How many people to 1 bd in Utah?
My husband and I will be moving to utah soon. We are considering renting a 1 bedroom just to keep our costs as low as possible until we get settled. We have 2 children one who is almost 3 and a 1 1/2 year old. We would put the kids in the bedroom and set up the living room as our own room. Obviously not ideal for entertaining but entertaining doesn't fit into our low budget plans anyway. I just want to know what is allowed cause we definitely dont want to be kicked out for that. I appreciate any help/information you can offer. what about limits on people/sq ft?

- There is no law that indicates how many people can sleep in one room or in one bed. Remember a living room is just called a living room. It can also be a bedroom.
- Most housing/residency codes only allow 2 persons per bedroom. Both you and the landlord are held accountable for obeying that law. You need a 2 bedroom and if you get pregnant again, a 3 bedroom.
- The current occupancy to bedroom ratio in Utah is 2.5:1 which represents two adults with a "minor" child. Unfortunately in your case, you have one child too many to qualify for a one-bedroom apartment. You should be looking for a 2-bedroom apartment. Good luck!
- I believe that would be up to the landlord. Years ago my husband and I were in a one bedroom with one child that had the bedroom. We slept on a fold out couch in the living room.
