Master Bedroom Design Ideas Knowledge Base
Ideas for our master bedroom design? we are redecorating our master bedroom and can't seem to agree on the style and colors. I like the more calming tans and browns and he like bright vibrant colors. Also he likes the more modern sleek lines and unique decorations while I like the classic, clean zen type of design. Any ideas for a good compromise?
Beach Cottage bedroom design ideas? My fiancee and I have just bought our house, a cape. The Master bedroom is pretty large and has pitched ceilings. I'm looking for paint and design ideas so the room is beach cottagey and comfortable to make a relaxing and romantic space. Outside of white, what paint colors should I use and how should I implement them on pitched ceilings? Should I paint the walls up to the point that they start pitching or the pitch as well? Also, should I differ the paint colors on the 2 walls that are flat from floor to ceiling? What are some other ideas that might complete a beach cottage design for a bedroom? Thanks for your help! All these are great ideas! I really REALLY appreciate them!
Bedroom design ideas...? We're moving to a new house and I need some ideas for my bedroom. I'm 15, don't want bright funky colors, I prefer the modern look--like a master bedroom. I've got tons of books and posters right now, a desk, a dresser, and a nightstand. I have a single sized bed. If anyone has pictures, or decorating ideas that would be great! Thanks!
bedroom color design ideas? so I'm redoing my room and I bought this gorgeous furniture which you need to look at the link below to see. It's the exact same furniture. http://www.levinfurniture.com/FurnitureCatalog/8000_MASTER_BEDROOM/994_PACKAGES/2LEC_RM625K_WEB.jpg I had lavender forever in my room and now I need new color ideas. I like green and yellows but I don't like black, red, or orange. If you could give me some ideas or carpet and wall colors that go nicely with the furniture I would really appreciate it. The carpet and walls don't have to match they just need to go so could you help me please?

which is your favorite bedroom design? I'm redecorating my master bedroom and having trouble deciding which design idea to run with. I love them all which one is your favorite? idk if it matters but here's a little info about us. I'm 25, my hubby is 26, and we have a three year old. Currently our bedroom is very drab. I live in a rental apartment so painting the walls is out of the question, so that's something to consider. I plan to make my own tufted headboard to match. Here are the links to the design ideas I'm considering using as a base idea. Which is your favorite? 1. http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy115/amber_m_garner/eclecticgreennavypink.png 2. http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy115/amber_m_garner/turquoisewhite.png 3. http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy115/amber_m_garner/bluewhitebrown.png 4. http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy115/amber_m_garner/blueandwhite.png for the 4th one I wouldn't have the pattern on the walls because they would be white.

Could someone give me some decorating ideas? I am wanting to redesign my house and can't find any websites that have been helpful with latest design trends and colours. I am mainly looking for lounge/dining and master bedroom ideas. Thanks.
Can anyone give ideas or pictures for a bedroom i want to make over? I might be moving back to the rents house and kinda bummed so i want to give myself something to look forward to. Thought some new paint might help. Its the master bedroom upstairs so its a large room. Im thinking black and white. I need some kind of design or pattern. Kinda goth punk but not depressing. And probably painting the wood floor and getting an area rug until we get carpet. Any ideas would help thanks.
I need design ideas for creating a STYLISH teen room for a 17 year-old guy. (Any help???)??? Hi. So my Mum has just given me the master bedroom to our house. I know, I'm lucky... In it i have a walk-in-wardrobe and an Ensuite. I'm not sure if the bedroom is classified as small or not, but it's dimensions are 18' x 17'. The walk-in-wardrobe is 11' x 9'. Basically, what i am looking for is design ideas that can help me turn this room into "ME". I want it to reflect my style, but still be uber-cool and super stylish and sophisticated at the same time. I am 17, and i dont plan on moving out until about 25, so permanency is not an issue. Also, the budget is unlimited. I will briefly list some of my interests and style tastes so that you may get a better feel of who "I" am. My Interests •Photography •Reading •Writing •Watching movies •Listening to music •Editing photos •Surfing the internet •Planning •Fashion •Style •Video games My Style/Taste •Eclectic, including: •African •Egyptian •Roman •Oriental •Mexican/Spanish/Aztec •Things that evoke a sense of age and epic-ness e.g. LOTR, 300, 10,000BC •Ancient Civilisations •Modern •Classy •Sophisticated •Retro •Grunge •Expensive •Adventurist (my own word, apparently) Here are some pics of me. I guess showing you who i am might make it easier for you to 'see' who i am. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethan_9219/sets/72157602346493483/ It would be great if anybody has any ideas that may reflect anything that i mentioned or you think would suit me. I am open to other ideas that you may have that are cool but are different to what i mentioned. I think it would help for you to see the space i will be working with. So here is a picture of my room's layout: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethan_9219/2802841153/ One thing that i want to have in my room is a giant photograph taking up either a full wall, or most of it. If anybody has any ideas of what would be the perfect iconic image to use in this situation they would be much appreciated. I look forward to hearing everybody's ideas and suggestions. Thanks heaps, Ethan

Need help with bedroom design, please!? I have a very small master bedroom and have just ordered an enormous king size bed and dresser(I know what your thinking, how dumb am I LOL). My husband says he knows it will fit in the room, however; I need some Ideas to help make the room seem bigger. Anything from paint to furniture placement. Anything would be helpful. Thanks
Do you have good interior design ideas? My dad got a new house it isn't very big but decent size. It is two story with 2 reasonably sized bedrooms a big master bedroom, 3 bathrooms, living room, den, big kitchen and a medium sized backyard with a pool. Since the entire house is painted white on the inside and most of the plants are dead my dad is giving me a $3,000 budget to renovate it with one sole purpose. He wants to make it fancy, so not home-y or tribal. I get to do every room and need some ideas to make it appear fancy and have a classy feel throughout the house. Any ideas?
I would like some ideas on designing a new living room...? My husband and I are in the process of purchasing new living room furniture. He is currently deployed and I'd love for him to come back to an amazing new design in the room we use most. I'm currently working on all the designs [dining, master, and guest bedrooms] with great success but I cannot seem to find exactly what I want in the living room. Our styles conflict [my own style even conflicts itself at times!] he is into contemporary spaces where as I'm into "livable" spaces. I like some country decor without over doing it but I also really like contemporary decor. It's just so confusing. I would like to create a room that's functional, easy on the eye, and meets both country, classic, and contemporary styles. I don’t want a room that is just “thrown together.” Do you have any ideas? Do you know of any websites that have the purpose to design a room--not just the layout? Thanks for your advice!!

What are some good bedroom themes? My parents are getting our house modeled, so I get their master bedroom. It has white walls and green carpets so I don't know how to design it. Any tips or ideas?
Paint color ideas for bedroom to match grey and black bedding?!? We are working on our master bedroom and it is in the lower level of a split level home. So we have a long and narrow room (about 12 x 24). It also has a knee wall around on 2 sides. Our bed is at the far end in the middle of the 12' wall with a window and knee wall behind it and 2 windows and knee wall on one side. We just purchased new bedding (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=131750&RN=31&) and I don't know what color to do the room. I was thinking of an accent wall behind the bed and the rest of the walls a very soft grey or all the walls one color. I need help.....at a total loss and totally stuck for color and design choice!!!
what can i do with my bedroom? Im doing my room next week but im still all out of ideas. Im sixteen but i cant say that im that much into bold colours for my room, i spend alot of time drawing and painting in my room aswell as reading and writing, i would like it to be a calm and relaxing space but i want it to be "me" too. Ive always loved romantic bedroom designs but they seem to be for master bedrooms, they dont seem to have any ideas for smaller rooms, as ive always loved canopy beds but im not sure i could do that in my room as i have a big waredrobe and my room might look a bit cramped. I have wooden furniture (brown) which i am not allowed to change therefore they are what my design will have to set around. I would like the design to have a bit of black in it but not gothic and id like it to have that relaxing feel aswell as have the feel of a romantic design. could anyone help me out?
Interior design advice - guest bedroom? I have a guest bedroom that has a black cast iron double bed frame, white double wardrobe (Ikea Hemnes), white bedside tables matching the wardrobe, cream walls and cream curtains. I have just moved house and therefore cannot afford to buy new furniture and I want to keep the cream walls so advice required on what else I can do to put some colour into the room... What colour bedding and accessories does anyone recommend? I don't want a bland room but don't want something too personal as it is the guest room so could have a whole mixture of ages staying i.e. parents, or mates! I can afford to buy brand new bedding, throws, cushions, bedside lamps and accessories. The master bedroom is crisp white bedding, cream walls, oak furniture which splashes of deep red so don't want the guest room to be the same. Ideas/links gratefully appreciated as I am stuck for ideas! Thank you!

Room Design Help! I need some ideas! THANKS GUYS :)? My parents decided to give me that master bedroom because all the bedrooms in my house are equal size and have bathrooms off them, so I guess any one of them could be the master bedroom. My room is huge its about 40 feet by 30 feet and then there is this awkward almost enclosed space. Its about the size of a twin bed plus 3 feet in length. What makes it awkward is there is a column that lets the smoke from the fire place, so I can't really get rid of it. There are 3 small windows in the area. I have a sofa, bed, coffee table, desk and dresser..what should I put in this area, I do not really feel like I could leave it empty. Thanks guys :)
How to decorate and design a Old Hollywood/Paris themed bedroom.? I am 14 and I want to redo my bedroom. I have the master bedroom so I have more room! I want my room to be like an Old Hollywood/Paris theme. I think it feels romantic and charming. I painted my walls pink but they look to kiddish. I'm thinking about doing wallpaper on two walls, but I don't know what pattern I would do. I have all white furniture. I was also looking for a vanity for a cheap price but something that would be sturdy and last long. It has to be white. I have been trying to find a chandelier to put in my closet, but all the ones that I have found are way to expensive. I was thinking about putting like pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn on the walls. Any ideas for paint color, decor, chandeliers, furniture, wallpaper?

Thanks heaps, Ethan Ricky> You have me sort of worked out, but a few things. First of all, i am not from a well to do family....I am poor. Second, yes a lot of the time i enjoy being by myself...What better place to do that in my nice room? Thirdly, i am perfectly 100% straight....I like girls, not guys. The thing is i am 'man' enough to admit the things i like and i understand they may seem a little 'gay' or feminine...That's because i am perfectly 100% happy being who i am and enjoy doing what i like to do. Lastly, i am not a lonely nerd who would like to fill his room with mini figurines and such of historical battles...OK?

What color would you paint our master bedroom? I'm trying to work with a comforter set given to us by my Mother-in-Law. It's a pretty dark blue and grayish blue pattern, kind of a grand floral design. Very elegant. The bedskirt and sheets are a darkish gray blue and white. Our headboard and furniture is a medium cherry wood. I always wanted to paint our room a deep burgundy, but I think it'll look weird with the bedding. I think painting the walls white is too boring and blue just seems like it would be "blue-overkill". The hall that leads to our room is a muted "army" green. The doors and trim are white. Haven't picked window treatments yet. Suggestions??? I'm very open to ideas. Maybe even wall paper? Please give me ideas......the room is currently painted a light lime green and we can't handle much longer.......

Hi...I have recently purchased a flat 2BHK and completed furniture for the kitchen and drawing room....now as the master bedroom is only 10'X10', I am not able to adjust all my requirement...I am thinking of 5'X6' double bed, one dressing table,1 small desk for laptop and a cupboard...there are two windows in the room.... I can't afford an architecture due to low budget so came here hoping someone will give good ideas to design the interior...if sketch are provided than i will be really greatful to that person....thanks a lot in advance.....
Closet designs. I am in the middle of designing an addition? I am in the middle of designing our addition. I am looking for pictures on line. Websites.... not magazines for ideas. Closet design is ONE thing i like to conquer. (other designs questions will follow) Thanks. Anyone have WORDs or links or pictures to describe their dream (effecient) Master Bedroom closet ??? I am leaning to a HIS / HER with an island in the middle. Transient windows above for natural lighting. Cathedral ceilings.
How would you use shades of color on a tray ceiling to really show off it's architectual depth? I have a tray ceiling in the master bedroom of my newly constructed house. I am choosing paint colors and I am trying to decide how to paint the tray ceiling. Would you use 2 different colors, two different shades of the same color, or paint it all the same? Also if using two different colors or shades where would you use each of them? I know that I am going to paint my walls a gold hue. My bedding is a brick red color with gold as the accent color. It is a very elegant scroll design. I want the ceiling to look very elegant and tasteful as well--not tacky! Any ideas and advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
teen bedroom?:) help me please<3? hey there , im re-doing my bedroom, im 13 years old and im a girl , im mature though. my twin sister and i share the master bedroom in our house now with our own bathroom and walk in closet but my mom is kicking us out so she can have it , which i dont mind because i would like my own room:) we are each getting a bedroom on the main floor though mine is a bit smaller , which i dont mind either. i want a room design that will make the small space work . there are six drawers built into the wall above one another and a double doored closet next to them on the same wall. there is also a little box/shelf thing under the window that is just made out of wood and covers the radiator. there is a screen in the front . im not sure how to explain it. but im not sure the exact measures of the room. anyway, i was thinking for a color scheme to do maybe blue and purple or maybe blue and brown or brown and purple or possibly all three together , but i need another opinion because im not too good with colors. would those colors look good together ? which ones would best? or all three? i was also thinking dark brown , expresso colored furniture. my mom is buying me all new furniture , pillows , bed sheets & blankets , curtains , paint, and either a rug or hard floor, whichever i choose. another color scheme i was considering is purple and silver? i really like the color purple. i am pretty much a girly girl i guess but im laid back and i like to feel cozy . i really want my room to feel cozy. if you have any other color scheme ideas, then feel free to tell me i want as much as i can get even if it doesnt have purple i might love it:) so one idea that i had was to paint the walls purple, do the the rug a light bright blue, do the expresso furniture, white curtains or blue, purple or blue or brown pillows, white bedding (blankets) and umm blue doors ? and im not sure about the installed drawers . also a purple computer chair for my desk. im really not sure:\ that might look horrible lol. but yeah pleaaaase help me i really need help ! thankyou<3
Redesigning my mom's bedroom for Mother's Day? My mom has been dying to redo her and my stepdad's bedroom since they moved into the place. Their furniture is kinda mismatched, there's no organization, the walls are a funky tan, and the whole thing just needs a face lift. My whole family agrees that I have an eye for interior design and every room I have designed for myself and other members of my family looks great. I'm hoping to get my stepdad on board with the idea of repainting his and my mom's room as a Mother's Day present, along with getting everything in order and restaining the furniture and (maybe) replacing some of it. She just bought a new comforter set, so I'm working with the colors in it: Steel grey, light aqua, and a dark aqua/teal shade in a geometric pattern of squares. Details about the rest of the room: -mostly wooden furniture, though the bedframe is a black metal. -small, standard double-wide "master bedroom." -small closet and a fairly large bathroom. I'd also like to repaint it if I can. - Budget is a few hundred dollars, no more than $300 I would assume. -Would have to be done in a weekend with a crew of three-five people. I was thinking these colors, with the grey being the main color and the teal as an accent: Valspar "Backstroke" Haven't picked out a grey yet....I'm thinking a fairly light one since the room is small, without a blue undertone. Looking for more of a silver undertone to it. Probably a gallon of each color. I also want to restain the furniture. I DO have experience in all this. I was thinking a matte black to match the headboard of the bed? Ideas for the closet? It needs desperate organizing! Ceiling needs a coat of Kilz and then a coat of white. Both it and the trim would be the same shade of white. Any other tips or suggestions?

Where Can I Find Measurements For The Standard Sizes of Different Rooms of A House? I am drawing out some plans for a two story house and I need to get an idea of the average size of different rooms such as the kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom, regular bedrooms, and dining room etc. so that I know how whether or not my placing on each story is realistic. I know there are a lot of variables involved, but I was hoping there was still a website or guide somewhere that has this type of information for people loooking to design and build their own house.
I need help decorating my new Teen room (P.S. i am a male)??? Any tips??

Room design? hi im redesigning my bedroom (master bedroom) and im in love with the Old Hollywood Glam, so thats the theme im going with for my room. As a fashion designer, this is pretty close to my feild of expertise, but not quite. Any tips or ideas for the room? Hard wood floors, carpet, curtians? Anything NICE would be appreciated, thanks!
Paint and Lighting Which Should I Use? I am working on a design project for my parents master bedroom. The space I am currently working with is around 20x15 they have a large bed that makes the room appear to feel very thin and long what are some paint colors that will help the room to feel more open? Also there ceiling is 8' I am wanting to place in a nice ceiling fixture but dont want it to over power with a low ceiling any ideas on that would be great as well!
Home design issue: What can I do with a HUGE closet off of my living room? I have a funny little cape cod house. Master Bath & Master bedroom along with another bedroom on first floor. In between the two bedrooms, off of the living room, is a strange 'closet' (maybe 10 x 12 room without any windows). I have had my office in there and its just not a nice area and I'm looking for ideas. I have a loft that serves as a playroom, which I'm going to move my desk/CPU at. I was thinking about making it a craft room or a place for my workout equipment. I just don't know. Its such a dreary weird room, but I don't want the space to go to waste.....
Bedding to compliment Sienna Colored walls? We've just painted our master bedroom a beautful Sienna red color. Our bedroom furniture is also a rich cherry shade. I'm looking for a duvet cover set (cover, pillows, bedskirt) to compliment and finish the bedroom. I have no idea what color scheme will match and would appreciate any help at all. The final look I want has to be simple but elegant, warm and inviting. We aren't looking for anything too fancy and want to stay away from linear designs as well. Any ideas on colors/patterns we should look for? thanks!
Help building / designing dream house? I want to build a three story "castle" like house, but on a modern home scale. I am planning on having about 4 acres of land to build on so a decent sized house. I already have my rough draft of my first floor, floor plan drawn out. I will take any ideas for room sizes, room locations, etc. I want the third story to have an observatory area extending through the roof, along with my master bedroom. The master bedroom will also have a balcony extending outside facing the front and rear of the estate. The second story is mainly guest beds and bathrooms, and such. The first floor will have a large kitchen, decent sized den a foot lower than the rest of first floor level, a library and a foyer. A decent sized basement for storage and laundry. Each corner of the house will have a hexagonal style tower design to bring out more of the castle like feel. This will also add a bit more room and aura for the dining room, library and guest rooms. I still plan on putting about another year or two into the basic plans before I start with the other things., and I am sure things will change. I do plan on using stone, adding a pond, having a circular driveway with an extended entrance driveway lined with trees (not sure on the trees, landscaping will come last). Maybe some stained glass here and there. As far as design programs, should I use AutoCAD? I am sure once I get my floor plans done, an actual architect will want to rearrange them a lot, but I want to get the basic design to my vision before he/she modifies it. I will take any opinions/ideas generously.
Can't paint my wood trim??? WHAT TO DO???/? So I'm moving into my Mom's master bedroom and she's getting a bigger room. Anyway, we're renting the house and my mom said I can't paint the wood trim in the Master Bedroom white, even though I painted the trim in my room. So, I have no idea what color to pick for the walls, what theme, design, ect. I have a bright pink comforter, a black night stand, and a tan fireplace with a wood mantle. I have no idea how to design my room. HELP??? trim is maple. and the fireplace is stone.
Suggestions for bathroom layout and design please? Hello, I'm designing the layout of our eventual house. After its done, I'll take it to an architect and have them draw it up for real so it can be built. However, my husband has decided to make things difficult on me. Not in a bad way, just in a "our tastes don't match" way so I'm trying to find something that will suit both of us. Yes, this is very strange. I'm a girl and I prefer sleek and modern. He's a guy, and he prefers country style. You'd think it would be the other way around. Our bedroom looks something like this... http://www.sleighbedstore.com/prodimages-cdls/vba/vba-960-553-set2-L.jpg He bought the set before we got together. Its a nice set, don't get me wrong. But I don't think I'd have really chosen it for myself. I'd have chosen something more like this... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/516ljpY9GIL._SL500_AA300_.jpg Honestly, in most of the house, its fairly easy to accommodate this both for our tastes. The hard part seems to be the master bath. I want a glass vessel sink or a porcelain undermount with a granite countertop with dark colors for things like the cabinet and light walls. Somehow, though, I don't think this idea would fit with his style and I really want him to like it too. I'd like to create a spa effect, but I honestly am having a heck of a time finding things for it that I know both of us would like. I know this is a broad question, but do you guys have any ideas? Keep in mind, he's 6 feet tall. I'm 5 feet tall. So we need to find something that will help us meet in the middle. I simply loath our current bathroom. The sink is too high for me and was put in the cabinet 6 inches from the edge (wth were they thinking when they did that) when the standard is 4 inches. But for HIM, he says the cabinet is too short for him and he wishes it were taller. Not sure what to do here. I know he won't like a freestanding sink, but I don't want a traditional set up with the sink mounted on top of the vanity like I've seen in every other house ever. What do you think?
Where on a housing floor plan do you think is the best place for the bedrooms and bathrooms? I eventually want to build our own house so I'm trying to decide where and how I want to put what room and exactly what I want. Well... here's a few things... the whole house needs to be one floor because I was in a car accident in 2004 that I'm told I'm lucky I didn't die. Often I'm in quite a bit of pain. Climbing stairs now is hard but I can do it. By the time I'm 60, I really don't think I can climb stairs for any reason. We don't intend on having children and if we do, it won't be more than one. I've already designed what I want for the master bedroom, walk in closet, and bathroom. But I'd like to put a smaller bedroom (big enough for one queen bed and at least one bedside table and a dresser), and a normal regular bathroom (combination tub/shower, toilet, and small vanity with a small linen closet) in the house as well with the bathroom able to be accessed by anyone that comes in the house. I don't want them tiny rooms but not large either like ours will be. The family room, and kitchen I want to be an open floor plan (without the extra floor thats nothing but ceiling and glass). We don't do alot of entertaining, and barely use the kitchen for anything other than cooking a quick meal, so I was thinking of skipping the dining room entirely and simply having a peninsula or island that we eat at or only a very small table off in a nook or something. Usually we eat in the living room watching tv anyway. Our bedroom and bathroom are more important to us than any other part of the house, but I need to decide where to put the other bathroom, and the second bedroom. I want the bedrooms to be as quiet as possible, but also understand the bathrooms need to be private. If I can avoid making an interior bathroom for the second bathroom that would be though not absolutely necessary since we won't be using it in the morning anyway. What do you think? Keep in mind that these aren't exact sizes of these rooms, and can be easily moved. I've included graphics below. If you don't think they work, let me know. I'm completely willing to change them. The first is a basic graphic to give an idea of what things look like. I'm already done the basic design of the bathroom and its alot more complicated that this little graphic but its basically right. http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx174/moiraesfate/basic.jpg?t=1284753334 This is the one with the second bath but without the second bedroom since I don't know where to put it. http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx174/moiraesfate/possible1.jpg?t=1284753397 The last one is with the second bedroom added in a possible location. http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx174/moiraesfate/possible2.jpg?t=1284753466 If any of them don't look right, please let me know. Let me know what you think anyway. This is proving harder than I thought and there's no alot of info on the net about this stuff. Oh and to add... I do have a laundry room worked in there near on the other side of the walk in closet, I just didn't include it in the drawing. I'm also trying to decide where to put the utility room but I'm thinking on the other side of the kitchen would work so we can get at the heater, the water heater, and the ac unit. I'm also debating an installed vacuum but haven't decided yet. I'm asking because I want opinions. If I don't like them, I can dismiss them but other people may think of things that I didn't. Thats the whole point of this site, isn't it? I've been looking at building because I think most architects must be on drugs now or something with bedrooms leading right off the living room or kitchen, or these insanely high ceilings that no one with a brain would want to clean and the like. In the master bath, I actually have made a walk in shower. Meaning, there is no bump as all. There are these really interesting drains you can place along the wall so that they're almost invisible to take the water. And I've added things like bars to help me stand without a problem when I get older. And a seat in the shower too. I hate to say it, but I may end up wheelchair bound when I get older. Right now is ok, I don't even need a cane, but that might change as I get older. The doc says I'm going to have horrific arthritis. We haven't decided on a location for the house yet, thats why I'm doing basic design for myself now, and we can change it as things change before we finally settle on what we want and get an architect to make final plans. I'm just making basic drawings and designs now. Buying and building it are probably 10 years away. We need to save the money for a partial payment first. Oh yes, I prefer a gently sloping ramp to steps. Steps are hard on my bad leg. I always have to hold on to the railing with a good grip and even use my arm to help lift myself slightly if I'm in a particular lot of pain that day. Some days I feel no pain at all, other days are agony. I have a metal plate near my knee and a rod that runs from my knee to my ankle. I've been told the bone is weak and it scares the living daylights out of me the idea that I might fall down because I think I might be hospitalized (dog knocked me down the stairs at an in-laws recently. Glad I didn't fall on my bad leg. As it was I got pretty banged up and I'm still hurting because of it). Oh, and one of the prohibitive reasons why I want a second bedroom and second bath is that I live in a different country from my family. I badly want them to visit but the cost is so hard on them that they can't afford it. Since I work in hotels, I know that a good portion of any trip (besides the plane tickets) is the cost of the hotel room. I'd like my family to be able to stay with me and my husband when they visit rather than being forced to go to a hotel. It would mean they can come visit more often by cutting a good $1000 or more off the cost of their trip.
What color to paint my room? Ok so I am a teenage girl who goes through room colors as fast as I blink. Right now, my room is light pink, with a white strip and a design, and under that is brown. I have the master bedroom in my house, so my room is pretty big and requires alot of paint. Some colors I had in mind were: http://twitpic.com/61ap2t but I'm afraid I wont like them throughout time. I have had the pink and brown since I was 10, and my choice of colors has changed alottttt ! The colors I posted above are just some ideas, but I'm really into green and other colors as well. Please be specific. What are the best colors for a room? Worst colors? Thanks(;
Room suggestions? In the process of designing a VERY large 3 floor building. The first and second floor are complete. I also have a basement for laundry ect. The rooms I currently include are: 4 guestrooms Sauna Pool room Changing room Gym Dining room Kitchen Drawing room Lounge Ground floor bathroom Master bedroom and en suite Library Study Private lounge Den Second floor bathroom Gallery Third floor bathroom Is there something I'm missing? Just need any ideas you guys think of Thanks! For the record it isn't my house! A billionare friend of my fathers wants a new home built to replace the converted hotel he now lives in.
Design my house? We have just bought a block of land to build our 'dream' home, which is proving easier said than done. We are going to a designer, but I want a rough copy on paper before we go, so anyone who wants to have a crack feel free. Post them on something like photobucket and give me the link, or post them to mrsgreen663@yahoo.com. Specifications and rough room size ideas: block 16m front, 17m back (so I am thinking its roughly 38 down the side, havent got the paperwork yet). Is facing north north east, so we have ocean views to the rear that we need to utilise. Prefer all bedrooms upstairs, but open to options. 4 bedroom, minors 4x4 with 1x2 BIR master 4.5x4.5 both ensuite n bathroom 4/.5x3.5 WIR total 4msq toilets 1.5x2 kitchen 6m office/study 3.5x3 laundry 2.5/3x3.5 linen closet 2x1.5 plus a theatre, living area, dining (we will have a pool so want open living with views of back) outside entertaining area (large) and upstairs balcony to overlook ocean. I appreciate any ideas. Yes I have a house modelling package, I find it is easier to do on paper. Have also looked at all the ready made plans for ideas, but none of them are what we are trying to achieve (and those in our class don't have 'pre-done' plans.
can you help me with my room? hey there , im re-doing my bedroom, im 13 years old and im a girl , im mature though. my twin sister and i share the master bedroom in our house now with our own bathroom and walk in closet but my mom is kicking us out so she can have it , which i dont mind because i would like my own room:) we are each getting a bedroom on the main floor though mine is a bit smaller , which i dont mind either. i want a room design that will make the small space work . there are six drawers built into the wall above one another and a double doored closet next to them on the same wall. there is also a little box/shelf thing under the window that is just made out of wood and covers the radiator. there is a screen in the front . im not sure how to explain it. but im not sure the exact measures of the room. anyway, i was thinking for a color scheme to do maybe blue and purple or maybe blue and brown or brown and purple or possibly all three together , but i need another opinion because im not too good with colors. would those colors look good together ? which ones would best? or all three? i was also thinking dark brown , expresso colored furniture. my mom is buying me all new furniture , pillows , bed sheets & blankets , curtains , paint, and either a rug or hard floor, whichever i choose. another color scheme i was considering is purple and silver? i really like the color purple. i am pretty much a girly girl i guess but im laid back and i like to feel cozy . i really want my room to feel cozy. if you have any other color scheme ideas, then feel free to tell me i want as much as i can get even if it doesnt have purple i might love it:) so one idea that i had was to paint the walls purple, do the the rug a light bright blue, do the expresso furniture, white curtains or blue, purple or blue or brown pillows, white bedding (blankets) and umm blue doors ? and im not sure about the installed drawers . also a purple computer chair for my desk. im really not sure:\ that might look horrible lol. but yeah pleaaaase help me i really need help ! thankyou<3
Why are there cut out holes or "windows" between the rooms in my house? My husband and I recently went to view a home we are very interested in buying. The house was built in 1930 and would have been very contemporary for the time. All through the house there are these holes in the walls between the rooms. They appear to be part of the original design, and look like windows without glass. One of them is a skinny vertical hole between the master bedroom and a small room next to it. There is one between two rooms in the basement. The strangest one is the master bath and it is in a wall that is over the two level kitchen. You could literally drop things from the bathroom down into the kitchen. I believe we counted 5 of them total. I first thought they might be for heating and cooling purposes but a home built in the 1930's doesn't seem old enough for that. Any ideas? They holes are pretty neat. I actually like them a lot, my husband not so much. They don't appear to have ever had glass in them but I would like to add stained glass. They are very interesting perhaps I will be able to find some information on the designer.
Building a house...? We are in the process of designing a house. What are some items you would consider if you were building a house? We have two children ages 4 and 13 for considerations in the options. Wood deck or brick/stone patio? one floor or two floor house? Master bedroom on first or second floor? gas, electric, or geothermal heating? one large living room or two smaller living rooms? Any ideas and why would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
algebra 2 polynomials okay i need super help here i hafta solve this and i have no idea what to do Find the area of your bedroom, Label it A. Using the dimensions of the Master Bedroom in Figure 1, Write an equation using (x 8) as length- L and (2x – 3) as the width-W and the actual area you found for your room-A. Manipulate the equation so that it is set equal to zero, in the form: ax2 bx c = 0... DO NOT SOLVE!!! here is a picture of the design http://es.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=332s5jc&s=4 please and thank you
Need help with punk room designing!? Me and my sister are moving into the master bedroom of my house, and we've got $1000 to redecorate it. One of the themes we're leaning towards is a punk styled bedroom i.e. graffiti walls, skulls, etc. Any ideas??
Should I install a one-way mirror in my daughter's room? She's turning 12, and we're having a new home built. I'm very worried about her. I believe that she might be ingaging in innapropriate activities with her friends. I also feel as though she does dirty things in her room. I think she may look at pornography on her computer! I don't want to moniter what she does online and be invasive, but I also don't want her doing these things. I also believe that she may get playboy magazines from her friends who must have older brothers or something. She always locks her door when she's in there. If I have a one-way mirror, I will be able to check on her, and she will just think that it's a nice decoration. I plan to put many small, square mirrors on her wall, as part of a decoration. The master bedroom closet will share a wall with her room. So she won't know about the other side of the mirror, because I'll cover it with our clothing. And it will be the highest mirror, so she won't be able to look and see through it (if there is enough light on the otherside, you can see through them sometimes). Is this a good plan? I think the design is perfect. What do you think of this idea? And no, my husband won't know about it. I'm too afraid that he may want to take a look someday.
Reluctant to change wood paneling? I never thought I'd say this, but I'm buying a house with wood paneling in it, and oddly, I like it. Usually I hate wood paneling and think it's dated, but the paneling in this house is in the master bedroom and it's very good-quality. It's real wood and is kind of a ski-lodge style knotty pine. It's pretty enough that I would hate to paint over such good-quality wood. So...how do you design around a style like that? I have an idea in my head that it could be a modern rustic look, but I'm not sure how to pull something like that together. I would love it to feel like a romantic, cozy cabin-feel, but with enough modern elements so that it doesn't feel dated. And I don't want it to be atrocious (with like a bear-skin rug or anything). Any tasteful suggestions or links to inspiring photos would be appreciated! Thanks!
What do you think about black interior doors? My husband and I are building a custom, and I would like to paint all our doors black. The floorplan is very open, and the kitchen and living room are basically one big room, which I painted a very bright yellow. Behr's "Bicycle Yellow," to be exact. The master bedroom, for which we chose very light, airy blues, extends from the living room. Of course, there is a guest bathroom in the living room, and a master bath in our room. Three closets in the living room, one in guest bath, one in master bedroom, one in master bath. Those are basically the only rooms on the main level. I'm definitely no pro at interior design, but from pictures I have seen, black doors with white trim look very nice. I'm looking for your opinion. Keep in mind, hubby and I are both in our 20s, and my in-laws (50s-ish) have made it very clear that they do not like the idea. My husband and I, however, love the modern look. What do you think about it, Yahoo community? (EDIT: the floors are a light wood, and our living room furniture is dark brown leather. I'm kind of nervous the browns might clash with black doors :-/) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3oUVMuDHnYY/S5z7APGyAoI/AAAAAAAAFW0/mLsNjOOS4XY/s400/black+bathroom+door.jpg That is what gave me my idea :) The blue and yellow are extremely close to my bedroom and living room colors! Thank you for all of your sweet answers! Also this: http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/Hallway-Beatles-Lyrics-HTOURS0207-de.jpg :D
Is it a bad idea for the children to sleep on the ground floor, & the parents upstairs? We're contemplating a particular house design for our self-build project. The one we like has two rooms, one with en-suite in the upper floor (these rooms have part-sloping walls as it's the roof space). There are two slightly smaller bedrooms downstairs, with a separate bathroom also on the ground floor. We originally thought the kids would take the downstairs rooms, while we took the master bedroom and second upstairs room for our office. However I feel a little uneasy about the children sleeping downstairs, and my parents have expressed the strong view that this would not be safe or suitable. But if the kids sleep go upstairs, they would have the bigger rooms, and one would have an en suite but the other not - doesn't seem ideal! Opinions please?! Redesigning the upper floor layout to include shared bathroom is not easy due to slanty walls.
home construction software? im totally renovation a home i bought. i was wondering what the best software for this is? i am finishing the basement, taking out closets and bathrooms to make the kitchen bigger, combining 2 bedrooms to make a master suite with bath and walk-in. has anyone had experience with a good and fairly cheap software to help me with measurements and give me an idea for where i want to go with it design wise? thanks
How can I get my brother's room? Years ago, my older brother and I shared a room. Eventually, However, we split up and I was put into my own room, to the happiness of both of us. He kept the old room and I got what used to be my sister's room, and my sister moved into what was the playroom with my newborn sister. Another thing I need to mention is that my sisters' room is huge, but that is appropriate because there are two of them and they have a lot of stuff. My brother's room is small, and mine is a bit smaller. Our house was really poorly designed. Half of the second floor is comprised of the master bedroom and bathroom, and about a fourth is my sisters' bedroom and a bathroom that all four kids must share. So, factoring in hallways, that makes our two rooms small. This was one of the reasons that we wanted to split rooms. He got the better room of the two, but I did not mind because it was my own room I was getting. Now, years later, said brother has gone off to college and I have been promised his room. My sister would like to split up with my other sister as well, but I have dibs on my older brother's room, which means that I will get his and she will get mine. She prefers mine anyway, for some reason. Here's the problem: I walk into my brother's room and It's full of crap. I don't mind having some of his stuff in there (I already agreed with him that he can keep some of his books for when he comes home in one of the two shelves) But I do mind not having any room on the dresser, desk, or either or the two bookcases (which he left behind completely filled) at all in which to put my things, or having an abundance of completely filled boxes under the bed. My mom has therefore concluded that before I can move in, we need to complete a room in the unfinished basement where we can set up a room for my brother, where we can move all his stuff into and where he can sleep when he visits during Christmas break or whatever (his college is within an hour or so's drive). Previously the plan was to put the bed in my room back in my brother's (they are bunk beds which have been separated) and when he visits we could share rooms for a few days on the bunk beds and, as for his stuff, we didn't exactly realize how much crap (mostly papers he refuses to get rid of, maps and conlangs and such) he owned. This is all fine and good, right? let the guy live in a new basement room, right? That could do not harm, right? WRONG. In the ten years my family has lived in this particular house, we have built three walls and half-completed a bathroom in which we installed the shower knobs backwards. the idea of me ever getting that room before I head to college myself is now slim to none, unless I want to hold off on college for about seventy years. I really want, and in many ways need, that room. My closet is stuffed with spy-gear crap from when I was little, and my mom says I can't go through my possessions to pick what to throw away until I move, which means until I start to move I can't use three-fourths of my closet. My bed is tiny and the mattress is quite uncomfortable (oddly enough his bed is bigger then mine, which is weird because they are separated bunk beds... this is because the top bunk was smaller because it was designed so that little kids could more easily climb the latter, which was tilted). Another point is that my dresser is so old, and the drawers, which are not on tracks or anything, can take two minutes each to open when full (they are seldom not full, as they are so small) as opposed to his dresser which has more drawers which are bigger and easier to open and close. Also, there is an old windows 95 PC set up in there, which is lots of fun to tinker around with because it has tons (upwards of 100) of awesome old games installed on it. My brother does not technically own it but somehow it got set up in his room and he messes with all the settings and password protects it, and says that he'll give me the password when I move in. Also, because I am an avid reader and have no room for any bookshelves in my room, The best that I can do with my collection of books is stack them atop my sad excuse for a desk if there is room (which is rare) or on the floor in neat stacks and yell at people who walk too near them. this words okay, but it's harder to dig through books which are stacked atop each other than it is to get a book out of books held upright among one another, and over time the books that get less use sink to the bottom of the pile get all dog-eared, which is, needless to say, unacceptable. He promised me one of the bookcases in that room, which is one of the things that I look forward to most eagerly, but it's full of books and papers and I can't use it because, not only is it occupied, but I'm not allowed to touch anything in his room at all (it is still HIS room, you know). Forgive my whining, but I really need his room. what can I do to make it more possible f
Can I extract into a disused Chimney Breast? To all Chimney experts / builders / anyone else in the know how, I am set to buy a house soon and am thinking of designing the kitchen. The current kitchen (in the property to be bought) is miniature. So I will bring down the soft wall separating the kitchen and the dining room to make an open planned kitchen Diner and use the current dining room as the kitchen. The problem I have is there is no external wall in that space where an extractor can go above the cooker. However, there is a disused chimney breast and the gas fire place is still in place. I wanted to block that fire place and brick it up, and have my cabinets on that wall, and then have the extractor on that wall extracting into the chimney breast and out of the house. This is a 2 storey house with the proposed kitchen area on the ground floor directly under what will be the kids bedroom. Finally, there are two fire places downstairs (lounge and diner next to each other) but it merges into one breast upstairs in master bedroom (no fire place there). I will also condemn and brick up the fire place in the lounge. What are my options please? I live in London (UK) and hence would be grateful for any advice specially about building regs that have to be observed in assessing whether my idea is sound and safe. Thanks in advance. Please feel free to email me. Jeff
How much would renovation cost? (SG)? Hey, my parents and I are considering to upgrade our flat, a 5room hdb flat. We aren't going for a major upgrade as we do not intend to stay on this flat for another 15years. What we decided to do is, 1. Both bathrooms' tiles to be hack, replaced, and add fixtures (sink, shower head, etc.) 2. Living room +dining room to add a L-shaped ceiling. And also a paste-design for the entire ceiling. (It will show a pattern on the ceiling.) 3. Add aircon for all rooms. (change) So, the cost for the above propose idea will be... ...? (It will be great if there is a price breakdown.) The most important thing would be to remodel the ceiling and the master's bedroom toilet. Air-condition is 2nd priority as we have already have them, just need to change. Thanks. :D
Wandering 3 year old? My 3 year old son seems not to need sleep, haha. no seriously he wakes between 4 and 6 am and wanders around our home, useally getting into things he is not supposed to. Our home is poorly designed (the kids bedrooms are on the 1st floor and the master, kitchen and livingroom is on the 2nd floor). I dont know what to do to keep him in bed any ideas?
I need help decorating my new Teen room (P.S. i am a male)??? Any tips?? Thanks heaps, Ethan

please read this story i wrote. By a 6th grader? Hollywood Troubles “Hhhhh, Julia sighed. It’s just another day, another ordinary day” Julia Lintheart was staring out her window, looking at the warm summer day. There were blue skies, green grass, you’d think it be perfect. But no. She was in a dismal mood. “Why should I be the only one not having fun? She thought to herself. “It’s just not fair”. Julia sighed once again as she stroked her long brown hair that draped around her right shoulder with her soft, pale hands. Julia was mad because she was the only one who hadn’t done adventurous over the summer. Time was running out only 3 weeks before the 9th grade. She had to something that she could remember the 8th grade summer by and something everyone else would remember her, Julia, by. Julia went downstairs into the kitchen of her medium sized home. The kitchen was a light tan color, with oak wood cabinets. There was a stainless steel oven, dishwasher and microwave. Her mother was loading dishes into the dishwasher as she came downstairs. “Well, we have to go pick up your little sister Rose from her friend, Lavender’s house”, her mother replied holding a white plate. “Do I have to come? Why can’t I say home with Dad? Er, wait Dad’s never home”, Julia said in a quiet tone, “He’s always on some tour, I just keep forgetting. “ As a rookie film producer he is very busy, but he’s quite good at it. He seems to have a knack for it. “I know, but it’s been two whole months. Sometimes I just wish he could come home. “We all do, Jules”, he mother said wiping her hands on the white towel. Was this remark supposed to make her feel better? Because she didn’t feel any better. In fact she felt sadder. ”Anyway, Julia you have to come.” “Why can’t I stay home? I’m old enough”, Julia inquired. “I know Julia but you have to go shopping you need clothes for fall. In case you are wondering Julia had already bought clothes for the winter last week. Julia wanted to roll her blue eyes but kept herself from doing so. Instead she said “whats wrong with the clothes I have”, glancing down at her dark blue jeans and her ABERCROMBIE t-shirt. Almost instantaneously her obsessive-shopping mother answered. “Your jeans are ripped, they’re too old and--- Julia cut her mother off. “Old. What do you mean old! 3 weeks ago, that’s old”! “Julia you are going shopping and that’s final”, her mother replied in a stern voice. Julia groaned. “When are we going?” “Half an hour” she answered. Julia went back up the spiral stair case and into her bedroom. Her bedroom was a light blue color. There was a twin sized bedroom that was right in the middle of her room. She walked on the soft carpet of her bedroom. She layed on her tootsie roll pillow. A raindrop fell on her window. It started to sprinkle outside. The blue skies turned gray. Julia didn’t know what to do. “Jules come on 1et’s go”, her mother called putting on her black trench coat. Julia dragged her feet down the steps. She went to the entrance hall of her home. She put her tennis shoes on and grabbed the black umbrella. Julia and her mother walked out the front door , and hopped into the silver minivan. Her mother backed out of the drive way. “Julia?” Her mother asked. “Yeah”, she answered. Mrs. Lintheart took a deep breath. “I-I just got off the”, she faltered. How do I put this nicely”? Julia, I just got off the phone with dad. We’re moving”. ~CHAPTER 2~ A million questions raced through her mind. Where are we moving? When are leaving? Why are we going? What are my friends going to think? “I’m sorry”, Mrs. Lintheart said apologetically. Julia didn’t know why he mother was so sorry. She wasn’t so mad herself. “Should I be mad”? She asked her mother. “No. Not at all, I just didn’t know how you were going to react”, she answered turning around a curb. “Where are we going?” Julia asked rather excited. “Hollywood”, her mother replied. Julia’s eyes widened and her jaw dropped. “What did you say?” “Well”, Mrs. Lintheart started. Your father has a role opening, and he needs a girl about your age. If you get it were staying at least till the movie is over. If you don’t we’re going to keep your father company. At this point Julia stopped listening. She didn’t need to be told anything more. She knew where this conversation was going. “So does this mean I get to be a star”? She asked being her curious self. “Actually no. You have to complete the auditions first.” She said adjusting her rearview mirror. Julia was a bit disappointed but was determined. They pulled into a driveway. “Oh and Jules, it’s best not to tell Rose about this”. The rain fell harder by the second. Julia sighed once again, but this time a good sigh. A sigh that meant I’m ready. Ready to be a star. She could picture herself. A millionaire, being pampered, and having the best life ever. Julia opened the car door. She opened the umbrella. They walked up the long driveway and rang the doorbell. Ding-Dong. A tall looking mother opened the door. Julia gaped at the sight of the house. From the outside you’d think it was a normal house, but it wasn’t. The foyer was huge. It had a ceiling so high it seemed like it was endless. There was a bright chandelier that came down almost blinding to the naked eye. The walls had a light gold design. “Oh my”, the tall women said pointing to the window. “It looks terrible out there”. “I know some weather”, Julia’s mother agreed. “Mom, mom, mom”, came Lavendar, Rose’s best friend. “Can Rose stay a bit longer?” “Only if it’s O.K with Rose’s mother”, Lavendar’s mother said with a chuckle. Julia glanced up at her mothers and gave her one of her I-don’t-want-to-stay-at-a-6 year old-house looks. Mrs. Lintheart patted Julia on her shoulder and smiled. One of her only-for-tonight-smiles. Perfect, Julia thought. I am wasting my time at a 6 year olds house. As Lavendar and Rose chatted away Mrs. Anderson (Lavendar’s mom) offered Julia and her mother some tea or coffee. They both politely refused by saying “no thank you”. The 3 went into the living room. Julia had already adjusted to the Anderson’s immense house but that did not change the fact that it was huge. In the living room the walls were a deep reddish-maroon color. There was a 72 inch plasma screen that stood there ready to be used. “Why don’t you have a seat”, Mrs. Anderson told Julia. “oh wait, would you rather go to home theater?” Julia smiled. “Oh that won’t be necessary”, Julia’s mother answering for her. Julia reluctantly gave a slight nod of her head. “Mom, why would you say something like that? Of course, I would rather watch a movie than listen to adults talk, she thought to herself. Julia was mad at her mother. “Oh well, she while thinking of all her unanswered questions. At 6:30 pm Julia’s mother decided that it was time to go home. “Lavendar, Rose” Mrs. Anderson called from the bottom of the deep blue colored carpet. They came sprinting down the steps. “Mommy”, I don’t want Rose to leave, Lavendar whined. “I’m afraid they’ve got to”, Mrs. Anderson said. She opened the door. By this time it was raining very hard. BOOM, they heard thunder. They saw a flash it was lightening. “Whoa”, Rose said. “It doesn’t seem to safe out there, you’re welcome to stay with us for the night”, Mrs. Anderson offered. “OH thank you we don’t have much of a choice, really” Mrs. Lintheart said. Julia couldn’t believe her ears. Was this really happening? No. No way. Not if she could help it. Julia gave her mother another one of her “looks”. Her mother gave her one of her “smiles”. “Only for tonight”, she added just in case Julia couldn’t understand her smile. “Ughhhhhh”, Julia thought in her mind. All this time Julia was trying to focus on the positive. O.k. I said trying. Lavendar was talking to Rose about how they have so many rooms, so they could sleep. The five went to the living room and turned the 72 inch television on to the weather channel. “We are looking at severe thunderstorms throughout the Chicago area”, the reporter announced. Julia would rather walk home in the rain than stay. She went upstairs with the adults and overheard that Rose would be sleeping in Lavendar’s bedroom and Julia and her mother would be staying in one of the three guest bedrooms. Mrs. Anderson showed them there room. It was like all the other rooms. Big. As you have probably comprehended by now Julia must dread in despair through the night. Fine. O.K. Well, I guess it’s not that bad. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter ehat you and I think, it’s up to Julia. I just write it down. They went back down stairs. “Oh dear”, Mrs. Anderson said looking directly at Rose. You must be starving. Do you want to eat something? “No, I’m not hungry; Rose replied in her high pitched voice, I want to play with Lavendar. Lavendar followed by Rose then Julia, and then the adults into the playroom. The playroom had a mini ball pit, a play slide, and lots of books mainly fairy tales. Ii also had pink and white striped walls. The grown-ups laughed and smiled. Suddenly the lights went out. It was pitch black. ~CHAPTER 3~ Mrs. Anderson could find her path through the criss-crossing hallway, down the steps, and into the room that contained the flashlight. She pressed the on button and a yellow beam of color shot out. The silver flashlight illuminated everything in its way. Anita Anderson walked up the steps, back through the criss-crossing, and into the playroom. As she entered the playroom she noticed two little bodies curled up on the play mats. Their eyes were shut tight and you could hear snoring. Mrs. Lintheart whispered something into Mrs. Anderson’s ear. Instantaneously, Anita walked out of the room and then came back in. Her arms were full of multi-colored sleeping bags. Julia was furious at once but kept her anger to herself. She wanted to atleast sleep on the bed. Julia’s mother helped unroll each of the five different color sleeping bags. Julia slipped into her red one , taking off her sweatshirt and placing it beside her. Julia had to admit she was a bit tired, although it was only 15 past eight. She closed her eyes, adjusted her pillow, and fell off into a deep sleep. She dreamt of pleasant dreams. “Hollywood”, she quietly murmured in her sleep. She was picturing herself getting the part, becoming a millionaire…you get the rest. The rest of her dreams were put to an end by the voice of her mother. “Juls”, she said quietly standing next to Julia. Time to get up” Julia rubbed her eyes, and stretched her legs as she sat up straight in her “bag”. She walked out yawning. She rolled it up into a neat ball. Julia realized that there were four empty sleeping bags beside her. She picked up her sleeping bag and followed her mother downstairs. She was to drowsy to speak. Lavendar and Rose were making a loud din chasing each other around the kitchen. Julia could smell the aroma of fresh blueberry pancakes being made. Julia loved pancakes. She sat down at the large maple wood table as two pancakes were placed in front of her. She was starving so she devoured them, but in a neat way. * * * * * * * * * ~Later that evening~ Julia had gotten back to her home. Julia was wondering what the auditions were going to be like and what she had to do to get the part. “Briing, briiiing”, the phone rang. She ran into the master bedroom and picked up the black phone. “Hello”, Julia called into the phone. “Juls, is that you?”, her dad asked “Yeah it’s me”, she said puzzled. “Who are you”? “Your daddy”, her dad replied. Julia gasped at these words. She couldn’t even recognize he fathers voice. He was touring Spain for ideas. “ Hi”. “ Honey, your just the person I wanted to talk to. I bet your mother has already told you about”, he paused. “Hollywood”, Julia finished for him squirming with joy. Her dad took a deep breath. “Um er about that, we need a girl for the part”, he started talking faster as he went along. Youre perfect for the part. I asked the producer and he said maybe. He aslso said that me being the director can’t do with anything with you getting the part. Anyway, you still have to audition a couple of lines. There aren’t many people competing for it. 16 including you to be exact. But you don’t have to move to Hollywood, you don’t even have to try out for the part if you don’t want to. “Dad, Julia started. I want to do everything you just mentioned. I want to move, get the part and become rich.“Just one question. What’s it about?” “Ah”, can’t tell you. “Huh”?, Julia asked baffled. “Show biz policy. You have exactly 24 hours to rehearse for the auditions. Julia gawked. “ So you are saying that I have 1 day practice”? “That’s right”, he answered casually. Then everything got quiet. A mysterious quiet. A chilling quiet. “Julia”, he whispered. Then he hung up. ~CHAPTER 4~ Julia pressed the round black button to off the phone. “What was that all about”? she wondered. She had so much to get ready for. Could she do it? Julia had no idea what the movie was about. Julia walked into the family room. It had two beige colored couches and a T.Vimon. She found Rose watching Bob the Builder. IT had just started so the theme song was playing. “Bob the Builder. Can he fix it? The T.V yelled. “Bob the builder. Yes he can!! Rose chimed in. “Rose, can I please watch now”? Julia asked as she turned her head away from the obnoxious show. “Nope”, Rose replied with her eyes still glue to the television. Julia didn’t bother arguing with her younger sister. So, she went upstairs to her bedroom and got out her pink cell phone. She called her two best friends Ally, and Nicole cell. Ally is a long haired blonde who loved nothing more than a good old adventure. Julia and Ally were alike because they both liked an adventure, but Ally was far more daring. I guess you could call her a risk taker. “Hey ally”, Julia called into the phone “ It’s Julia”. “Oh hey” Ally said. “Over the last few days I heard really big news. You know how my dad’s a film director and all”, Julia asked. “Yeah”, Ally replied wondering why her best friend was telling her something she already knew. “They have a part open, and I’m auditioning”, Julia squeaked. The two of them screamed with excitement. “When are you going”? Ally asked unable control her curiosity. “3 weeks, I could try to invite you. If you’d like”, she added. There was a slight pause in which Ally was thinking. Thinking about the “movie”. Was this really going to happen? “3 weeks”, she repeated. You do know what’s happening in 3 weeks, right? Julia was stunned. Here she was telling Ally the best news of her life so far but all she could about was school! “School, so”, Julia asked. “I can’t skip school”, Ally said rather mean. “I’m sorry, I am not trying to brag or anything”, Julia said. “I know”, Ally said back in her soft voice. “Bye”, Julia said. “Bye”, Ally said. Julia lied against her tootsie roll pillow. She looked out of her window. There was little light still shinning through them. Julia called Nicole. Nicole was the least adventurous. Unlike Julia and Ally, Nicole preferred to be “out of danger”. She liked adventures but if there was a slim chance of her getting in trouble she was out. Somehow she had always been dragged along. She was ind of short compared to the others, and had short brown hair. They continued their conversation for a while. This time it had gone much smoother. ~CHAPTER 5~ Days turned into weeks of boredom. One week until the big move. Ally invited Nicole and Julia over to her house. They greeted each other at the crisp white door. They went to Ally’s room. IT was messy. Clothes were on the ground along with her CD’s of her favorite bands: Daughtry and Maroon 5. There were school books scattered here and there. IN conclusion it was messy. Ally cleared a spot on the colorful bed and motioned for the two of them to sit down. “So Juls” Nicole started. “When’s the audition”? “One week”, Julia said. Nicole and Ally looked at each other and nodded their heads. “What”? Julia asked. “ We are going to get you ready for the movie in case you get the part”, Ally said. “We are? Nicole asked. What about the other thing”? “What other thing”, Julia said with a confused look on her face. “ We can do that later”, Ally suggested ignoring Julia’s question. Ally is more of a tomboy as you probably have figured out by now. After you read what’s next you will be surprised. “Wear these”, Ally told holding out a pair of silver sparkly high heels. “Why do I need these”, Julia said scared. Not a scared-scared but a scared-to-wear-high-heels-shoes-scared. “ Are you sure we won’t get in trouble, because I doubt those are your shoes, no offense Ally”, Nicole asked being her worried self. “Relax”, Ally said ignoring Julia’s question once again. Julia put the shoes on her feet. She started to wobble. She took two steps without falling and the third she fell to the ground with a thunk. “Ow”, Julia yelled. She had twisted her ankle. It wasn’t that bad but it still hurt. “Bad idea. Are you O.K? ” ally asked. “I knew something like this was going to happen. Are you O.K Juls? I am sooooooooo sorry. Nicole started to mumbled a few more words. “I’m fine”, Julia lied because it still hurt but her worrying friend went on. Ally apologized to Julia for making her wear the high heels although Julia knew that it was the clothes on the messy floor that made her trip not the shoes. * * * * * * * * One week had gone by like that. Back at the Lintheart’s Rose was throwing a fit after Mrs. Lintheheart explained where and why they were moving. “It’s not fair. It’s not fair at all. Why does she get everything she wants? It’s not fair”, Rose pouted stomping her tiny feet on the ground. “Now Rose be patient, her mother started, you’ll get turn. “I don’t want to be patient”, Rose said angrily. Julia came downstairs with her suitcase. They had packed earlier and were on there way. They piled into the silver minivan. When they arrived at the airport they waited. If you have a younger sibling and are going somewhere you probably know how it is. They create a scene, then a million pair of eyes look your way and well, you get humiliated. That’s exactly what Rose did. So I am not going to waste my time and your time describing the humiliation of Julia. They boarded the plane. The plane was quite small, but it had comfortable seats. The windows were shaped rectangles. Rose got the window seat, her mother was in the middle, and Julia got the aisle seat. As soon as Julia sat down she fell asleep. “Jules”, Mrs. Lintheart whispered. Julia’s eyes slightly opened then closed again. “Jules”, Mrs. Lintheart said a little louder. Nothing. “JULIA”, Rose screamed at the top of her lungs. Julia abruptly opened her eyes. She looked around the rest of the plane was empty. “We’re here, Mrs. Lintheart announced, in Hollywood”. ~CHAPTER 7~ They checked their luggage in. The people there were all very well-dressed. IT was mainly adults who were walking through the long lines. “Right outside this airport is Hollywood”, Julia whispered to Rose. “Just a few more minutes, Julia, Mrs. Lintheart explained. Then we will go by taxi to our hotel. “What’s our hotel like”? Rose asked her mother. Well, it’s called Hollywood Orchid Suites. It’s not too fancy but it is expensive, her mother replied as the three of them walked towards the door. We have been given the deluxe suite. Julia wasn’t listening she kept walking with her eyes focused on the door. Julia swung it open. There was a giant hill with HOLLYWOOD printed on it in big white letters. All three of the faces smiled. There was also a busy road making not too hard to find a taxi cab. They hopped in the bright yellow cab. “Where to”? The cab driver asked in his deep-commercial-like voice. “The Hollywood Orchid Suite”, Rose said in her high pitched voice answering for her mother. He driver dropped them off and waved goodbye. Mrs. Lintheart led the way inside while Rose took her time skipping and twirling in her ridiculously pink blouse and her pink sparkly shirt to match. They walked into the lobby. “ Who might you be”, the guy behind the counter asked Rose. “My name is Rose Lintheart”, Rose answered. “Lintheart eh”, the guy behind the counter said as he started to type something in the computer. “Ah yes, you will be staying in suite #339. Enjoy your stay”, he added as they started to walk away. Julia twisted the knob of suite #339. It wouldn’t budge. “You have to use the key card silly”, Rose said twirling. Julia didn’t remember Rose getting the key card from the guy behind the counter. Anyway, Julia slid the card inside and waited for the small green light to come up. She opened the door and walked inside. The room was cool. Two king sized beds, two T.V’s and a bathroom. On one of the beds they found a note. Julia read it aloud. Dear Julia Lintheart, We would like to inform you that your audition will take place tomorrow at Hollywood Studios. Be there no later than 12:00 pm. Your lines are attached to this note. Good Luck. “What else does it say?” Mrs. Lintheart asked. Your Lines You: Mom I’m bored. (say in a whiny voice) Mom: We have to go pick up your sister then go to the mall. You: Again? I hate going there. Mom: We need clothes for fall. You: Don’t I need clothes for winter first? Mom: We got those last week. Julia practiced with her mother. She stumble on every other word. “What was that”, Rose said being mean. Julia shot her a nasty look. “I’m just saying, Rose continued, that you acted better at Lavendar’s house”. “What are you talking about”? Julia asked, as if Rose was crazy. “You acted as if you hated going to Lavendar’s house when you enjoyed it. You pretended to be mad but you had nothing better to do. Julia knew that she was partially correct. Fine, Julia knew she was a hundred percent correct, but she still acted like Rose was crazy. “Why don’t you try again, Julia”, Mrs. Lintheart said trying to break the tension between the two sisters. Julia tried again and got it almost perfect. “What’s this”, Rose said pointing to the piece of paper with the lines on it. Julia took the piece of paper out of Rose’s hands. She looked at it carefully, there was another verse of lines. Do I have to recite these lines too, she thought to herself. The lines were sad. They were about girl who finds her long lost mother. “Let’s practice these too”, Julia told her mother. They practiced. There was crying scene that Julia just couldn’t get right. “Try thinking of something sad”, Rose said. Julia took this advice. She thought and thought but couldn’t find anything sad. Julia finally got something from her own life. Her dad. It seemed so long since Julia had seen him. Tears welled up in her eyes. “Mom, when will we see dad”? “If you get the part soon enough, if you don’t we could still visit him on set, but we’d have to notify him first”. Julia had a mission. The same mission as before (to get the part) but for a different reason. She longed to see her father. ~CHAPTER 8~ She slept through the night. She was ready, only half an hour till auditions. She was given an outfit to wear (provided by Hollywood Studios). It was a light blue baby doll top with black leggings. The lobby was big and grand. I do not know how to describe it other than the simple words big and grand. They went through the double doors and outside. They fetched a cab and rode on the busy streets of Hollywood. They pulled into the parking lot of Hollywood Studio. They walked inside and saw 15 other girls waiting to audition. Since she was the last audition, she saw some girls coming out crying, and others expressionless. It had black floors and there were three judges. There was also a person next to her that acted like the mom. The judges explained that she could choose either of the two verses to audition. Julia considered this thought very carefully. At the end she decided that she would choose the mall one because she practiced it more and she could relate to it better. Julia had butterflies in her stomach. She spoke clearly, and said the words with emotion. Julia felt a bit better. She thought that she had nailed the audition, but only time would tell if she got the part. She waited in the room along with the other girls. She was nervous. The main judge came out. He cleared his throat, “The winner who gets the part is Julia Lintheart.” Julia gasped. “Me”, Julia said scarcely believing what she just heard. Julia ran over her mother and gave her a hug. “Rose, thanks for your advice it really worked, and I knew you were right all along”, Julia told her sister. Julia felt like this was too good to be true. She had accomplished her mission, but still so many unanswered questions. Little did Julia realize that this was only the beginning.
Indian-Style Interior Design. Any ideas? I am designing a master bedroom for a house I'm moving into next year and I am looking for ideas. I am thinking I want an Indian theme, and since I am visiting India this summer, I want to get the main idea sketched out before I leave (So i can buy fabrics and stuff there) Does anyone have any good pictures of Indian-designed rooms, or any cool ideas? Thanks a lot!
