How to turn white girls bedroom furniture into boys furniture?

I have an old bedroom set from when I was a child that is still in great condition. The furniture is sturdy and finish is still mostly in good condition. There are some spots that are yellowing, but they are few and not worth redoing the whole thing over. It is now my little boy's furniture. What can I do to make it more masculine for him? The handles will need to be replaced as they are victorian style, but is there anything else i need to do to make it suitable for a little boy? Im not good at DIY projects but I will try if needed.

  1. paint it all black or blue :D
  2. Sell it on Craigslist and buy your son new furniture. You had new furniture as a kid, why does he deserve less?
  3. Does he like a certain car or truck. Use the the colors from that 3 colors. One for solid color and another for drawers and a color for the nobs. to make it pop.
  4. How about royal blue and red? You mix and match.
  5. as a decorator i never worry about children's furniture they will kill it any way cut off the knobs buy them superman sheets and hulk pillows they'll be fine when they will be pre teen you can decorate for them. if you dont mind posters or stickers you can use them too
  6. I definitely prefer white furniture myself, but I've found that furniture in a boy's room looks best a darker color. http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmguy/thmguyhbb/ http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmguy/thmguynub/ http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmguy/thmguysho/ http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmguy/thmguypar/ Hope this helped!
  7. Hey. My parents did this when i was a kid. What They Did was They Got a load of BIG stencils (From IKEA) & Then With Glow In The Dark Paint, Went over the stencils. And the Stencils were all of Stars & Rockets. So it was green & in the Night, it looked Magic! I would reccomend you painting it blue before-hand, though! (^_^)
  8. I say strip it down to bare wood and finish it in a classic wood finish like cherry, mahogany, or black walnut stain. Then give it several coats of clear lacquer (you can pick how glossy you want it). With enough coats of lacquer the wood will be very protected against scratches, liquids, and other things that kids might (literally) throw at it. I would leave the hardware alone, Victorian doesn't mean girlie per say, what do you think he would have used as furniture if he had been born a hundred years ago? If its done right, the furniture would not just look nice, but it would be timeless and unisex. He'd be able to use it for his own kids (no matter what sex they are) later on without having to repaint it and it would be easier than paint to touch up if he manages to ding it.
