Anybody here buy IKEA kids furniture before?

I'm a little peeved now that I found out my sons convertible crib was recalled in April. :( Now I'm trying to find something quickly (and cheap) until I find a bedroom set I really like. Any experience with IKEA childrens furniture? I was thinking he would like this because I could flip it upside down and make it like a little bed cave for him lol (he loves tents) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10123996 Oh god no... I don't sound like a popsicle mom do I? lol I just don't want to deal with this right now... I'm getting sick, the kid is getting sick and now I worry about putting him in that bed. Ugh.

  1. I have bought Ikea kids furniture. A toddler bed and toy box. Holds up well and you cant beat the prices!!
  2. You know I love you but you might want to step away from the freezer lest you turn into a popsicle
  3. You got to be careful, they do have some good quality stuff. I bought a dresser + desk for fairly cheap and they are both garbage. After 1 move we didn't dare try to move the dresser again. I still have the desk but it has no legs and the drawers are starting to fall apart lol. It's used as an arts + crafts desk since it's falling apart
  4. We got a bunk bed from Ikea and it is sturdy as hell, however I'm pretty sure it's going to be impossible to undo.
  5. Never bought from them before. Sorry but I can't help but ask what that bed is made of? Looks like popsicle sticks (no offense). I wouldn't buy it. And you can definitely find toddler beds MUCH cheaper than $199: http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Me-Toddler-Storage-Drawer/dp/B001AH78WK http://www.walmart.com/ip/Baby-Relax-Toddler-Bed-White/13008311?sourceid=1500000000000003260370&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=13008311
  6. I got a great toddler bed at target for $70, he's been in it almost a year. It was easy for (my husband) to put together. I borrowed my friends explorer and it turned out the box was tiny. http://www.target.com/Delta-Children%E2%80%99s-Products-Toddler-Bed/dp/B002XPJU0G/ref=br_1_4?ie=UTF8&id=Delta%20Children%E2%80%99s%20Products%20Toddler%20Bed&node=3052451&searchSize=30&searchView=grid5&searchPage=1&sr=1-4&qid=1285861342&rh=&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=pmrank&frombrowse=1 Sorry the link is a mile long. I haven't bought from IKEA, but my sister does and then bitches about how hard things are to put together.
  7. IKEA is *the* place to go if you live in NYC. Everyone in NYC has some IKEA furniture in their apartment, it's good stuff. You just have to put it together.
  8. We have the wooden cube storage bookcases for toys. Its very sturdy. But it really depends on the item, you really need to walk around and shake the stuff. I also really like their foam mattresses. Also shipping can be outrageous if you are not close to one, make sure to check on that before getting set on something.
  9. My experience with IKEA is great. I haven't purchased kid furniture, but a lot of other furniture, and was able to put it together, take it apart, and put it back together again, no issues. I had a friend who had an IKEA bunk bed for her two young children. No issues.
  10. My son has that bed, we bought it for the tent that fits on top of it. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20116207 He was almost 3 when we bought it and he's going on 6 now and it's held up well. It uses a twin size mattress; it's not a toddler bed. Both of my boys have a dresser from Ikea, one is made much better than the other. ETA: My children also have the art easel, children's table & chairs, hampers, and storage containers from Ikea. Our rugs, coffee table, end tables, lamp, etc are from Ikea also. I've had no problems w/ any of it. Hence why I keep buying more inexpensive things from them.... It's comparible to some of the furniture I've bought from Crate & Barel and paid a lot more for.
  11. Do it do it do it Here it is playhouse-d up: http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/inspiration/from-kura-loft-bed-to-playhouse-reader-project-109617 Most of my house is Ikea; it is perfect for kids -- looks okay, cheap enough so its getting trashed is not a tragedy. I spent my childhood pleading for their little loft beds each year when the catalogue came out. Every effing year: "No, because you'll outgrow it in no time. You'll think it's babyish and then we'd have to go out and buy you a new bed." Every year!! Which meant that in my _twenties_ I had to go out and buy something like this: http://www.divorcemag.com/images/Image/ikeaPE060576.jpg because of all that deprivation in my childhood. Be kind and let him get "loft bed" out of his system now, so he doesn't embarrass himself later. We have a bit of kiddie Ikea here and it's great -- this in particular http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40100253 is wonderful; I would've adored a chair like that as a kid. My daughter uses it as both play spot and as relaxation hideaway.
  12. Love IKEA! Just passed on my toy boxes (I had three of them). Dresser went to the road and was promptly picked up by another to make way for my new IKEA dresser. (I think my little one used the drawer as a step ladder! and it broke, but was still in good shape otherwise). I almost cried when I got rid of the coffee table/kid's craft table - there was a lot of living on that thing! We just furnished the basement with the last of IKEA's ivar shelving (discontinued :( last april! Billy shelving all over the house. Twin bed in the guest room. Billy shelving in our boy's room. Desk and accessories, storage unit, and cardboard storage boxes for a steal! I want: lights to hang in the rafters of my basement - IKEA has really cool ones! When you are constantly changing your mind - who needs to "invest" in "heirloom" pieces?
  13. Yes, we've bought some regular furniture there (our entire living room, minus couch) and have some kiddie stuff too. That's what happens when you live 15 min from an IKEA... All of it has held up really well. This is actually our second LR set from IKEA, we only got a new one because we changed styles, the other is in the basement and still looks great. Recently we bought a tot bed for Elyse and after comparing what I could get at Target/Walmart and IKEA we went with an all wood number from Walmart for $59. It the same one Adrian linked to but without the drawer. It's held up great for 6 months now and I don't see it falling apart any time soon. The main reason we didn't go with IKEA is because I didn't find one that had suitable railings on it. With the one you posted it seems he could fall out easily. Looks great for playing though, K's link was neat.
