Help with bedroom decorating ideas for a teen?
I have a very cutesy, girl-y bedroom, and I need something different. But my furniture was very expensive and I can't get rid of it. The furniture is a tan color and it has some flowers around the handles of the drawers. There is a big dresser, a chifferobe (just 3 drawers and 3 shelves) a nightstand, and a daybed. I always wanted a gothic style room, but I know that can get expensive and has to be decorated perfectly for it to look right. I also like a room that has a lot of junk, but is organized [does that make sense?] - like lots of cork boards and crates with things inside of them . I like deep colors (like deep purple). Some people have said that a Victorian style would look good - but again it gets expensive and doesn't look right if it's not done perfectly. I don't know how I'm supposed to decorate my room to fit my style and still make it look appropriate with my furniture. Does anyone have ideas? Thanks :) Here's something I like - http://www.flickr.com/photos/champagnechic/1282997002/ Or, like I said maybe a Victorian style bedroom could work??

- Hwanna-McFanna! Are you planning on like...painting your room? Because you could go to Home Depot or Lowes or something, and they have that HUGE wall of paint swatches. You could look at those and pick a nice vintage color you like that goes well with your furniture to getcha started. And that will help you figure out what other colors you need to add to your room to make it all tie in together. And then you could get like, new bedding and stuff to match your style. Like, look at this ... http://www.brylanehome.com/Product/ProductDetailNotFound.aspx?PfId=11344&DeptId=15166&ProductTypeId=2&PurchaseType=0&NotFound=1 It's a really pretty purple, and the rest of the stuff in the room doesn't really match it [except the curtains] and it still looks really nice! And then you could go to Michael's [do have Michael's there?] or some other craft store, and buy some wooden storage boxes... and then you can paint them yourself and make them match your room however you need to. The boxes are about $7 and paint is sometimes only like fifty cents. I know I probably just bored you to death and sounded stupid, but I tried to help. Good luck. I wuv woo. :D
- Thinking cheap.... I love the picture - I think it has an old hollywood glamour meets goth feel. Make a slip cover for your comforter (called a duvet) out of black satin sheets. Easy to find cheap. (try the dollar store) They add super sheen and texture. Get additional sheets for curtains (just add curtain clips) and drapes around the bed - use thumb tacks into the ceiling. Using black contact paper - take the hardware off your dresser - cut paper to size to creat panels - put new hardware on in shiny chrome or clear. Use mirrored tiles on top of your dresser, mounted on the wall.....etc... You can make it work. Have fun.
- check out this site, they have alot of themed rooms, including goth, victorian. Very unique ideas. It doesn't have to be expensive. Find the style you want to copy, then look at thrift shops, walmart, etc to find the things to go with that style. http://mariesmanor.hotusa.org/index.html
