Teen Bedroom?

Hello, I am a fifteen year old girl, who is re-doing her room, and i would like to know what you think......I am doing a NYC styled bedroom and i am using the colors Teal, and Red. I found this really cute pub table and chairs set for the corner of my room to hold my laptop. I also have a big picture of the new york skyline in black and white, and i am stenciling the words "Faith, Family, Friends" on the wall in red. while all the other walls will be teal. I have decided on a plain white comforter and white sheer curtains- to break up the boldness. Also i am adding black and white pictures of my friends to one of my walls. So this is my plan...Tell me what you think, and any suggestions you have- Thanks!

  1. Sounds like you have a great plan already. Instead of stenciling, have youever heard of wall decals? The are cool and you can get them in different sayings, fonts and colors: http://www.mywalldecals.com/8.html?sm=54975 Have fun!
  2. i really like your idea! but i think a quote would be really cool as well, not just words. like, find a quote that really motivates you, or is funny, or maybe dry new york humor :) it'll definately add to your amazing idea!
  3. I think its perfect.
  4. OMG!!!! i love it. i cant wait to here how it turns out
  5. Bold colors always seem like a good idea at first, but they often become tiresome very quickly. If you are redecorating with these bold colors coming from a lightly colored room, you might want to start with painting just one wall at a time. Work in your accent art, bed linens and furniture and consider using the bold colors with these accents. The black and white photos with sleek black and/or white frames - black on lighter walls - white on a dark wall - may be really nice; or use all black frames. Perhaps use the bold colors on parts of the table and chairs - using black or white for the base colors and painting the table top, chair seats, backs and/or legs with the red and teal - and for pillows & a bed skirt on the bed to bring everything together. All white bed linens and curtains will really stand out on dark walls. They will actually become the focal point of the room - in other words, they will be first thing people will see when they enter the room. They may be too distracting - and not add the softness you are looking for. Consider using white sheers with colors over them or a set with a modern, geometric pattern with the bold colors included along with a lighter background or main color. Live with the colors and your design for a while and then paint the remaining walls if you are happy with the "look" of the bold colors. Also, be sure to include the floor in the plan. If the floor is wood, an area rug with in the main colors - or all of the colors if possible - would be excellent. If it is carpeted and you cannot change the color, make sure the bold colors will not fight and clash with the carpet. Also keep in mind if and when you want to change the bold colors on the walls, they will be very hard to cover up. Good luck.

  8. sounds pretty sweet .-teal and red thoe id go with black and red walls teal stencils on top -do two walls red two black have white sheets and black red pillows
  9. I love your ideas . Maybe try looking at some creative words from www.uppercaseliving.com instead of stencils.
  10. Love your idea and the bold colors... it's so much fun. If you decide on stenciling (which is a fun project and will probably cost less than decal) then I would suggest also make it big and bold. If the "Faith, Family, Friends" are the words you are using, make them big, very big, and arrange your black and white pictures (in simple black frames) so that they overlay part of the stenciled text... It will create an interesting effect. You are smart to use white comforter and curtains... If you have bedding and rug too, also keep them neutral so that it creates contrast against the boldness of the wall colors. Have fun!
  11. i like it but i don't know that i would to two colors the are so bold b/c eventually u will grow up or just decide you don't like it. U should try to find colors that are more calm
  12. Sounds really nice.I would add some throw pillows on your bed in reds and teal shades. Also add sone throw rugs in black and white checkered that would be nice.Good Luck!
  13. Instead of stenciling or decals, I would buy precut black letters and put them in frames against a white background, to maintain your theme.
  14. sounds good but you have to think if that is going to be a place that your gonna like for a while. i painted my walls a really light yellow color and had flowers and everything around it and for like 3 months it was pretty until i got soooo sick of it i couldnt stand sleeping in the room anymore. i bought neon green and bubble gum pink and totally redid the room later and i loved it! try the colors for a while to see if youre okay with it, and then go ahead and do all that work! and does it reflect your personality? if it doesnt (yellow walls and flowers) you'll hate it later...
