26x22 master bedroom...what do I do with all that space?

I bought a house that has a HUGE master bedroom. My theme is island. I put a pastel green on the walls, I purchased and put up a huge island mural, I chose white furniture. I just want the whole hotel, luxury theme. The only problem is there is so much space I am looking for ideas to fill the room. One idea is I plan to install a kitchenette to get the true hotel room theme. Any other ideas or websites that have cool furniture, accessories for my theme and large space???

  1. A kitchenette involves plumbing, which is expensive, but if you can afford it, go for it. I would't want a kitchenette in my bedroom because of the cooking odors...but maybe a bar... There's no reason to not have a seating alcove, you could create a seating area with a small sofa or a couple large chairs, a coffee table and some plants. I can also imagine some screening of some sort as well as possibly netting. One nice thing about a very large room (even better for an island theme) is you can use very large plants - be sure to be protective of your flooring as plant pots can damage flooring. I usually use multiple layers of containers starting with a cork disk on the bottom and then having two or three pieces of vintage dishware and silver platters so there's no chance moisture will get to my floor. I also "mulch" the top of the soil with interesting items like (well cleaned) shells, pebbles, glass shards or gems or anything non-organic and durable. Review design mags which are often dealing with very large rooms, you can "divide" them into smaller rooms by how you arrange furniture, use area rugs, etc. Even large rooms can be made to feel intimate by how you place furniture and create the energy flow.
  2. break it up into different areas. move your bed at an angle, instead of flush with the wall. create a sitting area, you can use sofas if it's that big make sure your furniture fits the scale of the room. (big room, big furniture) make sure not to fill it with lots of tiny pieces of furniture, it will look cluttered. Some resorts have a hot tub in the room. http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/01/32/4d/ca/bedroom-hot-tub.jpg
