Will one wall a bright red in a bedroom lower the value of a house?

hi all well my oldest daughter painted one wall in her bedroom a really bright deep red, the rest are a cream color. Will this put off potential buyers?

  1. Not much, as everyone knows repainting is the easiest fix-up.
  2. Not at all, if you make it look great, it can increase the value and attract potential buyers. Just stage the house before you sell it, if that's what you plan on doing.
  3. It's possible, but one never knows. I had painted a mural on one of the walls in my boys bedroom. The real estate agent was adamant that we sand & repaint - I declined. The buyers loved it and the mural is still there 12 years later.
  4. To answer... Yes and no What I mean is that some people can look past colors on the walls where as others can not. Are you trying to sale your house right now? If you are you should just leave it a neutral color. If you are planning on selling the house later down the road, PAINT away my friend. I, unlike many, realize that paint is just a thing that can be changed in less than a day in most cases. I watched a lot of those home improvement shows and have been shocked when people will pass a beautiful home because the walls are dark purple or bright red. Some people can't see past the color or clutter. Just remember if you are selling your place, then you decorate for the masses not yourself. Save your time, energy, and money on your next place. That way you get to be the one to enjoy it! :)
  5. It won't necessarily lower the value of your home, however potential buyers may not be as fond of that red wall as your daughter was. It is always best to stick with neutral colors for the walls when putting your house on the market. There is a lot of competition out there, right now, and you want your house to be the one they fall in love with and make an offer on. Yes, buyers can paint it, but the buyer also has it in the back of their minds that "O.K. I liked the house but then we will need to paint that one bedroom". Buyers prefer not to have a list of what they need to do once they move in. It would be in your best interest, to paint all four walls a light neutral color. Red for a bedroom is not a calming relaxing color one wants to see each night. Good luck!!1
  6. It's possible. When people are looking at a house to buy they like to picture themselves in the house, and picture what they can do to the house that fits their style. A bright red bedroom wall might possibly turn off a potential buyer who sees a new house as kind of a blank slate to decorate as they please. I think you would do better to paint the wall to match the rest of the room, especially since the red wall might not be another person's taste.
