Decorating kids bedroom on a budget?
Can anyone help me with ideas for decorating my niece's bedroom? The house is rented and the landlord will not allow us to paint the walls (right now they are UGLY wood pannel) ... The carpet is OLD yellow stained and matted. looks about like this but with more wear and tear ... http://www.sansomshagrugs.com/images/yellow507.jpg I might can bargain with the landlord about the carpet, and maybe replace it with somekind of laminate tile or something similar. But I am at a loss as to how to spruce up these walls. Her furniture consists of ::: A toddler bed that is pink and white, some shelves that have Disney princesses on them, a little tikes pink plastic chair and matching toy box, and a dresser that is wooden. She loves Blue's clues, but I think we better stick with the pink and white theme. Remember that we are ON A BUDGET, and she is 5. Someome please help out. .... please

- I have seen sheets or curtains on the walls to in place of paint. You could try looking that up.
- um.... this is a toughy maybe with the walls you can hang up some pictures or maybe wall paper its not paint so.. ya never know or you could show the land lord how ugly the wod panneling is and he might change his mind other than that i have no idea
- You could find a cheaper fabric that she loves and hang them from the walls like curtains. You can do different colors, mix it up ect.
- IKEA has really inexpensive, really long curtains, and a kind of curtain rod that is actually a wire that is very easy to install and super cheap. You can cover all the walls that way as long as your daughter can learn not to pull on them! IKEA also has good deals on rugs and other decor that might spruce up the room for her!
- hmm. yes. i think you should use curtains on the walls. the parts that you can't use frames and long mirrors. but use long curtains and behind them put nice pictures or art that she made or a big picture and sometimes open the curtains. that would be cute! you can also have long shelves and other things like that. but don't over do it with the curtains because if they cover all of the walls, it will look really ugly and probably worse than the panels. so mix up everything and on the walls use: 1. long curtains with pictures made by the 5 year old or frames behind (creative) 2. use frames and maybe have an art wall with all the things she made 3. use posters with nice quotes, princesses, songs or anything that she likes n them (wall paper type, buh not really) 4. dont cover all teh walls with alot of thigns, it'll look like a flea market :P. put long mirrors like 3 in a row arounmd the room. whiteboards and other things would also look clean and nice on the walls Don't OVER DO it. if there's too much stuff, the wooden pals would just look better hoped you liked my ideas :)
- Boy, I'll never forget my first house with my girls, it was terrible. If the carpet can't be replaced, try getting the landlord to at least have it cleaned. I don't care how ugly things are, they always look better clean. Go to your nearest fabric store and buy cheesecloth, it's very cheap, several yards for a couple of bucks.Make sure you get several yards so you can gather it and make it look full. Take the wall that will be behind her bed and dye the cheesecloth pink, you can buy a pack or two of Rit dye and do it at your local Laundry mat if you don't want to use your own machine. you need to run a loop in the top of the cloth as to run a curtain rod through, if you don't have a sewing machine, use wonder under and iron yourself a pocket in the cloth. although we are not going to use curtain rods. (too much money) At the top of the wall near the ceiling nail a nail every 3 feet. then get a safety pin and a ball of twine. knot a piece of twine to the safety pin and run the safety pin through the loop and then twist it around the nails every 3 feet. No one will know what you used, the curtain itself will cover up the nails and twine. This will be a beautiful back drop for her bed, cover that entire wall with it. This way it will take your focus off the rest of the walls. then buy her a cute pink rug to go beside her bed on both sides. For the rest of the walls, add some shelves, make them yourself out of boards and brackets from your local hardware like Home Depot or Lowe's. Paint them bright white and add her pretty little girly things on them, it will once again help the hide those ugly walls. buy her a couple of large posters for the other wall. You can do all of this for under $60.00 and you will have a room you are proud of, and she will feel like the little Princess she is. Good luck, I know you can do this. Hope this helps.
