  1. Choose two colors that you like and that go together well. Then use the blue painting masking tape to mark off verticle lines on your walls. You can choose whatever width of lines you want. We used 18". Start at the corner and measure out 18", run tape from floor to ceiling right at 18". Then measure out another 18" starting at the side of the tape that is closest to the wall you started at. What you are aiming for here is an exact distance between the tape. Keep this up around the room then when you are almost finished you can begin making small adjustments to your lines so you don't end up with that's like 5" wide. Oh, almost forgot when you go around a corner carry on around it. So if you go 13" until you get to the corner then go another 5" on the other wall. Now, that you've got the wall taped off choose one of the two colors and paint the first line. Leave the second line unpainted and paint the third line. Keep alternating lines and using the same paint. After the first color has dried, peel your tape and retape the lines for your second color. This time tape right on the edge of your first color and the original color of your walls. If you have any texturing on the drywall of your walls you will notice that your lines are not crisp and clean but pretty messy and fuzzy. Easy way out: ribbon. Choose a color of ribbon that sets off the colors of the stripes. Using an adhevsive fix the ribbon in straight lines from the floor to the ceiling directly over the lines of the paint job. Also, if you're planning on having a colorful room you could use multiple colors and styles of ribbon which really sets up the room to decorate however you want. We did this in our twins' room and it turned out great. Good Luck.
