I have a large bedroom with a 12 ft. vaulted celing. The walls are painted a dove gray.?

I would like to get some ideas what accent colors would look good with my all "gray" large bedroom. What kind and color comforters as well as curtains/draperies would compliment the gray walls. My furnitures are cherry finish, and I have Brazillian cherry wood floors. I'm more on the traditiona/transional style (not contemporary). Can I get some decorating ideas on how I can trasform my gray bedroom to a cozy, warm, relaxing haven. Appreciate any great ideas. The gray walls in my bedroom seem to change shade: during the day, it's more of a blue gray, but at night, the color can change to a tint of a purple gray due to the brazillian cherry wood floor, which adds richness to the dullness of the gray walls in the large room. I like the suggestions of accenting the bedroom with blues, lilacs, and/or purples. I was thinking about using a dark plum purple duvet cover in the winter by accenting the bedroom with deep purples and lighter shades of puples, but for the spring and summer, I would like to change my bedding color by getting a comforter (in a shade of hydrangea blue) to give freshness to the room by changing out my accent colors maybe to the light blue hues with some silver. I would like to keep one set of curtains though. What color curtains would be good that would compliment well with dark plum purple as well the lighter blue color? Any ideas would help. Thanks!

  1. Pinks & black can add a nice compliment to the grey. It's a classic "Breakfast at Tiffany's" type color scheme. If you want something more eye catching try turqoiuse - it will give a carribean/nautical feel, especially if you have white trim. A warm yellow or pale apricot orange can also look nice with greys and will warm up the room, French Countryside style. Good luck with your room - I hope it turns out to be fabulous!
  2. The best way to get warmth in a room is to use deep rich colors. Navy goes really well with gray as does purple. You could even use both colors to make the room pop more. Your cherry wood will create warmth when paired with dark rich colors. You can also go with sage green and accent with navy or a dark hunter green. Bedding: I always use down comforters with a duvet cover. This allows you to change the colors you use in your room much easier. Drapes/Curtains: I love simple and taking two different colored sheer curtains and draping them together looks great. Play with the fabric some till you get the hang of draping it. I sometimes use double stick tape on the rods to prevent slipping.
  3. I would say light shades of blue and purple (or lilac), with accents in warm colors -- pink, orange, red, -- all over the place. The light blue would be like your base color for curtains or draperies, with a darker one for the bed, or vice versa. I'd use light blue curtains with red ties, and something lilac or purple on the bed. Blue and lilac are known to promote relaxation, and help you meditate.
  4. Burgundy. If your gray is a blue gray, use blues. If a yellow gray, use golds. If a brown gray, use browns. Red. Black. You might consider painting an accent wall. Gray is sort of difficult to work with; it really depends on what shade of gray you've got... green gray - use sage. Purple.
