painting bedroom two colors...a bad idea?
I was planning to paint my room (medium-sized, not a master bedroom) in two colors. A medium tan on two of the walls and olive greenish on the other two. thoughts on this? I started to think it might look weird, because it's not a large bedroom. My bedroom set is dark brown (almost black) and the light blue wall I have now contrasts too much with the dark furniture, making my room look small. Thanks for any suggestions!

- At first I was a little weird about it, but it sounds better than light blue.
- I like the idea - assuming that the same color walls adjoin, not opposite each other. I like the color choice as well.
- Nothing wrong with two colours but those are dark for a small room, and you already have a major component of the black/brown in your bedroom set. You'd be better off with one wall colour, the tan would be my choice, and then using a little more black/brown elsewhere in the room in smaller things like window coverings, a rug, cushions or pillows. What that does is make your eye move back and forth between the black/brown things, which makes your brain "see" a bigger space because the eye is moving around instead of stopping. You could also use a third colour in accent pieces like art or ornaments and if you can find a picture or two that has black/brown and tan and the third colour in it, that would look good. Olive green could work for the smaller items, or you could go with something brighter. I like seeing little hits of brighter colours in a room.
- If your room isn't very large I would stick to light shades of those colors, but I see no problem with combining two colors for any one room. I used three in my daughters room.
- put in a chair rail and put in one color above and one below
