Master Bedroom Suite Plans Knowledge Base

Would it be worth it to convert existing bedroom space to master suite? My husband and I are looking into buying a 100 year old farmhouse. The house is a 3 bed/1 bath. Like all houses built in the early 1900s this one obviously did not originally have indoor plumbing, so when it was added the owners at that time took the obviously easier route and added it to the main floor at the bottom of the stairs. At some point someone also converted two of the bedrooms upstairs into one large master (it went from a 4 to 3 bed at that time). If we buy the house we plan to turn part of the mudroom on the other side of the house into a full bath, but the question remains if it makes sense to also add a bathroom to the oversize master bedroom. If we do so it will be the only bathroom on the floor, but will obviously be inaccessible to the other two bedrooms. There is no other reasonable configuration for adding a bedroom on the second floor. There is no other reasonable configuration because the stairs are in the way of where the bathroom door would have to go if it is not a part of a master suite and otherwise there is no existing plumbing on the other side of the house. The only other options that we could come up with would be to move the stairs, add space to the existing floorplan or convert an entire 1/2 of the master into a bathroom (effectively making it not a master at all, but rather a third bedroom). So I suppose it's not unreasonable so much as it is just out of our budget. We will likely do most of the work ourselves with the help of our dads (contractor from out of state and carpenter) a plumber and an electrician.
Choosing paint for restful master suite? We are currently in the process of buying a new (our first) home. As we are in a rental now & have always been in apartments prior to this rental house, I really want to make this new home our own. In the master bedroom, I plan on using grasscloth as an accent wall on the wall behind the bed but I am stumped on paint color for the remaining walls.(I hate white walls...Ive been surrounded by them for way too long now) Our style is a comfortable modern & we want every room to reflect a calming peaceful spa-like atmosphere. I know that chocolate(furniture) tan, greens, & whites will be the accents but I am stuck on whether to use a pale green or a light bluish gray tint on the walls. the grasscloth http://www.seabrookwallpaper.com/products/default.aspx?t=2&styleID=13&subjectID=182&patternID=6647&search= I would choose a blue similar to this http://ratemyspace.hgtv.com/SNC/ViewItem.aspx?pguid=6db6be3f-1720-4ba3-a081-999042c09b6b&itemguid=c0647da6-eb29-44b0-8246-36af9c58961e sorry i ran out of room. the green would be similar to this http://ratemyspace.hgtv.com/SNC/ViewItem.aspx?pguid=6db6be3f-1720-4ba3-a081-999042c09b6b&itemguid=b634d90f-379d-46d7-80c4-426a29a7d8f0 And the bedding would be this, minus the duvet in which case will be all white with the sheets slightly exposed like in the photo & a green coverlet at the bottom http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=274916&CategoryID=17626&LinkType=EverGreen
master bedroom on front of house? We are thinking about remodeling, and have had a designer come up with plans. All of her suggestions include moving the master bedroom to the downstairs front of the house. She does not think this is uncommon. What do you think? By the way, we have thought about the plans, and from a cost standpoint, this is probably the only way to get the master suite that we are looking for, without being too expensive. Our other option is to move, but we would love to stay if possible. so to give details on my current house layout. it's a 1.5 story cape cod. 3 bedrooms upstairs (including master). On first floor there's a den and living room on the front of the house, with guest bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and dining room across the back of the house. The new plan calls for turning den and bedroom downstairs into master suite, making the kitchen bigger and more usable, and adding a living room onto the back of the house. Thanks for everyone's opinion.
The woman I love insists on his and hers facing toilet bowls so we can spend more time together. What to do? The woman I love insists on his and hers facing toilet bowls so we can spend more time together. What to do? The darling woman I love and I are building a new home, the home of our dreams. I have always wanted a master bedroom suite, complete with a luxurious bathroom. In the plans, there are his and hers sinks, a jacuzzi garden tub, and a huge shower, with many shower heads to spray you all over at once. The commode (toilet bowl) will be separated, which is a plus. But, she wants two commodes, in there together, facing each other, so we can talk and spend even more time together. Ok, I love the woman, but I think expelling bodily functions together may be a little over the top for me. What do you think?
What is the best way to add room to my house? I bought a house to fix up and sell, but it is very small. I was wondering what the best approach is to add room and add value to it. It has 2 medium size bedrooms, a fairly large attic that seems to have been made into a bedroom since there are bookshelves installed in the walls. There is also an unfinished basement. There is also an odd "bedroom" next to the other two. I believe it was a nursey as it had disney wallpaper. It is way too small to be a normal bedroom and possibly too small for a decent sized desk to make it into an office. What is my best option here? Take out the walls of the tiny bedroom and add space to the bathroom? Take out the wall to the small bedroom and make a master suite with a private bath? Make it a huge walk-in closet for the master suite? What would give me more cash? And does adding a bedroom in the attic really count as a 3rd bedroom? Would an open floor-plan downstairs create the illusion of more space?
Advice needed for a house remodel? I am buying a cape cod style home with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. I know I am going to need a second bathroom at some point but I am not sure where to put it. Right now my two options are: 1. Turn the attic into a master suite and leave the downstairs bedrooms as they are. 2. Turn the attic into 2 bedrooms and turn 2 of the bedrooms downstairs into the master suite. The downside of plan 1. is I am not sure how parents feel about having their children's rooms downstairs from them for fear of break-in's and noise level in the living room after the kids go to sleep. The downside of plan 2. is we would be taking 2 really large original bedrooms and making them one great master suite but the 2 rooms we would put in the attic would be kind of small and awkward (because of the slanted ceiling). They would be safe though, with good size fire escape windows. PLEASE help with this decision and any input would be greatly appreciated. I want to be able to sell this house quickly if need be, and I don't want the placement of the master bedroom to mess that up. I don't have kids so I am especially looking for parents views on the remodel.
Best way to resolve a disagreement over houseguests? My spouse is more accommodating to guests (family or friends), I am not. I think people should call in advance of visiting and our home should be cleaned up before they arrive. I also think guests should respect our privacy and not be upset if we keep the master bedroom suite off-limits to others. If guests are visiting from out-of-town and will need assistance from the airport, tour help, and a guest room, we need plenty of time to prepare for them and the plans should be as thorough as possible in order to change our schedules where possible. My spouse thinks otherwise. Thanks everyone. He told me I was being too rigid and odd. It's nice to know I'm in a boat with a lot of other people.
House plan bed and bath size? Is a master suite bedroom with a size of 18 feet by 16 feet noticeably large? Is a master bath of 10 feet by 11 feet big enough to fit a corner jacuzzi, shower, and double sink?
When to break the three bedroom rule? I have a 150 year old 1400 sq. ft. three bedroom house. It is 1 1/2 stories tall. In the one story section of the house is a 3/4 bath, kitchen, formal dinning room and small bonus room we want to put a full bath in. In the two story section of the house is, on the main floor, the living room and a bedroom, and on the second two more bedrooms including the master. My question is, with this not being a large home and two bedrooms being upstairs where you have to stumble through a hall and down the steps for a midnight potty break, can I break the three bedroom (for resale value) rule and turn the upstairs into a master suite? I don't want to change the floor plan to make two small bedrooms with a bathroom upstairs, nor does the floor plan on the main level allow for reshuffeling of rooms. It's either two bedrooms upstairs without a toilet or one bedroom with enough room for a full bath. Opinions on breaking the three bedroom resale rule?
Will taking out an en suite shower room devalue our house? I've just bought a house with the girlfriend and we are planning on doing a little redecorating. Thing is, it's a 2 bed house with a main bathroom and an en suite coming off the master bedroom. We also have a kid on the way and for some reason, the girlfriend is hell bent on having a builder rip out the en suite to turn it into a nursery for the kid. I personally think it's madness. The only way out of the house from the en suite is through the master bedroom and there is only a small window at the very top of one of the walls. She wishes to use the second bedroom as a spare to keep our stuff in and for visiting friends and family. I think we could use it as the kid's bedroom and have a fold out bed for visitors. But my main concern is 'will taking the en suite out devalue the house'? We also plan on maybe renting it out in a few years so I am also worried that we may not got as much monthly rent without the en suite. The dimensions of the en suite are about 2 metres by 2 metres and consist of a walk in shower against a tiled wall, a sink, a toilet and a tiled floor. What do you all think?
Do vanities in separate bathrooms have to be the same? I have a two bedroom, two bath condo. It is the perfect roommate floor plan in that on each side of the living room is a master bedroom suite. The bathrooms are very, very small and original to the 25-year-old building. Enlarging the bathrooms is not an option, by the way. Last year, I had planned to renovate the guest bathroom, and I bought a nice small vanity with a vessel sink. Unfortunately, my contractor flaked out, thankfully before work started, so that project didn't get done. This year, both bathrooms are going to be renovated. Recently, I found another vanity that I really like. Both vanities are contemporary in style, but they are not similar to each other. Will future buyers look at the two different bathrooms as a flaw or a problem? Sorry, I meant to post links to photos of the two vanities. Here's the one I want to buy for my bathroom: http://www.homedecorators.com/detail.php?parentid=3394800&cartId=11858878 Here's the one I bought last year for the guest bathroom. http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Heirloom_Bombe_24W_Sink_Cabinet_-_Black_Granite_Top/550/
Splitting Mortgage Payment/renting out room, What is Fair? My sister and I bought a house 2 years ago. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. My sister pays half the mortgage, and I pay half (with my husband). She has the master bedroom and private bathroom.. and her son has his own room. My new husband and I share one room, and use the other bathroom (not private). The final room is the room in question. We were planning on renting out the extra room to help with our finances.. My sister says that the extra room's rent should be applied toward the mortgage before we split it. I feel that I should get the extra room for my own uses since she and her son have 2 rooms and she doesn't pay anything extra for them (plus she even gets the master bedroom suite). Therefore the rent would belong to me. What do you think is fair? If we sell the house, profits (if any) would be split 50/50 between myself and my sister... My husband is not involved in the ownership of the house. So we split the payment 50/50. Although my husband and I have 2 incomes, we still only have 1 room in the house, and I only have half ownership. If we split the rent money between both of our payments, then my sister would be paying 50% of the house but getting 2 rooms plus half the rented room (62.5% of the rooms in the house). And I would be paying 50% for only 1 room plus half of the rented room. (37.5% of the house)
What is Raining down on the Obama parade? Ben Smith had this cute little piece out on 16 July of this year on the Raines - Obama connection. An ill-timed -- for Obama -- profile of former Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines, forced out in an accounting mess a few years ago. The Style Section piece reports that he's recently been taking "calls from Barack Obama's presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters." Taking calls? Doesn't that mean Obama has been calling him? The McCain Campaign had a nice video out on the connection between Obama and Raines. And there is another video out of Fannie Mae head Daniel Mudd praising Obama. So who is Daniel Mudd? I think it will come as no surprise that he lives in a Mudd hut. A 22-room Mudd hut. Evidently ripping off the taxpayers pays very well. Very well indeed. As more than a million US homeowners face devastating mortgage foreclosures, ousted Fannie Mae CEO Daniel Mudd continues to live in an opulent Washington, DC, mansion replete with expansive gardens, servants' quarters and a home theater. Mudd, whose former company is being bailed out by billions in taxpayer dollars, calls home a 22-room Colonial mansion on Newark Street in tony Cleveland Park, built on the former property of President Grover Cleveland. The eight-bedroom, eight-bath pad includes large public rooms with fireplaces, a home theater, a gym, a wine cellar, a solarium, servants' quarters, a terrace off the master-bedroom suite, and a gourmet kitchen. The gated, landscaped property also features a pool, fountains, gardens and a guesthouse. The property is so lavish that some company employees dubbed it "Mudd Manor." And they're furious that the executive at the helm of the ship as it sank into profound crisis has surfaced relatively unscathed, at least for now. "Hey, he lost his limo and corner suite [at the office], but Mudd Manor is not a bad place to contemplate your next move," said a bitter Fannie Mae employee who requested anonymity. "Most Fannie Mae employees are reeling from their employee stock-option-plan account balances' going to cents on the dollar." So the little people get fleeced and the big guys walk. That Obama has some really swell friends.
how to begin a complete home renovation? i have a house that i would love to keep, the location is great but the house layout is not working for me. i dont know where to begin - what kind of contractor should i look for? do i hire an architect first? here is what i want to do: 1. tear down walls and recreate spaces - including moving windows where necessary 2. move an upstairs bathroom 3. create a master bedroom suite with new bathroom space 4. move laundry room upstairs 5. finish off basement 6. create an open floor plan down stairs by removing walls where possible 7. open up the foyer from front door 8. expand on existing sunroom and construct a new one 9. concrete porch repairs 10. brick driveway i estimate the house construction will take approximately 6 months to a year to complete. i plan to move out of the house and rent an apartment for the duration of the project. i want to 'go green' as much possible. the location is 15 minutes east of philadelphia. any one with experience? been through a renovation of this kind? all knowledge and tips on how to start and what to look for would be great! thanks!

Should I turn my third bedroom into a dining room? Im a single man in my late 20s and own a three bedroom, 2 story home with no dining room and a small amount of room in kitchen for table. THe smallest room and kitchen are separated by a wall. I want to remove/create opening to make the small bedroom into dining room that flows into kitchen. Everyone keeps saying the same thing, "its abad idea to remove bedroom because when you sell house." Heres the thing, I just bought the house and plan on living there for 5-10 years. Would it be better to open up my "entertaining area" for now and close wall up when Im ready to sell? My only other use of room would be as a "reading room" but since I already have an office in my master suite, I wuld never ever use it. I figure I could knock out wall for under $1,000 and replace it for the same in 5-7 years whenever I sell,,,,, or make a note when selling that I will pay to close room
What is the average cost of building a garage? My husband and I bought our home from my mother-in-law about 2 years ago. The house is a small two story built in the late 1800s with 1 bath (on the main floor) & 3 bedrooms (two of which are very small). We purchased it for about 1/3 of it's actual worth. We have a lot of renovations in mind but what I'd really like to do is add a basic attached two car garage with a master suite upstairs including a master bath. We have both family and friends that are in the roofing and siding business as well as carpentry so there will be a fair amount of "sweat equity"involved. I would love any advice as far as estimates go. We plan on staying here since this house was built by the family so I'd really like to make it exactly what we need & want. Eventually I would also like to add a little terrace to that upstairs master suite as well. Thanks for reading! There are no restrictions as to what can be done (except our budget of course).
What is a good price range estimate for completely re-plumbing/piping a house like this:? The house has been vacant for 10+ years and has been stripped of its copper plumbing. Existing materials are also not up to code. Gas lines will need to be re-run, or if approved for an underground propane tank, propane lines will need to be run. We have not yet purchased the property, so it's difficult to get formal estimates. The home was originally built in 1920, and we plan on gutting the entire interior for a complete remodel. Roommate wants the bigger room, but split the rent? So everything started off well, but now I feel a bit taken advantage of. So my roommate and I are looking for a condo to rent. Originally, we agreed that she would pay $100 dollars more wherever we lived, because she wants the bigger bedroom. We found 2 condos that we are deciding between. each one is a 2 bed 2 bath with all utilities included. In each condo, the master bedroom's are huge, while the second bedrooms are actually very small offices. My soon to be roommate is saying that the rent should be split evenly-and she should still get the bigger room. Her reasoning is that the extra $100 dollars she agreed to pay is for a parking stall for her car. I tried to reason with her that her car has no effect on me, as I dont have my licence, and I will never be using it. (in my eyes, that is her personal expense). Her response on top of the car, was that she has more furniture than I do, she should automatically get the larger room (I have furniture as well, but she refuses to store/give up any of hers)... So my plan is to talk to her about this situation. I understand where she is coming from, apartments in our city are expensive and she is excited to have such a nice room. But I do not feel comfortable paying 30% of my income to live in an office, while she pays the same and has the master bedroom with en suite. My solution would be that she pays $100 more in rent (not including her parking fees). I think that is fair... Does anyone have any advice, or ideas for me? Thank you guys! I wasn't sure if I was right in feeling this way, but now I see I have to stand up for myself...In all honesty she and I have agreed on everything else! We agreed to buy our own food, laundry supplies, limitations on friends/boyfriends over, and are both very clean, quiet girls so I thought that this was going to be a good thing... I dont want this to ruin our friendship, she has already given notice to her current roommates and I would hate for this to come between us, but I dont want to be walked all over...
How to convert a bedroom into an apartment? I am 18 and planning on living with my parents while I attend community college. I am really not ready to move out on my own yet, but it would really be nice to have my own space. We are moving in a few months and I am hoping to get the master bedroom (So I can have a bathroom) But I was wondering what I could do for a kitchen. Could I just get a mini fridge and a microwave and maybe have a sink put in? How much would getting the sink put in cost? I kind of want it to look like those mini kitchens in hotel suites. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=mini+kitchen+in+suite&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1118&bih=815&tbm=isch&tbnid=f4SP5T662GkXsM:&imgrefurl=http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotos-g55229-d105494-w3-Embassy_Suites_Hotel_Nashville_Airport-Nashville_Tennessee.html&docid=0MYzZADE2JE69M&w=550&h=412&ei=yA5UTp3zE8HD0AHr0aHVBQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=269&page=1&tbnh=161&tbnw=233&start=0&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=99&ty=74

what do you think of this small house floor plan? i have been looking for a house to build to sell and have a budget so have to keep it scaled down at this time...maybe the next one can be bigger. I just built one(finishing now) and learned a lot. I want a one level on a slab for ease of building to speed it up. Also no stairs is a money and time saver. I want 3 bedrooms so it suits the average family. and a few bonuses like walk in closets and an open concept. I was prepared to build a home up to 1500 sq ft but came across this plan... http://www.houseplans.com/1333-square-feet-3-bedroom-2-bathroom-Cottage-house-plans-2-garage-(4411) I think its perfect. Master suite is large and nice to have a porch right by it. and seperate laundry centrally located. also all bedrooms have walk in closets...nice i think. so keeping in mind its size is small what do you think of it? please tell me your opinions as it is to sell so your opinions are what counts.

Where should I put dark hardwood in my home? My math teacher gave us an assignment requiring that we create the floor plan of a house between 1,000 and 1,400 heated square feet. We also have to pick out at least three different types of floor coverings. I found two REALLY pretty dark hardwoods and one lighter. It's going to be in Ocean Springs, Mississippi which is within walking distance of a beautiful beach. Where should I put my flooring. Indoor Rooms: Master Suite, 1 other bedroom with a half-bath, playroom (for kids), kitchen, and living room. Outdoor Rooms: Garage, pool house, garden shed, and if you consider an open porch an outdoor room then that too. I'm 14, the children are fictional.
My mother-in-law recently passed away and left her house to the kids. We are thinking about remodeling it? while the market is still down and listing it after the market picks up. Here are my questions: 1) What type of flooring are people preferring in the common areas (living room, dining room) in the Salt Lake City area? I say hardwood, my husband thinks that the almost brand new plush carpeting is just fine. I thought plush carpeting was really old-school now. 2) This is a large 6,000 square foot home that has very spacious living areas but tiny bedrooms. It is currently a 5 bedroom house. Even the master is tiny. There is just enough room for a king-sized bed, two night stands and a dresser with just enough room left over to walk around the bed. I have heard that bedrooms sell homes. If we enlarged the master, we would have to take out two additional bedrooms, making it a 3 bedroom home. Should we keep the bedrooms or make a nice master suite. No, the master suite would not be too big if we should remodel it. 3) We are planing on the re-do mentioned above as well as turning 2 baths into one large-ish master bath. We will also paint, redo the flooring and update the 70's kitchen. On the second story, we plan on enlarging 2 small bedrooms, painting, redoing the flooring bringing the bathroom out of the '70's and updating the 2nd floor kitchen. My question is this: Can we be expecting to recoup our costs when we finally do list it, or would it be better to sell as-is? I've heard that re-do's such as this only recoup about 70% of the costs. However, we could also look at this as a flip where a lot of money is made. 4) There is a VERY large family room upstairs which we could divide in half and put another bedroom in. Good idea or not? 5) When we redo the master, we would have a small office(?) space left over. Would a 7X10 room be sufficient for the office. Addtl info: This is in a very upscale neighborhood. There is a 4 car garage and a small but beautiful back yard and deck. What other upgrades should we make to the house that I am not considering? Thank you. BTW, please don't tell me to contact a real estate agent. We are listing with one who just left on a 3 week vacation today, so he can't come and give his opinion on the house until mid Oct. First floor: Huge living room and formal dining room, huge kitchen (badly laid out), large breakfast nook, large laundry, formal foyer, 3 small berooms (including master) 2 small bathrooms, 4 car garage. Second floor: 2 small bedrooms, one small bathroom, a small kitchen, one ENORMOUS family room which right now is arranged into 3 separate "living room" areas. Seriously, there is a LOT of room up there to enlarge one of the bedrooms, create a small dining area AND make a separate living room and family room.
What is are the average total costs of home renovations? I would like to purchase an old home in one of St. Louis' historic neighborhoods to rehab and live in. I would like to find something that has a solid structure and in need of a little TLC. I would like to salvage anything I can like old wood floors, pedestal sinks, trim, doors, etc. However, I expect I will have to tear out some walls to do plumbing and electrical work. The only change in floor plan would be to convert 2 bedrooms to a master suite complete with jetted tub, shower and walk in closet. I also plan to contract all the work out to an experienced renovator. I would just like to know what a ball park figure of costs would be for such an endeavor? Thanks.
Would anyone like to buy a 50% share of a 2 bed, 2 bath new build flat in Erdington, Birmingham for £70k? I am selling my share of a lovely 1st floor new build flat on the Highcroft development in Erdington. It has been valued at £140,000, has a large lounge, good sized kitchen, 2 double bedrooms, a main bathroom and en-suite to the master bathroom. It comes carpeted, with a washer/dryer and cooker. A private parking space is also provided. Estate agents are trying to charge me £4000 to put the flat on the market, but I have been advised by several different sources that there is a big demand for 50% share properties. Bearing this in mind I thought I might try to sell my home privately. I have loved living there for the last 18 months, but my husband and I want to buy house in order to start a family. If anyone is interested in purchasing the 50% share for £70,000 then please let me know. Alternatively, please feel free to ask any questions. I plan to upload some photographs of the property onto the web in the next couple of days. Thanks in advance all, Michelle
Which house is the best deal? (Lots of details to follow) I am a first time home buyer about to make a choice between two houses. I like both houses a lot, but my opinion aside, which one makes more sense financially? I am only looking to live in the house for about 5-7 years. Also I have no kids and I am not planning on having any. It would just be me and my boyfriend and our dog. Here is the house information, both houses are the SAME price. Both sellers would pay my closing costs. House A is 7 years old, in a new build neighborhood that is done with construction, it has 2 full baths and 3 bedrooms (including a master suite), Square footage is around 1250. It has only a tiny yard, maybe .1 of an acre. Inside needs some work (painting, carpet ripped up, cleaning), it also has a 2 car attached garage. House B was built in 1946, in an established older neighborhood, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, 900 sq. feet, 1/2 an acre yard, all new carpet, new paint, move in ready, it has a one car detached garage, and a large deck/patio area. House B is about 2-3 minutes driving distance from where I work, House A is about 10-15. I don't know if this matters, but house B is across from a large upscale apartment complex. House A is in a neighborhood that has walking/nature trails and a community pool. Since I feel the same about each one, I am looking for advice on which one is the best deal for my money. Also, the best house for future resale. My realtor is on vacation this week, so I have to have an answer by Friday. Thanks for any advice! Please don't waste your time or mine with "I don't know answers" or "Whichever one you like better". I feel the same about them, I would love living in either one. Thanks again.
132sq m open plan house, where would you put the rooms? Hello everyone, now this may be a strange question to ask on here, but I thought, you never know what interesting and informed input you are going to get, so what can it hurt? So my husband and I have a 132sq metre open plan house that we soon have to put in our plan to the builders in regards to where the walls will go. We have decided on 3 bedrooms (1 master w/ en suite and 2 smaller bedrooms equal size), one bathroom with small almost closet like adjoining laundry and then kitchen and living room can be open plan as far as I'm concerned maybe a work bench of the kitchen to partion off the rooms. I mean I'm not expecting anyone to draw me out a sketch but I was wondering if people had experienced making plans of their house and wished they done this or that, or anyone have any insight or thoughts? In regards to the attached pic, the veranda side is on a drop so we will have a view and the opposite side will have the front street access door. We are at our liberty as to where to put windows and how many, and on that clean 10m wall we can put the front door anywhere. http://picasaweb.google.com/housegirly/UntitledAlbum#5335338171319709250 cool, that's an interesting thought I obviously didn't think of being new to all this. The 10m wall with the veranda is facing South. You are Greek? Did you recognise me from the Greek section? :) Thanks for your input!
remodel my house, any help would be appreciated? we just bought a house that we plan on living in for at least the next 5-7 years. it has 1660 sq ft. main floor has kitchen 12x11, dinning room 12x12 living room 16x14 master 19x10 and another bedroom 12x10 and a small bathroom and long hallway. upstairs has loft area 26x14 and 2 bedrooms 13x11 and a half bath. what i was wondering is we watch that HGTV all the time. we were thinking about knocking down the wall between the 2 downstairs bedrooms and making the master larger and adding another large master bathroom so we would have a master suite. that would still leave us with 3 beds and 2.5 baths. i want to know if that will increase the value of my home going from a 4 bed 1.5 bath, another problem is we are the largest house in the area right now. there was an upstairs added, all the other houses are smaller 1 story prolly 1000 sq ft homes. other houses around are going for 70-80k we bought ours for 110k. would it be worth doing this remodel???
Moving cats into our new house? My two kitties (Mimzy McMegaClaws and Charles Windsor) are strictly indoor only cats. Why? Because we live in the country and they will get eaten by coyotes, wild dogs, mountain lions or other wildlife. I'm stressing because my babies have only ever known the apartment they live in now. They are very loving, but shy around strangers. We plan to put the litter box in the garage.... So, here's my plan. Please offer any additional advice to make this transition easier! I plan to keep the cats holed up in their bedroom (AKA the guest bedroom) at the apartment while we move all the large furniture. Over the next week, I'll be moving all the little stuff in my Honda over to the new house so it doesn't take long. Once the furniture is moved, I plans to load up the cats, litter boxes (we have two. Two cats = two litter boxes), and take them to the new house. I'll run in and place their litter boxes in the garage. Where should I open their cage? Do I start them out in the garage where the litter box is? Do I start them out in the upstairs master suite (which will be their "safe room" that doesn't get traffic besides my husband and myself)? Do I put one litter box upstairs for now and the other one in the garage? I don't want them to be too terrified and I don't want them to poop on the brand new carpet, either. The move isn't stressing me out. The only thing that's stressing me out is making sure my beloved babies are happy, healthy and calm. I like JCK's idea. I'm buying a dog kennel gate to attach to the sides of the garage door so there will be a three foot gate in case we need to open the garage for ventilation. Like I said, I have two litter boxes (one resembles a potted plant with a hollow "pot" so I can use that one upstairs). I'll scoop twice a day, I guess. It's bizarre that I'm so calm about everything else, but STRESSED about the cats, lol! I love them more than anything! This house is good for them as it's about five times the size of the apartment we're in now.
Where to place the altar? After much consideration I have decided that the best place for my altar would be in the master bedroom (my room). However, I cannot really decide where in the master bedroom to place it. The left (western) wall is between the bathroom and the closet, not to mention faces directly across my bed. The far (southern) wall is directly in front of the door. The right (eastern) wall has an en suite closet and within that is the window. The near (northern) wall is taken up by a full bed. Currently I cannot relocate the altar to any of the other room due to the following reasons: the two other available spaces are in the living room and in the dinning (next the kitchen entrance), both high trafficked areas; and I have messy roommate who would most likely prefer to watch movies and be on the computer when I am communing. Should you need to view the floor plan of my room you can go to this webpage: http://propimages.apartments.com/195561/002/03/FL010132.JPG

Should I ask mom not to bring her boyfriend on our family vacation? My husband and I have planned a week long vacation at the beach with our 2 kids (8 & 20mths), my nephew (15), his mom, and my mom. We are paying 1/3 the room and the moms are each paying 1/3. Now, 2 weeks before we leave, my mom says she has invited her boyfriend to come down for 4 days. She says he will be staying on her 1/3 of the room, so he isn't paying for any of the room or groceries (which we also split the cost of into 1/3). We have only met him 4 times and my mother-in-law doesn't know him at all. She also says she wants him and her to have the master suite while he's there which we were going to have since we have to have a crib in the room. I just don't think it's appropriate to invite him since none of us really know him and she's going to be sleeping with him in the room next to her grandchildren. It leaves 5 of us(plus the baby) to share 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. What should I do? She's going to be mad if I say something but she is ruining everyone's vacation but hers.
Anyone moved back in with family (ie parents) due to financial situation? Also do you have any Kids? My partner is finding it hard to get work, and also decent work in the recession. we live together in a 3 bed house with our dog (rented and only place that was decent and accepted a dog). So many of our friends have either recently got married or had a baby and moved back with their parents in order to save enough money to buy a house since they now need 20% rather than the 5-10% before the recession. Anyone got any experiences of this themselves. We live in Uk. I Know not the best situation but no way we can save money with our current outgoings and incomings ratio. If we moved in with my parents we would get a bedroom with en suite and an extra bedroom to use as a living room, also get a roof terrace so will almost be like a mini flat inside a house. our background: Ive moved out 4 years ago, been to uni, recently graduated from my masters and am currently 3/4 through my pharmacist registration year, My partner (who is 30) moved to england last summer from denmark. He got work but has since left his job because his line manager first wouldn't let him leave when his shifts finished even though everything was complete, and slapped him round the face for doing something wrong but never told him what ... not as if we had planned for our income to decrease and he isnt entitled to job seekers allowance whilst looking for work because i am under 25 and he hasn't worked for 2 years in this country (he has only been here one) .... i am lucky to have great parents that are willing to help :) but I am not sure what we should do
The woman I love insists on his and hers facing toilet bowls so we can spend more time together.

Split bedroom house with small children? My H & I are looking for our first home and came across a house that has everything we're looking for - the only thing is it's a 1.5 story - with the master suite and a loft on the second level, the 2 other bedrooms are downstairs. We are planning on starting a family soon & I'm wondering if the split bedrooms (esp since the master is upstairs) would pose a problem? On the hand however, it would give us a lot of privacy... We're really torn b/c it's a great house - just a unique layout. Looking for some advice! thanks!
