How to make dark cherry bedroom furniture modern?
My parents are giving me a dark cherry bedroom suite (dresser, mirror, chest, and nightstand) that is fairly modern (black handles, smooth lines). But the bed I'm getting is slightly lighter in color and more classic looking. See the link below. http://www.thebedroomspace.com/furniture/images/T/PEDIMENT-POSTER-BED.jpg I want to make a canopy to drape over the posters of the bed so it will disguise most of the poles. Like this.. http://interiordec.about.com/library/graphics/interiors/scdl0201-077.jpg How can I make this modern? What color scheme pairs well with dark cherry furniture?

- Red/raspberry and cream together would work well with cherry wood furniture. You could paint one wall in the red shade... http://bostonreb.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/mezzo-modern-bedroom-2.JPG Or for a modern twist on the 'feature wall' idea, why not paint your ceiling red and keep the walls cream or white. Or you could for for something fresher like sage or duck egg blue. This shade of blue works so nicely with dark stained wood, but would also work with your slightly lighter coloured bed. I love brown and duck egg blue together... http://applerugs.co.uk/images/DM01.jpg Or you could embrace the retro feel that cherrywood creates and decorate with earthy greens and browns... there is a great cross-over between retro and modern looks, and you can achieve this by dressing the room with accessories such as a contemporary chrome arc lamp... http://www.velvetstore.co.uk/product.asp?CtgID=3665&ProdID=1105 http://www.idealhomemagazine.co.uk/inspiredecor/decorating/bedroom/Dark_Walnut_creates_rich_warm_tones_article_105261.html http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/images/uploads/j_wall1.jpg http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/images/uploads/j_wall1b.jpg Hope this gives you some ideas! x
