Can anyone give ideas or pictures for a bedroom i want to make over? I might be moving back to the rents house and kinda bummed so i want to give myself something to look forward to. Thought some new paint might help. Its the master bedroom upstairs so its a large room. Im thinking black and white. I need some kind of design or pattern. Kinda goth punk but not depressing. And probably painting the wood floor and getting an area rug until we get carpet. Any ideas would help thanks.

Bedroom Paint/Decorating Ideas for Master Bedroom and its Balcony. I've been thinking of painting my room, but i don't know which colors i should pick........ Well the room's 17 x 14 feet in size and it has a sliding door at the other end as a window. I want to make it look nice since it's the master bedroom on the second floor and it overlooks the outside balcony. The house has a colonial style to it, painted white and the balcony has 3 arches, tiled with orange saltillo floor that matches the tile roofing....... Any paint and decorating ideas for both balcony and room?... oh and the balcony is 5 ft. x 17 ft just so you guys get a picture to come up with ideas.
Does anyone have any pictures of a purple theme master bedroom? Do any of you have a purple bedroom? Like more of a violet purple rather than lilac. I need some decorating ideas and I'm at a loss :/ I'm thinking of purple walls and white trim ad molding ... what color accessories should I have?
What are some ideas for a master bedroom accent wall? I'm changing up my room a bit. It's always been dark so I've bought all white bedding. I want to make it brighter and am adding a really neat ceiling lamp that I found at Ikea. The only thing I have on the walls currently is a huge canvas painting of a zebra. I still like that and would like to incorporate it into my new room. I am stuck on an idea for above my bed, or even that entire wall. I was thinking accent wall, wall paper, fabric wall... I don't know. Ideas and pictures will help. Thanks in advance for all the ideas!!!

remodel master bedroom? hello! my husband and i rent a house, it's a small rather older house probably built in the early 70's. the master bedroom is small, the sink is kind of in the room.. where the shower and toilet have their own separate room. i always said i didn't want to sink money into this house, but i'm just tired of living the way we are. i've done some minor adjustments, i put some beautiful dark red curtains up and that made it more cozy. i'm looking for a vintage/romantic/cozy room... what color should i paint the walls? ideas for painting/pictures in the room?? thank you!

Decorating a master bedroom on a budget? I really need to do something with the master. Its not huge, but I would say it's normal sized...I live in a townhome..that is about 1300 sq feet, so the room is okay. It's vaulted ceilings though, so I do not know how I should paint it. I don't have a bedroom set yet, and I plan on buying one within the next year, but I could do without it for now. Right now its purple..my bedspread, my my side tables have purple tableclothes on them. My downstairs is painted a light coffee/sandy brown color, and it used to have blue accessories, but Im pretty sure Im changing it to red. I like neutral colors with spurts of color. I like the comfy atmosphere, nothing that is TOO much. Any tips or ideas? I like antiques also. Pictures would be helpful.
Gray and Black Bedroom Idea's? I'm looking to use the colors gray and black in a small master bedroom. However I can not find any idea's. Can anyone provide me with links to pictures of gray and black bedrooms or any kind of idea's????
I need help creating a "modern" victorian Master bedroom feel...? I just redid my entire master bedroom and something is not right... My husband and I bought a gorgeous burgandy comforter with matchng curtains, all of which have big gold flowers on them with olive/ sage green leaves. Our furniture is a deep walnut color and I just painted the walls to match the leaves. My husband LOVES it... me not so much... it needs something. It looks like a room in a little old lady's victorian home, pretty... just too grandmaish for me. I feel like something could jazz it up a bit and make it feel a little more modern, but not sure what. I prefer the less is more concept, I can't stand clutter or business. Throw in the fact that I am very practical and this room is small and has a king size bed, but we're not changing it or the comforter set. The hardware is gold and two pictures that we have up and for sentimental reason will not come down are both framed in antique gold... I know... it doesn't help matters. So far one wall is bare. Any ideas? P.S. the trim around the doors, floorboard, and closet itself is white. I like the black idea... would it clash?

How should I decorate my master bedroom? I got new furniture and a new bedspread for my master bedroom so I'm going to be redecorating! Now I need some ideas for wall treatment, flooring, curtains, and decorations. This is my new furniture: http://www.roomstogo.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=showRoom&roo_id=6933 This is my new bedspread it's Daniel Cremiux Medallion: http://www.beddingenvy.com/2009/07/daniel-cremieux-medallion-bedding.html There are currently wood floors in the room, but they're about the same color as the furniture and they're not in the best condition, so they'll have to be redone or covered. I already have some new beige carpet to lay in there, but I'm not sure if thats the way to go. We're open to anything so please be creative and include any picture of paint colors, wall paper, curtains, flooring, art, or rooms that we could take inspiration from. Thanks! L♥
Sort of redesigning the master bedroom? The room is like a really light green. One wall has a small window, the one next to it has a small window, the one next to it has a bathroom door, and the last wall has the entrance door. We have a burgundy bedroom set with two little closets across from it. I would really like to redesign the small features of it -such as adding pictures to walls -changing curtains -adding flower vases -bed sheets and pillows -rugs Can you help me on brainstorming and coming up with ideas as well as arranging them...or just how to rearrange the room Also where can i get some of this for a cheap price Thanks =)

how to decide on the color to paint a master bedroom and bath? i realize that this all boils down to personal choice but i'm stuck between two colors. First off, let me give you an idea of what i've got going on in my bedroom/bath. My bedroom furniture is all dark wood (mahogany I think), with brushed nickel hardware. All the trim is painted white. In my bathroom, the vanity and everything is white except for a wooden dresser that has an espresso finish with brushed nickel hardware. I have a few black picture frames in both rooms along with some light aqua accents. I'm trying to decide between a soft, grayish green or a warm darker tan. These are Sherwin Williams colors, one is called Mega Greige and the other is called Sea Salt. Thank you.
How to decorate and design a Old Hollywood/Paris themed bedroom.? I am 14 and I want to redo my bedroom. I have the master bedroom so I have more room! I want my room to be like an Old Hollywood/Paris theme. I think it feels romantic and charming. I painted my walls pink but they look to kiddish. I'm thinking about doing wallpaper on two walls, but I don't know what pattern I would do. I have all white furniture. I was also looking for a vanity for a cheap price but something that would be sturdy and last long. It has to be white. I have been trying to find a chandelier to put in my closet, but all the ones that I have found are way to expensive. I was thinking about putting like pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn on the walls. Any ideas for paint color, decor, chandeliers, furniture, wallpaper?
Want to do a bedroom makeover... something simple but different? Starting college soon and I would really like to give my room a makeover...i'm staying at home. I don't want to change the wall color but I'm open to other ideas. I've cleaned out some stuff I don't need and isn't too age-appropriate anymore. I have a little bit of furniture like a nightstand, dresser, and a bookshelf but their is room for something else if I want to add something. I'm thinking about adding some framed pictures but thats about all i've thought of. I really like romantic type rooms but I dont think I can make it like a master bedroom or anything lol... Are there any good websites for tips on redecorating? What are the cheapest/best places to buy things? I don't have a lot of money so I can't do too much.

I can look at pictures and pick out what I do or do not like.....but could never just come up with something on my own. I was wondering if anyone had any good websites for ideas. My Master bedroom is attached to the master bathroom, both are fairly small. I just want to have the most awesome room ever. Please HELP! Just decorating, not remodeling! :)

How can i make my teen bedroom STYLISH or COOL or SOPHISTICATED or CLASSY etc etc??? Hi. So my Mum has just given me the master bedroom to our house. I know, I'm lucky... In it i have a walk-in-wardrobe and an Ensuite. I'm not sure if the bedroom is classified as small or not, but it's dimensions are 18' x 17'. The walk-in-wardrobe is 11' x 9'. Basically, what i am looking for is design ideas that can help me turn this room into "ME". I want it to reflect my style, but still be uber-cool and super stylish and sophisticated at the same time. I am 17, and i dont plan on moving out until about 25, so permanency is not an issue. Also, the budget is unlimited. I will briefly list some of my interests and style tastes so that you may get a better feel of who "I" am. My Interests •Photography •Reading •Writing •Watching movies •Listening to music •Editing photos •Surfing the internet •Planning •Fashion •Style •Video games My Style/Taste •Eclectic, including: •African •Egyptian •Roman •Oriental •Mexican/Spanish/Aztec •Things that evoke a sense of age and epic-ness e.g. LOTR, 300, 10,000BC •Ancient Civilisations •Modern •Classy •Sophisticated •Retro •Grunge •Expensive •Adventurist (my own word, apparently) Here are some pics of me. I guess showing you who i am might make it easier for you to 'see' who i am. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethan_9219/sets/72157602346493483/ It would be great if anybody has any ideas that may reflect anything that i mentioned or you think would suit me. I am open to other ideas that you may have that are cool but are different to what i mentioned. I think it would help for you to see the space i will be working with. So here is a picture of my room's layout: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethan_9219/2802841153/ One thing that i want to have in my room is a giant photograph taking up either a full wall, or most of it. If anybody has any ideas of what would be the perfect iconic image to use in this situation they would be much appreciated. I look forward to hearing everybody's ideas and suggestions. Thanks heaps, Ethan Ricky> You have me sort of worked out, but a few things. First of all, i am not from a well to do family....I am poor. Second, yes a lot of the time i enjoy being by myself...What better place to do that in my nice room? Thirdly, i am perfectly 100% straight....I like girls, not guys. The thing is i am 'man' enough to admit the things i like and i understand they may seem a little 'gay' or feminine...That's because i am perfectly 100% happy being who i am and enjoy doing what i like to do. Lastly, i am not a lonely nerd who would like to fill his room with mini figurines and such of historical battles...OK?

Curtain room divider... would like pictures if possible.? I'm thinking about making a room divider to divide the living room and the dining room up. Not only is that living room way too bright in the morning, but the roommates are taking it upon themselves to use that as their central location to hang out even though every roommate has their own either large master bedroom or their OWN large livingroom. (it's a multi-bedroom townhouse) A tension rod is out of the question because the length is too long to put the curtain across. Any good ideas on this? Also, if you had pics to show that would be great because pics alone can give me some good ideas. The livingroom is my own very space but right next to it is the patio door, and they will be having BBQs soon and I want my own space where I don't have to constantly see moving traffic. I wanted to go the curtain route so that I can still make people feel invited in when the curtains are down.
What paint color should i paint my bedroom? I purchased this new sage green bedding (http://www.herbergers.com/product/bed+%26+bath/comforter+sets/livingquarters+hotel+12piece+ensemble+sage.do) for my master bedroom and I now need to repaint the accent wall in my room to go with the new bedding, any idea what color I should paint? (The picture above my bed is in a tan color frame so I don't want to paint the wall just a brown color or something that will blend in with that picture) http://www.herbergers.com/product/bed+%26+bath/comforter+sets/livingquarters+hotel+12piece+ensemble+sage.do Maybe this link will work I like the idea of having the accent wall a green color and the rest of the walls a brown/tan color because I really don't like painting and the other walls in my bedroom are already painted a tan/brown color, so that would cut out some of the painting work for me! What shade of green would you suggest me doing for an accent wall? A darker or lighter shade then the bedding?
How can I change the way I use this space? If you can picture this, my whole upstairs of my house is just bedrooms. As soon as you walk up the steps there is the door to our master bedroom (and there is no master bathroom). Connected by a doorway (and no door) is a smaller bedroom, and connected by another doorway is a third bedroom of the same size. So the second bedroom has two doorways connected the first and third bedroom. My trouble is that I don't really use the second bedroom space for anything other than a possible guest bedroom, which no one uses when they spend the night anyway (they find it awkward sleeping between my & my husbands bedroom, and our infant son's bedroom (3rd room). The bed is also broken and pretty much useless. What can I change this space into if we rarely use the upstairs other than for sleeping? Our office is in our bedroom (just a computer and small desk) at our own preference. Now I think I just want a new function for bedroom #2. Ideas???
need help with color coordinating living room? hey im moving out in a few months and i would like some websites or ideas of colors and materials that go together. -for the living room i want things to go with green -master bedroom i want something with purple that's all im sure of for now but if u have any ideas for the other 3 rooms,3 bathrooms please let me know also it would be better if you had pictures.thanks :)
help me pick new rooms? okay well over the span of 3 hours i've gone from angry to sad to some what happy. i've found out i'm moving a town over. i was upset but i figured, why mope because there's nothing i can do about it so i might as well make the best of it. so my parents are basically bribing me to go. they said i get my choice of bedroom and nursery. and the interior decorator my mom is hiring will decorate my room and the baby's room. i'm showing you pictures of the new rooms so you can help me decide which rooms. i did not take these pictures myself. these are pictures i got off the riverside realty website. i'm not taking any credit for these pictures. i'm uploading them to my own photo bucket. this is because i really don't want to hear people accuse me of being a spoiled brat when they see the house, like most people tend to do. and i'm doing it for privacy reasons because i don't want people on here to know where i live. there are 4 bedrooms, not including the master bedroom. my parents have already decided the smallest will be the guest bedroom so i won't bother uploading the picture of it. each bedroom has it's own bathroom and walk in closet. they're basically the same except for set up and location. i'm uploading pictures of 3 rooms. one for me, one for my baby, and the other will most likely be another guest bedroom. bedroom 1: http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab89/leahxolovee/bed9.jpg i dont't really like this one because o the random sink in it i think i want that one to be the guest bedroom bedroom 2: http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab89/leahxolovee/bed1.jpg this one is nice looking. it overlooks the pool, pool house, and rest of the backyard. bedroom 3: http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab89/leahxolovee/bed2.jpg this bedroom is nice looking too. this also overlooks the pool, pool house, and the rest of the backyard. all of the bedrooms are in the same wing so i'd have easy access to my son's room. even though i usually make him sleep in the spare crib in my bedroom. so which room should i choose? and which should be the nursery for the baby? any ideas for colors, themes, other decorations? first answer- that's actually a pretty good idea i didn't even think of that! and i think i worded the questions poorly i need help choosing which should be my own bedroom AND choosing a different room to be the baby's nursery. Julie L - do you mean the bedrooms are big? or the house? how did you see the house? and it's okay, you're not being rude. and idk why there's a sink there. haha it's weird because there's a sink in the bathroom about a foot away... Katrina: yeah it's a suburb. what state are you in? Eva - i'm choosing new colors for the rooms anyway. because i'm not a big fan of the blue either =]

Relationship HELP !!! I know its long but PLEASE read. Im not understanding why his being like this !!!? So, I have a 5 yo from a previous relationship. I bought a house in May 2009 and moved in with my boyfriend about 6months later. I had a roomate who was a good friend so he stayed in my house and is now renting it from me. H ewent from HIMSELF renting a room to custody of his kids and making it his own housem which took some effort. I can't just kivk him out and make him move because he's a great friend and I feel that would be wrong. So., my relationship: I had booked a year ago for a 3 night stay in reno, nevada for Hot August Nights and gave him to my BF has his xmas present. This was planned a year ago. He then invited my cousins their kids to come. My cousin spent $4,000 getting his car ready to go with us. My BF cut our one and only vacation short by 2 days which really upset me. Anyhow, he got an invitation for a baby shower and had me cancel our saturday night room reservations so he can drive back 5 hours to go to this baby shower, CAUSE HE'S THE GODFATHER !! I felt like that wrong since he had already made a committment to me and my cousins as well. I moved into his fully furnished house so notihng is mine which doesnt make me feel at home. I lived with him for about 1 year. He has 20 pictures of his WHOLE family in the living room but wont let me hang up pictures of my daughter, or my decorations, because he says he doesnt want the walls cluttered. Then he got a 6wk old blkack lab puppy. And....I can't even take it outside to go the bathroom, I cannot feed the dog, or let him out of his pen until my BF comes home. Plus he brought him home already named, I feel that is something a family does together. He told me he was going to take care of the dog because I've never "trained" a dog before and he's going to train the dog to be well behaved. Sorry, but how hard can that be? I've had dogs before.I feel left out. My clothes are in 3 diffferent closets and my jeans are in the hall closet, dresses in the office because he wonr share the ONE master bedroom closet with me. He never comproises with me, its his way or no way. He has ALOT of good traits and qualities that I see in him but I do not understand this controlling thing !!! The other thing I'm about is that when my 5 yo wakes up, he REFUSES to let her come cuddle in the bed "because it's not her bed". H efeels she should only be in her bed. I feel he tales on too many rules for her and because he doesnt have children of his own, doesnt know what its like when your kids want to cuddle. Sorry sooooooooo long but I just had to name a few things so I can get your ideas because he feels justified in what he's doing.

How should I arrange my living room furniture? Here's some pictures: http://oi55.tinypic.com/xpovn7.jpg They're all standing in the living room. The first pic is looking toward the back door, the second pic toward the front door, and the third toward the kitchen. I'm not really sure how to arrange the furniture - where to put the TV and the sofa/loveseat. Any ideas would be great. I'm thinking about mounting the TV on the wall to save some space. But the difficulty here is that the room is rectangular, with the master bedroom door right there in the middle (you can see on the right side in the first pic). Then there's the entryway which should be kept clear. So not really sure what to do.

Finish Cape Cod upper level? Getting ready to buy a cape cod and need ideas for finishing the upstairs. It is completely unfinished and I want to make half the master bedroom & half the master bath. I am more interested in photos of bathrooms. I cant picture where to put appliances with dormer ceilings. TY!
what kind of window coverings should I use for a pointed top window? We have moved our master bedroom into the attic. So the windows are pointed at the top like a triangle on top of a square. What kind of window treatments should I use? I thought about getting shutters with the triangle part open because they are above window seats and I am also concerned with my kids breaking the window and, horribly falling out. They are old windows. Does anyone have any ideas. A link to a picture would be great. I have searched, but can't find anything. Thanks for your help. I do know I don't have to fit them exactly. If I use shutters I will just cover the square part, but if I use drapes, I don't know what to do. Like, should I just hang them over the square part too or over the whole thing. Just looking for cute ideas. Thanks for answering.
Kitchen & Family room paint? hi everybody we are planning on painting our family room & kitchen. in kitchen we have cinnamon cherry cabinets, brown tiles & brownish back splash. corian counter top has black, brown, grey & white in it but black is the dominant color. we are thinking we may need a light color as everything else is dark. we'll appreciate if you can throw some ideas around. so far we're leaning a little toward light brown in kitchen & family room, dark brown or maroonish on family room niche and on arches that lead to master bed & 2nd bedroom. you can see the pictures at http://community.webshots.com/album/561422598QctESi i was initially thinking about green as i like brown & green combination. our exterior is green and doors are dark brown. but i'm not sure if green will go with cinnamon cherry. appliances are stainless steel. appreciate your help guys, thank you so much for all your help. catherine, the colors you suggested are very similar to what we had in our mind. let me know what you all think about this: option 1: kahlua & cream in kitchen, arizona tan in family room and earthly russett on the arch walls that lead to master bed & 2nd bed and on the family room niche. option 2: dump kahlua & cream all together and paint family & kitchen with arizona tan yowza, i like the first link to hgtv that you sent. dawnb, if you get a chance, can you pls suggest me a shade of green from one of these color web sites ? we tried putting few swatches but didn't work.
What happens to walls after foundation work is done? I'm talking about the Walls inside the house.. In this case Bedroom walls. We are serious about buying this house BUT our inspector said that it did need minor foundation work. The seller got an estimate from a reputable foundation co. and was quoted $3000 for repairs. Inspector said it was just one corner of the house that gradually sat about 2inches lower than the center of the house. It is the corner where the master bedroom is located. If you look at the pictures from the website it is the front corner of the opposite side of the driveway. The house is lovely, very CLEAN, and we absolutely love it. Inspector said that the rest of the house looked great and he thinks is a great house overall and he thinks it could get it done for about $2400. Just want to have an idea of what the outcome would be if we decide to move forward with this house. *FHA will not lend unless this is fixed... I was always threatened with the fact that they didn't have to let me live there and I never knew if one day I might be forced to leave. As I was growing up I always dreamed of the day I would have my own home. A place were I felt safe and was my own, a place where I didn't feel like a guest. Having my apartment taught me how to be responsible with paying my rent and utilities and most importantly it gave me my first home. It was March 2008 when I found the perfect apartment while searching through Craigslist. The add had a short description of being a 2 bedroom 1 bath and was accompanied by two pictures. One of a huge living room with a fireplace and the other was of a large bedroom. I had to see it right away so I called the manager immediately and she said that she had time to show it to me later that day. As soon as my uncle came home we drove over to see it. We drove down a quiet tree lined street in Redondo Beach and pulled up in front of the apartment building. The apartment was tan with brown balconies and a tall tree in the front yard. I could see the manager was sitting on her porch waiting for us. She was a nice woman in her 30’s that looked like a surfer. She had tan skin and wavy blond hair and she introduced herself as Shelly. We followed her up the stairs to the front door. She opened the door to reveal the large living room with the fireplace on the far wall I had seen in the picture. There was a sliding glass door that led out to a balcony on another wall. We went up two small stairs that put us into the dinning room and kitchen area. The apartment had a small kitchen but all of the appliances were new. I followed Shelly down the hall into the bathroom that went through to the master bedroom. I was amazed at the size of the room and even more surprised when she showed me the walk in closet. The three of us gathered in the living room and discussed the apartment. “So what do you think? Are you Interested? ” asked Shelly. Filled with excitement I said, “Yes I am. It’s beautiful and I’d love to live here.” A week later I received a call from Shelly telling me my application had gone through and that I could move in right away. I drove over later that day to give her a check and get the keys. It was the first time I had ever written a check and had no idea what to do at first, so I needed some help with it. Every month I lived there I learned more about being responsible. I had to make sure the rent and utilities were paid, that I had gone grocery shopping and that I had cleaned up after myself because no one was going to do it for me. I no longer live in that apartment but I will never forget it. I loved living there because I finally had a place of my own were I wasn’t contently afraid that I could be kicked out at any moment. Whenever I’m in the area I like to drive by the old tan building with its brown balconies. I look at the place that gave me my first real home and taught me how to be a responsible independent adult.
Need expert on Window repairs. CLICK LINK FOR PHOTO. I need the name of this part.? http://dailybooth.com/Kylehasamoment/22909003 The link above is a picture I just took of a window piece that is part of a lock. In our master bedroom, we have windows that extend out with a crank handle and a locking bar that goes to the left or to the right. How do I rotate a central home heater? I bought a house that has a little bit of a code violation with the central heater. First the closet where it is located is stored in the master bedroom, and second the distance from the front of the heater to the door is less than the 7'' required by NM safety code.the dimensions of the heating closet are longer than they are wide. As i'm in the process of the remodel two separate plumbers have recommended that I either rotate the device and make the service door open into the hall, or purchase a newer central heater with smaller dimensions. I believe there are several possible issues with this - duct work, gas line, etc... A small bit of history on this problem is that the heater was retrofit into the house after an older style floor heater. Any ideas where i can get a better picture of how to accomplish this? What sort of heater I should look to replace my current model with? and possibly some good general reading so that I better understand the whole project?
why do real estate websites look like they were put together buy incompetent monkeys? Does anyone agree with me or know the answer to why these sites look like they were put together by incompetent monkeys? Some sites may be worse than others but they all seem to have the same flaws. They camera pictures are always horrible and there description of property features is incomplete and horribly organized. I'm not saying I am looking to buy a house directly online, but there needs to be a little more description of what the house looks like. These picture do give a good sense of specific features in the house, fireplaces, new appliances and unique features, with few exceptions to the give an idea of the size of the room, the location of the room in the house, or the orientation of the room in the house, and god forbid they actually put some kind of floor plan in the house. I even saw one house listed were the only picture of it was half covered by a tree the photographer ( if you can call them that) could have easily eliminate the problem by moving to the right 3ft. The list of property features is a good example of how horribly there done. Year Built: 1964 3 total bedroom(s) 2 total bath(s) Master bedroom Total full bath(s) Approximately 1100 sq. ft. Four or more stories Master bedroom is 10x14 Living room is x20 Dining room is 9x11 Family room is 8x8 Kitchen is 8x Basement level is sq. ft. Garage Heating features: Forced Gas Heating, Forced Air Heating Forced air heat Anyone else think that list was put together and written in about 15 min? I know I do. Barley any information and half the stuff is duplicated. It looks horribly unprofessional. I guess I just expect a little more professionalism from a company that takes 7% of your home’s value to sit on their ass until a buyer comes along. I work in the restaurant industry and if I had this bad of service I would be fired and I work for 10-20 dollars a sale not several thousand. But in the end what do you expect from someone that only has 50-60 hours of pre job training, when a burger flipper gets almost half that.
I need help decorating my new Teen room (P.S. i am a male)??? Any tips?? Thanks heaps, Ethan

What do you think about black interior doors? My husband and I are building a custom, and I would like to paint all our doors black. The floorplan is very open, and the kitchen and living room are basically one big room, which I painted a very bright yellow. Behr's "Bicycle Yellow," to be exact. The master bedroom, for which we chose very light, airy blues, extends from the living room. Of course, there is a guest bathroom in the living room, and a master bath in our room. Three closets in the living room, one in guest bath, one in master bedroom, one in master bath. Those are basically the only rooms on the main level. I'm definitely no pro at interior design, but from pictures I have seen, black doors with white trim look very nice. I'm looking for your opinion. Keep in mind, hubby and I are both in our 20s, and my in-laws (50s-ish) have made it very clear that they do not like the idea. My husband and I, however, love the modern look. What do you think about it, Yahoo community? (EDIT: the floors are a light wood, and our living room furniture is dark brown leather. I'm kind of nervous the browns might clash with black doors :-/) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3oUVMuDHnYY/S5z7APGyAoI/AAAAAAAAFW0/mLsNjOOS4XY/s400/black+bathroom+door.jpg That is what gave me my idea :) The blue and yellow are extremely close to my bedroom and living room colors! Thank you for all of your sweet answers! Also this: http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/Hallway-Beatles-Lyrics-HTOURS0207-de.jpg :D
What Brown Substance Appears on Your Walls....? About a year ago, my husband and I noticed a brown substance that seemed to come through the baseboard in the northeast corner of our condo (our Master Bedroom). We have a 2 level condo and our Bedroom is on an outside wall above the garage. At first I thought something had spilled in the corner and I wiped it up with soap and water. My husband said he did the same thing 3 months later. Now a year later the brown substance (almost like mud but not as thick) has returned and there are even tiny brown spots appearing on the carpet in the same area. Any ideas on what may be causing the reappearing brown stuff---is it time to get an exorcist for the house??? (Just kidding). See picture at link. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t251/leemariet/BrownCornerMB.jpg

How much would it cost to add room above garage? http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/420-E-Ring-Factory-Rd-Bel-Air-MD-21014/36961675_zpid/ Above is a link to my house with a picture. The farthest left 2 windows are that of our master bedroom, over the right part of the garage. We would like to build above the left part of the garage just like our master currently is and expand our master suit into a much larger master suit with sitting room and office. Behind the garage is our family room which has a brick fireplace, the chimney is onthe left side of the house which is just out of view in the picture (incase this matters). We arn't about to build this for another few years so we don't want to bother a professional with an estimate, but would still like an idea of what to expect.

I would like to sew some things, like curtans, (find me a pattern please!) and pillows i don't have a pattern for that ether! what are some other things that i can ether make, or buy it cheap, and i am going to hang pictures of us on the walls, and i'm going to make some paitings with the colores of our room. some decorating advice please, i can't really get any more furnature, there won't be much floor space, but i would just like some decorating advice, and i havn't gottan a comforter yet so ideas on that too please. thatnks!

I need help decorating my new Teen room (P.S. i am a male)??? Any tips?? Thanks heaps, Ethan

We arn't about to build this for another few years so we don't want to bother a professional with an estimate, but would still like an idea of what to expect.
please read this story i wrote. By a 6th grader? Hollywood Troubles “Hhhhh, Julia sighed. It’s just another day, another ordinary day” Julia Lintheart was staring out her window, looking at the warm summer day. There were blue skies, green grass, you’d think it be perfect. But no. She was in a dismal mood. “Why should I be the only one not having fun? She thought to herself. “It’s just not fair”. Julia sighed once again as she stroked her long brown hair that draped around her right shoulder with her soft, pale hands. Julia was mad because she was the only one who hadn’t done adventurous over the summer. Time was running out only 3 weeks before the 9th grade. She had to something that she could remember the 8th grade summer by and something everyone else would remember her, Julia, by. Julia went downstairs into the kitchen of her medium sized home. The kitchen was a light tan color, with oak wood cabinets. There was a stainless steel oven, dishwasher and microwave. Her mother was loading dishes into the dishwasher as she came downstairs. “Well, we have to go pick up your little sister Rose from her friend, Lavender’s house”, her mother replied holding a white plate. “Do I have to come? Why can’t I say home with Dad? Er, wait Dad’s never home”, Julia said in a quiet tone, “He’s always on some tour, I just keep forgetting. “ As a rookie film producer he is very busy, but he’s quite good at it. He seems to have a knack for it. “I know, but it’s been two whole months. Sometimes I just wish he could come home. “We all do, Jules”, he mother said wiping her hands on the white towel. Was this remark supposed to make her feel better? Because she didn’t feel any better. In fact she felt sadder. ”Anyway, Julia you have to come.” “Why can’t I stay home? I’m old enough”, Julia inquired. “I know Julia but you have to go shopping you need clothes for fall. In case you are wondering Julia had already bought clothes for the winter last week. Julia wanted to roll her blue eyes but kept herself from doing so. Instead she said “whats wrong with the clothes I have”, glancing down at her dark blue jeans and her ABERCROMBIE t-shirt. Almost instantaneously her obsessive-shopping mother answered. “Your jeans are ripped, they’re too old and--- Julia cut her mother off. “Old. What do you mean old! 3 weeks ago, that’s old”! “Julia you are going shopping and that’s final”, her mother replied in a stern voice. Julia groaned. “When are we going?” “Half an hour” she answered. Julia went back up the spiral stair case and into her bedroom. Her bedroom was a light blue color. There was a twin sized bedroom that was right in the middle of her room. She walked on the soft carpet of her bedroom. She layed on her tootsie roll pillow. A raindrop fell on her window. It started to sprinkle outside. The blue skies turned gray. Julia didn’t know what to do. “Jules come on 1et’s go”, her mother called putting on her black trench coat. Julia dragged her feet down the steps. She went to the entrance hall of her home. She put her tennis shoes on and grabbed the black umbrella. Julia and her mother walked out the front door , and hopped into the silver minivan. Her mother backed out of the drive way. “Julia?” Her mother asked. “Yeah”, she answered. Mrs. Lintheart took a deep breath. “I-I just got off the”, she faltered. How do I put this nicely”? Julia, I just got off the phone with dad. We’re moving”. ~CHAPTER 2~ A million questions raced through her mind. Where are we moving? When are leaving? Why are we going? What are my friends going to think? “I’m sorry”, Mrs. Lintheart said apologetically. Julia didn’t know why he mother was so sorry. She wasn’t so mad herself. “Should I be mad”? She asked her mother. “No. Not at all, I just didn’t know how you were going to react”, she answered turning around a curb. “Where are we going?” Julia asked rather excited. “Hollywood”, her mother replied. Julia’s eyes widened and her jaw dropped. “What did you say?” “Well”, Mrs. Lintheart started. Your father has a role opening, and he needs a girl about your age. If you get it were staying at least till the movie is over. If you don’t we’re going to keep your father company. At this point Julia stopped listening. She didn’t need to be told anything more. She knew where this conversation was going. “So does this mean I get to be a star”? She asked being her curious self. “Actually no. You have to complete the auditions first.” She said adjusting her rearview mirror. Julia was a bit disappointed but was determined. They pulled into a driveway. “Oh and Jules, it’s best not to tell Rose about this”. The rain fell harder by the second. Julia sighed once again, but this time a good sigh. A sigh that meant I’m ready. Ready to be a star. She could picture herself. A millionaire, being pampered, and having the best life ever. Julia opened the car door. She opened the umbrella. They walked up the long driveway and rang the doorbell. Ding-Dong. A tall looking mother opened the door. Julia gaped at the sight of the house. From the outside you’d think it was a normal house, but it wasn’t. The foyer was huge. It had a ceiling so high it seemed like it was endless. There was a bright chandelier that came down almost blinding to the naked eye. The walls had a light gold design. “Oh my”, the tall women said pointing to the window. “It looks terrible out there”. “I know some weather”, Julia’s mother agreed. “Mom, mom, mom”, came Lavendar, Rose’s best friend. “Can Rose stay a bit longer?” “Only if it’s O.K with Rose’s mother”, Lavendar’s mother said with a chuckle. Julia glanced up at her mothers and gave her one of her I-don’t-want-to-stay-at-a-6 year old-house looks. Mrs. Lintheart patted Julia on her shoulder and smiled. One of her only-for-tonight-smiles. Perfect, Julia thought. I am wasting my time at a 6 year olds house. As Lavendar and Rose chatted away Mrs. Anderson (Lavendar’s mom) offered Julia and her mother some tea or coffee. They both politely refused by saying “no thank you”. The 3 went into the living room. Julia had already adjusted to the Anderson’s immense house but that did not change the fact that it was huge. In the living room the walls were a deep reddish-maroon color. There was a 72 inch plasma screen that stood there ready to be used. “Why don’t you have a seat”, Mrs. Anderson told Julia. “oh wait, would you rather go to home theater?” Julia smiled. “Oh that won’t be necessary”, Julia’s mother answering for her. Julia reluctantly gave a slight nod of her head. “Mom, why would you say something like that? Of course, I would rather watch a movie than listen to adults talk, she thought to herself. Julia was mad at her mother. “Oh well, she while thinking of all her unanswered questions. At 6:30 pm Julia’s mother decided that it was time to go home. “Lavendar, Rose” Mrs. Anderson called from the bottom of the deep blue colored carpet. They came sprinting down the steps. “Mommy”, I don’t want Rose to leave, Lavendar whined. “I’m afraid they’ve got to”, Mrs. Anderson said. She opened the door. By this time it was raining very hard. BOOM, they heard thunder. They saw a flash it was lightening. “Whoa”, Rose said. “It doesn’t seem to safe out there, you’re welcome to stay with us for the night”, Mrs. Anderson offered. “OH thank you we don’t have much of a choice, really” Mrs. Lintheart said. Julia couldn’t believe her ears. Was this really happening? No. No way. Not if she could help it. Julia gave her mother another one of her “looks”. Her mother gave her one of her “smiles”. “Only for tonight”, she added just in case Julia couldn’t understand her smile. “Ughhhhhh”, Julia thought in her mind. All this time Julia was trying to focus on the positive. O.k. I said trying. Lavendar was talking to Rose about how they have so many rooms, so they could sleep. The five went to the living room and turned the 72 inch television on to the weather channel. “We are looking at severe thunderstorms throughout the Chicago area”, the reporter announced. Julia would rather walk home in the rain than stay. She went upstairs with the adults and overheard that Rose would be sleeping in Lavendar’s bedroom and Julia and her mother would be staying in one of the three guest bedrooms. Mrs. Anderson showed them there room. It was like all the other rooms. Big. As you have probably comprehended by now Julia must dread in despair through the night. Fine. O.K. Well, I guess it’s not that bad. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter ehat you and I think, it’s up to Julia. I just write it down. They went back down stairs. “Oh dear”, Mrs. Anderson said looking directly at Rose. You must be starving. Do you want to eat something? “No, I’m not hungry; Rose replied in her high pitched voice, I want to play with Lavendar. Lavendar followed by Rose then Julia, and then the adults into the playroom. The playroom had a mini ball pit, a play slide, and lots of books mainly fairy tales. Ii also had pink and white striped walls. The grown-ups laughed and smiled. Suddenly the lights went out. It was pitch black. ~CHAPTER 3~ Mrs. Anderson could find her path through the criss-crossing hallway, down the steps, and into the room that contained the flashlight. She pressed the on button and a yellow beam of color shot out. The silver flashlight illuminated everything in its way. Anita Anderson walked up the steps, back through the criss-crossing, and into the playroom. As she entered the playroom she noticed two little bodies curled up on the play mats. Their eyes were shut tight and you could hear snoring. Mrs. Lintheart whispered something into Mrs. Anderson’s ear. Instantaneously, Anita walked out of the room and then came back in. Her arms were full of multi-colored sleeping bags. Julia was furious at once but kept her anger to herself. She wanted to atleast sleep on the bed. Julia’s mother helped unroll each of the five different color sleeping bags. Julia slipped into her red one , taking off her sweatshirt and placing it beside her. Julia had to admit she was a bit tired, although it was only 15 past eight. She closed her eyes, adjusted her pillow, and fell off into a deep sleep. She dreamt of pleasant dreams. “Hollywood”, she quietly murmured in her sleep. She was picturing herself getting the part, becoming a millionaire…you get the rest. The rest of her dreams were put to an end by the voice of her mother. “Juls”, she said quietly standing next to Julia. Time to get up” Julia rubbed her eyes, and stretched her legs as she sat up straight in her “bag”. She walked out yawning. She rolled it up into a neat ball. Julia realized that there were four empty sleeping bags beside her. She picked up her sleeping bag and followed her mother downstairs. She was to drowsy to speak. Lavendar and Rose were making a loud din chasing each other around the kitchen. Julia could smell the aroma of fresh blueberry pancakes being made. Julia loved pancakes. She sat down at the large maple wood table as two pancakes were placed in front of her. She was starving so she devoured them, but in a neat way. * * * * * * * * * ~Later that evening~ Julia had gotten back to her home. Julia was wondering what the auditions were going to be like and what she had to do to get the part. “Briing, briiiing”, the phone rang. She ran into the master bedroom and picked up the black phone. “Hello”, Julia called into the phone. “Juls, is that you?”, her dad asked “Yeah it’s me”, she said puzzled. “Who are you”? “Your daddy”, her dad replied. Julia gasped at these words. She couldn’t even recognize he fathers voice. He was touring Spain for ideas. “ Hi”. “ Honey, your just the person I wanted to talk to. I bet your mother has already told you about”, he paused. “Hollywood”, Julia finished for him squirming with joy. Her dad took a deep breath. “Um er about that, we need a girl for the part”, he started talking faster as he went along. Youre perfect for the part. I asked the producer and he said maybe. He aslso said that me being the director can’t do with anything with you getting the part. Anyway, you still have to audition a couple of lines. There aren’t many people competing for it. 16 including you to be exact. But you don’t have to move to Hollywood, you don’t even have to try out for the part if you don’t want to. “Dad, Julia started. I want to do everything you just mentioned. I want to move, get the part and become rich.“Just one question. What’s it about?” “Ah”, can’t tell you. “Huh”?, Julia asked baffled. “Show biz policy. You have exactly 24 hours to rehearse for the auditions. Julia gawked. “ So you are saying that I have 1 day practice”? “That’s right”, he answered casually. Then everything got quiet. A mysterious quiet. A chilling quiet. “Julia”, he whispered. Then he hung up. ~CHAPTER 4~ Julia pressed the round black button to off the phone. “What was that all about”? she wondered. She had so much to get ready for. Could she do it? Julia had no idea what the movie was about. Julia walked into the family room. It had two beige colored couches and a T.Vimon. She found Rose watching Bob the Builder. IT had just started so the theme song was playing. “Bob the Builder. Can he fix it? The T.V yelled. “Bob the builder. Yes he can!! Rose chimed in. “Rose, can I please watch now”? Julia asked as she turned her head away from the obnoxious show. “Nope”, Rose replied with her eyes still glue to the television. Julia didn’t bother arguing with her younger sister. So, she went upstairs to her bedroom and got out her pink cell phone. She called her two best friends Ally, and Nicole cell. Ally is a long haired blonde who loved nothing more than a good old adventure. Julia and Ally were alike because they both liked an adventure, but Ally was far more daring. I guess you could call her a risk taker. “Hey ally”, Julia called into the phone “ It’s Julia”. “Oh hey” Ally said. “Over the last few days I heard really big news. You know how my dad’s a film director and all”, Julia asked. “Yeah”, Ally replied wondering why her best friend was telling her something she already knew. “They have a part open, and I’m auditioning”, Julia squeaked. The two of them screamed with excitement. “When are you going”? Ally asked unable control her curiosity. “3 weeks, I could try to invite you. If you’d like”, she added. There was a slight pause in which Ally was thinking. Thinking about the “movie”. Was this really going to happen? “3 weeks”, she repeated. You do know what’s happening in 3 weeks, right? Julia was stunned. Here she was telling Ally the best news of her life so far but all she could about was school! “School, so”, Julia asked. “I can’t skip school”, Ally said rather mean. “I’m sorry, I am not trying to brag or anything”, Julia said. “I know”, Ally said back in her soft voice. “Bye”, Julia said. “Bye”, Ally said. Julia lied against her tootsie roll pillow. She looked out of her window. There was little light still shinning through them. Julia called Nicole. Nicole was the least adventurous. Unlike Julia and Ally, Nicole preferred to be “out of danger”. She liked adventures but if there was a slim chance of her getting in trouble she was out. Somehow she had always been dragged along. She was ind of short compared to the others, and had short brown hair. They continued their conversation for a while. This time it had gone much smoother. ~CHAPTER 5~ Days turned into weeks of boredom. One week until the big move. Ally invited Nicole and Julia over to her house. They greeted each other at the crisp white door. They went to Ally’s room. IT was messy. Clothes were on the ground along with her CD’s of her favorite bands: Daughtry and Maroon 5. There were school books scattered here and there. IN conclusion it was messy. Ally cleared a spot on the colorful bed and motioned for the two of them to sit down. “So Juls” Nicole started. “When’s the audition”? “One week”, Julia said. Nicole and Ally looked at each other and nodded their heads. “What”? Julia asked. “ We are going to get you ready for the movie in case you get the part”, Ally said. “We are? Nicole asked. What about the other thing”? “What other thing”, Julia said with a confused look on her face. “ We can do that later”, Ally suggested ignoring Julia’s question. Ally is more of a tomboy as you probably have figured out by now. After you read what’s next you will be surprised. “Wear these”, Ally told holding out a pair of silver sparkly high heels. “Why do I need these”, Julia said scared. Not a scared-scared but a scared-to-wear-high-heels-shoes-scared. “ Are you sure we won’t get in trouble, because I doubt those are your shoes, no offense Ally”, Nicole asked being her worried self. “Relax”, Ally said ignoring Julia’s question once again. Julia put the shoes on her feet. She started to wobble. She took two steps without falling and the third she fell to the ground with a thunk. “Ow”, Julia yelled. She had twisted her ankle. It wasn’t that bad but it still hurt. “Bad idea. Are you O.K? ” ally asked. “I knew something like this was going to happen. Are you O.K Juls? I am sooooooooo sorry. Nicole started to mumbled a few more words. “I’m fine”, Julia lied because it still hurt but her worrying friend went on. Ally apologized to Julia for making her wear the high heels although Julia knew that it was the clothes on the messy floor that made her trip not the shoes. * * * * * * * * One week had gone by like that. Back at the Lintheart’s Rose was throwing a fit after Mrs. Lintheheart explained where and why they were moving. “It’s not fair. It’s not fair at all. Why does she get everything she wants? It’s not fair”, Rose pouted stomping her tiny feet on the ground. “Now Rose be patient, her mother started, you’ll get turn. “I don’t want to be patient”, Rose said angrily. Julia came downstairs with her suitcase. They had packed earlier and were on there way. They piled into the silver minivan. When they arrived at the airport they waited. If you have a younger sibling and are going somewhere you probably know how it is. They create a scene, then a million pair of eyes look your way and well, you get humiliated. That’s exactly what Rose did. So I am not going to waste my time and your time describing the humiliation of Julia. They boarded the plane. The plane was quite small, but it had comfortable seats. The windows were shaped rectangles. Rose got the window seat, her mother was in the middle, and Julia got the aisle seat. As soon as Julia sat down she fell asleep. “Jules”, Mrs. Lintheart whispered. Julia’s eyes slightly opened then closed again. “Jules”, Mrs. Lintheart said a little louder. Nothing. “JULIA”, Rose screamed at the top of her lungs. Julia abruptly opened her eyes. She looked around the rest of the plane was empty. “We’re here, Mrs. Lintheart announced, in Hollywood”. ~CHAPTER 7~ They checked their luggage in. The people there were all very well-dressed. IT was mainly adults who were walking through the long lines. “Right outside this airport is Hollywood”, Julia whispered to Rose. “Just a few more minutes, Julia, Mrs. Lintheart explained. Then we will go by taxi to our hotel. “What’s our hotel like”? Rose asked her mother. Well, it’s called Hollywood Orchid Suites. It’s not too fancy but it is expensive, her mother replied as the three of them walked towards the door. We have been given the deluxe suite. Julia wasn’t listening she kept walking with her eyes focused on the door. Julia swung it open. There was a giant hill with HOLLYWOOD printed on it in big white letters. All three of the faces smiled. There was also a busy road making not too hard to find a taxi cab. They hopped in the bright yellow cab. “Where to”? The cab driver asked in his deep-commercial-like voice. “The Hollywood Orchid Suite”, Rose said in her high pitched voice answering for her mother. He driver dropped them off and waved goodbye. Mrs. Lintheart led the way inside while Rose took her time skipping and twirling in her ridiculously pink blouse and her pink sparkly shirt to match. They walked into the lobby. “ Who might you be”, the guy behind the counter asked Rose. “My name is Rose Lintheart”, Rose answered. “Lintheart eh”, the guy behind the counter said as he started to type something in the computer. “Ah yes, you will be staying in suite #339. Enjoy your stay”, he added as they started to walk away. Julia twisted the knob of suite #339. It wouldn’t budge. “You have to use the key card silly”, Rose said twirling. Julia didn’t remember Rose getting the key card from the guy behind the counter. Anyway, Julia slid the card inside and waited for the small green light to come up. She opened the door and walked inside. The room was cool. Two king sized beds, two T.V’s and a bathroom. On one of the beds they found a note. Julia read it aloud. Dear Julia Lintheart, We would like to inform you that your audition will take place tomorrow at Hollywood Studios. Be there no later than 12:00 pm. Your lines are attached to this note. Good Luck. “What else does it say?” Mrs. Lintheart asked. Your Lines You: Mom I’m bored. (say in a whiny voice) Mom: We have to go pick up your sister then go to the mall. You: Again? I hate going there. Mom: We need clothes for fall. You: Don’t I need clothes for winter first? Mom: We got those last week. Julia practiced with her mother. She stumble on every other word. “What was that”, Rose said being mean. Julia shot her a nasty look. “I’m just saying, Rose continued, that you acted better at Lavendar’s house”. “What are you talking about”? Julia asked, as if Rose was crazy. “You acted as if you hated going to Lavendar’s house when you enjoyed it. You pretended to be mad but you had nothing better to do. Julia knew that she was partially correct. Fine, Julia knew she was a hundred percent correct, but she still acted like Rose was crazy. “Why don’t you try again, Julia”, Mrs. Lintheart said trying to break the tension between the two sisters. Julia tried again and got it almost perfect. “What’s this”, Rose said pointing to the piece of paper with the lines on it. Julia took the piece of paper out of Rose’s hands. She looked at it carefully, there was another verse of lines. Do I have to recite these lines too, she thought to herself. The lines were sad. They were about girl who finds her long lost mother. “Let’s practice these too”, Julia told her mother. They practiced. There was crying scene that Julia just couldn’t get right. “Try thinking of something sad”, Rose said. Julia took this advice. She thought and thought but couldn’t find anything sad. Julia finally got something from her own life. Her dad. It seemed so long since Julia had seen him. Tears welled up in her eyes. “Mom, when will we see dad”? “If you get the part soon enough, if you don’t we could still visit him on set, but we’d have to notify him first”. Julia had a mission. The same mission as before (to get the part) but for a different reason. She longed to see her father. ~CHAPTER 8~ She slept through the night. She was ready, only half an hour till auditions. She was given an outfit to wear (provided by Hollywood Studios). It was a light blue baby doll top with black leggings. The lobby was big and grand. I do not know how to describe it other than the simple words big and grand. They went through the double doors and outside. They fetched a cab and rode on the busy streets of Hollywood. They pulled into the parking lot of Hollywood Studio. They walked inside and saw 15 other girls waiting to audition. Since she was the last audition, she saw some girls coming out crying, and others expressionless. It had black floors and there were three judges. There was also a person next to her that acted like the mom. The judges explained that she could choose either of the two verses to audition. Julia considered this thought very carefully. At the end she decided that she would choose the mall one because she practiced it more and she could relate to it better. Julia had butterflies in her stomach. She spoke clearly, and said the words with emotion. Julia felt a bit better. She thought that she had nailed the audition, but only time would tell if she got the part. She waited in the room along with the other girls. She was nervous. The main judge came out. He cleared his throat, “The winner who gets the part is Julia Lintheart.” Julia gasped. “Me”, Julia said scarcely believing what she just heard. Julia ran over her mother and gave her a hug. “Rose, thanks for your advice it really worked, and I knew you were right all along”, Julia told her sister. Julia felt like this was too good to be true. She had accomplished her mission, but still so many unanswered questions. Little did Julia realize that this was only the beginning.
Do you like my novel so far? This is chapter one. Suggesting/ideas/comments/critique appreciated! =] I Our navy blue van pulled up to an unfamiliar driveway. “We’re here!” my mom exclaimed enthusiasticly. Kyle and I groaned. Our new house was much bigger than our old one. Red bricks covered the sturdy walls, and four beautiful windows were visible at the front. The porch was fairly small, but still decent looking. Tall, black street lights stood everywhere, and even though it was 4pm no one was outside. In my former neighbourhood, old ladies sat on wooden benches placed on their porch, kids ran around playing hopscotch, and families went on walks with their dogs. This seemed like an abandoned street. And although it did not look spooky, chills ran down my spine at the sight of our new house. Relieved that I didn’t have to go to school today I stepped out of the car and began helping my parents unpack. “Go pick your rooms if you want, you can help us unpack later” my dad said cheerfully. As soon as the words slipped out of his mouth Kyle dashed in to the house. I quickly followed, hoping that he wouldn’t choose the best looking room before I got even a glimpse of it. I hesitated before opening the sturdy front door. After standing in the doorway for a minute or two, probably looking like an idiot, I viciously twisted the door knob, and peeked inside the house. It was better than I expected. A long hallway, and spiral staircase stood before me. I couldn’t help but smile. It just looked so fasinating on the inside. I’m not living in a fairytale, no need to get my hopes up, I told myself sternly. Climbing up the staircase I noticed Kyle in his new room. It was farthest away from the master bedroom, no surprise there. I guess that leaves me with the other room… I peeked inside. A wide grin spread across my face. The view was astounding. There were two large windows, with sparkly maroon and gold curtains. The walls were painted a soft magenta, and the carpet was a light shade of silver. Somehow, the colours suited me perfectly. An unexpected déjà vu feeling spread inside of me. Wait… this looked almost exactly like my old bedroom! Wow. Didn’t see that one coming. “Mind helping us unpack now?” my mom yelled from downstairs, distracting all of my thoughts. I didn’t want to leave my precious room for a second, it felt like the only memory of my previous home that I had left. I gathered the strength to pick myself up, and drag my legs downstairs. My mom and dad were running around the house, carefully placing marked boxes that said things like China. Be CAREFUL!, or Kyle's CDs. Mom has always been an organization freak. I think that's why she was so happy to move in the first place. Because our old house had gotten so full of junk, and so cluttered that she just wanted to be rid of it, and start over. As for me, this meant a whole new beginning. Not only with the house, but also with the people. Grabbing my heavy suitcase full of clothes, shoes, and who-knows-what, I struggled to get it back upstairs. It had to be at least thirty pounds, maybe even fourty. “Need a little help?” Kyle asked, grinning at my pathetic attempt to carry the heavy load. “No, I’m fine” I said, rolling my eyes at him. Kyle had to leave his popularity behind when we left. But I was almost certain that he’d get it back in no time. It was hard on him, but he was finally smiling again. He always blamed me, even though my parents moved because they needed it. It was either dad transferred to L.A or he was fired, and we couldn't afford that right now. Once I finally got to the top of the stairs, I put my suitcase in my room, and sighed with relief. Glad that’s over with. Now, to move on to more important things… just as I was about to get my iPod out of the suitcase, the doorbell abruptly rang. “Kyle, Emma get down here! I think we have guests!” my mom said excidetly. Annoyed as I was, I didn’t want some stupid new neighbours coming over for dinner. My mom opened the door to an overly cheery woman with light brown hair and a big smile on her face. The woman greeted us, practically yelling “Hello! Welcome to the neighborhood!” She reminded me of the “littles” from Stuart Little. Cute movie. Kyle, and I stared at eachother, trying not to break out laughing. Her husband, I assumed, walked up behind her. He was the picture of a the abused housewife, as he almost hid behind his wife. A little boy walked between the two and stood in front of his mother. “My name is Jane Jackson, this is my son Colton, and his father, Jack. We also have a 16 year old daughter, Julia” I looked at Kyle again. I mouthed Jack Jackson to him. He smiled. “Emma, you and Julia are the same age! I’m sure you’d become great friends.” Mom said eagerly. I sighed, ignoring my mom’s enthusiasm. I wasn’t looking forward to making friends. It seemed so easy when my brother did it, but when I tried to be nice to people, they stared at me as if I had two heads. Colton slowly came up to us, and said, “Hello. My name is Colton. I'm a boy. I like Tarzan. I always wished my dad's name was Tarzan and then it would be Tarzan and Jane. I even asked my mama to name me Tantar but she said that I already had a name.” I couldn't hold it in, and neither could Kyle. We burst out laughing. “I’m sorry about them” I heard my dad say, looking at us with his when-they’re-gone-you’re-gonna-get-it glare at me and Kyle. I bent down, smiling at Colton. “It's okay to like a name like Tantar, but you should stick with your own name.” He nodded, frowning. “Well, I'd say we've taken up enough of your time.” Jane said. “Perhaps we can get together another time.” She smiled at us. Jack hadn't said a word the whole time. “Bye!” Colton called, walking out the door. “Thanks for coming.” Dad replied, closing the door behind them. Not wanting to talk to my family, or get lectured from dad, I walked up the stairs and closed my door tightly. Looked like I wouldn't be getting dinner tonight. o.o I'm not 11.... LOL!
Chapter 1, What do you think? Chapter 1: I heard Sarah yelling "Hey N'Cole"! I didn't really like Sarah but she was a good friend and who doesn't need a good friend. Summer had just ended and it was time to listen to Sarah ramble on and on about her summer full of romance and passion. This rambling usually only lasted a week or so. That is until someone new showed up. See Sarah is that girl who isn't gorgeous but isn't ugly either. She is very desirable due to her amazing personality. I mean when it comes down to it Sarah isn't so bad and I do like her it's just sometimes I find myself jealous of her and I hate it and end up hating her for it. "N'Cole, N'Cole" "I have the most amazing story to tell you" "Oh here we go again with the stories, Sarah it's always the same story with a different guy, why don't we just save sometime and tell me his name I remember the story"! Oh boy do I remember those stories. Her family goes away for the summer every your and every year it's somewhere new. How do they afford that you ask? Well its simple her dad Frank owns his own business buying people's ideas. My favorite idea he bought was the digital picture frame. Apparently some young teen needed a quick buck and got paid $150 dollars for the rights. It's a shame for the kid since the digital frames run no less than $150 brand new. Luckily for me I got one for free. As for my favorite story Sarah has told me. It all happened the summer they went to Hawaii and she fell in love or so she calls it love. Not with the cute beach guy but the towel boy at her hotel. If I remember correctly she met John or maybe it was Jay, (No it was John) from returning her pool towel. John had some questionable story about getting hit by a car and was thus stuck being a towel boy. Well Sarah being Sarah thought he was cute and agreed to see him while she was there. They met up on the beach way late at night, held hands, and walked all through out the beach. She said "It had been the most romantic thing ever!" Although personally I find water to always make a romantic setting. I don't find a late night Ronde-Vu with the towel boy to be romantic. They didn't work out, her summer flings never did. That was always her choice and a wise choice at that. The thing about this story that made it my favorite was that on her last night at the hotel Mr.Towelboy thought he was going to get lucky. Even though I find Sarah over uses the word love she at least has some morals I can agree with. The "No Sex" policy is one of my favorites. Well not only did he make the mistake of trying to get lucky he tried to do it in a hammock. Apparently getting shoved out of a hammock may lead to a broken arm and in the case of John a broken ego as well. That annoying, leave your ears ringing, bell for class rang. "That's the bell I don't want to be late on the first day see you at lunch N'Cole" Our first year of school here at Broken Ridge High School as freshmen we had all but one class together. Being good friends + having the same class=cheating and too much of each other. So from sophomore year on we chose not to take a class together if possible, not having the same class really made us value out time together more, as for the cheating well sometimes you just have to. I shut my very ugly purple locker, looked down the hall, and began my walk to 1st hour. First period wasn't so bad I really did like the idea of psychology. The things you can discover and recover my only thing is that if your mind doesn't remember it, it must not be that important or maybe you forgot it for a reason. Well my five other classes were boring as usual except my final class English. I just love English it has always been on top of my favorite's list, but this year my teacher made it out like it is going to be my best year of English ever. I am not a big fan of writing and it looks like we are going to be doing a lot of it this year. Mrs. Cromwell my English teacher gave us a list of supplies and five 100 page notebooks was first on that list followed by 1 binder, dividers, pens, pencils and 10 packs of filler paper. With all those supplies I can only see large amounts of essays and papers in my future. All throughout the day I would turn left or turn right and I was always catching someone in a stare and before I could even say “Hi” or even acknowledge them they would turn away. Sarah offered to give me a ride home from school and I gladly accepted seeing how my truck was in the shop and would be there for a while since the accident. Although I don't care too much as to what people think about me, riding a bus full of smelly freshmen guys as a senior just isn't too highly looked upon. One thing you notice when driving through Broken Ridge is that the houses are all very small one to three bedroom one floor homes. The house's may all be small but not one looks the same and you never know what will be in someone's front yard. I vividly remember last year the Brooklyn boys got a hold of Mr. Larks chicken and had tied him up by the foot to a steak in the ground. That chicken squawked uncontrollably and if I remember right they were using it as bait to catch a dinosaur like off of Jurassic Park since they couldn't find a goat. Finally we pulled into my driveway. Sarah love's coming over and I think it's because my house is the one exception to the one story small home usual out here. Now don't get me wrong I love my home but it's not exactly the first thing you think of when you hear five bedroom three bathroom home. The old wooden house could use some paint and our lawn could use some tending but I just keep procrastinating. One thing I do truly love is the big oak tree out front I used to climb to get to my secret spy station. There are still probably melted peach rings on the high branches from me trying to catch them in my mouth but unfortunately they always seemed to go up too high. I was about to shut the door to Sarah's very cute Toyota corolla (?) when she stopped me saying. "Hey do you want to pick up our school stuff tonight"? "Sure thing Sarah" "Alright I'll be back here in a couple of hours when I finish dinner". I shut the door and walked all the way up my driveway listening to the gravel crunch under my feet to the front door. Opening the door to my house and looking in all you can see is out living room to the left with our medium sized T.V. and the mix matched couches. If you look right you can see out kitchen. It isn't in the best shape but it isn't so bad. Since my mom left when I was nine I've had to step up my cooking skills. My dear old dad couldn't melt butter if his life depended on it. I grabbed an apple from the fridge, pretzels from the pantry, and headed up the stairs past the guest room with a bathroom for the guests we never had. I climbed the wretched stairs everyday but occasionally I saved sometime and would just fall down them. My dad was never much of a decorator that was usually my mother's job and when she left she took everything from their room. Leaving my dad with a queen bed, brown bedding, his mom's antique armoire, and a "15 Inch" Television he always leaves on when he sleeps. I tend to be a late night; don't need much sleep kind of girl so I usually turn it off for him. At the end of the hall there are two doors one to your left and one to the right. To the left will lead to what was going to be my brothers or sisters rooms if they ever had anymore children. Fortunately for me that didn't end up happening. Since my mother left my dad gave me free will with the house. I decide to use that freewill to turn these two medium sized rooms into one very large library office combo. Of course I had to take down a wall and let me tell you it’s not as easy as it sounds. You have to do more than take a sledge hammer to a wall. Even though it was harder than I had planned it was worth it. This room is my favorite room and my second favorite place to be. Part of the reason it’s my favorite is for the mere fact that I have spent so many endless hours dedicated to this room. I took down my old spy station and used the planks to build the bookshelves that go from floor to ceiling. Since there wasn't enough wood from my station my dad volunteered to bring me some wood home from work at the wood, rock, and tree store. This if I say so is the best one in State. He also helped me put them together and align them seeing as my eye sight isn't so great. My mother and I were never close and when she left she said "Good-Bye and left." Before she could leave I'd asked her to let me have her books seeing as our love and passion for books was the only thing we had in common. She delightfully left them in my possession saying "Books are people, the lives they lived, and their most interworkings so take care of them as if they were your family and friends. Know that when you look at someone they are just a story waiting to be written.” Those were her last words to me so I guess it comes as no surprise that she left to California to become an author. It's her books that started filling the wraparound bookshelves but it is my books that will complete them. In one corner is a desk with a computer and printer centered on it, a filing cabinet is to the left filled with my elementary paintings, old pictures, and my high school papers. In the center of the room there are two very ugly couches that I reupholstered, a lounge chair I bought from the Broken Ridge community garage sale for $10 dollars. Smack dab in the middle of the seating is a fake fire place I built. It's some big rocks around a cut up tree branch with orange, yellow, and red construction paper cut out to look like flames. I guess you could say I am a pretty resourceful, independent, creative girl with a whole lot of free time. Going through the right door would enter into my room. What a glorious room it is. My room is all about me. The things I love like my pet fish. All ten of my exotic fish make up the 40 gallon tank lining up against one wall. On the other wall is my closet filled with old trophies, random boxes full of meaningless stuff I can't seem to get rid of, and my very small collection of clothes. In the center of the room lays my prized possession the master of all queen waterbeds. Hopping on my bed I rolled over and fell asleep.
Is my story good? I want to be a writer but I'm scared my stories are dumb, also, they are kinda short to be a novel, and i have a website for people that have stories or poems and want people to read them, u can email them and I'll post them : freewebs.com/stories2share thanks! Survive This is my newest short story, I hope you enjoy it! Also, I like writing action-y weird stories, but don't think I'm some disturbed-weird person because I like watching action, thriller and scary movies and they give me new ideas for stories. lol Part 1 The music was blaring. Everybody swayed to the beat of the music and some people danced. Blue disposable cups swarmed over every surface possible in the main rooms people were in: the living and family room, the basement, and the loft. Amanda ran upstairs to find her friend in the master suite bathroom, the birthday boy, Eric, talking to some girl. It was his sixteenth birthday party, his birthday really was a few weeks ago, but they had to have the party this late. She swung open the door when she heard his voice; Eric holding some large bottle, drinking it, but she couldn't tell what it was until he moved his arm and it said " Tequila" and some fancy name underneath. "Eric." She said through her teeth, "what is that you are drinking?" "Something," he replied. "Eric, why are you drinking? Beer is ONE thing, but tequila is another! You know you have to drive me home tonight! Put it down!" She glared at him, then slammed the door. Amanda tromped down the stairs, avoiding the dancing people and ran out the door. She got outside and sat on the bench, she dialed Sam's number and waited for her to answer. "Hi Sam!" She shouted over the loud music in the background. Sam was in the house at the party too, but Amanda didn't feel like searching for her since she was really stressed out. She said hi too, when Amanda and heard her swallowing something and wondered if she was drinking too. Ignoring it she said "I found Eric drinking something. Alcohol. So what do you think of that?" "It's really not that big of a deal, everybody drinks Amanda. Lots of kids snuck them from Eric's parent's bar." Sam said. "I don't care! I know I might be sounding corny to you Sam but we are underaged and we have to drive home! And if we get caught, half of us don't even have our licenses, only our permits..." after she said that, Amanda closed her phone. She marched right over to the front door and made the biggest entrance she could make. Amanda searched the whole house and found thirteen people drinking, and snatched their bottles and dumped the drinks down the drain. After that, she filled them all at different levels as before with water, luckily they were all dark bottles so you couldn't really tell about colors. Oh, the suprise the kids will get when they try drinking it again, but then again, what about Eric's parents? Oh well, the kids had to drive back, and I don't want anybody to get hurt... She met with all of her friends in the backyard around 10:30. She saw Eric come through the backdoor with a bottle again, and was drinking it. He was so drunk, he couldn't even tell he was drinking water! "Why did you take our drinks Amanda? " Eric said, "You know, like everybody is so mad at you." Then they started talking about how they were going to hunt her down and beat her up...? "I can't believe you." She mumbled under her breath. They couldn't hear her, but even if they could like, they would even remember it. Then, everyone started talking to each other with their hand in front of their face like they didn't want Amanda to hear, and then snatched her cup of punch and hid behind the bushes. "You guys are acting so childish!" she yelled. Then they came back. "We SWEAR we didn't do anything to your cup." Eric said. She asked "Then why did they take it in the first place!" But like she really believed that they didn't do anything to it. They kept getting closer to her and said "Drink it! Drink it!". If she told them she knew they did something to it, then they would be mad at her, and then they'd say she didn't trust them. Only one cup of stuff she told herself, one BIG cup of stuff. She couldn't decide, what would my parents think? But that was later and this is now, my friends in my face. She felt every second tick by. Amanda picked up the cup from Sam's hand, and drank it. She knew her parents would be really mad at her. After that, she really couldn't decide whether or not she was their friends anymore for what they did to her. Part 2 Next, she went to the park with her friends. Marc, Eric and Hannah rode in Marc's car, and Sam and Amanda walked. she insisted they didn't put one foot in the car after drinking, but thankfully they made it in one piece. Marc and Hannah sat on the end of the double-seated slide. The rest of them sat on the ground . "So what do you think our parents will do when they see us like this?" Amanda asked. "You mean if they see us," Eric said. Amanda sort of did a glare at him, and shouted "It's your faults! You drank, and snuck liquor in my punch!!!" even though she knew she still chose to drink it knowing they did something to it. Luckily, when Eric passed out then, he was sitting down already. You pig, she thought. Everybody knew Eric drank the most out of all of them. When they were talking again, Hannah passed out in the middle of a sentence. Sam and Marc started arguing until Sam punched Marc in the face and he was knocked out. "Just you and me now Amanda" Sam said, "Amanda, what do we do now? I mean look at all of us..." There was a long pause. "Well, I give up." Amanda said to Sam, and layed on the soft grass, then looked over at her, but she was already curled up too on the ground, sound asleep. When Amanda woke up, she tried to stretch and squirm and she opened and closed her eyes in the pillow to get them used to being awake. She yawned, and sat up. It was dim. She reached for her cell phone to check the time when she saw she wasn't at the park, or even at home. Amanda saw bars, she was in a jail cell. She saw a skeleton under her bed and gasped, ran to the corner of the room and gagged. She looked down at herself and saw she was in a grimy t-shit and shorts that were black and white striped. Some uniforms they have here, Amanda thought. It was a tiny cell. She ran to the divider and tried to dig a little bit of plaster stuff out to make a hole to see through. She looked and saw Hannah on the other side. She looked up and saw there was just enough space to the ceiling so she could climb over, so she did. Amanda ran to the side of the bed where Hannah was, and she noticed that Hannah was still sleeping. She shook her to jar her out of sleep, but she didn't budge. Then she smacked her across the face. "Gosh!" she yelled, and opened her eyes to see who it was and her eyes widened, she realized too that she wasn't at home. "Shut up," Amanda snapped quietly and put her hand over Hannah's mouth. "We're in jail...I think. Look over there, see those bars? We are in cells, but it might not really be a jail, because I found and old body under my bed, they can't really do that, can they?" She whispered, and took her hand off of her mouth so she could reply. Just incase it was a real jail, Amanda treated it like a real jail. She climbed over the divider, back to her cell and sat on the bed. "Hello! I would like to make my phone call now!" Then upstairs she heard heavy foot steps, boots, and they trailed heavily and slowly down the stairs until a man appeared at the bottom, in front of Amanda's cell. "You won't be makin' any phone calls here," The man said. he was dressed in a police uniform, should she believe him? Was he really a police officer? He denied her a phone call, so it mustn't be. "Where am I? Is this a real jail? When can we go home-" "Shut up!" He snapped. "Let me out!!!" Amanda yelled back. The man turned around and then paused when he heard Amanda start to sob, then when he heard what it was, he continued up the stairs. Amanda got off the floor, brushed herself off, and whispered "Don't worry." to Hannah's cell. Through the hole in the wall, she saw Hannah crying. I have to think, how am I going to get out of here? She sat on the bed softly because she remembered it creaking last time she sat down. My retainer! She said in her head. Amanda knew her retainer cost over a hundred bucks, but she had to get out, her mom would understand. She took it out of her mouth and twisted the wires into a stick shape as straight and not kinked as possible. She walked in front of the door and knelt to eye height with the lock and attempted to pick the lock. She remembered doing less complicated locks a few years ago, like her sister's room... and her sister's diary, when...CLICK. She cheered in her head and smiled. She opened the door as small as possible just enough to squeeze through, to reduce creaking noises. She walked quickly to Hannah's cell and studied the outside lock. It was really easy, there was just a lever to pull at the very top, but out of reach because a board blocked the openings of the bars to the person on the inside the cell, then Amanda walked into Hannah's cell. "Hannah, I got out, and I got you out now, just get up, we're free!" She walked toward Hannah and shook her, but when she did, Hannah's head was separated from her neck and it smacked onto the ground. She stepped back and screamed with hot air coming from her mouth instead of noise. Part 3 Then, Amanda got up, closed the cell, and went to find her other friends. The next cell was Marc's, get out!"She said in a strong voice before she ran to free the others. At the end of the room, they saw a pile of their clothes, and they grabbed them and quickly put them on. There was also a window that was big enough to crawl out of. Everyone waited for each other to get out, until-BANG! It sounded close. Amanda turned around and saw two men, one of them was the one she saw already, they were both dressed in police uniforms, and they both had guns. "Frank, should I tranq' 'em?" the new guy said. "Yep! Get them John!" Then he tried firing, but he missed the first one, but the next four shots, he got them. The lights shined bright, and Amanda woke up. A short nervous moan brought her back to it. Her head was pounding, and she thought she must have bumped it really hard when she hit the ground. Oh no! She realized, I was tranquilized where am I now? Then, she tried lifting herself, but she couldn't lift past her waist. She looked down and saw that her wrists, ankles, and waist was tied down to a table. She opened her mouth to scream, but it was muffled, there was a cloth tied around her mouth as a gag. Amanda looked around and she saw Marc, Sam, and Eric all tied up too. They were all awake too. Amanda didn't understand it. How could someone be so cruel? What did they want from us? What did we do to deserve this? Amanda looked over at Sam and saw that her leg was bleeding, she was the one moaning, and she still moaned while she squirmed. Amanda kept chewing at her gag to get it off, and did. Amanda kept squeezing her wrists back sideways through the cuffs and they were burning, and red, until she finally got one off, reached over, and untied the other cuffs. Amanda jumped off of the table and freed Eric, Amanda was limping over to Sam's table when she realized that she was limping, she looked down at her ankle and it was bleeding, her ankle was out of place, and she could see it poking through the skin, she noticed Sam, Eric, Marc all had injuries too. She painfully popped it backThey all trudged together through the nearest door. SNAP. They all heard a cord snap followed by tick, tick, tick. Out in the hall area, there was a TV, a cartoon appeared on the screen. It was a creepy looking kangaroo with a smirk on its face and it said "Hello. Welcome to the house. Try to get out by 6 AM and you won't be locked in forever. But there are some traps throughout it, so you better watch ooouuu-out. They noticed a little note card on the side of the TV. Eric picked it up and read it aloud: Beware of the maze, which is really the house. Go quickly and quietly like a little mouse. If you don't hurry and strive for freedom with each other, then don't even think about seeing your father or mother. The TV shut off and they assumed the cord set the timer. The clock on the side of the TV flicked to 12:06, there was six hours left. They went around the corner. "Should we split up, or stay together?" Eric asked. Everyone shrugged at the same time. Eventually, they decided that they should split: Eric and Marc, and Amanda and Sam. Then every body would use their cell phones and call each other when they found the exit and give directions to help the others find the way out. There was a split in the hallway. Sam stood at one end, and Mark stood at the other, while Eric and Amanda stood in between. Amanda looked into his eyes and said "Eric... be safe. Use your heads so you don't get killed. Goodbye." Then they split up and went down their paths. "So it's just you and me now Amanda. If they die, then we would loose three of our friends! I can't take that!" Sam said. And Amanda noticed that her voice broke. "How can this happen to us? What did we do to deserve this? It's not fair!" Amanda said, and then softly, with her head down "It's not fair." Back and forth, around corners, dead ends, it seemed like there was no escape. Sam happened to look over and saw Eric looking down, but Marc wasn't with him. "Where's Marc?!" Sam yelled. "I don't know! I was walking, and happened to look around and Marc wasn't there anymore. I started looking for him, but all I saw was a trail of blood, but it stopped at a dead end, but he wasn't there! There was so much, like he couldn't possibly be alive anymore! What did they do with him?!" "Oh my gosh! See I knew something would happen! I told you!" Sam screamed. "It isn't my fault Marc wandered off!" Eric yelled back. Amanda caught a shiny glimpse of something in the corner of her eye as she turned away. It was Marc's cell phone! She ran over to it and said "Look!'' to everyone. She picked it up and flipped it open, and she saw that it was dead. She got her cell phone out to see the time: 2:27, when she saw she had a voicemail. Amanda called her voicemail, "You have one-new-voice-message. First message, sent at 2:16 AM. From "Marc". "Amanda! Heeelp! I'm being-" End of message." Everyone was frozen. It was so loud that everyone else heard. Amanda closed her phone with her face blank and frozen and slipped it back into her pocket. "They must have put it here on purpose." Eric said. Part 4 Amanda almost threw up. She couldn't take that already two of her friends were gone. Then she looked over at Sam and Eric. Not them too. Or what if I'm next. Amanda thought. "Guys, guys! Pull yourselves together! I'm really sorry to tell you that they are gone! They aren't coming back! It's two thirty So be quiet, suck it up and save yourselves while we still have the chance!" Eric yelled, but after he said it, you could tell on his face that he felt sorry for yelling at them. But still even after he said that, Amanda still had a secret crush on him. "We should stick together this time, three heads are better than one!" Amanda said. "How about we stand on each other to see where the exit is!" Sam said. "How about-the walls go up to the ceiling!" Amanda said, "Sorry... I'm just really tired." "It's okay Amanda, I am too. I understand." Sam said. They turned around the corner and there was a door. "We made it out!" Sam and Amanda jumped, and Eric looked overly happy. Eric opened it and the smile dropped. Amanda and Sam came to his sides to see what it was, because they didn't see sky at the top of the doorway. There was a table with Marc on it, he was dead and his skin was black, he was burned. There was another door behind Marc's table, that had a tiny window, and a sign underneath that said "Caution! Extreme temperatures over 600 Degrees!". "Let's go." Amanda said, pulling herself together. They stepped out of the room and shut the door. CLICK. The voice of the kangaroo came on the intercom, "You know what happens when you don't make it out in time? Carbon Monoxide. Oh and... you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I'm telling you why, 'cause a trap is coming up right ahead, watch out." They ran as fast as they could around corners and down more hallways. Then there was and end, but with two doors. They both said "EXIT" on the top of them. "... I'll go in guys." Sam finally said. She stood in front of the left door, her palm hovering over the nob, she was hesitant, even though she always was the daredevil, even over "Big and Bad" and "Manly" Eric and Marc. She stepped inside, turned around, and looked scared, then, the door swung closed. They heard the noise of a machine starting up. Eric started kicking the door, and Amanda kept pounding on it with her fists. They could hear Sam's screams on the other side and a burst of steam rushed out of the crack at the bottom of the door. Her screams ended, and all the noise that was left was sizzling noises, the sound of when you put fries in a frier. "Three." Amanda said, choking back her tears, it was barely audible. "Next it's, it's you, or me..." "Don't you say that Amanda! Don't you ever say that! We are gonna make it home! You hear me?!" Eric shouted. Amanda crashed to the floor. "Just leave me here, go on." She said. "No... now get up." Eric said in a stern, low voice. He waited for her, but when she didn't budge, he sat down next to her. "Don't give up, obviously the exit is the other door. We made it Amanda! Cheer up! I know... we can't just forget about the others... but we just gotta get home. Please, just come on." His eyes welled up to the maximum, and a tear slid down from one eye. Amanda hugged him. "I 'm so glad you guys have been my best friends. If the others were here, I would say the same thing. Thanks." She said, cheering up. They both stood up, and walked out the door. Part 5 They stepped onto the dewy grass behind the house. The sun was just peeping rays of light out, and they watched it come up. BAM. The door made a loud clicking noise, it locked, and you could hear sprays from the inside, outside. They ran as fast as they could, and kept looking behind them to make sure nobody was there. It seemed to them, that they ran for miles, and actually, they probably did. Finally, after hours, they saw the figure of a house or a building. They came uo closer to it, expecting someone would be there. At the front door, they knocked, but nobody answered. They started pounding on the door, but still no one answered. "Should we go in?" Eric asked Amanda, and she shrugged. "Well, this would be breaking an entry. But the guys might have seen us leave on the cameras. We need someplace to hide!" She replied. Eric lifted his foot to kick the door open, and Amanda was over by the window, but it was already opened. There was thick dust caked on everything. "How did someone abandon this house? Like they just went out, but never came back? Everything a normal household needs is here, but its just old." Eric said. They kept wandering around, examining the things that were there. "I found food! Canned food!" Eric said. "But one problem, there's only four cans." "And I found a duster, and a rag!" Amanda exclaimed, and tossed Eric the rag, and they dusted away. It was a tiny house, just one bedroom, with one bathroom, and a living area/kitchen. They were so dirty when they were finished cleaning the house. Amanda took a shower, but she had to let it run for twenty minutes because the water was so old that was stored in the pipes. After that, Eric took a shower. Around seven, they were so bored, there was nothing to do. And they could call, other wise they would have when they arrived, but they couldn't get any reception on their cell phones because they were in the middle on nowhere. They just sat on the couch and talked. "I wonder what our parents are thinking right now. I don't think mine are worrying." Eric said. "Don't say that Eric! They care about you, they were probably upset that you didn't have the house cleaned and ready for them like you were supposed to, but then again, we were kidnapped, so we really couldn't." "Amanda, I'm really sorry I got us all into this mess. If I hadn't started drinking, and helped them put liquor in your punch, this... wouldn't have happened." Eric said. "Yeah, but it was still my fault for drinking it. I still knew you guys did something to it. It's just, I thought that you guys would be mad at me if I said 'no'. There was a long pause. "But I wonder what my parents are thinking too.... My little sister Kelly." "Aww," Eric said, and he wasn't being sarcastic. "Let's get some sleep. We need to get up early in the morning, set your phone alarm for six." Eric said. Amanda nodded and they went to the bedroom. There was a stench and they followed it to the closet in the bedroom, but didn't dare open it. "I'll sleep on the floor." Eric said. "No, I will." Amanda replied. Eric stared at her, and she said "Fine." "Tomorrow we'll try figure things out." Eric said. "Eric, I feel bad about making you sleep on the floor." Amanda said. She pulled her hood up so she wouldn't have to touch the dirty bedding. "Don't. Because tomorrow night, you will." Eric said. They started laughing. "Night." "Good night." Amanda said, as she turned out the light. "Honey." She whispered. "-What did you say?" Eric asked, puzzled. "- Nothing. I said goodnight. Now... goodnight. " And they drifted off to sleep. Amanda screamed, and fell out of the bed and landed on Eric's feet, then she crawled over and turned on the light. Eric moaned. "What is it Amanda? It's like," Eric looked at the clock on the wall, " three in the morning, turn out the light." He said, while he shielded his eyes. " I felt something, touch my face, was it you?" She asked. "No. You were probably just, (yawn), dreaming it." Eric replied "No Eric, I've been drifting in and out of sleep, and that time, I swear I was awake. Something touched my face! " Amanda said, trying not to shout very loud. CLICK. The front door closed. It was very quiet, but in that moment of silence, it was very loud. They bolted over to the window and saw tall grass moving in a trail backward. They left. Eric believed her then. They went out together to the main room and Amanda locked the door. Amanda walked back to the bedroom thinking Eric was behind her, but she turned around and he wasn't. "I'm gonna stay out here, keep an eye out." Eric said. Amanda nodded. Eric sat down on the couch and then stretched his legs out across it. She went to the bedroom and waited twenty minutes, acting like she was sleeping. Amanda didn't want to be alone after this just happened so she went in the living room and lay on the floor. They both went to sleep for the night. Amanda woke up, but Eric was already outside. It was cold early in the morning. "Morning Eric. Why didn't you wake me up?" She asked, but he didn't say anything. He was sitting in a lawn chair, and his back was to her. "Eric?" She asked, and walked around to his other side and he buried his head in his arms and lap. He was crying. She patted his back. "What's wrong?" she asked. He sniffled and wiped his face with his arm and stood up. "I was waiting for you, we can go get some food now. But we have to go fast." He said. She nodded and they left. They found a little garden, some tomatoes and potatoes, and there was an apple tree. They picked some and ran back to the house. They ate and were bored the rest of the day again. That night Amanda slept on the floor and Eric slept on the bed. "Eric!"Amanda yelled. "Some thing touched my face again!" "Again?" He asked. They heard the click again, but this time it was the bedroom door. Eric bolted to the window. "Amanda, get weapons! I didn't see anyone leave! He's outside!" Eric whispered. Amanda ran to the closet. She took a deep breath, preparing herself for the stench that was about to come. She opened the door and stepped inside. There was junk scattered on the floor. But in the middle of the closet, there was a bookcase that had nicknacks and pictures. There was on big one. It was a silver picture frame with a picture of a woman. She was elderly, about 65 to 70. On the frame, it said "Mom". She looked so familiar. Amanda realized that it was the sons' mother when she looked at the bottom shelf and there was a double picture frame that had the "police officer" sons. This was their house! Behind the bookcase was a sliding door, she opened it and there was a dozen dead bodies, she saw Marc, Sam, and Hannah's headless body in the closet. Amanda wretched and fell back. Someone caught her. She looked up and it was Eric. He said "What?" She couldn't even get any words out and just pointed, and when he saw it he almost dropped her, so he pushed her back up. They ran out of the room and down the hallway until someone stepped out from around the corner. It was Frank. "Not so fast" he said. Part 6 "Where do you think you're going? Frank said. "Home!" Eric shouted, and kicked Frank in the face. He fell on his back and Amanda jumped on top of him. She punched his face again and again. Then she did one big blow to his stomach repeatedly and Eric kicked his sides and thighs. On one big final punch to his nose and it gushed out blood. She stood up and Eric raised his foot over Franks face. "Should I give him the "death sentence" Amanda?" Eric said. Amanda grabbed him and pulled him to the side. "No."Amanda said, "I know something better, make him suffer like they did until we get the cops!" Then they grabbed him and threw him in the closet. Eric boarded it shut and they ran off. They ran and ran. This time when they ran, they ran to the side, not the direction that they came from. Finally, they came to a dirt road. But there were no cars in sight. They still continued down the street. A car came by. They started jumping around and jumped in the middle of the street. Eric and Amanda looked really dirty, especially their clothes. The little rusty green car stopped at the side of the road, their helplessness appearance must have made them stop to pick up complete strangers. "Thank you so much!" Amanda said. "Do you have a cell phone we can use? Ours died." "No, I'm sorry. But I do have two chargers. (chuckle) I left my cell phone at home. What's your brand?" The man said. "I have a...C6J890" Amanda said. "Okay, I have a C6, see if this one fits." The man handed her the charger and she put it in. "It fits!" The man plugged it in and she turned on her cell phone. She started to dial 9-1-1, but stopped. While the phone rang she asked "What city are we in?... Well, we had some car trouble. We aren't crazy or anything." "Baton Rouge." He said, and looked at her suspiciously. Amanda hung up the phone. What if he thinks something wrong and doesn't believe we were kidnapped? He would kick us out and my phone wouldn't be charged enough. So I'll wait twenty minutes. They just drove down the dirt road, there was nothing on it, it seemed like it went on forever. Finally, she looked at the clock and thirty minutes had passed. "What street are we on?" Eric asked. "Mully road. It connects with Danburt Street, way at the end." "Hello? I need some help! We are on Mully Road by Danburt in Baton Rouge. Send cars, we had been kidnapped, but right now we got a ride! We would like to go home!" Amanda said. "Will do, help is on the way." The operator said. "We'll take it from here." Eric said. And they stepped out of the car at Danburt and Mully. They sat on the side of the road and finally the police cars came. Eric and Amanda got inside the police car and drove to the police airport to be escorted home. On the plane they sat in their seats and ate two meals each. Finally, when they were done they talked. "I can't believe we are finally going home Amanda!" Eric said. "I know!" Amanda replied. "I...I love you." Eric said. "You do?!?" She asked. He nodded. "I love you too." And they went home. Epilogue The parents of the group of friends were all devastated when they found out about what had happened to all of them. Their case made world news. Eric and Amanda stayed together and ended up getting accepted into the same colleges. Amanda majored in art and Eric majored in journalism. All through college they stayed together. Eventually the couple broke up, thinking it was the best thing to do. When Eric and Amanda were both 26, they got back together for three years and got married. Two years later, their case became a movie and became the most popular movie in ten years. Eric and Amanda made money for agreeing to the story and moved into a large house and had three dogs and two cats. Eventually, they had three kids: two girls and a boy and named them Hannah, Sam and Marc. i know they are both bad, im young, i dont support drinking , i was just trying to put it into the view of a lot teenagers where a lot of them drink beer first , im not trying to put in the head of ppl that drinking is ok for young ppl
What is the lesson of this story? David Pradarelli Assalam-aleikum wa rahmatullah! I came to Islam pretty much on my own. I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but I always had a deep fascination with the spiritualities of other cultures. My Journey started when I desired to have a relationship with my creator. I wanted to find my spirituality, and not the one I was born with. I spent some time in the Catholic religious order known as the Franciscans. I had many friends and I enjoyed prayer times, but it just seemed to relaxed in its faith, and there was, in my opinion, too much arrogance and hypocrisy. When I had returned back from the order into secular living again, I once again was searching for my way to reach God (Allah). One night I was watching the news on television, and of course they were continuing their one-sided half-truth reports on Muslims (always in a negative light instead of balancing it by showing the positive side as well) with images of violence and terrorism. I decided long ago that the news media has no morals whatsoever and will trash anyone for that "juicy story", and I pretty much refused to believe anything they said. I decided to research Islam for myself and draw my own conclusions. What I found paled all the negative images that the satanic media spewed forth. I found a religion deep in love and spiritual truth, and constant God-mindfullness. What may be fanatacism to one person may be devotion to another. I picked up a small paperback Qur'an and began devouring everything I could. It opened my eyes to the wonder and mercy of ALLAH, and I found the fascination growing every day...it was all I could think about. No other religion including Catholicism impacted me in such a powerful way...I actually found myself in God-awareness 24 hours a day 7 days a week...each time I went to my five daily prayers, I went with anticipation...finally! What I have been searching for all of my life. I finally got enough courage to go to a mosque and profess the Shahadah before my Muslm brothers and sisters. I now am a practicing Muslim and I thank ALLAH for leading me to this place: Ashhahdu anna la ilaha ilallah wa Muhammadur rasul ALLAH! This means: "I believe in the oneness and totalness of ALLAH and that Muhammad(peace and blessings be upon him)is the chosen prophet of ALLAH." I now also accept Jesus as no longer equal with ALLAH, but sent as Muhammad was sent ...to bring all of mankind to submission to the will of ALLAH! May all of mankind find the light and truth of ALLAH. Ibrahim Karlsson I was born in an ordinary , non-religious Swedish home, but with a very loving relationship to each other. I had lived my life 25 years without really thinking about the existence of God or anything spiritual what-so-ever; I was the role model of the materialistic man. Or was I? I recall a short story I wrote in 7th grade, something about my future life, where I portray myself as a successful games programmer (I hadn't yet even touched a computer) and living with a Muslim wife!! OK, at that time Muslim to me meant dressing in long clothes and wearing a scarf, but I have no idea where those thoughts came from. Later, in high school, I remember spending much time in the school-library (being a bookworm) and at one time I picked up a translated Qur'an and read some passages from it. I don't remember exactly what I read, but I do remember finding that what it said made sense and was logical to me. Still, I was not at all religious, I couldn't fit God in my universe, and I had no need of any god. I mean, we have Newton to explain how the universe works, right? Time passed, I graduated and started working. Earned some money and moved to my own apartment, and found a wonderful tool in the PC. I became a passionate amateur photographer, and enrolled in activities around that. At one time I was documenting a marketplace, taking snapshots from a distance with my telelens when an angry looking immigrant came over and explained that he would make sure I wasn't going to take any more pictures of his mum and sisters. Strange people those Muslims... More things related to Islam happened that I can't explain why I did what I did. I can't recall the reason I called the "Islamic information organisation" in Sweden, ordering a subscription to their newsletter, buying Yosuf Ali's Qur'an and a very good book on Islam called Islam - our faith. I just did! I read almost all of the Qur'an, and found it to be both beautiful and logical, but still, God had no place in my heart. One year later, whilst out on a patch of land called "pretty island" (it really is) taking autumn-color pictures, I was overwhelmed by a fantastic feeling. I felt as if I were a tiny piece of something greater, a tooth on a gear in God's great gearbox called the universe. It was wonderful! I had never ever felt like this before, totally relaxed, yet bursting with energy, and above all, total awareness of god wherever I turned my eyes. I don't know how long I stayed in this ecstatic state, but eventually it ended and I drove home, seemingly unaffected, but what I had experienced left uneraseable marks in my mind. At this time Microsoft brought Windows-95 to the market with the biggest marketing blitz known to the computer industry. Part of the package was the on-line service The Microsoft Network. And keen to know what is was I got myself an account on the MSN. I soon found that the Islam BBS were the most interesting part of the MSN, and that's where I found Shahida. Shahida is a American woman, who like me has converted to Islam. Our chemistry worked right away, and she became the best pen-friend I have ever had. Our e-mail correspondence will go down in history: the fact that my mailbox grew to something like 3 megabytes over the first 6 months tells its own tale. She and I discussed a lot about Islam and faith in god in general, and what she wrote made sense to me. Shahida had an angels patience with my slow thinking and my silly questions, but she never gave up the hope in me. Just listen to your heart and you'll find the truth she said. And I found the truth in myself sooner than I'd expected. On the way home from work, in the bus with most of the people around me asleep, and myself adoring the sunset, painting the beautifully dispersed clouds with pink and orange colours, all the parts came together, how God can rule our life, yet we're not robots. How I could depend on physics and chemistry and still believe and see Gods work. It was wonderful, a few minutes of total understanding and peace. I so long for a moment like this to happen again! And it did, one morning I woke up, clear as a bell, and the first thought that ran through my brain was how grateful to God I were that he made me wake up to another day full of opportunities. It was so natural, like I had been doing every day of my life! After these experiences I couldn't no longer deny God's existence. But after 25 years of denying God it was no easy task to admit his existence and accept faith. But good things kept happening to me, I spent some time in the US, and at this time I started praying, testing and feeling, learning to focus on God and to listen to what my heart said. It all ended in a nice weekend in New York, of which I had worried a lot, but it turned out to be a success, most of all, I finally got to meet Shahida! At this point there was no return, I just didn't know it yet. But God kept leading me, I read some more, and finally got the courage to call the nearest Mosque and ask for a meeting with some Muslims. With trembling legs I drove to the mosque, which I had passed many times before, but never dared to stop and visit. I met the nicest people there, and I was given some more reading material, and made plans to come and visit the brothers in their home. What they said, and the answers they gave all made sense. Islam became a major part of my life, I started praying regularly, and I went to my first Jumma prayer. It was wonderful, I sneaked in, and sat in the back, not understanding a word the imam was saying, but still enjoying the service. After the khutba we all came together forming lines, and made the two 'rakaas'. It was yet one of the wonderful experiences I have had on my journey to Islam. The sincerity of 200 men fully devoted to just one thing, to praise God, felt great! Slowly my mind started to agree with my heart, I started to picture myself as a Muslim, but could I really convert to Islam? I had left the Swedish state-church earlier, just in case, but to pray 5 times a day? to stop eating pork? Could I really do that? And what about my family and friends? I recalled what Br. Omar told me, how his family tried to get him admitted to an asylum when he converted. Could I really do this? By this time the Internet wave had swept my country, and I too had hooked up with the infobahn. And "out there" were tons of information about Islam. I think I collected just about every web page with the word Islam anywhere in the text, and learned a lot. But what really made a change was a text I found in Great Britain, a story of a newly converted woman with feelings exactly like mine. 12 hours is the name of the text. When I had read that story, and wept the tears out of my eyes I realized that there were no turning back anymore, I couldn't resist Islam any longer. Summer vacation started, and I had made my mind up. I had to become a Muslim! But after all, the start of the summer had been very cold, and if my first week without work was different, I wouldn't lose a day of sunshine by not being on the beach. On the TV the weatherman painted a big sun right on top of my part of the country. OK then, some other day... The next morning; a steel grey sky, with ice-cold gusts of wind outside my bedroom window. It was like God had decided my time was up, I could wait no longer. I had the required bath, and dressed in clean clothes, jumped in my car and drove the 1 hour drive to the mosque. In the Mosque I approached the brothers with my wish, and after dhuhr prayer the Imam and some brothers witnessed me say the Shahada. Alhamdulillah! And to my great relief all my family and friends have taken my conversion very well, they have all accepted it, I won't say they were thrilled, but absolutely no hard feelings. They can't understand all the things I do. Like praying 5 times a day on specific times, or not eating pork meat. They think this is strange foreign customs that will die out with time, but I'll prove them wrong. InshaAllah! Abd al-Hayy Moore I became a Muslim when it seemed I had already accepted Islam in my bones, as if beyond choice, and I only had to make a leap to embrace it formally. Outwardly I was content; inwardly I was coasting. My three-year-old theatre company was disbanded after a hilariously chaotic production for a Tim Leary Benefit at the Family Dog in San Francisco, circa '68 -- naturally the orange juice everyone had passed around was spiked, so that chorus members were doing the final scene in the first ten minutes -- and for six months I had been methodically typing out poetry manuscripts in my attic in Berkeley preparatory to a big publishing peak. I considered myself a Zen Buddhist. But I was other things as well. My normal routine was to get up, sit zazen, smoke a joint, do half an hour of yoga, then read the "Mathnawi" of Rumi, the long mystical poem of that great Persian Sufi of the thirteenth century. Then I met the man who was to be my guide to our teacher in Morocco, Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib, may Allah be pleased with him. At first the meeting was simply remarkable, and my guide simply a remarkable man. But soon our encounter was to become extraordinary, leading to a revolution in my life from which I have never recovered and never hope to. The man looked like an eccentric Englishman. He too had only recently come out of the English version of the Hippie Wave. He was older, refined in his manners, spectacularly witty and intellectual, but of that kind prevalent then who had hobnobbed with the Beatles and knew the Tantric Art collection of Brian Jones firsthand. He had been on all the classic drug quests -- peyote in the Yucatan, mescaline with Laura Huxley -- but with the kif quest in Morocco he had stumbled on Islam and then the Sufis, and the game was up. A profound change had taken place in his life that went far beyond the psychedelic experience. For the three days following our meeting, two other Americans and I listened in awe as this magnificent storyteller unfolded the picture of Islam, of the perfection of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, of the Sufis of Morocco, and of the 100-year-old plus Shaykh, sitting under a great fig tree in a garden with his disciples singing praises of Allah. It was everything I'd always dreamed of. It was poetry come alive. It was the visionary experience made part of daily life, with the Prophet a perfectly balanced master of wisdom and simplicity, an historically accessible Buddha, with a mixture of the earthiness of Moses, the otherworldliness of Jesus, and a light all his own. The prophetic knowledge our guide talked about was a kind of spiritual existentialism. It was a matter of how you enter a room, which foot you entered with, that you sipped water but gulped milk, that you said, "Bismillah" (In the Name of Allah) before eating or drinking, and "Al-hamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) afterwards, and so on. But rather than seeing this as a burden of hundreds of "how-to's," it was more like what the LSD experience taught us, that there is a "right" way to do things that has, if you will, a cosmic resonance. It is a constant awareness of courtesy to the Creator and His creation that itself ensures and almost visionary intensity. It is hard to put forward any kind of explanation of Islam, to try to suggest the beauty of its totality, through the medium of words. The light of Islam, since it is transformational and alchemical in nature, almost always comes via a human messenger who is a transmitter of the picture by his very being. Face to face with our guide, what struck us most was his impeccable, noble behavior. He seemed to be living what he was saying. Finally the moment came, as a surprise, when he confronted me with my life. "Well," he said one morning after three full days of rapturous agreement that what he was bringing to us was the best thing we'd ever heard, "What do you think? Do you want to become a Muslim?" I hedged. "It's the most beautiful thing I've heard about so far. After all my Zen Buddhism, all my yoga, Tibetan Buddhism and Hindu gurus, this is certainly it! But I think I would like to travel a little, see the world, go to Afghanistan (then unoccupied), maybe meet my Shaykh in a mountain village far off somewhere." "That's not good enough. You have to decide now. Yes or no. If it's yes, then we start on a great adventure. If it's no, then no blame, I've done my duty. I'll just say goodbye and go on my way. But you have to decide now. I'll go downstairs and read a magazine and wait. Take your time." When he had left th
Chapter 1? What do you think?
Indian-Style Interior Design. Any ideas? I am designing a master bedroom for a house I'm moving into next year and I am looking for ideas. I am thinking I want an Indian theme, and since I am visiting India this summer, I want to get the main idea sketched out before I leave (So i can buy fabrics and stuff there) Does anyone have any good pictures of Indian-designed rooms, or any cool ideas? Thanks a lot!
