Master Bedroom Paint Color Ideas Knowledge Base

Choosing wall paint for Master Bedroom? My master bedroom color scheme so far is slightly rustic looking black furniture, with black/bronzy-gold/cream master bedding. Currently, the carpet is beige and the walls are like tan/beige - blah. So..........something has to change and painting the walls is easiest and most budget friendly. Can someone please give me some ideas on contrasting paint color for the walls - the room is a good size with vaulted ceiling.
Master Bedroom Paint Colour Help? I am having a far amount of trouble picking a master bedroom colour. I am having no problem with living room or guest bedroom but when it comes to the master bedroom I have a mind block. I have a white duvet with red pillows and throw blanket, my headboard is warm wood and my side tables are black. I have no idea where to do from here. I have thought about changing the colour scheme but I love the red accessories but I don't really want an all over red room. Please help.
Can anyone help me figure out a paint color for my master bedroom?!!? So ok, I am redecorating our master bedroom and I have purchased new furniture and everything, but I can't seem to make up my mind on a paint color for the walls that goes well with the decor! My furniture is a tabacco color (dark cherry with a black overlay) The bedding is silver with a very kindof blueish/teal color as the accents like sheets and a throw pillow, also my curtains our silver with another set that is the same blueish color. So but I can't decide on wall paint, one wall I think behind the bed will be an accent wall with the color the blueish one and I thought that the other walls might be a light tan, but I'm affraid it will look bad!!! Please help!!!!!! Any ideas would be wonderful!!!
I need color advice please :)What color should I paint my Master Bedroom/ bathroom? I can't decide what color to paint my maser bedroom and bathroom. I need a splash of color on the walls but want something that won't have to be repainted when we move out and will look good for resale. Any ideas? I put about 40 shades of purple against everything none of them looked good. Thanks for any advice:)

Well the room's 17 x 14 feet in size and it has a sliding door at the other end as a window. I want to make it look nice since it's the master bedroom on the second floor and it overlooks the outside balcony. The house has a colonial style to it, painted white and the balcony has 3 arches, tiled with orange saltillo floor that matches the tile roofing....... What color would you paint our master bedroom? I'm trying to work with a comforter set given to us by my Mother-in-Law. It's a pretty dark blue and grayish blue pattern, kind of a grand floral design. Very elegant. The bedskirt and sheets are a darkish gray blue and white. Our headboard and furniture is a medium cherry wood. I always wanted to paint our room a deep burgundy, but I think it'll look weird with the bedding. I think painting the walls white is too boring and blue just seems like it would be "blue-overkill". The hall that leads to our room is a muted "army" green. The doors and trim are white. Haven't picked window treatments yet. Suggestions??? I'm very open to ideas. Maybe even wall paper? Please give me ideas......the room is currently painted a light lime green and we can't handle much longer.......
how to decide on the color to paint a master bedroom and bath? i realize that this all boils down to personal choice but i'm stuck between two colors. First off, let me give you an idea of what i've got going on in my bedroom/bath. My bedroom furniture is all dark wood (mahogany I think), with brushed nickel hardware. All the trim is painted white. In my bathroom, the vanity and everything is white except for a wooden dresser that has an espresso finish with brushed nickel hardware. I have a few black picture frames in both rooms along with some light aqua accents. I'm trying to decide between a soft, grayish green or a warm darker tan. These are Sherwin Williams colors, one is called Mega Greige and the other is called Sea Salt. Thank you.
Master bedroom re-decorating ideas? My husband and I are going to paint our master bedroom. My colors are brown and olive green. My bed comforter is chocolate brown. What color suggestions would be neat yet different for our walls? I was thinking a plum purple. But my husband said no. Any other colors that would look good? I don't want too much green or brown so that's why I was thinking an off color to bring out.
Paint color ideas for bedroom to match grey and black bedding?!? We are working on our master bedroom and it is in the lower level of a split level home. So we have a long and narrow room (about 12 x 24). It also has a knee wall around on 2 sides. Our bed is at the far end in the middle of the 12' wall with a window and knee wall behind it and 2 windows and knee wall on one side. We just purchased new bedding (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=131750&RN=31&) and I don't know what color to do the room. I was thinking of an accent wall behind the bed and the rest of the walls a very soft grey or all the walls one color. I need help.....at a total loss and totally stuck for color and design choice!!!

I need help deciding on interior paint colors for a master bedroom and bathroom? I have a basic idea for the colors I want to paint my room, I just have to narrow them down to a specific hue/tone. I have dark wood modern furniture and beige tile (as well as light blue and white bedding which I am thinking of changing to match the over all furniture and wall color.) and I was thinking of painting my room and bathroom a variety of blues and beiges with white ceilings and white trim. I just bought white paint in which I am going to hand tint (I have experience doing so) and I want the colors to be fairly light. Could someone help me chose some colors and perhaps tell me which walls to paint what color? Links would be helpful. I cant seem to find what I am looking for on paint websites. thanks!
Want to paint my master bedroom with an accent wall. Need some ideas..anything will help.? I have a king size bed with baby blue sheets and a rich brown comforter. What paint color should i paint my bedroom? I purchased this new sage green bedding (http://www.herbergers.com/product/bed+%26+bath/comforter+sets/livingquarters+hotel+12piece+ensemble+sage.do) for my master bedroom and I now need to repaint the accent wall in my room to go with the new bedding, any idea what color I should paint? (The picture above my bed is in a tan color frame so I don't want to paint the wall just a brown color or something that will blend in with that picture) http://www.herbergers.com/product/bed+%26+bath/comforter+sets/livingquarters+hotel+12piece+ensemble+sage.do Maybe this link will work I like the idea of having the accent wall a green color and the rest of the walls a brown/tan color because I really don't like painting and the other walls in my bedroom are already painted a tan/brown color, so that would cut out some of the painting work for me! What shade of green would you suggest me doing for an accent wall? A darker or lighter shade then the bedding?

What color walls and curtains for this master bedroom? I am in the process of painting all of the furniture white and I have a pale green (sea foam) and white duvet. I like clean and fresh but still peaceful and comfy feeling. I'm afraid if I paint the walls white the furniture will just fade in to the walls but a pale green wall makes me think of a babies nursery. Maybe a pale tan or gray? What about curtains? White? Should I use a black or chocolate brown accent color? Any ideas? Thanks! *Note - We strongly dislike yellow
Need some paint color ideas for baby's room? We have what I consider a very small 3 bedroom house with two bedrooms upstairs side by side. One is our master bedroom and the other will be the baby's room. I want to re-paint both rooms in the same color to make it easier but am having a lot of difficulty deciding what color to go with. There are just so many possibilities and I get overwhelmed. The baby is going to be a boy but I don't want to paint the room blue. So far, I have been considering a light goldish color, a sage-ish green or possibly a cream color with one faint blue wall in each room. I would like something neutral but not too dull. Just reaching out there for some ideas/suggestions.

Tile in there are a tan/moss green neutral, cabinets are cherry, attached bedroom is turquoise/seafoam with sandy carpet and window shades. painting bedroom two colors...a bad idea? I was planning to paint my room (medium-sized, not a master bedroom) in two colors. A medium tan on two of the walls and olive greenish on the other two. thoughts on this? I started to think it might look weird, because it's not a large bedroom. My bedroom set is dark brown (almost black) and the light blue wall I have now contrasts too much with the dark furniture, making my room look small. Thanks for any suggestions!
How would you use shades of color on a tray ceiling to really show off it's architectual depth? I have a tray ceiling in the master bedroom of my newly constructed house. I am choosing paint colors and I am trying to decide how to paint the tray ceiling. Would you use 2 different colors, two different shades of the same color, or paint it all the same? Also if using two different colors or shades where would you use each of them? I know that I am going to paint my walls a gold hue. My bedding is a brick red color with gold as the accent color. It is a very elegant scroll design. I want the ceiling to look very elegant and tasteful as well--not tacky! Any ideas and advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
What is a good color scheme for decorating a bedroom in cool colors incorporating silhouettes into decoration? I am trying to redo my mom's bedroom for Christmas but I cannot figure out what color scheme. It is a decent sized master bedroom with plain white walls. She would like it to be romantic and a little feminine. She likes cool colors but does not want a lot of white or light colors since we have pets. She likes beige or tan, soft greens and blues (not for the walls). She does not like maroons or golds. She has a collection of antique silhouettes that she would like hung on the walls. I am having a hard time figuring out what color to paint the walls and what colors for the bedding/curtains etc... I am afraid if I do a green and tan/beige scheme it would not work with the silhouette collection. Any ideas? I have looked for country, antique schemes but everything seems too busy. Help!

I need ideas for a paint color for the bathroom...? I am 16 weeks pregnant with our first baby and, due to the small size of our home, my husband and I have decided to move our bedroom down to the basement and make a "master suite" down there (there's a full bathroom and we've converted a room into a walk-in closet). I need to paint the bathroom to eliminate the chances for mold and to make cleaning easier (the paint that's there is just primer) but I'm horrible at choosing paint colors. Our bathroom upstairs is chocolate brown (a surprisingly bold choice for me) and coordinates with a bamboo theme (bronzes, greens, and browns) and I love it. I'd like a similar bold choice, something that is pleasing to the eye and sophisticated but not jarring to look at. For some reason I'm thinking of a soothing, creamy green color (more of a browny green than a yellow green) but when I am in the paint store with all the colors in front of me, I get overwhelmed. I'd love to get the opinions of people with an eye for color. It doesn't have to be green, I'm open to suggestions. Please include the color name and brand, if you can, so I can look it up online. Thanks in advance for your help...I'm so hopeless when it comes to decorating! (Next up, I have to decide what color the nursery is going to be...argh!!)
I am stumped on what color to paint my very small 8' x 4' master bathroom...? It has 1 small window and white appliances. I know that a lighter color will make the room seem bigger but I also want to it flow with my bedroom, which is decorated with reds, browns and golds. Anyone have any ideas for me?
I am remodeling my bedroom, what colors do you suggest? We are remodeling our master bedroom and thinking about painting it brown. Any ideas for a colour for the accent wall. Or, suggestions for other colors.
How should I decorate my master bedroom? I got new furniture and a new bedspread for my master bedroom so I'm going to be redecorating! Now I need some ideas for wall treatment, flooring, curtains, and decorations. This is my new furniture: http://www.roomstogo.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=showRoom&roo_id=6933 This is my new bedspread it's Daniel Cremiux Medallion: http://www.beddingenvy.com/2009/07/daniel-cremieux-medallion-bedding.html There are currently wood floors in the room, but they're about the same color as the furniture and they're not in the best condition, so they'll have to be redone or covered. I already have some new beige carpet to lay in there, but I'm not sure if thats the way to go. We're open to anything so please be creative and include any picture of paint colors, wall paper, curtains, flooring, art, or rooms that we could take inspiration from. Thanks! L♥
What Colors To Paint Our New Home? Me and my husband just proudly bought our first home and we are looking for advice on paint colors. What is Nice and refreshing, yet will not outdate. We want to be quite colorful (not just white) without being 'Oh My' (if you know what i mean). For Master bedroom, Guest rooms, Family room, kitchen, lounge room, bathroom (Pretty Much the entire house lol). And theme ideas for 3 year olds. Was thinking of the disney film Cars but they outgrow that kind of thing pretty quick, as parents would know. All ideas, opinions are greatly appreciated!
How to choose what colors to paint the wall of my house? I am in the process of choosing the wall colors for my new home. I have choose a light green for the living room, a light blue for the master bedroom and a coral/peach color for the second bedroom but I started to think that maybe all those colors are not such a good idea. Is it ok to have all those different color walls or should they all be similar? Is there some kind of guide to painting your house that people follow?
Painting rooms, color questions...? I am preparing to pick colors for my master bedroom, master bath, and dining area. My fiance wants to paint the whole bedroom a really dark bold red...will that make the room look really really small? Also for the master bath to match i was wanting to paint it a beige color and have medium color vanity and white toliet, sink and shower. For the dining area it flows into the kitchen so i want to make it look a little seperated so i wanted to paint the main dining area wall a med. green and the rest of the walls and kitchen a light tan. What are some other ideas that i could do? I dont really know what a room with one wall a different, darker color, would do to it and i definately want the room to look more open and inviting.
can someone help me with decorating ideas for my master bedroom? I'm trying to redecorate my bedroom, but I'm on a budget so I can't spend a lot of money on a fancy bedroom set. So far I have painted my room a dark tan color, I have a mattress and spring box, and a 42" t.v. Would it look good if I bought a simple art work as a headboard or just a plain (low cost) headboard. Another question I have, Is it okay to use black furniture if I'm also using brown colors? Help.
decorating master bedroom? okay this may a hard one to figure out...as I need to ask because of the trouble I am finding myself! Our bedroom is painted a medium taupe. (light brown for those that wonder what taupe is!) The trim and molding is white. The theme is a relaxed beach feel. There is a hallway in the room that leads to the master bath and I painted that hall a light ocean blue. The blue matches the paintings in the room which are that of a beach and ocean. We are looking for a comforter set. I don't want to have too much brown (our bed set and dresser set are dark wood). I also don't want blue since there is blue in the paintings against the taupe. (you following me so far? ha....) Anyone have ideas of a good color to accent taupe(light brown) and a light blue? We can't have white comforters due to pets. Would a dark red comforter set work and brown sheets? Thanks!
Beach Cottage bedroom design ideas? My fiancee and I have just bought our house, a cape. The Master bedroom is pretty large and has pitched ceilings. I'm looking for paint and design ideas so the room is beach cottagey and comfortable to make a relaxing and romantic space. Outside of white, what paint colors should I use and how should I implement them on pitched ceilings? Should I paint the walls up to the point that they start pitching or the pitch as well? Also, should I differ the paint colors on the 2 walls that are flat from floor to ceiling? What are some other ideas that might complete a beach cottage design for a bedroom? Thanks for your help! All these are great ideas! I really REALLY appreciate them!
What are some fun things to do to bedroom walls besides stripes, color blocks, polka dots or faux finish? I was set on doing stripes in my master bedroom though I'm not sure if it's the best idea anymore as my husband doesn't seem too thrilled about it. He doesn't want polka dots which is fine and I hate faux finish and think its so over-done. What are some other unique, fun ways to paint my master bedroom? If you have links or know specific web sites, I would greatly appreciate it. Please and thank you! My ceilings are high and slanted so hanging fabric may be an issue but I will consider it.
What color to paint my room? Ok so I am a teenage girl who goes through room colors as fast as I blink. Right now, my room is light pink, with a white strip and a design, and under that is brown. I have the master bedroom in my house, so my room is pretty big and requires alot of paint. Some colors I had in mind were: http://twitpic.com/61ap2t but I'm afraid I wont like them throughout time. I have had the pink and brown since I was 10, and my choice of colors has changed alottttt ! The colors I posted above are just some ideas, but I'm really into green and other colors as well. Please be specific. What are the best colors for a room? Worst colors? Thanks(;
painting ideas for my bedroom...? its a master bedroom with white floor. my furniture is made of rubberwood so its kind of yellowish.. pls help me decide the colour of paint to be used..it would be very helpful if u could provide me with some beautiful bedroom pics..
My fiance and I can't decide on colours for our bedroom, which colours would be better in a master bedroom? We're moving in together and we can not agree on colours for the master bedroom. I would like white and pale blue. White to open it up a little more and blue accents. He wants one black wall and the rest a pale yellow. I think the yellow and black will make the room seem smaller. The bedroom is the only room we can't agree on. We've already painted the spare room a pale beige. Any ideas how we can agree on colours?
Help with colours and the vibe they give off? I've just recently bought a house and trying to make it reflect my personality through colours and such. Right now I'm focusing on the master bedroom. Which colours are best for soothing the mind, but at the same time create warmth and romance? I'd also like to change my bedding. Any idea's that will work well with the paint colour you've chosen? Thanks!
Is it crazy to paint every room a different color? We're closing on our new house next week and we need to paint. I had different colors in mind for every room but my husband says that would make the house look like a crayola box! I think his idea is even more strange - he wants the whole house to be tan (which I could probably live with) with the exception of the master bedroom which he wants to paint blue. I think it's more weird to have one different color than all different colors. Thoughts? We were going to do the 'common areas' (hall, living room, entry, etc.) all a khaki color anyway. The dining and kitchen would be the same. But the bedrooms and baths different. I just don't want that 'rental' feel in the house where everything is the color of blah to suit everyone's tastes.
what color should I paint the walls....??? My fiance' and I are building a new house. I am having trouble picking out the colors for the rooms. I don't even know where to begin. I do have to bedrooms picked out though we have stained trim, not white, so I need to pick colors that goes well with the stained trim. Does anyone have and good ideas? what color should I paint my... 2 1/2 bathroom, one is the master bath kitchen dining room
remodel master bedroom? hello! my husband and i rent a house, it's a small rather older house probably built in the early 70's. the master bedroom is small, the sink is kind of in the room.. where the shower and toilet have their own separate room. i always said i didn't want to sink money into this house, but i'm just tired of living the way we are. i've done some minor adjustments, i put some beautiful dark red curtains up and that made it more cozy. i'm looking for a vintage/romantic/cozy room... what color should i paint the walls? ideas for painting/pictures in the room?? thank you!
What colors would go good in a lavender bedroom? I live in a rental and the master bedroom is lavender. We can't paint it so I need ideas on what colors would look good without making it look girly (me & my husband will share the room)
Color choices to go with dark brown crown molding? Moving into 1st house July 1st. 3700 sq feet with very nice crown molding throughout entire house and same color baseboards that match. Were painting the main part of the downstairs in a light cream color almond that I think will go well. However I would like to paint the master bedroom and living area a different color. I'd rather not pay to have all that molding painted. Any ideas on room colors that would actually go with dark brown moldings. I'm having trouble.... Floors are either light wood or cream carpet... thx
Decorating a master bedroom on a budget? I really need to do something with the master. Its not huge, but I would say it's normal sized...I live in a townhome..that is about 1300 sq feet, so the room is okay. It's vaulted ceilings though, so I do not know how I should paint it. I don't have a bedroom set yet, and I plan on buying one within the next year, but I could do without it for now. Right now its purple..my bedspread, my my side tables have purple tableclothes on them. My downstairs is painted a light coffee/sandy brown color, and it used to have blue accessories, but Im pretty sure Im changing it to red. I like neutral colors with spurts of color. I like the comfy atmosphere, nothing that is TOO much. Any tips or ideas? I like antiques also. Pictures would be helpful.
What color should i paint my room?? (15 yr. old grl)? Im FINALLY getting my own room.. & my moms gonna give me the master bedroom so ill have plenty of space.. but what color should i paint it? Help decorating a master bedroom...? I have a brand new beautiful deep red comforter and matchng curtains in our master bedroom... It has gold flowers with green leaves (maybe olive color) but the leaves are drowned out by the gold in the deign and with the neutral brownish/beigeish wall. It feels too yellow/gold. I want the beauty of the green to come out without over powering the rich color of the red... any ideas for what to do with the walls? I need to paint them, but can't decide on a color/shade. Should I go with two tone? I really want the green to come alive... any ideas? Thank you!

Would it look okay combining two different color dressers in a bedroom? I purchased a dark stained, simple, contemporary, sort of Shaker style large dresser with mirror and two end tables for my master bedroom. I have my "Ethan Allen" childhood vertical dresser plus another second hand beautiful, well made vertical chest of drawers and lastly my son's baby dresser that I couldn't sell, all in the room also. I know it sounds cluttered, but it's a big room and all those dressers don't make it look that way, besides I need the storage for all my clothers and stuff. I'm going to finally paint and decorate the room and I want to paint the old dressers to match the stain of the new dresser and end tables. I had and idea....what if I paint two of the old dressers, I different color something to contrast all the dark dressers? Something complimentary. I'm thinking of painting the walls a little darker than Terracotta, like a redish/brown...could I paint two of the old dressers in a light orange/terracotta or just paint the 3 old dressers a dark brown to match the new furniture. Just trying to be creative or maybe NOT.
What color curtains go well in a room with beige and dark red walls? Im having a hard time picking the right color curtains. Its to be hang up in the master bedroom. The room is small and rectangular. Both the narrow sides are painted dark red and the other (long) sides are beige. The furniture is all black. Black bed, black dresser...etc. The curtain is to hang on the beige sided wall. Any ideas what color curtains i should get? Appreciate your help!
I need help creating a "modern" victorian Master bedroom feel...? I just redid my entire master bedroom and something is not right... My husband and I bought a gorgeous burgandy comforter with matchng curtains, all of which have big gold flowers on them with olive/ sage green leaves. Our furniture is a deep walnut color and I just painted the walls to match the leaves. My husband LOVES it... me not so much... it needs something. It looks like a room in a little old lady's victorian home, pretty... just too grandmaish for me. I feel like something could jazz it up a bit and make it feel a little more modern, but not sure what. I prefer the less is more concept, I can't stand clutter or business. Throw in the fact that I am very practical and this room is small and has a king size bed, but we're not changing it or the comforter set. The hardware is gold and two pictures that we have up and for sentimental reason will not come down are both framed in antique gold... I know... it doesn't help matters. So far one wall is bare. Any ideas? P.S. the trim around the doors, floorboard, and closet itself is white. I like the black idea... would it clash?
How do I decorate a tan and brown bedroom? I have recently moved into a new place. The walls are all painted a very neutral tan color. The master bedroom is the same color, with a chocolate brown feature wall. I have birch bedroom furniture. The baseboards all all white, and the carpet is a tan color as well. I like the neutral colors but I need some ideas for my curtains, bed linens, and other accents. I want something to liven up the neutral colors but I don't know how much or how little of an accent color to add, or which color would look best with the browns and tans.
Moving into new place tips/ideas ? I just moved and I was ok to paint my place as long is back to normal when I move out in the future..What is good colors and themes if I want a forrest living room? Girls room theme dora/princess colors? Bathroom retro colors? and master bedroom (mine) godess theme colors? I want to know some colors for each or just half and some links would be picked as best answer. thanks for your time and my decoration makeover crisis.
Need Ideas on how to redecorate my room? So I'm a teenage girl and over this summer, I'm starting to clean my room and my mom said I could redecorate since a good chunk of my room was previously over run with crap. So, I need ideas. I'm anything but a girly girl, but not exactly a tomboy. I like drawing, painting, writing and reading. Oh and music, mostly rock, punk and alternative. My favorite colors are block, silver and dark blue. Any ideas? It's a pretty big room, considered the master bedroom and I have it all to myself. Thanks in advance. The house I live in belongs to my grandfather and I don't think he'd let my take of the 100-year-old wallpaper and paint on the walls. I'd love to be able to paint a mural but I think my grandfather would only budge enough to let me get new wallpaper.

Bedroom (doubling as a nursery) paint color ideas? This is the bedding I ordered (full set): http://www.sears.ca/product/whole-home-md-stellar-24-piece-room-in-a-bag/9674995S?ptag=1 -I want to paint the room 2 different colors; no fancy designs or anything. Two solid colors. One lighter color for the window frame, door frames, base boards & ceiling. A darker one for the walls. I plan on painting the wall by the baby's crib the lighter color though. -all the walls in the room are stippled -it's rectangular -the ceiling fan/light is black -the longer walls are on the left & right sides -there is one window, on the back wall on the left side -the floor is light laminate -my bed will be on the left side of the room beneath the window -the baby's crib will be on the right side of the room -it's a master bedroom -no one else is sharing it with me & the baby * PLEASE KEEP IN MIND WHAT THE BEDDING LOOKS LIKE. The walls have to look good with the bedding.... Like I don't think that yellow, for example, would go with it. I don't have any accessories yet; I'll get some to match after the room's done being painted.
NEED IDEAS! Painting home? We are moving into a new place and I have been told I can paint murals for the rooms (will be given a screen the size of a wall for 2 of the rooms). My son is into Star Wars and comic book characters like Spider-Man. I don't want just one or the other, I would like to do one for him with a mix of Star Wars and comic characters....anyone have any Ideas for a good set up with that? THis one will be in his play room On the other one, which will be in his bed room, I would like to do something that has NOTHING to do with the above...like jungle or something...no sports. This is the one I am really at a loss for, he is so into Star Wars, but I wanted something else entirely for his room seeing how I am doing one for the playroom already. Any Ideas for creative decoration/painting in the master bedroom and living room are welcome though not as needed. (Fav color is RED/Black). We can pretty much do whatever we want paint wise. Just Kids...thank you but I meant red/black for the master bed room! Sorry I didn't clearify!
Celestial sun and moon bedroom idea's? Any pictures or ideas would be appreciated..I want to redo our master bedroom with the sun and moon theme. I found the base color I want which is dark blue swaude paint. Anyother murals or furniture themes would help me. Real Answers Only please. Thank you
decorating a gray-green bedroom? We just moved in to an apartment with a large master bedroom that is painted gray-green (and we can't repaint). Big, huge, gray-green walls and a gray-green carpet. I know it's a peaceful color, but I love reds/oranges - I'm a warm color person. I would like to find ways to brighten it up. Any thoughts/links to decorating ideas?
How should I decorate my Master Bedroom?? Ok, so I just moved into a condo with my longtime beau and he said he was going to leave the decorating, painting, and furnishing up to me (he's so sweet). So, everything looks great so far. The livingroom is a creamy off white color, same as the kitchen and the hallway. My son's bedroom is blue. The bathroom is white. When it came to our bedroom, I said I wanted an exotic theme. Island decor, plants, etc. The carpet is a sandy color with specs of blue, red, green, and yellow. I painted the walls green, and it is a mighty cactus green. The room is rather large and has white trim. He asked if I was sure I knew what I was doing, and I said, "yes, of course!' Well, I'm second guessing my idea...so do you have any??? We will be buying the furniture accordingly...but I refuse to repaint. HELP!
What color paints should I use in my new house? We just purchased our first home and I need help with colors. The living room furniture is a mocha brown color and we use a khaki for that room but it's the dining room, kid's room, master bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom I need help with, so almost the whole house. I want to do an orange for the kitchen, a red or dark blue for the dining room which has wood floors and wainscotting halfway up which I would do white, I think. For the bedroom I found a comforter set with tans, browns and aqua blue so I wanted to do a khaki color there too, which is off the kitchen so it will flow. The bathroom I would do white so I can change the shower curtain etc, when I get bored with it. But what about the kids room, my stepson is 10, and he's not sure either. I guess I just need suggestions on all the rooms and thoughts on my ideas so far.
Should I use primer with light colors? I bought a new house with off-white (slightly yellowish) walls. We are now planning to paint the house in stages with very light colors (choosing from the lightest three shades on those color bar samplers that they have for free at Home Depot). My first project is the master bedroom/bathroom with the lightest shade of blue on the sampler card. I have no idea what kind of paint was used by the builder, but I know that we have bought two gallons of a "super washable" flat paint base with the color already mixed. Do I need primer for this project or for the other projects with one or two shades darker in green, purple, and red? As a side question: The paint can says to mix 1 (or 1/2?) pint of water per gallon and to wet the roller before dipping it in the paint. Did the store already added the water when they mixed the colors, or do I need to do that in addition to what the store did to make the paint? Does the roller need water before every paint dip? Does the brush need water? I think that I'm starting to understand better about the purpose of primer, but I still have a question about reds. Some people seem to think that red is a special color requiring primer. I doubt quite understand if it has to do with painting over red with another color (similar shades), painting red over another color (similar shades), or painting different shades or kinds of reds on top of each other. Are reds special, and if so, why?
Redecorating Master Bed & Bathroom HELP !!!!!!!!? Ok, here's the situation. I am going to redecorate my master Bedroom & Bathroom. The rooms are open to one another, but Small. My bedroom carpet is a rose mauve color as well as my bath. I have a Heart Shaped Tub, which is also a mauve marble color. And my vanity and cabinets and trim are all dark oak. The bathroom has carpet also, which were going to change to a rock looking linoleum, and we are putting rock or fake rock around the bottom of the tub also. I have a lot of Mirrors im my bathroom as well. I was thinking of painting the bathroom and bedroom like an off white almost vanilla color, to open it up some. My bedroom furniture is BIG /Bulky, and it is a Dark Cherry color. My husband and I are wanting to spice it up a little, but were not sure what to do. I thought some Burgundy and Gold would look good, but Im not sure. We are wanting a theme to our room, but what exotic theme goes with mauve??? I thought a Geisha look, but he didn't like that. And we both want something different, not girlie or manly but just something neutral. Could you guys give us some ideas... Something that goes with mauve, but isn't too girlie or too manly Please HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP
What kind and color window treatments should we use? I need help deciding what kind and color window treatments to use in our master bedroom. Here is a picture (done in Paint) of what the rest of the bedroom looks like... its turning out to be some what french country. Any idea what color/kind of window treatment to use? The window is the white box and currently only has white mini blinds. I was thinking a darker blue? What do you think? Pictures or links will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! http://www.flickr.com/photos/37121490@N03/?saved=1 The walls are standard apartment putty white... i wish they were green!
I need paint idea for my bathroom...? Now that my master bedroom is figured out, I need a color or colors for my bathroom. I was thinking yellow with blue stripes, but the hubby doesn't seem really thrilled and I'm not either after doing a sample. The flooring is almost white, the ceiling will stay white, and the counter tops are close to white. What would you suggest as good colors for a bathroom? It can't be dark since there's only one small window in there and a medium sized sky light. Please and thank you! I should say that I have used brown and cream colored paint in other areas of my house and would like something different in my bathroom. At the same time, I'd like something nice and cheery in there too.
Hmm a Black bedroom? Hello all hope your all well. Hmm i am planning to redecorate my bedroom soon. My room is the master bedroom its spacious and has a big window. Do you think painting my walls black will work? I toyed with the idea painting the walls white with matching floor curtains and furnishing but i am a clumsy cow and my room wouldn't last a week. So what about black? Is space and light the only factors i need 2 consider when going for a drastic color change. Has anyone tried it? If not black tell me what you did try i really want a big change so inspire me.
Please help me with decorating ideas? We moved into a new house (2 story) in March. My son's room is decorated Atlanta Braves (top wall tan, bottom wall blue with a red board) and my daughter's room is decorated My Little Pony (top wall tan, bottom wall light pink with a dark pink stripe on top of it and pony names stenciled along that top stripe). The rest of the house is painted a light tan. I would like to decorate the master bedroom next. The master bedroom is about 15X18 with a big window to the south and two small windows facing west. The south wall (this is also where the door is) has a niche/sitting area. It only goes back about three feet. I was thinking of putting a chair and small side table there, but not sure what color to get the chair. Most of my bedding is blue stripe or plaid. I was thinking about hanging blue curtains and painting the wall with the niche blue and getting a blue chair. But that seems boring. Any other suggestions?
Need help decorating!? My husband and I just bought our first house and are in the middle of remodeling it. I have NO decorating sense. I wish I did, I always watch HGtv and love what they do. I was hoping someone could tell me what they think are good paint colors for the following rooms: There are five bedrooms: master, baby's (we dont have one yet so I was thinking like yellow or green?), guest 1 and 2 and my hubby's office. The living room, kitchen, and bonus family room. We're 22 (well technically I'll be 23 next week :) lol) so I'd like something modern. Thanks so much!!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! oh yeah, the kitchen is kind of small. What colors make a room look bigger. I need new cabinets, counter tops and appliances! I have no idea what colors to pick!!!
Kitchen & Family room paint? hi everybody we are planning on painting our family room & kitchen. in kitchen we have cinnamon cherry cabinets, brown tiles & brownish back splash. corian counter top has black, brown, grey & white in it but black is the dominant color. we are thinking we may need a light color as everything else is dark. we'll appreciate if you can throw some ideas around. so far we're leaning a little toward light brown in kitchen & family room, dark brown or maroonish on family room niche and on arches that lead to master bed & 2nd bedroom. you can see the pictures at http://community.webshots.com/album/561422598QctESi i was initially thinking about green as i like brown & green combination. our exterior is green and doors are dark brown. but i'm not sure if green will go with cinnamon cherry. appliances are stainless steel. appreciate your help guys, thank you so much for all your help. catherine, the colors you suggested are very similar to what we had in our mind. let me know what you all think about this: option 1: kahlua & cream in kitchen, arizona tan in family room and earthly russett on the arch walls that lead to master bed & 2nd bed and on the family room niche. option 2: dump kahlua & cream all together and paint family & kitchen with arizona tan yowza, i like the first link to hgtv that you sent. dawnb, if you get a chance, can you pls suggest me a shade of green from one of these color web sites ? we tried putting few swatches but didn't work.
India inspired rooms? I'd like my bedroom, connected master bath, and the living room to be indian inspired. I was hoping that I could work with this big blue couch we already [unfortunately] own. The chair, I CAN move to another room, or maybe some other solution?? And without the people pillows of course. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t149/jessjay87/couches.jpg I'd really like to stay away from anything too cheesy. And I like the idea of using a bunch of rich colors and fabrics. But I cant paint the walls. New house, creamy beige walls. Maybe I can drape with fabric? I'm open to any creative ideas for window treatments, walls, couches, floor coverings, art, shelving, creative ways to store the tv, cheap alternatives, etcetera. http://bp2.blogger.com/_Kv3qhodhcbE/R7miz5HgzsI/AAAAAAAAClI/maqJBIIa-Zk/s1600-h/page_ju_inside_africa_vol_1_01_0706041620_id_29280.jpg http://bp3.blogger.com/_Kv3qhodhcbE/Rw-3joHgleI/AAAAAAAAB-I/-_QppmTpjtw/s1600-h/mediterranean+Style.JPG
What is the lesson of this story? David Pradarelli Assalam-aleikum wa rahmatullah! I came to Islam pretty much on my own. I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but I always had a deep fascination with the spiritualities of other cultures. My Journey started when I desired to have a relationship with my creator. I wanted to find my spirituality, and not the one I was born with. I spent some time in the Catholic religious order known as the Franciscans. I had many friends and I enjoyed prayer times, but it just seemed to relaxed in its faith, and there was, in my opinion, too much arrogance and hypocrisy. When I had returned back from the order into secular living again, I once again was searching for my way to reach God (Allah). One night I was watching the news on television, and of course they were continuing their one-sided half-truth reports on Muslims (always in a negative light instead of balancing it by showing the positive side as well) with images of violence and terrorism. I decided long ago that the news media has no morals whatsoever and will trash anyone for that "juicy story", and I pretty much refused to believe anything they said. I decided to research Islam for myself and draw my own conclusions. What I found paled all the negative images that the satanic media spewed forth. I found a religion deep in love and spiritual truth, and constant God-mindfullness. What may be fanatacism to one person may be devotion to another. I picked up a small paperback Qur'an and began devouring everything I could. It opened my eyes to the wonder and mercy of ALLAH, and I found the fascination growing every day...it was all I could think about. No other religion including Catholicism impacted me in such a powerful way...I actually found myself in God-awareness 24 hours a day 7 days a week...each time I went to my five daily prayers, I went with anticipation...finally! What I have been searching for all of my life. I finally got enough courage to go to a mosque and profess the Shahadah before my Muslm brothers and sisters. I now am a practicing Muslim and I thank ALLAH for leading me to this place: Ashhahdu anna la ilaha ilallah wa Muhammadur rasul ALLAH! This means: "I believe in the oneness and totalness of ALLAH and that Muhammad(peace and blessings be upon him)is the chosen prophet of ALLAH." I now also accept Jesus as no longer equal with ALLAH, but sent as Muhammad was sent ...to bring all of mankind to submission to the will of ALLAH! May all of mankind find the light and truth of ALLAH. Ibrahim Karlsson I was born in an ordinary , non-religious Swedish home, but with a very loving relationship to each other. I had lived my life 25 years without really thinking about the existence of God or anything spiritual what-so-ever; I was the role model of the materialistic man. Or was I? I recall a short story I wrote in 7th grade, something about my future life, where I portray myself as a successful games programmer (I hadn't yet even touched a computer) and living with a Muslim wife!! OK, at that time Muslim to me meant dressing in long clothes and wearing a scarf, but I have no idea where those thoughts came from. Later, in high school, I remember spending much time in the school-library (being a bookworm) and at one time I picked up a translated Qur'an and read some passages from it. I don't remember exactly what I read, but I do remember finding that what it said made sense and was logical to me. Still, I was not at all religious, I couldn't fit God in my universe, and I had no need of any god. I mean, we have Newton to explain how the universe works, right? Time passed, I graduated and started working. Earned some money and moved to my own apartment, and found a wonderful tool in the PC. I became a passionate amateur photographer, and enrolled in activities around that. At one time I was documenting a marketplace, taking snapshots from a distance with my telelens when an angry looking immigrant came over and explained that he would make sure I wasn't going to take any more pictures of his mum and sisters. Strange people those Muslims... More things related to Islam happened that I can't explain why I did what I did. I can't recall the reason I called the "Islamic information organisation" in Sweden, ordering a subscription to their newsletter, buying Yosuf Ali's Qur'an and a very good book on Islam called Islam - our faith. I just did! I read almost all of the Qur'an, and found it to be both beautiful and logical, but still, God had no place in my heart. One year later, whilst out on a patch of land called "pretty island" (it really is) taking autumn-color pictures, I was overwhelmed by a fantastic feeling. I felt as if I were a tiny piece of something greater, a tooth on a gear in God's great gearbox called the universe. It was wonderful! I had never ever felt like this before, totally relaxed, yet bursting with energy, and above all, total awareness of god wherever I turned my eyes. I don't know how long I stayed in this ecstatic state, but eventually it ended and I drove home, seemingly unaffected, but what I had experienced left uneraseable marks in my mind. At this time Microsoft brought Windows-95 to the market with the biggest marketing blitz known to the computer industry. Part of the package was the on-line service The Microsoft Network. And keen to know what is was I got myself an account on the MSN. I soon found that the Islam BBS were the most interesting part of the MSN, and that's where I found Shahida. Shahida is a American woman, who like me has converted to Islam. Our chemistry worked right away, and she became the best pen-friend I have ever had. Our e-mail correspondence will go down in history: the fact that my mailbox grew to something like 3 megabytes over the first 6 months tells its own tale. She and I discussed a lot about Islam and faith in god in general, and what she wrote made sense to me. Shahida had an angels patience with my slow thinking and my silly questions, but she never gave up the hope in me. Just listen to your heart and you'll find the truth she said. And I found the truth in myself sooner than I'd expected. On the way home from work, in the bus with most of the people around me asleep, and myself adoring the sunset, painting the beautifully dispersed clouds with pink and orange colours, all the parts came together, how God can rule our life, yet we're not robots. How I could depend on physics and chemistry and still believe and see Gods work. It was wonderful, a few minutes of total understanding and peace. I so long for a moment like this to happen again! And it did, one morning I woke up, clear as a bell, and the first thought that ran through my brain was how grateful to God I were that he made me wake up to another day full of opportunities. It was so natural, like I had been doing every day of my life! After these experiences I couldn't no longer deny God's existence. But after 25 years of denying God it was no easy task to admit his existence and accept faith. But good things kept happening to me, I spent some time in the US, and at this time I started praying, testing and feeling, learning to focus on God and to listen to what my heart said. It all ended in a nice weekend in New York, of which I had worried a lot, but it turned out to be a success, most of all, I finally got to meet Shahida! At this point there was no return, I just didn't know it yet. But God kept leading me, I read some more, and finally got the courage to call the nearest Mosque and ask for a meeting with some Muslims. With trembling legs I drove to the mosque, which I had passed many times before, but never dared to stop and visit. I met the nicest people there, and I was given some more reading material, and made plans to come and visit the brothers in their home. What they said, and the answers they gave all made sense. Islam became a major part of my life, I started praying regularly, and I went to my first Jumma prayer. It was wonderful, I sneaked in, and sat in the back, not understanding a word the imam was saying, but still enjoying the service. After the khutba we all came together forming lines, and made the two 'rakaas'. It was yet one of the wonderful experiences I have had on my journey to Islam. The sincerity of 200 men fully devoted to just one thing, to praise God, felt great! Slowly my mind started to agree with my heart, I started to picture myself as a Muslim, but could I really convert to Islam? I had left the Swedish state-church earlier, just in case, but to pray 5 times a day? to stop eating pork? Could I really do that? And what about my family and friends? I recalled what Br. Omar told me, how his family tried to get him admitted to an asylum when he converted. Could I really do this? By this time the Internet wave had swept my country, and I too had hooked up with the infobahn. And "out there" were tons of information about Islam. I think I collected just about every web page with the word Islam anywhere in the text, and learned a lot. But what really made a change was a text I found in Great Britain, a story of a newly converted woman with feelings exactly like mine. 12 hours is the name of the text. When I had read that story, and wept the tears out of my eyes I realized that there were no turning back anymore, I couldn't resist Islam any longer. Summer vacation started, and I had made my mind up. I had to become a Muslim! But after all, the start of the summer had been very cold, and if my first week without work was different, I wouldn't lose a day of sunshine by not being on the beach. On the TV the weatherman painted a big sun right on top of my part of the country. OK then, some other day... The next morning; a steel grey sky, with ice-cold gusts of wind outside my bedroom window. It was like God had decided my time was up, I could wait no longer. I had the required bath, and dressed in clean clothes, jumped in my car and drove the 1 hour drive to the mosque. In the Mosque I approached the brothers with my wish, and after dhuhr prayer the Imam and some brothers witnessed me say the Shahada. Alhamdulillah! And to my great relief all my family and friends have taken my conversion very well, they have all accepted it, I won't say they were thrilled, but absolutely no hard feelings. They can't understand all the things I do. Like praying 5 times a day on specific times, or not eating pork meat. They think this is strange foreign customs that will die out with time, but I'll prove them wrong. InshaAllah! Abd al-Hayy Moore I became a Muslim when it seemed I had already accepted Islam in my bones, as if beyond choice, and I only had to make a leap to embrace it formally. Outwardly I was content; inwardly I was coasting. My three-year-old theatre company was disbanded after a hilariously chaotic production for a Tim Leary Benefit at the Family Dog in San Francisco, circa '68 -- naturally the orange juice everyone had passed around was spiked, so that chorus members were doing the final scene in the first ten minutes -- and for six months I had been methodically typing out poetry manuscripts in my attic in Berkeley preparatory to a big publishing peak. I considered myself a Zen Buddhist. But I was other things as well. My normal routine was to get up, sit zazen, smoke a joint, do half an hour of yoga, then read the "Mathnawi" of Rumi, the long mystical poem of that great Persian Sufi of the thirteenth century. Then I met the man who was to be my guide to our teacher in Morocco, Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib, may Allah be pleased with him. At first the meeting was simply remarkable, and my guide simply a remarkable man. But soon our encounter was to become extraordinary, leading to a revolution in my life from which I have never recovered and never hope to. The man looked like an eccentric Englishman. He too had only recently come out of the English version of the Hippie Wave. He was older, refined in his manners, spectacularly witty and intellectual, but of that kind prevalent then who had hobnobbed with the Beatles and knew the Tantric Art collection of Brian Jones firsthand. He had been on all the classic drug quests -- peyote in the Yucatan, mescaline with Laura Huxley -- but with the kif quest in Morocco he had stumbled on Islam and then the Sufis, and the game was up. A profound change had taken place in his life that went far beyond the psychedelic experience. For the three days following our meeting, two other Americans and I listened in awe as this magnificent storyteller unfolded the picture of Islam, of the perfection of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, of the Sufis of Morocco, and of the 100-year-old plus Shaykh, sitting under a great fig tree in a garden with his disciples singing praises of Allah. It was everything I'd always dreamed of. It was poetry come alive. It was the visionary experience made part of daily life, with the Prophet a perfectly balanced master of wisdom and simplicity, an historically accessible Buddha, with a mixture of the earthiness of Moses, the otherworldliness of Jesus, and a light all his own. The prophetic knowledge our guide talked about was a kind of spiritual existentialism. It was a matter of how you enter a room, which foot you entered with, that you sipped water but gulped milk, that you said, "Bismillah" (In the Name of Allah) before eating or drinking, and "Al-hamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) afterwards, and so on.
