Don't you think the master bedroom for houses in united states are kind of small? considering that two adult people are there and it will have all their stuff Like i think a master bedroom should be the size of a hotel room... that way the husband and the wife can have their their own nooks in the room like a sitting place near the window for reading and like if he hubby likes video games and wants to play b4 bed and for me a pretty vanity table area I have beautiful vintage things like a jewerly box and I would want to display it nicely in my own personal room and a bigger size would allow for that master bedrooms from the design I've seen really own have room for a king size bed and side tables and maybe a tv I find it strange I would have more room single and more area for self expression (I love interior designing) I don't know what I'm going to do ... maybe a personalized house but I don't want to waste money if it's going to be much more expensive anyways what are your thoughts and feelings?

Interior design advice - guest bedroom? I have a guest bedroom that has a black cast iron double bed frame, white double wardrobe (Ikea Hemnes), white bedside tables matching the wardrobe, cream walls and cream curtains. I have just moved house and therefore cannot afford to buy new furniture and I want to keep the cream walls so advice required on what else I can do to put some colour into the room... What colour bedding and accessories does anyone recommend? I don't want a bland room but don't want something too personal as it is the guest room so could have a whole mixture of ages staying i.e. parents, or mates! I can afford to buy brand new bedding, throws, cushions, bedside lamps and accessories. The master bedroom is crisp white bedding, cream walls, oak furniture which splashes of deep red so don't want the guest room to be the same. Ideas/links gratefully appreciated as I am stuck for ideas! Thank you!
Help me decorate my master bedroom!? I love pretty much anything Pottery Barn...Cozy, luxurious, neutral with a splash of color. My master bedroom is 14x20 with one large picture window and a smaller, skylight type window above it (there's a vaulted ceiling). We have His and Hers closets and a bathroom. All the doors are white, the trim is oak, the the floor is gunstock oak. I am clueless when it comes to interior design. Thanks!! :)

Interior design super challenge!!? well it might not be a super challenge to some... Am currently designing the master bedroom cupboards for our new house. They will fill one wall of our bedroom which also incorporates one large window. My husband wants a tv in the bedroom....and I don't. There is the challenge. I won't put it on the floor because our bedroom is not huge and we are losing space to the cupboards...but you can't not have those. I refuse to lose space in the cupboards to accommodate the TV because we are already lost space for the window and the radiator which is under it. I thought a small flat screen on a wall bracket (especially if both were white) but hubby won't go for it. Then I thought attach it to the side of the cupboard in the window recess on a swing bracket...hubby thinks....what if one day you open the window and you smack the tv (window is open out and unchangeable). I then thought maybe attach the tv (all flat screens I'm talking here) to the front of the cupboards...and make the panel that the tv is fixed to ...uh...fixed....ie...you can't open it....and all the seldom used stuff (formal clothes) in the recess behind it.....but I thought that would just be ugly and in your face....because all the other options are sort of out of your way. Sigh. Also thought of putting the tv at the top of the cupboards...because they are 3m in height and there are a row of cupboards at the top (at 2.2m in height) that are supposed to be for sheets and blankets etc. But hubby says its too high. Sigh.... was also thinking of like a projector and a pull down screen but thinking maybe then you can't watch tv in the daytime. Urgh!! Billy Bee...thankyou for a completely unhelpful completely assuming answer. I like looking at flowers but for some reason hate them in the house and in my garden. I hate knick knacks and its my husband forcing curtains on me...I'd rather nothing at all or plantation shutters. And whilst I'd rather no TV...course he can have a TV in his own bedroom....I'd just wish he make up his bloody mind where he wants it!
Modern interior design links...? hey friends...can you send me of a good website links showing modern interior design photos - living room, bathrooms, master bedroom?thanks thanks
What is the layout of a condominium? I have to do this scholarship competition and it says to do the floor plan (this is for an interior design program) of a condominium for two people who love to shop at Windsor Store (which is a store that has prom dresses, other dresses, etc.) and I was wondering if I should include a master bedroom or not, because that means one of them doesn’t get a master bedroom, but condominiums don’t have two master bedrooms, correct? Please help.
Need Spanish Translation for House Interior Design.? Downstairs: Living room with all the furnishings. One easy chair and two large sofas. A fireplace for when it gets cold during the winter. Dining room with a large dining table and many chairs for when we have dinner parties. A chandelier would make the room look more elegant. Kitchen with expensive appliances. Large refrigerator for all the food. Dishwasher because I hate to do the dishes. Stove and oven to cook the meals. There would be one bathroom downstairs with only a toilet and sink. Upstairs: One master bedroom and five regular bedrooms. The master bedroom would have a king size bed and large walk-in closet for all the clothes. Each of the other bedrooms would have queen size beds with smaller closets. The master bedroom would have its own bathroom with an large shower, toilet, and sink. There would be two other bathrooms upstairs with regular showers, toilets, and sinks.
What do you think about black interior doors? My husband and I are building a custom, and I would like to paint all our doors black. The floorplan is very open, and the kitchen and living room are basically one big room, which I painted a very bright yellow. Behr's "Bicycle Yellow," to be exact. The master bedroom, for which we chose very light, airy blues, extends from the living room. Of course, there is a guest bathroom in the living room, and a master bath in our room. Three closets in the living room, one in guest bath, one in master bedroom, one in master bath. Those are basically the only rooms on the main level. I'm definitely no pro at interior design, but from pictures I have seen, black doors with white trim look very nice. I'm looking for your opinion. Keep in mind, hubby and I are both in our 20s, and my in-laws (50s-ish) have made it very clear that they do not like the idea. My husband and I, however, love the modern look. What do you think about it, Yahoo community? (EDIT: the floors are a light wood, and our living room furniture is dark brown leather. I'm kind of nervous the browns might clash with black doors :-/) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3oUVMuDHnYY/S5z7APGyAoI/AAAAAAAAFW0/mLsNjOOS4XY/s400/black+bathroom+door.jpg That is what gave me my idea :) The blue and yellow are extremely close to my bedroom and living room colors! Thank you for all of your sweet answers! Also this: http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/Hallway-Beatles-Lyrics-HTOURS0207-de.jpg :D
Redesigning my mom's bedroom for Mother's Day? My mom has been dying to redo her and my stepdad's bedroom since they moved into the place. Their furniture is kinda mismatched, there's no organization, the walls are a funky tan, and the whole thing just needs a face lift. My whole family agrees that I have an eye for interior design and every room I have designed for myself and other members of my family looks great. I'm hoping to get my stepdad on board with the idea of repainting his and my mom's room as a Mother's Day present, along with getting everything in order and restaining the furniture and (maybe) replacing some of it. She just bought a new comforter set, so I'm working with the colors in it: Steel grey, light aqua, and a dark aqua/teal shade in a geometric pattern of squares. Details about the rest of the room: -mostly wooden furniture, though the bedframe is a black metal. -small, standard double-wide "master bedroom." -small closet and a fairly large bathroom. I'd also like to repaint it if I can. - Budget is a few hundred dollars, no more than $300 I would assume. -Would have to be done in a weekend with a crew of three-five people. I was thinking these colors, with the grey being the main color and the teal as an accent: Valspar "Backstroke" Haven't picked out a grey yet....I'm thinking a fairly light one since the room is small, without a blue undertone. Looking for more of a silver undertone to it. Probably a gallon of each color. I also want to restain the furniture. I DO have experience in all this. I was thinking a matte black to match the headboard of the bed? Ideas for the closet? It needs desperate organizing! Ceiling needs a coat of Kilz and then a coat of white. Both it and the trim would be the same shade of white. Any other tips or suggestions?
interior design debate? my parents are getting divorced, (plz dont waste charachters on that) and my mom is moving out, i plan on staying with my much nicer dad, but in the case that my mom takes me captive, she wants to decorate her new place like a beach house. one prblem : WE LIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF OHIO i am trying to convince her to go for a more apropriate design scheme, freestyle, but with my good taste (i want to take over the project) make it just look beutiful, and even if i stay with my dad, he will need redecorate the bright-green-and-floral master bedroom, and convert my sisters bedrooms etheir into more square footage for me, or a lounge/ loft. and our kitchen needs a major makover. we (my dad and i) are teck geeks, I AM A FEMALE and i neeeedddd heeellllllppppp plllleeeeaaasssee PM, yea, my mom grew up on a beach, soooo, shes just really confused, and no, we live 2 hrs from lake erie
Do you have good interior design ideas? My dad got a new house it isn't very big but decent size. It is two story with 2 reasonably sized bedrooms a big master bedroom, 3 bathrooms, living room, den, big kitchen and a medium sized backyard with a pool. Since the entire house is painted white on the inside and most of the plants are dead my dad is giving me a $3,000 budget to renovate it with one sole purpose. He wants to make it fancy, so not home-y or tribal. I get to do every room and need some ideas to make it appear fancy and have a classy feel throughout the house. Any ideas?
What is best? Headboard only? Or Headboard+Footboard? I am about to order an iron bed for the master bedroom in my 1940s bungalow home. (See the bed here: http://www.charlesprogers.com/cottage-bed-p-29.html?cPath=6_67.) I am trying to decide between ordering the headboard alone, or the full bed (including footboard). I've looked at several design websites, and very few beds have footboards. What is the trend right now, in terms of interior design?
Please read and answer????? ok so for school me and my friend did a report on how math is used in interior design. here it is and we need you to tell us if its good or bad. if its bad pleaseeeee tell us whats missing. Math is at Work in Interior Design How is math in interior design? We interview different people and figured out the math is one of the biggest parts for interior design. The first way that math is used in interior design is by finding the different measurements of the room. Interior designers use the following units of measurement; feet, inches, yards (for fabrics) and square footage. When you measure the area of the walls that is when you will use square footage. To find the square footage of a room you need to multiply the length of a wall by the width. We learned this from a person at Heritage Design Concierge who we spoke to on October 9th, 2008. Another way that math is used in interior design is in the plan view. As we learned from Erickson Design Associate on October 9th, 2008, everyone needs room. This would be called proximity. Proximity shows how much space a person needs, it also relates to anthropometric matter. Anthropometric matter is wheter the person is an adult, a kid, or how big they are. You need to know this to find out how much space you need for the person or people who will be living in it. You need to measure the space in the room so you know how to design it so that it is suitable for them to live in it. Most interior designers will have a plan view for the room. The plan view shows how your going to design the room for the person/people. You use math in this by getting good measurements for the room and furniture. This is one of the biggest parts of interior design using measurements. A third way that math is used in interior design is in putting furniture, and other things in the room. First you need to find what furniture your looking for and measure it. Write that down on a piece of paper and bring it back to the room you are designing. Find out if it fits in the room by measuring the area you were going to but it in. You will mostly do that for everything you are putting in there. You are only going to be estimating with the wall paper and floors. They do not require exact measurements. For example, say with the floors you need 233 square feet for the master bedroom, you would get 300 square feet. This is because there might be tricky edges along the way and you would have extra for that because you don’t know how much extra you need. That would be estimating. Now, for fitting in other objects, like window treatments you first of all need to find out how big the window is. After finding out that you need to measure the window treatments you want to make sure they will fit correctly. Find the length and width of the windows using inches. Then it should all be easy to find the right window treatments. Lastly, for the paint on the walls, you will find the square footage of the wall. So say the square footage for the wall is 100 square feet, you would find a paint bucket that can fit a wall for 100 square feet. All in all for interior design you use a lot of math. It is so important when designing a room that you do the calculations correctly. Otherwise everything could go wrong. It may be a little difficult but when you actually learn a lot about interior design, it can be pretty easy. Now we have answered the question, how is math used in interior design?
interior designers... tray ceiling with or without ceiling fan? we are building a house to sell....so simply from a design perspective, what looks better for a tray ceiling? inside or outside of tray having potlights? and a ceiling fan or chandelier....its a master bedroom. just looking for your preference of what looks good. I have always felt ceiling fans were big and clunky but the rest of the group here thinks the fan is the proper thing to put in.
Can the rooms in a house be of different styles? I'm doing a project for school that involves designing the floor plan of a mansion and doing interior design for the newly designed mansion. However, I'm wondering if the various rooms in the mansion can be of different styles. I'm working in the postmodernist style for the architecture. The mansion itself has a Baroque front with a more modern-style back (lots and lots of windows). For the master bedroom, I want the furniture to be Baroque. For the living room, I want it to be contemporary. So is it okay that the rooms in the mansion are based on different styles or does all the furniture design have to be Baroque-style or contemporary-styled, etc?

Where on a housing floor plan do you think is the best place for the bedrooms and bathrooms? I eventually want to build our own house so I'm trying to decide where and how I want to put what room and exactly what I want. Well... here's a few things... the whole house needs to be one floor because I was in a car accident in 2004 that I'm told I'm lucky I didn't die. Often I'm in quite a bit of pain. Climbing stairs now is hard but I can do it. By the time I'm 60, I really don't think I can climb stairs for any reason. We don't intend on having children and if we do, it won't be more than one. I've already designed what I want for the master bedroom, walk in closet, and bathroom. But I'd like to put a smaller bedroom (big enough for one queen bed and at least one bedside table and a dresser), and a normal regular bathroom (combination tub/shower, toilet, and small vanity with a small linen closet) in the house as well with the bathroom able to be accessed by anyone that comes in the house. I don't want them tiny rooms but not large either like ours will be. The family room, and kitchen I want to be an open floor plan (without the extra floor thats nothing but ceiling and glass). We don't do alot of entertaining, and barely use the kitchen for anything other than cooking a quick meal, so I was thinking of skipping the dining room entirely and simply having a peninsula or island that we eat at or only a very small table off in a nook or something. Usually we eat in the living room watching tv anyway. Our bedroom and bathroom are more important to us than any other part of the house, but I need to decide where to put the other bathroom, and the second bedroom. I want the bedrooms to be as quiet as possible, but also understand the bathrooms need to be private. If I can avoid making an interior bathroom for the second bathroom that would be though not absolutely necessary since we won't be using it in the morning anyway. What do you think? Keep in mind that these aren't exact sizes of these rooms, and can be easily moved. I've included graphics below. If you don't think they work, let me know. I'm completely willing to change them. The first is a basic graphic to give an idea of what things look like. I'm already done the basic design of the bathroom and its alot more complicated that this little graphic but its basically right. http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx174/moiraesfate/basic.jpg?t=1284753334 This is the one with the second bath but without the second bedroom since I don't know where to put it. http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx174/moiraesfate/possible1.jpg?t=1284753397 The last one is with the second bedroom added in a possible location. http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx174/moiraesfate/possible2.jpg?t=1284753466 If any of them don't look right, please let me know. Let me know what you think anyway. This is proving harder than I thought and there's no alot of info on the net about this stuff. Oh and to add... I do have a laundry room worked in there near on the other side of the walk in closet, I just didn't include it in the drawing. I'm also trying to decide where to put the utility room but I'm thinking on the other side of the kitchen would work so we can get at the heater, the water heater, and the ac unit. I'm also debating an installed vacuum but haven't decided yet. I'm asking because I want opinions. If I don't like them, I can dismiss them but other people may think of things that I didn't. Thats the whole point of this site, isn't it? I've been looking at building because I think most architects must be on drugs now or something with bedrooms leading right off the living room or kitchen, or these insanely high ceilings that no one with a brain would want to clean and the like. In the master bath, I actually have made a walk in shower. Meaning, there is no bump as all. There are these really interesting drains you can place along the wall so that they're almost invisible to take the water. And I've added things like bars to help me stand without a problem when I get older. And a seat in the shower too. I hate to say it, but I may end up wheelchair bound when I get older. Right now is ok, I don't even need a cane, but that might change as I get older. The doc says I'm going to have horrific arthritis. We haven't decided on a location for the house yet, thats why I'm doing basic design for myself now, and we can change it as things change before we finally settle on what we want and get an architect to make final plans. I'm just making basic drawings and designs now. Buying and building it are probably 10 years away. We need to save the money for a partial payment first. Oh yes, I prefer a gently sloping ramp to steps. Steps are hard on my bad leg. I always have to hold on to the railing with a good grip and even use my arm to help lift myself slightly if I'm in a particular lot of pain that day. Some days I feel no pain at all, other days are agony. I have a metal plate near my knee and a rod that runs from my knee to my ankle. I've been told the bone is weak and it scares the living daylights out of me the idea that I might fall down because I think I might be hospitalized (dog knocked me down the stairs at an in-laws recently. Glad I didn't fall on my bad leg. As it was I got pretty banged up and I'm still hurting because of it). Oh, and one of the prohibitive reasons why I want a second bedroom and second bath is that I live in a different country from my family. I badly want them to visit but the cost is so hard on them that they can't afford it. Since I work in hotels, I know that a good portion of any trip (besides the plane tickets) is the cost of the hotel room. I'd like my family to be able to stay with me and my husband when they visit rather than being forced to go to a hotel. It would mean they can come visit more often by cutting a good $1000 or more off the cost of their trip.

This includes toilet works and interiors at Rs 10 lakh. marble flooring at Rs 10 lakh. a false ceiling and wall designs at Rs 4.40 lakh and Rs 10.15 lakh for gypsum board and wall panelling. How do you combine the square footage of two bathrooms? For my Interior Design class, I have to draw a floor plan that totals no more than 1300 square feet. Well, on my plan, I decided to change the second bedroom into an office. So, I kept the square footage the same and changed the name :) Anyway, I don't need the second bathroom now, however, so I want to "add" it to the master bathroom. On my floor plan, I would have to erase the solid wall between them. So, If both bathrooms are 6 feet, 0.96 inches by 6 feet, 0.96 inches, what is their new, combined square footage?
please help my mother is jealous of me......? I am beside myself right now. My mother is jealous of me and if I try and speak with her about it she won't list My mother is beautiful and an accomplished woman. The economy has been horrible for the last ten years and she can not find a job in human resources. She has been working at a thrift store for five years and they are very abusive to her. She has a master's degree in organizational behavior. I love to encourage her to tap into her creative side. She is good at interior design and writing. She has also been single for five years. With all of her phenomenal accomplishments she still feels inadequate and unhappy. My mother is having issues with her age. I am 29 and I have been retired for four years from the military because of an injury. I also receive a lot of attention from men. My focus happens to be college. I am enrolled as a full time student. My major is linguistics. I moved from a three bedroom apartment to my first house. I understand she would like to buy a house as well. I have dreamed of being a homeowner for a long time. I have been approached by reps from modeling agencies. My mother said I don't know why they approach you. I guess they did it for whatever reason. I was a little hurt by those comments. She also said it would take her awhile to visit me in my house. I never talk about my achievements anymore. She makes me feel like crap. I always remind my mom of her accomplishments. She has this smirk on her face when she talks about my 30th birthday. I am happy to finally reach the big 3-0. Please give me some advice on how to approach her.
