How much was his commission if his sales totaled $984.00? 4) A young college student earns money selling magazine subscriptions.her commission is 5%. if each subscription costs $25, and she sold 160 subscriptions, how much was her commission?

- Oh Mana! Those old percentages get to all of us from time to time. Let's be sure you and I fully understand that little % sign. It comes from French meaning "pour cent" with pour meaning for and cent indicate 100 like in century. So , for what ever amount is shown, say 5% means 5 out of or for each 100., or 5/100, or 1/20 0r .05 in the decimal system.1) .04X=11.96 , X = 11.96/.04=$299 Proof: .04 x 299=11.96 2.) I don't know if you mean total discounts or stepped discounts such as 12% first,8% on balance and another 4% stacked onto final balance.: However adding up the percentages one gets 24% or 24/100=4/25=.24 . Just multiply the total by the propre percen in fraction or decimal and you will get how much the discount is. 3.) .08x 984=$78.72 commision 4.).05 x 25 x 160=$200 commision. Hope this helps.
