How many people can live in a 1 bedroom apartment in CT legally?

My 7th month old son and my fiancee and I want to move into a one bedroom apartment is it legal in CT. Two bedrooms are much more expensive and my son sleeps in his crib in our room anyway.

  1. Most states allow a young child and two adult parents in a one bedroom-but the final decision rests in the landlords hands.
  2. SOUNDS LEGAL TO ME 5 WOULD BE PUSHING IT
  3. Not sure. In Santa Ana, CA, you need 50 square feet per person. That means a 1,000 square foot 2bd apartment could hold 20 people. I don't think you are anywhere near the limits. Call your local housing authority if you think a potential landlord is discriminating against you. Your local zoning or code enforcement office would know for sure.
  4. When I went to rent an apartment in ohio I was told that it was 2 people per bedroom. But I don't think a lot of landlords enforce this because my friend had a two year old little boy and she was trying to rent a one bedroom and the apartment complex didn't have any available they only had a studio apartment empty and they told my friend that she get a studio for her and her son. So she rented one because the rent was a lot cheaper and she couldn't find anything else in the area. But a few weeks later she found out she was pregnant and she didn't say anything to the landlord right away because she didn't have no money to move and she finally went and talked to the landlord to see if they had any bigger apartments or if they would let her stay in the studio for a few months after she had the baby until she could find somewhere else to rent. Her landlord didn't have any bigger apartments open but she said that she could stay in the studio until her baby was a year old because they don't count babies as living in the household until they are a year old. My friend ended up staying in the studio until her son was about 8 months old. It was very small but she didn't really have a choice. I don't know the law in CT but I think that most landlords will allow it. But I would be honest because if you lie they could evict you for not being honest.
