Teen room help?! =[?
I asked this in the Home+Garden section, and didn't seem to be getting very appropiate responses. So I came to the beauty and style section. My mother bought a black velvet bedding set [http://cgi.ebay.ca/7PC-BLACK-VELVET-SATIN-COMFORTER-SET-BED-IN-A-BAG-QUEEN_W0QQitemZ260194133501QQihZ016QQcategoryZ20469QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem] but it's too plain! I'm a preppy girl who loves fashion, and I don't want a dark bedroom when it doesn't reflect my personality at all. My furniture is dark [looks like mahagony] and has gold pully-thingys. My walls are white, and I'm not painting any of it. Any suddgestions to glam up this room? http://cgi.ebay.ca/7PC-BLACK-VELVET-SATIN-COMFORTER-SET-BED-IN-A-BAG-QUEEN_W0QQitemZ260194133501QQihZ016QQcategoryZ20469QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Sorryy. I was thinking I could contrast my nickname since elementary [Princess] into it. Since it looks like there's a gold fringe, and the gold on my dresser set, would gold accents [throw pillows, a crown rug, chandelier] be ok? I could also use a light pink with it.

- How about going to target and buying white pillows and putting white little pillows in front on the bed. To lighten it up.
- Add lots of bright colors like hot pink in the form of accessories - pillows, wall art, etc. Too bad you don't want to paint the walls because a good wall color could really make things pop. You could get a little throw or coverlet to go over the end of the bed too in a contrasting color. If you don't like bright colors, soft pastels look good against black too.
- Pillows, Scarves & more can help. Posters. Pictures. A thin blanket to cover the top? Buy a new one yourself & tell her thanks but it was depressing? Ask her to please return it? Your mom is going with more traditional old world looks. Maybe she is trying more mature pieces because she feels you will grow into it? Good luck! Hope this helps.
- go to pbteen.com that should help.
- from the colour of the set (black), to the gold trimming and its luxe fabric, and from the description that your room uses deep colours like mahogany, i think it's best that you stay with a rich, luxurious theme (ultra bright and funky won't work.) if you're willing to spend a bit of cash: - for the bed: brighten it up using some coloured pillows e.g. reds, burnt oranges, cream, rich greens, golds etc. Raw silks, brocades, beaded pillows would look good. -for the floor: do you have floorboards or carpet? if you have floorboards you can always throw a carpet down if you have one, e.g. persian rug, or a more furry one. once again, use rich colours, such as red, or you could use creams. -silk curtains are fantastic. if your room is pretty plain, colour wise, you could try magenta silk curtains, either in a raw silk or in a sheer, floaty one.....*drools* ** too expensive? -do you have a chair in your room? drape a nice piece of fabric, once again in a bright, yet luxurious colour/fabric on the side -you could always buy a print and put it up on your walls. I suggest a print of a famous artwork, or a photograph, something nice/interesting/evocative of a particular mood or aesthetic (no lame pop/rock/stars; or novelty posters you're going to cringe at later on - trust me, my brothers did it.) framing it can help it look better, especially if its a bit worn around the edges... if you're absolutely desperate for some artwork, get a good quality fashion magazine, carefully cut out the full page fashion photos (ones with no writing), put a frame around it and stick it on the wall lol... you could also get some pictures of your ancestors, black and white images-they would look striking and intelligent. -try 2nd hand stores/junk shops/op shops/shops that sell interesting yet cheap things for cool decorations e.g. vases, lamps, bowls, trinkets... very easy.... just remember, if you're going to stick to a theme, stick to it... nothing looks worse/tacky then something thats out of place.. think about what you got and what you need to build that theme... don't overload wiht too much junk.... be individual and strive for something you like and that also looks striking, so when your friends come over they say 'damn! her room is coooool!"
- I would get some throw pillows in whatever colors you like and accent the bed with them. Also, get curtains to match. Instead of painting, you can get some fabric in the same colors and fabric the wall. It looks like wallpaper without the headache and you don't have to do all of them. One would do.
- First of all, I'm preppy and I love it! I think it's very sophisticated, classy and mature. It has an elegance to it. If you do it the right way, all your friends will be jealous! I understand your love for fashion, but if that is the case, you should know how to make that work. I'd definitely paint the walls! A goldish color would make it pop! By adding neon and bright colors, I think you'd be making it look stupid. Coordinate it with contrasting, but eye-pleasing colors. Golds, silvers, coppers, ivory... the like. You could get artwork, wall decor and paintings with bold colors too. Going with what everyone else had was never my thing. So if you want hot pink and pink and pepto bismol pink, go for it! But tell your mom to return the comforter. I'm sure she'd rather get you something that you like and can work with rather than wasting money.
