Ideas on redesigning a teenage girl's bedroom?

I'm moving to another room in the house which my parents already planned it.. it's a perfectly squared room with cream coloured wall and red wood lining around doors and windows... a huge window and a built in wardrobe, they are planning to buy me a new bedroom set which is like this here: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/3/6/6/9/4/2/webimg/355305693_o.jpg Which means I'll have a new already done adult bedroom which I do not really want so I need ideas on how to glam up my room to a teenage girl's bedroom and look decent not tacky. So, what ideas or tips do you have that you think could work for my new room?

  1. Really Cool Project! I would suggest looking at the girls online section at JCPenny's or Sears. You don't have to buy from there, but you can definately get some really cool decorating and color ideas. Plan not for today, but for the next few years so you dont get bored and have to change it again. Good Luck
  2. Spending a lot of money on new furniture is like tossing your money away, Antique furniture can be found for the same price or less and can always be sold or traded on the secondary market for no loss, and if it gets couple scratches while you own it no one cares. Lighting makes a big difference, I would look for something that you can adjust the light level and a cool looking ceiling fan avoid those small halogen lights ( I know they look cool in the stores ) because they get way too hot in a small room. Also some clear glass corner shelves would be nice. Dark suede drapes to block out early morning light, I bought tan drapes and I had to return them because my whole room glowed a gold color in the morning a solid core door for noise is a good idea if you like your own music or put up a thick homemade hook & ladder carpet wall hanging on the door. Good Luck
  3. Teen glam..love this but depends on what you like..here are a few ideas..saris (great colours for a shabby chic look), funky scarves and chenky necklaces hanging on that mirror to young it up a bit..pics along the mirror edges..brightly coloured bins/accessories..changing the hardware to something age appropriate (save original in case you want to use it later)...colourful lighting..great pillows/covers (can be dressed up with ribbon/buttons by you)...faux rugs...add a great locker and put chalkboard paint down one side so your friends can sign it/draw on it/use to keep track of exams. Lots of ways to glam up furnishings you might not like. Just take the focus off the heavy wood furnishings and create focal points of other bright coloured or interesting items.
