Wood Furniture Colors In Bedroom?

My family recently bought a new house. My bedroom is moderately sized, and square. It has 2 windows (Next to each other on the same wall), and one large closet. My room color is a light yellow. I am to recieve a dark wood (Dark brown, almost black-colored), L-Shaped desk. The design is very simple, flat, and sturdy. The drawer pulls are simple metal, and there are no wooden carvings anywhere. It does not have a hutch. However, I have a light colored dresser, purchased separately from the desk. (I bought the dresser a year before the desk.). The dresser is moderately large, with 6 drawers and 1 cabinet, and a mirror with small shelves that is placed on top. I did not purchase the dresser or desk as a set. Each piece was purchased separately. The only way the desk and dresser would fit comfortably in my room would be to set them next to each other. However, I'm concerned that the two intensely varying wood pieces would clash horribly. Please suggest any ideas or tips about my situation. Thank you. Thanks for the idea, Shan, but I already ran that idea over with my mom, and she said no. :(

  1. I'd paint the dresser to match your new desk. Maybe you could even take one of the desk drawers to the hardware store and get an exact match that way. To paint your dresser: 1. Lightly sand it. 2. Paint it using Floor Paint. (Floor paint is more durable than wall paint.) 3. After the paint dries, give it a coat of polyurethane to seal it. For a finishing touch, I would replace the hardware on your dresser to match your desk...at least as close a match as you can find. After you're done, you'll have a beautifully matched set.
  2. It might look fine together, but..to blend them without really doing anything to the dresser, I would change the hardward to a dark colour similar to the desk..then I would look for a wooden tray or desk organizer in a lighter wood tone similar to the dresser...that should blend them together somewhat. http://www.chiphi-pi.org/b2b/pics/Wooden_Box__Wooden_Desktop_Organizer.jpg something like this for example
