What would be a good decor scheme for a bedroom shared by 3 year old girl and baby boy?

We're having a baby boy and for the time being (until we get a bigger place) my 3 year old daughter and he will share a room. My daughter already has everything decked out in pink and full of princess accessories. I haven't bought my crib set or anything like that for my boy yet. How could I have them share a room and have it all tie in together so it doesn't look like one side is for a boy and one for a girl? I'm also looking for relativley affordable options, since they will probably only share for one year at the most. And my paint options are limited. I would have to go with something nuetral so I can easily paint it back to white before we move again, or maybe put up a border to dress up the walls.

  1. You can't go wrong with prime colors and animals.
  2. Try a nature theme. Blues, pinks, purples, greens and yellows with rainforest animals, farm life or underwater life is gender non specific. These themes will "grow up" with your kids and not be outdated in a few years.
  3. Greens and yellows, like a meadow, or with some trees.
  4. I'd go with light blue (sky) and fluffy white for clouds. Wall paper and stencils will add color and cover-up.
  5. First you can pretty much use any color of paint. There's a trick I learned. Use a light grey primer to cover the walls first before you paint it white again. Just remember to lightly sand any areas that have too much paint texture. On the theme you could go with a castle them you know prince and princess to save some money. Pink is hard to work with in a boys room. You could do a pastel retro thing with lines. Another thing is you could go with a "outdoor or in the park" theme. Use pink and blue flowers, balls, have some grass and a sky with fluffy white clouds.
  6. I have a 6 year old grandson, a 3 year old grandson, and a 1 year old granddaughter, they all love Dora and Diego from Nickelodeon or Sesame Street characters with Elmo being the favorite. Children usually love the bright colors with red coming in first.
  7. How about a fish / aquarium theme?
