Any ideas for decorating a teen bedroom on a budget using the colors blue and brown?

My room has this comforter in it http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Microfiber-Stripe-Reversible-3-piece-Comforter-Set/3442836/product.html and my walls are a light shade of blue. My room is also pretty small. I need some ideas for decorating my room, I really don't know what to put on the walls. Any ideas?

  1. you could use the stripe theme from the comforter on the walls by putting masking tape up in parallel lines ( horizontal is best) paint different colours between two rows of masking tape, recoat, let dry and carefully peel off masking tape, You can even add more colours on top of your stripe(s). Use the same shades as the comforter for total designer results!
  2. Blue and brown are very in these days. Have you thought about faux finishing the walls with some pin-striping or strie. Take a look at some of the examples on this site and you might gain some inspiration. http://www.coloradofauxpainting.com/fauxpainting.html For more decorative faux finish painting tips, visit http://www.coloradofauxpainting.com/ For all of the colors from every major paint supplier, visit http://www.coloradofauxpainting.com/fauxpaintingcolor.html and scroll to the bottom of the page. Once you click on them, an interactive color viewer will launch so you can just click and play. Have fun.
  3. Something Organic, Black and white photos, they will support the strong graphic theme without repeating it. hope this helps :)
  4. I would get 3 blank canvasses from a craft store (wait for them to go on sale and there are usually coupons in the Sunday newspapers, too). Paint all of them either light blue or dark brown. Then take some blue and brown scrapbook paper and glue it on in a horizontal stripe in the middle of the canvas. You can have a pattern in the paper as long as the colors compliment your comforter. You can also hot glue some feathery trim on each side of the paper, for a more finished look. -Or- paint all 3, but only do the scrapbook paper stripe on the outside ones. On the middle canvas, glue scrapbook paper on all or most of it. Then, get a wood letter, the first letter of your first name..and paint that blue or brown and glue it on top of the scrapbook papered canvas. Hang them horizontally, in a straight line over your bed. Here is the idea I am going with, but I couldn't find one with just 3: http://littlewindowshoppe.com/littlewindowshoppe/d/3593-1/Wall-Art2.jpg This picture may give you an idea of what I am talking about, with the monogram art: http://www.ehow.com/how_4772199_affordable-monogram-art.html (But of course much bigger than that). You could even staple fabric onto the canvasses, if you did not want to paint and glue scrapbook paper. Another idea, if your name is short, you could put your whole name on the art, one letter per canvas. You can really do whatever you want, just use these pics for your inspiration. I love decorating with canvasses. Have fun!
  5. For fun wall ideas go to wallpops.com or google removable wall decals, and tons of sites will pop up where you can buy removale stripes, circles, squares or most anything you want in all kinds of colors.
  6. A canopy bed may sound exotic and out of reach. But really, a canopy bed can be made with a simple swag of fabric or by constructing an elaborate draped treatment.
  7. That is a great comforter to start with. One fun way to put extra color in a room is to use scrapbook paper (Michaels & Jo Anns), wall paper, or wrapping paper. I lined the back of my book case w/ thick wrapping paper and it looked classy. You can cover cans with different scrap book papers for pens, pencils and other supplies. You can cover shoe boxes with coordinating material or paper. Any box that works will do. Then I would search for blue or natural colored accessories. Take your time doing this. My daughter's room is orange, pink and green. I bought bright orange paper and used ribbon with all three colors. I put it on a plain bulletin board that I bought at IKEA. You can find them for a good price at Walmart too. Another good source is: http://www.createforless.com. I bought 3 for a cheap price. So far I've done one for my friend in soft pink and ivory and the one for my daughter. I got lime green curtains for my daughter's room at Anna's Linens. They have a website too. www.annaslinens.com. Since you have so much color in your room I'd choose white curtains with maybe a brown or blue ribbon to tie them back. You can get plain curtains and sew or glue w/ fabric glue embellishments. My advice is to do small things at at time and before you know it your room will look like a designer came in. I hope this helped.
