I have antique wood bedroom furniture. How can I update the look?
Our bedroom furniture is antique but in great condition. I have a long dresser with a huge mirror and a tall dresser. How can I update the look? Can you paint wood? It also has a shiny finish on top.

- You really do NOT want to paint over antique wood furnature. It will totally ruin it.
- I agree that you shouldn't deface antique furniture if it is in good condition...I would think eventually you will regret doing it. Your best bet if you don't enjoy it anymore is to sell it to someone who will love it, and use that money to get what you want. If you can't get rid of it, simply decorate around it. Most styles these days are on the eclectic side, so use it as the background of the room, the same way you use neutrals. Update the pieces with more modern accessories on top of the dresser...a sculptural vase or figurine, or maybe even a table runner. You also might be able to remove the mirror for storage, and replace it with a modern style hanging mirror above the dresser.
