How much do you spend on furniture for a teens bedroom?

My mum said we'd have like $1500 for my room, is that alot or not that much. I have to get EVERYTHING. We're moving to the US from New Zealand and just are getting one container for the ship so its just going to have hairlooms. I have to get a bed, desk, bookshelves everything. I'm 16.

1. Things are cheaper in America than New Zealand. I think that is enough if you budget it well. It just depends on what you are buying and how much you spend on each item. You can also try getting some vintage or gently used furniture that's cheaper.

3. If it was me, I would use the money to shop at a flea market, auction, or other type of used place. Your money will go a lot further. 1. You can bargain for the prices you want 2. You will find real furniture instead of cheap, pressed wood product furniture. 3. You will find unique pieces, from all eras, not just antiques. 4. You can often get everything in one day of shopping, especially if your event is really large. *BUT if you don't find what you like on that one trip, don't settle for things you don't like! Be patient and a beautiful room will emerge over time. These kind of events are mostly in the warm weather, and it is winter here, so you might have to wait until springtime to attend a really big flea market. That could be anywhere from 2-5 months until it is flea market weather, depending on where you are moving. If you can hang in there, I would say it is worth the wait! When you arrive here, go to a discount store, like Dollar General or Walmart, and buy an air mattress and a bunch of hangers and a few laundry baskets. All useful and can help you organize until you get to shop for your real furniture.
