  1. Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, Sears , Sherwin Williams, and many others all have hundreds ( maybe even thousands ) of color cards just waiting for you. It really depends on the decor and what sort of feel you want the room to have. I wanted mine & the hubby's bedroom to feel really romantic so I went with Baroque style decor and colors called Chamois, Night, Warm Sand and Caramel ;) ~You could do a painted headboard, it could look really pretty :) Ask the people in the paint department for help or maybe even get an interior designer to consult with ( he/she probably won't come cheap though). Congrats on the new house and best wishes! It's be nice if you could update us with some before and after pics :) P.S. House Beautiful, Beautiful Homes, Renovated Homes etc are some great mags to look at for ideas :)
  2. Go to new houses , check out the model home and look at the paint colors. Then go to Home Depot. Shades of green is very popular these days.
  3. Don't paint a headboard on your wall. It really puts you in a bind if you want to move furniture. Go with calming colors (avoid reds and yellows). Sponge painting is pretty cool also. I would suggest surfing the web for ideas, checking out magazines dealing with home decor (Better Homes & Gardens, etc.), and consult with an interior decorator. Above all else choose what you do together. It is your room and should be an intimate and private place that the two of you can enjoy together. Have fun with it too, and don't be hasty. If you are buying the house you have lots of time to decide.
  4. Paint your bedroom with 'darker' color it will bring 'calming' feeling in it. With no backboard I probably put a huge mirror on the wall. It will makes the room brighter during the day, and added romantic touch for both of you. Have fun and congratulation on your new home!
  5. Here are some ideas from HGTV for fun things that you can paint. Just click on the different links: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_faux_trompe_loeil/0,1792,HGTV_3404,00.html There are heaps of stencils you can buy: http://www.designerstencils.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=HomeDecor Also, instead of a headboard: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_bedroom/article/0,1793,HGTV_3366_5466178_02,00.html As for a color, I like "Reflection" by sherwin williams. Very tranquil. http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp
  6. Painting an accent color behind your bed is an excellent idea. I would suggest that you select your paint colors from the colors in your bedding. Paint sellers have electronic tools to allow you to try different colors together. Stripes are pretty easy to paint - consider either vertical or horizontal. A more subtle special effect can be achieved with painting stripes, or shapes with a higher gloss paint that is the same color as the overall wall paint. If you want something different - avoid trends, such as the current blue/brown combination. Black and off white can be rich, deep purple/eggplant and off white might be more youthful and is soothing. Blue and yellow both calms and cheers. Have fun and always try paint samples first!
