What type of paint should I use for untreated wooden bedroom furniture for the kids? Should I prime it first?

- we'll i think u should use pink for a girl or purple and blue or lime green for the boy
- untreated wood is perfect to just paint on emulsion or matt or whatever it is your using you dont need to do anything to it before hand just give it a bit of a rub down with fine sandpaper and dust it off then go ahead and paint away!!!!
- all paint should be lead free! primer i dont think comes lead free but i know that gloss paint does as i have used it my self and u can get in most diy stores. the lead poisions the children it they tend to chew!!! or pick paint and put it in their mouth
- Dutch boy kids room paint is awesome, its scrubbable, has no paint odor and covers in 1 coat, you might have to go with 2 coats with that wood.
- use primer, then undercoat after sanding lightly, apply one more coat of undercoat, sand, gloss, whoa, graet job remeber to check for runs
- Crayola (the crayon makers) do some awesome paint colours. They stock them in B&Q, don't need to prime with them either.
- Firstly make sure any paint you use is lead-free. Primer would be good as untreated wood soaks up a lot of paint. Primer tends to be slightly thicker and won't be absorbed as much and also it will provide a much better bond between the wood and the paint. I have just used a semi-gloss water-based acrylic latex, which I applied using a dollar store small foam roller to paint an old dresser. It was wood-grained laminate, which I primed with an universal primer. I am pleased with the result.
- You should prime the furniture first. Not only will this ensure that the paint will adhere evenly, but it will also seal the wood. That's good. As for the type of paint, I'd recommend a latex paint. They are resistant to moisture and easy to clean. It's also easy to clean off of your hands and paintbrushes/rollers.
- Paint it first with white primer (primer doesn't contain lead). Then choose a color to your liking but use latex acrylic paint, not oil based. Make sure you get a high gloss or semi-gloss finish. That will make the furniture look better and will be easier to clean. Have your kids help you pick out the colors and if they're old enough let them help paint, too!
- ask in any good paint shop. check the voc content, the lower the better. water based paint may be best but not as hard wearing. Farrah and Ball, expensive, but probably the best paint available. dont think lead is included in paint anymore.
