How can I design my bedroom to be an enclave, a refuge from the world?
...while still maintaing teenage masulincinity. Would painting the room green, a natural color be a good start? How about pictures on the wall? correction: masculinity

- Well of course you'd have to go with what you like. If green calms you, go for it. Nature pictures or any kind of art that soothes you would be great. Design your room around what you enjoy the most, be it music, reading, writing, whatever. And if you don't like something you've done in it, you can always change it. There are no mistakes, just creative learning experiences!
- Depending on the flooring in your room...does green go with the carpeting?? If you have wood floors, you can paint it any color, but I would be sure that whatever color you choose is complimentary to the flooring. That said, I would maybe opt for a deeper shade of something neutral on the walls...which would go with just about anything. For example, Benjamin Moore's color Stone Hearth #984 is more of a grayish tan, while their color Coastal Fog #976 is more of a grayish green. Both very masculine and very natural. Not sure what your bedding is like, either. But mossy green bedding would go nicely with either of these colors. You could add a couple of really rich looking African artwork style colorful pillows...find them on ebay for cheap...which are very in right now, and would add some color to the space. As for artwork, you should always make that really personal. For instance, if you like the outdoors, then outdoor scenes would be appropriate. If you like sports, there ya go! ;) And you can do artwork inexpensively by purchasing greeting cards with pictures you admire, tear out pictures from magazines that you like, etc...and have them blown up on photo stock paper at the local copy shop. If you really want to give the room a nice look, have them use black and white print when they blow them up. Then, I would frame them in inexpensive silver poster/picture frames you can buy at IKEA or Target, etc. The silver would be a nice contrast with the richer wall colors. Also, for a nightstand, you can spray paint something you already have with rustoleum flat finish spray paint...to match the walls or bedding. This would make the space look really streamlined and finished and still maintain your masculinity. :) That room would be your own personal and very stylish little refuge!! Hope this helps! Have FUN!! Hope this helps.
