What color paint with dark gray carpet in a bedroom?

Dark gray carpet and its for a medium sized bedroom. I was thinking about involving stripes of some sort and metallic paint perhaps and there is a piece of molding 1/3 of the way up each wall. Any suggestions? thanks!

  1. The silver metallic would look great BUT to answer you better....What color is the furniture and trim and bedding....Are you considering new bedding? What other colors are you comfortable with. What style are you looking for. Are you male or female and a teen or older.
  2. It realy depends on how much light you have comming in to the room and what furnishings you want to put in there as well Your best bet may be to get a few colour swatches and see how they look in different light pop in to your local bristol store they have great size chips and will take the time to help you with your queries You could use a couple of colours if you have a moulding but be carefull not to create to many colours we find neutral pallets are the most popular at present latte and coffee colours Hope this helps Ken Owner Bristol Norwest Sydney
  3. Dark gray or really any shade of gray is a nice color to work with. There are so many options. Here are some of the colors that go really well with gray... Many shades of light blue or light blue grays Soft pinks, yellows, shades of gray, taupe, light tans, lavenders, pale yellow/greens. Since you have the trim around the room, you could opt to paint the top one color and the bottom a coordinating color but I always find that to make a room appear smaller and shorter, broken up. Not my first choice when painting for clients. One dining room I did was in reds. The top was medium and deep red stripes, the stripes were sponged on to look more opaque then the bottom was painted the dark color red from the striping. The trim was white around the entire room, windows, doors, etc. It looked great. Even though the wall had the mid-way white trim, the continuous red/reds made the wall appear unbroken. You might consider this when painting your room. Another idea about the striping, if you want to make the striping subtle, you can paint the top and bottom of the walls with the same color in a latex satin finish, then get a quart of the same color in a semi-gloss to paint the stripes. They would show up as shinier than the wall color. This looks nice too. If you were to paint the walls in lavenders for instance, you could do either the top or bottom in the stripes, using a lavender and a lavender gray then paint the other part of the wall (top or bottom) in one of the striping colors. As for the molding/trim, it should be the same color throughout the room, doors, windows, floor trim, etc. all the same color, so keep that in mind when choosing your paint color. You want colors that compliment the existing trim. Use latex, interior. I really like Olympic Premium 0 VOC, no odor, goes on beautifully. Only $22. a gallon. Put the paint on lightly or with a sponge and remove the tape about 5 mins. after the stripe is painted, before it dries.
  4. Flip though some wallpaper books for striped. metallic wallpaper. Paper only the section from the floor up to the molding. ( It's called a chair rail when it's at that level on the wall). That can be painted a metallic silver Red and silver (or chrome) accessories will bring light. New comforter? If you are female, consider a pretty floral with lavender and white in the print,. For artwork, bring some red or burgundy in.
  5. You could go anywhere from creams to light pinks or sage/celery. I would get the bedding first, as I've found it's difficult to find bedding to match once you've already painted the walls.
  6. Wow. Stripes, metallic paint and molding...sounds like a lot going on, I like it, very bold and daring. Because thtat's a lot of visual activity, I'd keep the colors simple or it will be garish - or hey, if you want really bright, lime green and hot pink. But for a more livable room, I'd keep the paint colors neutral. That doesn't have to mean boring. Your gray probably also has some blue or taupe in it, you could go with light and medium light tones of the same color. Your metallic will also tone into colors, silvers tend to go blue or grey or taupe, bronzes are browner and golder. Gold has a little red and obviously ambery yellows. I'd keep the colors of the paint closely related to the color tones in your grey carpet and whatever metallic you use. This gives you a solid base that has a number of elements that are united, then if you want brighter color or accent colors bring them in in more easily changed decorative items. Just my thoughts...
