Help hooking-up a new bedroom with some style!?

What up, ya'll - I'm a twenty-three year-old single guy from Southern California, and I'm going to be moving out with some friends for the first time pretty soon, and I'm starting to look for some ideas on how to hook-up my new bedroom. I'm going for a modern/urban kind of feel that shows that I have some style while also giving off enough masculinity at the same time. I'm thinking I want black furniture (bed, desk, dresser, tv stand/unit) and I'm wondering if a light brown/beige/earth tone paint will look good w/ black furniture. Let me know what you think (mostly asking you ladies out there), and feel free to give me some other tips on things you like to see in a man's bedroom...thanks...peeeace!

  1. Warm rich earth tones - brown, taupe, red/oranges will look great with black furniture and will give a nice cozy feel to your room, but be careful to not make it too dark in there. Platforms beds are a great option to a standard bed frame and look really modern and cool. Don't forget nice bedding - beware cheesy patterned comforters! And don't forget nice quality sheets. Bedding can be pretty pricey - Overstock.com is a great resource. For a finished and mature look, avoid tacked posters. Nicely framed artwork is key. Good luck, and congratulations on your upcoming independence!
  2. I think the light brown/beige/earth tone color for the walls would look fine with black furniture. Modern looking lamps or wall mounted swing arm lamps by your bed. Pictures that are unframed canvases for that modern/urban look. You could go with a geometric print for your comforter.
