tips on decorating teen bedroom?
Hey everybody, So im 15 years old and redecorating my bedroom. I just finished painting the walls (two walls lime gren and the other two bright blue) None of my furniture matches, but most of it is dark wood. I have a pretty big bedroom, but its a huge mess so it looks really small. Any tips for organizing or cheap remodeling ideas (keep in mind im working with the budget of a 15 year old with no steady job) Any tips/ideas would be a HUGE help. Much thanks.

- go to the local grocery store, out in the back they'll have a butt load of those plastic milk crates. Steal those and paint them to match. They make great organizers. P.S. Don't get caught stealing!
- well, just use what you've got. clear it out, put only what you want back in. paint the wood if you dont like how it looks, and buy blankets and sheets to match the walls.
- look for either gray or white furniture. i don't know if you have an Ikea in your area, but i would look there. Their furniture is cheap but very stylish. and if you want to play up the walls, i would use mirrors so the room looks bigger because you have used really vivid colors. hope i helped
- Versatility is the most important thing to consider if you dont wish to be bored of your room too quickly. Its easy to paint again but most people only want to go through that kind of chore one a few years. I suggest you try to go back and do something more subtle with your wall colors (off white / grey). It may not look great when the room is empty but think of it as a good foundation - a blank canvas. Also, you may not always be in a mood for lime and blue. Use fabrics (stretched on frames) and other decor items to bring color into the space - you'll be able to introduce new colors and elements easily. Fabric stores often sell great print fabrics cheap. Lighting can really play a big role too. Get some funky lights that either change colors automatically or let your control it by buying colored bulbs. Have fun, its your room and as long as you like it its a good design. Finally... dont do too much thats permanent. Dont glue stuff to the walls. Sometimes what you see on Trading Spaces should stay on Trading Spaces.
- Go for a Bohemian look. The only expense is the fabrics, the rest you can make yourself with ribbon, paint and stencils. Look for metalic paints and jem tone fabrics and paints. Sand and then repaint dark furniture to make it match. To organize use plastic bins under the bed, cover open shelves with fabric so it looks less cluttered and more decorated and buy some plastic drawers and cover them with fabric also to make them double over as decorative tables. Buy chairs lamps and rugs at discount stores. If you wait until October a lot of cute accesories will be on sale. Right now everything is full price for back to school shopping.
- Okay, so the folks let you paint, perhaps check out some cloth in a cool pattern that you could hang over the walls, or drape over some of the furniture...what about posters, etc.... I once stapled a whole bunch of paper egg cartons (the egg cups)all over a wall and painted it, it was a neat texture....there are cork panels that can be bought and tacked (or glued if the folks don't mind) on the wall and then you can tack things all over them....How about some lights? String up some extra Christmas lights around the ceiling....or check the local dollar store for some odd lights , I have seen pumpkins and chilli pepper looking lights.. Spencers has some odd stuff too, Is black light still considered cool? (it was 30 years ago LOL) Those plastic milk crate things are great for storage, again, check out the local dollar store..lots of sizes and colors Check out this link to some pictures of college dorm rooms for some ideas, these rooms are small, but some are neat..and most college kids have no money to work with for decorating..... http://ww3.fredonia.edu/reslife/students... or check out other college sites, a lot of these are done with "whatever" is laying around..
- easy cheap ways to organize: ~files ~clear boxes with labels ~ CLEAR OUT!!! have a HUGE garage/yard sale and not only will you gain money you will lose the clutter! if you want to save some money, you can try painting the furniture you already have (i think white might look good =] ) some good places to look for bed/room stuff is pottery barn teen, wal mart, dillards, and some furniture stores =] IDEAS ON FABRICS: if you use some floral patterns, don't use too many too close together. if you do it will make the room too busy to look at. polkadots and stripes can go together if you use the same colors with them. try mixing simple patterns with bold solids. good luck!! =]
- maybe you can buy some new furniture, u need a sofa or a comfy chair to sit in...if you get tired of sitting on your bed,the carpet can be pink, brown, light green, anything you like....no wooden floors,a new bed sheet that matches your bedroom colors, thats pretty much all for now!have fun remodeling your bedroom!!!
- sound proofing
- what i find is really helpful and really easy to clean up all ur clutter is to get one of those plastic container storing things, and stuff everything in the plastic drawers of the storing thing. It gets ur room real neat real fast. :-) hope all is well.
- hey. i would look in target or walmart for cute, cheap and awsome little accessories. like baskets and storage units. they'll probally have some very cute things to match your room at a cheap price. much luck!!!
