Need some ideas for a French colonial bedroom!?

I recently moved to a new house and recently I saw Marie Antoinette. I love the French Colonial theme with the pretty blues and gold. I would really like to do the blues and rich golds in my bedding. So now I am on the quest to find bedding, excessories and things I can put on my dressers ect. My furniture is a deep almost cherry wood. If people can give me ideas and also put down websites with the specific items it would be most appreciated. Such as lamps, clock, bedding, mirrors, hatboxs, excessories for my tabletops, vases, urns, or other items for my room. Also websites with ideas for a French Colonial theme ideas are also accepted. Thanks! P.S. No pink or black, I do not like the modern French theme. THX

  1. What you are looking for is often called Louis XIV, French Baroque or Renaissance style. There are a lot of places to look for reproductions which will save a lot of money over buying antiques. You can find them almost anywhere by doing some research. Home Decorators catalog sells some nice furniture reproductions. You can find inexpensive bedding in damask patterns at Domestications and Brylane home. I have my own bedroom decorated in this style and it can take many forms. Study the Chateaux along the Loire valley in France for more examples because the style embraces a lot more than what the movie portrayed and replicating it on a budget is not that difficult if you know what you want to achieve.

  4. Here are a few things to consider: http://www.carefairs.com/product.asp?dept_id=4013&pfid=34892 http://www.water-fountains-and-garden-decor.com/leaf-candle-holders5.html http://www.midwesthomedecor.com/product.asp?dept_id=4054&pfid=35027 Check local discount stores, such as Ross, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, and Marshalls for accessories. If you see something that might work, but the color is wrong, goldleafing is not very difficult. You can buy the "glue" and leaf at Michael's and other craft stores. Also consider looking at "Baroque" items. http://www.homedecodirect.com/Baroque_Mirror_Candle_Sconce_shelf_p/hd21310.htm Look at the blue version of this bedspread. http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Grantham-Quilt-Set/2279627/product.html Maybe you can have some accent pillows made with gold fabric and a rich blue velvet. Sounds like a fun project. Enjoy.
