do you belive this is ok for a parent to do???

ok so when I was 7 years old my dad bought me a bedroom set. im 16 now and i want to sell it. its really little kid ish. a women is going to buy it for 350 dollars. my dad belives he deserves the money for it but i think since he bought it for me to use for the past 8 years i deserve the money. it was my bedroom furniture. i kind of think of it as if you were to buy an expensive gift for someone and 8 years later they decide to sell it. they get the money. not you. what do you think??? i told him i would use it to buy more furniture but he said no

  1. if he GAVE it to you, it is now yours to do what you want with it. the money is yours!
  2. I think you should split it. It's not like you paid for it. You really don't deserve anything.
  3. Well if you are still living at home, which I assume you are since you are 16, he gets the money. Unless you sell it and buy another bed in which you will be sleeping on.....
  4. No, he bought it, and he feeds you, so it's his money.
  5. You're a child. Your dad gets the money but he should use it buy you new bedroom furniture. It wasn't a gift. It was a necessity for your well-being. When I left home, I left most of my furniture at my parent's house because it was their furniture that I used. It wasn't my furniture.
  6. I agree with you. But he is your dad and you probably still live with him, why don't you tell him you'll give him like $100 so you can keep the rest? Then I'll think it's fair......
  7. I would assume that your dad bought it for your bedroom to furnish it and that it wasn't a gift? If so, it is part of your dad's property and it should be him that receives money for it and not you!
  8. I agree with you to be honest, but maybe he is worried you won't spend the money on new furniture. Reassure him you will, if you are not going to bother buying new bedroom furniture with the money then, your dad should get the cash.
  9. You are 16 and living in your dad's home. He got you this bedroom set to use there. You are entitled to nothing!!! He deserves every penny.
  10. I BELIEVE, that the bedroom set is yours and you should be able to keep the money. If you father is hurting for cash, give him $50 and call it good.
  11. unless you are buying a new bed, it's his money
  12. It is not a gift. It is furnishings for your father`s home. He bought them not as a gift but to provide for you. Otherwise I guess you could have slept on the floor these past nine years. I would bet the only reason he is selling it is because you have whined and complained that the furniture is little kiddish and you have demanded that he buy you something new. That $350 would go toward something new for you. So you win either way. You have used the living room furniture since you have had it also. If your dad decided to sell it when you went to college and get something different would you call and demand the money for it? Stop being such a spoiled little brat and realize what it takes to provide for a child these days. Especially a demanding one like you.
  13. if he sold it do u still feel he would have to give u the money? he bougth it cause u needed it not as a gift. personnaly i think your dad should get the money if i were him i'd turn around and sell it myself. sorry i couldnt be on your side for this one
  14. I think your dad deserves the money if you are living at home....unless you plan on using it to buy your next bedroom set. Otherwise he deserves it because I am sure he will probably have to buy your next one which will be more than the 350 you make off this one.
  15. Take it outside, set it on fire, and as it is going up in smoke, say to your dad "there is your 350 dollars" just kidding.
  16. Legally, parents only have to provide: food, clothing, shelter, a bed, warmth, hot running water. Everything else, like bedroom sets are a privilege. And since you are not 18, you don't legally own anything. Perhaps though, you and your dad could go to a consignment shop and you could use that $350 to buy some real nice bedroom furniture?
