR, 300, 10,000BC •Ancient Civilisations •Modern •Classy •Sophisticated •Retro •Grunge •Expensive •Adventurist (my own word, apparently) Here are some pics of me. I guess showing you who i am might make it easier for you to 'see' who i am. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethan_9219/sets/72157602346493483/ It would be great if anybody has any ideas that may reflect anything that i mentioned or you think would suit me. I am open to other ideas that you may have that are cool but are different to what i mentioned. I think it would help for you to see the space i will be working with. So here is a picture of my room's layout: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethan_9219/2802841153/ One thing that i want to have in my room is a giant photograph taking up either a full wall, or most of it. If anybody has any ideas of what would be the perfect iconic image to use in this situation they would be much appreciated. I look forward to hearing everybody's ideas and suggestions. Thanks heaps, Ethan

How can i make my teen bedroom STYLISH or COOL or SOPHISTICATED or CLASSY etc etc??? Thanks heaps, Ethan Ricky> You have me sort of worked out, but a few things. First of all, i am not from a well to do family....I am poor. Second, yes a lot of the time i enjoy being by myself...What better place to do that in my nice room? Thirdly, i am perfectly 100% straight....I like girls, not guys. The thing is i am 'man' enough to admit the things i like and i understand they may seem a little 'gay' or feminine...That's because i am perfectly 100% happy being who i am and enjoy doing what i like to do. Lastly, i am not a lonely nerd who would like to fill his room with mini figurines and such of historical battles...OK?

I need some ideas for decorating a bedroom? I'm finally moving out of mu college apartment. Most of the stuff that I have now is crap and I want to get rid of it and start fresh, but I never had new furniture before and don't know where to start. The funny thing is that I'm architect and I design stuff for people on the daily basis and my bosses and my clients love my ideas, but when it comes to myself I have a designer's block. Plus I work on high end projects and I can't afford that stuff for myself yet It is a medium sized bedroom with plenty of natural light painted white (My lease doesn't allow to change that) and I want to play with colors and make the most of the square room. I want it clean, classy, modern and stylish nothing too bright or flashy but just flashy enough. I want it to be sophisticated but not overly mature. A little about me: I'm a petite blond 23 year old who loves handbags shoes and cosmopolitans Looking for color combinations, ideas, layouts as well as websites stores and manufacturers thanks! ;)
If you could afford a yacht, wouldnt it be MORE fun if they could make a MODERN version of a Spanish Galleon? Using modern, and more durable materials and technolgy, wouldn't it be MORE fun to have a modern day Spanish Galleon, than some custom yacht (presuming you could afford, and were buying a NEW custom built yacht, as such that some people do). I just think that the whole "rear" of a Spanish Galleon, that has all those windows (not sure what they call that area), would make a fantastic MASTER bedroom. Why doesn't anyone make something like that anymore? If its $, there are people who spend millions on yachts. Is it an impracticle design for sailing? How much "space" would a galleon have? I would think alot more room than a typical yacht, would should be a plus, no? Anyway, tell me your thoughts.
I am 15 years old and need help redecorating my room!? Hello, I have a medium sized room with a single bed, one corner study table an in-built cupboard and a large chest of drawers. My room has always been over cluttered with make-up, magazines, school books, jewellery, etc. My room walls are a plain creme colour and my chest of drawers are also a plain white colour. I have always wanted to create a cool, modern yet funky room but never know what colours and what decorations I should use. I love blues and greens as well as chocolates, yet I think using blues or light browns and greens may work better to create a sense of space. I would love some help with any cute bedroom items or cheap funky posters or even some good paint and decoration ideas. I am a very arty and creative person and would love or this to come out in my bedroom design! Thanks very much!
homemade stuffs? im going to design my new room, can anybody help me to make some cheap homemade things/craft for my new room, i want it to match my modern type bedroom.. (colors like black, white, beige, brown) tell me the materials & steps to make it.. like a homemade lamp etc.. thank u!
Help with colors? I just got my first house. It's a small 2 bedroom place and it has brand new beige carpet and every other surface from the ground up is primer-white. The all white look reminds me of a military barracks. I want a color scheme that is modern, masculine, and will work well in a small space. I'm thinking about reds, browns, greens, or greyish colors. If you know a lot about modern style design, what thoughts can you give me, and what specific color combinations would you suggest?
Are modern home designers exhibitionists? The wife and I have been searching new homes, and floor plans to possibly build our own home. The latest trend seems to be a huge master bathroom with the walk-in shower and the large tub, which we like. The problem is that it seems like 90% of these newer homes have no doors on the master bathrooms. If someone is buying a 3 or 4 bedroom house, it is more than likely that they would have children. Why, then, would you not want a door on your bathroom? If I don't shut the door on the bathroom, my daughter will follow me right in. So, when I am taking a shower, going to the bathroom, or getting dressed, I close and lock the door. Why would I want a bathroom where I would have no privacy at all in the shower? Who would want their kids to be able to come strolling into the bathroom in the middle of a shower or bath? I know it's no big deal to put a door on or have the house built with a door, but I just wonder why they design like this in the first place. That link didnt work. ICoE: True, but then if there is an emergency, and the wife is at the store or something, I would not be able to hear the kids knock or shout. But I have to agree, Im not crazy about buying a house like this. The thing is, almost all of the new homes or new home floorplans we browse have this feature. This is why it's frustrating and puzzling to me. Thanks Rob, but Im not just talking about models, Im talking about the majority of homes that are actually for sale in the area Im looking in, including the more expensive planned communities, as well as floor plans you can purchase to build a house. I've looked at several 2006-2008 homes that are actually on the market, not models, that have this, and its frustrating. The door isnt so hard to put in, but I also find that a majority of homes have an arched doorway there which makes it even more expensive to fix.

Which of these client factors will generally have the greatest influence on your decorating plan? 1. Your client wants his dining room to be a cozy, dark nighttime room where he can entertain just one or two people for casual, intimate dinners. The room won't be used during the day. The unfurnished room has a low seven-foot ceiling, two small windows facing north, one doorway, and is 10 feet (2.9 meters) by 12 feet (3.6 meters) with no other distinguishing features. To create the mood your client wants, you'll need to A. counteract the conflicting moods in the unfurnished room. B. emphasize existing qualities of the room since they suit the decorating requirements. C. put up a false wall to shorten the room. D. have the ceiling raised if the budget allows. 2. Your client has two pieces in his living room that he wants to keep. One is a favorite chair that would need re-covering to go with the new decor, and the other is a large enameled cabinet whose color is wrong for the new decor. Which of these would be your best course of action? A. Try to convince him that both pieces should be disposed of, since it will be easier to decorate without them. B. Plan to re-cover the chair. Ask if the client will consider repainting the cabinet or putting it in another room. C. Dispose of the chair and repaint the cabinet. D. Try to place both pieces in other rooms. 3. Which of these client factors will generally have the greatest influence on your decorating plan? A. Age B. Lifestyle C. Occupation D. Color preference 4. Your client has said that he likes French Provincial furniture. What should you do before continuing to develop a decorating plan in that style for him? A. Show him examples of French Provincial and other styles to check on whether he knows styles and has expressed what he really wants. B. Let him know that you could give him a special discount on some Oriental furniture you have left over from another job. C. Decide whether you think the style is right for him and tell him which style you prefer. D. Check his color and fabric preferences to see if they allow you to use French Provincial. 5. Because of your client's job, he must live in a city apartment. He is increasingly tired of city life, however, and daydreams about living on a peaceful tropical island. He does no business entertaining at his apartment but occasionally brings other visitors there. Which one of these decorating plans will probably be best for him? A. Sophisticated city look which reflects his business life B. Barefoot and serene tropical decor to reflect the lifestyle he wishes he had C. Plain, nonstylized environment, neither city nor tropical, so that he won't be reminded of his conflicts D. Refined traditional look with one or two large tropical accessories 6. Your clients are Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Jones has told you that she would like to see her living room done with lots of blues and greens against white walls. The only color she doesn't care for is pink. Mr. Jones likes tan, gray, and blue. He dislikes all shades of green and any color in strong bold tones. Which of these would be the best color scheme for you to suggest for meeting your clients' needs? A. Blue and green and white B. Pale blue and very pale lime green and white C. Pale blue, pale green, and tan D. Pale blue, tan, and white 7. You're meeting with your new clients, Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey regarding decorating their living room. Mr. Godfrey has said that he definitely wants a clean, uncluttered look in his home. Mrs. Godfrey says wistfully that she likes Victorian style, but Mr. Godfrey has always cringed at what he calls that fussy-looking stuff. Which of these would be your best course of action? A. Develop a clean, uncluttered modern decor to please Mr. Godfrey. B. Develop a Victorian style room for Mrs. Godfrey. C. Keep peace by introducing a totally separate decor suggestion that doesn't include either of their specifications. D. Show them how it's possible to combine a Victorian flavor with the uncluttered look Mr. Godfrey likes. 8. Which of these is generally the strongest single element in creating the mood of a room? A. Furniture style B. Color C. Accessories D. Its bare-wall structure 9. The most effective approach to redecorating your client's rooms is to A. determine the client's particular needs and meet them. B. replace the client's furnishings with the newest styles available. C. design a decorating scheme based on your own favorite decor elements. D. educate the client to appreciate and desire the finest period decor. 10. Your client is a petite, pale, blue-eyed, and very soft-spoken woman. Which one of the following color schemes would provide the most flattering environment for her? A. Strong colors, such as bright red and hot pinks B. Her favorite pastel colors, such as a delicate pink and subdued, light greens C. Earth tones, such as reddish browns and rich, dark golds D. Dark Victorian colors that enhance the woodwork, such as muddy browns, reds, and greens 11. Which of the following factors determines the directional exposure of a room? A. The direction each window faces B. The direction the seating faces C. The direction you face as you enter D. The direction the doorway faces (outward) 12. If you had to choose only from the following, which of these would be the best lounge chair to select for your client's room? (Remember the client's basic needs.) A. The most comfortable B. The one which best matches the style of the room, whatever it is C. The costliest he or she can afford D. The best-looking chair 13. Your client wants to redecorate his entire home and to have only the finest quality of each item he selects. He has a limited amount to spend, and the job will need to be completed in stages over three years. Which is probably the best method of budgeting for this particular project, according to this study unit? A. Budget a percentage for furniture, percentage for floor covering, percentage for walls, etc. B. Budget a percentage for each room. C. Budget according to priorities. D. It's not possible to establish a budget in this case. 14. Your client has lived in her modest apartment for several years. The bedroom is small and cluttered. A sewing machine and straight chair are placed in front of the room's only window. She says she sews a lot, usually in the mornings. She has found this room the best place to work because of the morning sun. Which of these is your best approach to this decorating challenge? A. Explain that the room is too cluttered and the sewing machine will have to be kept in a closet and brought out only for use. B. In developing a decorating plan, put the sewing machine into an unobtrusive corner in the large living room and disguise it. C. Unclutter the bedroom in other ways. Leave the sewing machine where it is. D. Refuse the job since there's little hope of success. 15. The total cost to decorate your client's bedroom is over her budget. On which of these items should you make the final cost cuts? A. Bed B. Carpeting C. Lamps D. Chest of drawers 16. In measuring and sketching a client's room, which of these should you always be sure to include? A. Colors of the walls B. Planned positions of new furnishings C. Positions of electrical outlets and permanent fixtures D. Positions of present furnishings 17. Your client has seen a very costly brass bed that she is determined to have. It appears to you to be a good item for her room and worth its price. Unfortunately, its cost exceeds the entire amount planned for redecorating her bedroom. The living room is to be redecorated, too. What should you do? A. Convince her to forget about the bed until some future time when she can afford it. Stick to the original budget. B. Get the bed for her. Postpone the rest of the bedroom and living room redecorating until she can afford it. C. See what can be eliminated from the client's budget to pay for the balance of the bed. Then reassess the remaining budget for priorities. D. Redecorate only the living room at this time. Redecorate the bedroom when she can afford what she wants. Refer to Examination Figures 1 and 2 on page 52 of your study unit to answer questions 18–20. 18. In Examination Figure 1, the room includes a sofa, two armchairs, and a secretary. How appropriate is this seating for the sort of entertainment the Guilfords will do in the room? A. Adequate B. Uncomfortable C. Not sufficient D. Suitable for three, not for five 19. How well have the Guilfords' pattern and style preferences been met in this decor? A. Suitable to Mrs. Guilford's tastes; not to Dr. Guilford's B. Very well, for both C. Quite well, except for the rug D. Not at all 20. What one factor most makes the room meet the requirement of being both a nighttime room and a pleasant daytime retreat on weekends? A. The combination of casual and sophisticated furnishings B. The plain style of the upholstered pieces C. The many lamps in the room D. The window treatment, with draperies ready to be pulled at night
My new home will be ready in 2 months!!? I will be getting the keys to my apartment in 2 months and i am not fully decided on how the renovation should be done.I want a modern and uncluttered look for my apartrment. My apartment is on the top level with a very high roofing which i can build a second level. However,on the second level, due to the slope of the roof(slopes on 2 sides), only the centre area can be used for construction and living. The side areas cannot be used as the ceiling is too low. My question is, how should i design and renovate the side areas of the second level to make it look more appealing?I intend to convert the second level into a large bedroom and study area, prefably an open concept with no walls. Anyone has any design ideas please contribute. Many Thanks!!!
What is the best way to bring color into a room? Any suggestions? I want to bring some bright colors into my bedroom. I rent, so painting is out. The walls are an ivory color and my bedroom furniture is a dark wood color. My bedrooms set is really bland, and I'm thinking i should buy a new comforter and sheets to wake up the room. I don't want it to be too girly or so bright that it is overpowering/outlandish, and I would like it to be modern -- not childish. I'm new to decorating and in my 20's.. Any suggestions for colors, design, and how to do this without spending a fortune would be greatly appreciated!
Modesty is not a black and white issue? Modesty is not a black and white issue Modest dress is a key component of Islam, but it's important to retain personality and aesthetics in the way we dress This week I tried out the most extreme black cloak to make it into my wardrobe. A piece of elastic attached it to the top of my head, and then the single piece of long fabric hung snugly over my hair, sweeping over my shoulders and down past my feet. The final flourish was for me to hold together the two edges under my chin. Two eyes, a nose and a squashed mouth peeked through the gap under the black sheet. My husband peered into the bedroom, and nearly dropped his mug of tea. "You look like a black blob," he said, horrified. "Where have you gone?" He poked underneath the black cloth like a serious Sherlock Holmes. Despite feeling uncomfortable about the cloak, no man was going to tell me how to observe modest dress. "Don't you want me to hide my figure so I'm not attracting attention?" I barked at him. He froze, rabbit in headlights, and then looked at me for a clue. "Of course I want you to be modest," he said, certain that this was the right answer. "And isn’t this long cloak, the most modest thing I could wear?" "Well yes. Erm, well no, well yes, no, yes, yeah... no? yes, yes... " I looked at him sternly, with the if-you-dare glint of a determined Muslim woman, who has pro-actively chosen to wear the headscarf and modest dress. He looked more terrified of me in my new guise of crazy-eyed Muslim harridan than he had of the black blob. But he was right to be distressed. The question about how we should define modesty is constantly plaguing the Muslim community. Neither men nor women can map out any consistency or meaning in the higgledy-piggledy implementation of the rules of modest behaviour. At work you can interact with the opposite gender but not at Islamic conferences. Muslim men can shake hands with non-Muslim women, but not vice-versa. Brides who normally wear hijab will uncover in front of men to be shown off. In some communities, men will push into the women's section during weddings, but will enforce segregation at home. In others it is the opposite, with women not allowed to participate in mosque management due to the fitnah (division) this could cause, but happily socialising together. The spirit and implementation of modesty is confused at best. Women and their clothing have become hijacked into being the symbol of how religious we are as a community. If women are properly covered, then everyone seems to think they can rest easy. Her choice of dress is inextricably linked to a judgement about her spiritual status. At the sober end she is considered overly pious, not to mention excruciatingly dull. By contrast those women who choose not to wear a headscarf, are immediately judged to be irreligious, un-spiritual and not considered to be 'properly' practising. There has been a visible increase in the number of women wearing the hijab (head covering), the jilbab (loose fitting long dress) as well as the niqab (face covering). Colours are subtle: greys, browns, blues, blacks. These women cite their dress as a freedom, an escape from the body-obsessed post-modern world, as well as a greater commitment to the values of Islam. At the other extreme is the rise of the Muhajababe. Her head covered, she probably wears skinny fit jeans and lycra t-shirts. For her, the headscarf itself has shown her commitment to her Muslim identity and faith. We sighed simultaneously at the black cloak I was still wearing. "We all end up looking the same, I feel anonymous and unknown. I'm not me anymore," I mourned to him. "Some people say that our voices should not be heard either. I'm part of a black silent mass at the back of the room. Surely individuality is important? Especially if Allah says that there are as many ways to know Him as there are human beings?" He responded enigmatically: "Each flower that God has created is specifically a different colour, and design. Even when they are closed, they make an effort to show their personality, and individuality." I squinted dubiously at him. "Does this mean you think women don't need to wear niqab, jilbab or even the hijab?" "Defining what 'modesty' means isn't easy, and we Muslims spend an awful lot of time on the outward signs like dress and physical separation. Where we need to focus more is on the complex relationships between modesty, personality and aesthetics." I draped the abaya playfully over his shoulders. "Modesty isn't just for Muslim women to worry about," I reminded him. "To build a strong community we all have to be concerned with inner spirituality as well as outer codes of conduct like dress." Grinning cheesily, I pointed at the cloak: "Modesty is definitely not a black and white issue." This article was published in The Muslim News "Modesty and Faith are joined very closely together; if one goes, the other one goes too." (Quran)
cute vintage/nature-like comforter??? I've been having some trouble finding a bright yellow comforter close to Vera Wang's poppy set, and have finally resorted to looking around some alternatives. My bedroom's theme is that sort of vintage-but-modern style with the different colored birds, fat owls, and trees painted on part of my walls... The main color of my walls is a light aqua, and most of the designs are yellow with some red accents. Since I can't find a yellow comforter, I started looking for white, aqua, or brown ones with the same vintage flair (like maybe a graphic desgn of birds or a tree), but I'm still having trouble and if anyone knows of some good places or websites I'd be very grateful! (I need either a comforter or duvet cover. Bedspreads are too light... Minnesota's not that warm, you know!) While I'm away at college, my room's a guest room that does get used quite a bit, so it is important that the comforter doesn't remain a mismatched pink! Bright yellow is still my first choice, though.... the reason I can't get the Vera Wang set is because my bed's a twin, and that narrows it down a lot. ) =

House Reconstruction? Hi, my fiancé and I got engaged a few months ago, and we are now planning to buy a house. We want a single house that has a modern floor plan, but can’t seem to find any. All the single houses are old in age and old in design, meaning that they have small living rooms, dining rooms, and family rooms. All the townhouses, on the other hand, have great floor plans, but lack privacy and space (yard, etc). We saw a great house yesterday: the area is nearly 8,000 square feet (which is great), but the actual house is only 1,300 square feet (which is too small). We want to get the house, and then completely reconstruct it: - change 1 floor to 2 ½ (attic) - high ceiling - spiral stairway - 3-car garage Then, we want to have marble flooring all over the house except for the bedrooms (carpeting) and granite countertops. We’ve (obviously) never done this before, and I just want to ask some questions: - How much might it cost? (all new and top-quality materials) - How long would it My fiancé makes over $200,000 a year, and I’ve just started working ($90,000), so money isn’t a BIG issue. We just want to get an idea on how this works. And if anyone has done this sort of thing before, please share your experience! Thank you everyone.

editing assistance? ~My Condo I lived in a modernization two-bedroom apartment for two years. In the family room, I had a big aquarium. I had a wall unit that included book shelves. There was a comfortable sofa, a plasma television, under television table was a Sony DVD player, to west word wall was the computer, and other different items. There were pictures and a big map of the world on the wall of my bedroom. The kitchen in my apartment had a TV, a dinette table to the north-west wall, a microwave oven was hung below the top of the drawers , a blender, a toaster, and a juicer. Each room in my apartment was well lay-out, Also, from the family room windows, you were able to see our gorgeous swimming pool. It was 60 meters long and filled with blue water. As you can see from the above condo description I lived in a modern, well designed, and organized home. fix any possible errors you see. thank you.
