Bedroom help with black lacquer furniture?

We were just given a black lacquer bedroom set: head board, night stand, and chest of drawers. Our house has a country decor. How in the world do I make this work? I need ideas for room color, bedding color, etc. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  1. Make it black & white bedroom. You can put white bed sheet & white curtain.
  2. I have Lane black lacquer and I know exactly what you mean. In a country home I would probably go with the room being white and use the furniture. This way you could add a white rocking chair or a simple patterned border to the walls. The black is your base color so the white draws you to it. Bedding you could do a white eyelet lace or just white cottons. This could bring the Country appeal in and less notice to the black lacquer. I purchased black marble floor tiles and put them on the dressers - diamond wise - to raise things off of the lacquer. i really liked the look - best of luck!
  3. This sounds easy: go with a black and white toile print for window dressings, bedcoverings, and any other accents you want (lamp shades?). Check out the JCPenney catalog, they have this stuff. Then go with an accent color you love for throw pillows, throw blankets, scatter rugs, vases of flowers (real or silk), soften up the tops of the dresser and night stand with a runner in a color that compliments your previous choices, and drape some viney things along the top of the headboard. If you can, change out the knobs on any drawers with a different knob (check out Lowes for the best selection) that will give you a better feel for what you are trying to accomplish. Voila!
