Bedroom Talk

OK, sorry another questio about painting! this time, its about what colour to paint a kids bedroom!?

Its quite a small room, and i dont want to do the ordinary blue (they are both boys, so thats too boring and original!). I want something a bit different, any ideas?

Public Comments

  1. baby blue <-- there is a reason why they call it that
  2. safgrem blue is nice
  3. I think it really depends on what kind of things they like. Also, how old are they?
  4. Bright blue and mix of pink here and there
  5. im a kid and i would love to have sports wall paper or paint it red or green
  6. I`d go turquoise, dark blue and white....
  7. ask the boys their favorite colors if they are old enought, if not then brown or green.
  8. What do they like? Green, yellow are usually good and don't have to be garish.
  9. go w/ the lighter blue and sponge paint a light green over it
  10. take some pictures of the room and put them on your paint program and see what colors look nice i use gimp
  11. My friend Nivvy's little brother has a pretty cool room. The top part is a sky blue, and the bottom is grass green. The blue part has little white clouds and the green part has sprigs of grass popping up every now and then. On the border of the green and blue, there are little lines of trains going around the room. It's really cute, and he really likes it. But then, I don't know how old your kids are......
  12. One element to explore when trying to make your small boys room look bigger is the color palette. You don't need to only use light paint color when making up for the size in a room. You are able to have color while still making the boys room appear more open by painting it with colors that reflect the same brightness, or using a monochromatic color scheme. You may even try a blue color scheme, or if you desire more color try green, blue and purple that all give off the same tone and intensity. To add depth and drama, think about painting an opposing wall a deep intense hue - this makes it seem further away and adds an appealing charm. For wall colors, pale tones like gray-blue will make an overall more spacious appearance since they make the walls appear to recede. But then if that sounds too drab, don't despair cool colors like purples, blues and greens also recede so you can have your decorative colors without making the room appear small sized. These techniques allow decorating a small boys room to be easy and effortless. Use your imagination and creativity and you will have a small boys room that is big on style in no time.
  13. plain white walls always look good to me, but if u want something different try purple or green.
  14. Why not paint it white but use a kitchen/bathroom paint (so can be washed) and then use masking tape to mark out 3 bands of colour running horizontally round the room. a thick band at the bottom - start about 15 inches from the skirting board - paint it in a deep blue but not too dark another band around the middle of the room in a lighter shade the final band up towards the ceiling in a lighter blue than middle, the band should be thickest at the bottom and get narrower towards the top It is deceiving as it makes the room looker longer and taller with the stripes.
  15. Khaki green and a pale blue?
  16. Two opposite walls pale yellow, the third wall light green, and the fourth wall a medium beige or mustard color. I did my living room in these colors and everybody compliments me. Some paint stores, like Wally-world, have paint swatches that show complimentary colors. Just remember that the paint will dry a little darker than the swatches.
  17. Yes, May i suggest: Get a special painter to Draw Trucks and/or cars and stuff amusing to boys in the room? To go simple, If the boys are old enough to Walk, and not eat everything in their hands.... (THIS IS THE BEST IDEA TO GET CLOSER TO THE CHILDREN) Give the boys a paint brush, and a mask or something so That it prevents them from Breathing in to much of the fumes paint give off, [BAD FUMES]..... Just tell them hold a washrage over their nose, Softly... Won't selficate them or anything, It'll just help them not breathe in the Dangerous fumes. Anyways- Give the boys a washrage to put over their faces (NOSE) , And let the boys paint their own room, Get these colors: BLUE, RED, YELLOW, GREY, PURPLE, ORANGE, GREEN. and any other colors. Even pink, its always said a guy who wears pink or has walls painted pink ect, ect. is a brave strong man/guy/kid/boy. Anyways- Get all the colors under the sun! And give the two (or more) boys a paintbrush, and take everything out of the room and put plastic over the Floor, get a long T-shirt that you dont mind geting Messy... And let the boys get Creative. They'll surely grow closer to you and i know it sounds Desastorus... But it might acctually come Out pretty nice! Hope i helped.
  18. how about cantaloupe orange? It is a nice bright color and gender neutral. You can liven things up with lime green bean bags and blankets and such. I know it sounds tacky but we did our small basement playroom this way and it was actually really cool.
  19. How about a camoflage effect? I sure would of liked it as a kid!
  20. Use a light color. I think a light green with sage green accents would look great on the walls. From that paint choice, you could do a jungle theme, hunting theme, a very contemporary theme with stainless steel accessories, go with very dark or very light wood furniture..... many many options. A very cute room for boys would be to use a subtle stripe pattern on bedding and window treatments...........or polka dots in browns and greens....maybe even throw in some blue polka dots or stripes as well. Then........orange would be a great accent color for a big fluffy rug and extra decorative pillows for the beds. Also, dont forget the big flat underbed plastic storage boxes to slip under the bed for storing shoes and art work and keep sakes...........to reduce room clutter. What a fun project to get to do....you must be a great mom to put so much thought and time into your boys rooms....best of luck! :o)
  21. If you have Home Depot where you live, call or go into the store and request that one of their interior design consultants come out to your home with samples and go over ideas with you. We did this a few years ago and it was free. Turned out the consultant totally agreed with the colors we'd basically decided on before she arrived at our home, but to have the reinforcement for our choice was comforting. After painting, the place looked great!!
  22. first since it is a small room i would go with a light color. dark colors make a room look smaller. i painted my grandsons bed room a sage green and then used one wall and painted it a baby blue. i purchased bed spread and curtains to match. they had baby blue, sage green, and white stripes. purchased white cubes and a white desk all his accessories are white in the room including trim work, the white lightens up the room and makes it look more spacious.
  23. use a light colour to make the room look bigger pale yellow or pale green
