What are modern window treatments for a bedroom that are kid-safe/kid-proof?

1. No such thing as kid proof, especially with boys. The most durable window treatment are pvc blinds. Not the cheap kind- the really thick and sturdy kind. Have them professionally installed. They can be cleaned with soap and water- just make sure you don't leave the strings hanging, if you have small children. And put up a decorative topper of your choice to go with your decor.
2. There are some that are cordless-- you just lift the blind-- at smith + noble (smithandnoble.com, I think) Also, those wooden shutters on the inside of the window can be kind of nice.
