Can anyone help me out with this question regarding my cat?

We have recently taken in a stray cat who has been severly abused it appears.Half of his ears are gone,he has bebes in him,all of his hair chopped off and we already love him very much he is so sweet and gentle. However here is my question he uses the litter box when he feels like it and if hes in one of the bedrooms he will just poop in the floor. He actually pooped on my daughters bed which is just disgusting so at 2am i had to throw out everything and clean her mattress. Does anyone have a solution or a good suggestion for this? He has already been dewormed, treated for earmites, flea treatment, and is due to be fixed next week because he also wants to urinate on my plastic bags. Do you think it could be from just not having a home and trying to adjust to his new surroundings? I dont want to give him to another home, but,i also cant let him poop on my kids furniture. Sorry for the book I wrote. It not just in the bedrooms thats just where it bothers me the most. Its really hard to keep the doors shut we have 4 kids and they are constantly running in and out of the rooms. Thank you for everyones responses! Thank you jc.I never thought about a second litter box. We do have another cat in the house also even though i constantly clean the litter box maybe he also doesnt like to use it after the other cat does. We have had sir scruffy for about 2 1/2 weeks now. I was afraid to confine him to one room beings he has already been through so much he loves attention but he has been busy fattening himself up and sleeping.

  1. go get a proffesional cat teacher he might help!
  2. my cat used to do that. one time wen my mom was sleeping she pooped right on her back! we just dont let her in the bedrooms anymore.
  3. close off the bedrooms for now and keep showing him where his litter box is. he probably isn't used to it yet, he may have been an outdoor cat and used to pooping where he wants. that should also subside once he's fixed. also, talk to your vet, i believe they have some sprays that cats don't like the smell of or tricks them into thinking they've gone there before so they won't again. best wishes
  4. i had the same problem and i actually put the litter box in the bathroom for a few days and put my cat in there too and like after maybe 3 days i think it was he just used the cat litter from then on hope this helped good luck.
  5. Try adding a second litter box - cats are very clean animals, and he might not like going in his litter box if it's already been soiled. Poor thing is going to need a bit of time to adapt to his new surroundings, and getting him neutered will be a big help!
  6. One book deserves another and this is a problem many people have w/their cats so I'm givng you an indepth answer. You don't say how long you've had this cat. Generally when bringing any new cat into one's home, the cat shd 1st be confined to one room with food, water, and litter box for at least 1 or 2 wks. Try doing that w/him now. Also, male cats do mark their territory when they are unaltered. If he will be neutered next week, keep him confined until then and then for another week or so afterwards. Be sure to spend time w/him in the room you choose. When you see him use the litter box, praise him lavishly and give him a treat. After you begin ending his quarantine let him out in the rooms you are in and watch him. After playing w/him, put him back in the room w/the litter box for a few hours. Gradually allow him to have the full run of your place. Some cats nd more than 1 litter box, esp. one who has not been confined in a house or apartment before or one whose home is fairly large (from the cat's perspective ;-)) Another thing to try is Feliway spray available at Petsmart and other locations. Good luck and congratulations to you for your new family member and blessings upon you for giving this gentleman a home.
