- rushing on new paint is the easiest way to give a piece of furniture a new look. Whether you're painting unfinished or already-painted furniture, try to work in a space that's free of drafts and air-borne dirt, so specks of dust and lint will be less likely to land on your just-painted surfaces.
- it doesn't work brilliantly but if you do it sand the wood down first so the paint grips better, make sure you use the undercoat the paint suggests, use waterbased wood paint if you can (Focus if you're in britain) and apply it with a mini foam roller because it gives a much smoother finish than brush strokes
- you will av 2 sand off the varnish
- Has it got a varnish on it ? If so it will need a very light sand all over before you apply any paint. Just enough to lightly scratch the surface glaze. You will need a fine sandpaper. Is it waxed pine ? If so - this will be very difficult. You would need to get all traces of wax/oil off before you apply paint. The paint will not adhere properly. Is it untreated pine but with knots in the wood? This is OK but you will need to buy some Knotting Fluid and apply this over the knots ( the sap from knots leaches out throught the paint and discolours it ). Wipe over all the wood with some white spirit. Now put the furniture on some newspaper. Now paint one coat of primer (white). Then one white undercoat. If the wood had knots you'll probably need two coats. Now to the final top coat. If you've got any dust or runs or paint bubbles on it so far then give it another light sanding with fine paper. You can either use white gloss - which will give a shiny hard white finish - or apply white eggshell which is also quite tough - but gives a more matt (not shiny) finish - which I think would look better in a bedroom. Make sure you wash the brushes out after with white spirit. Good luck.
- that sounds great white is good especially if your room is kinda small. as far as pine furniture if it has a clear coat on it your going to want to ruff it up with a fine grained sandpaper to get the paint to stick, then primer or a oil based paint. the oil base will shine and when it gets dirty from hands and stuff you can just wash it off. but you have to make sure that you ruff up the clear coat first or it will just chip off. if its stained or new wood the white primer or two to three coats of paint its always good when painting over coats of paint that you sand it with a real light grained sandpaper to keep it from chipping. as far as cheaply go to Home depot or Lowe's any big do it yourself place and you'll find someone to help you find a good grade paint for cheap. good luck
- Yes white, i done my pine bedroom furniture about 3mths ago it came up really good i done curtain rail too. What about Burgundy for your feature wall.
- No! Do an aqua feature wall with bright pink and lime green furniture (other walls still white).
- You will probably need to sand the furniture as it will more than likely have a coat of varnish on it. My mate has done this in the past and now has a smshing new look in her room. Good luck...
