Why does the media lie about the amount of money people recieve on welfare or how the goverment helps them?

I was present during a Toronto Star interview on a single father who had a 5yr old boy and a 3 yr old girl to raise. His wife became ill and just left. His job had long hours.Because of long hours he quit so he could raise his kids.He applied to welfare and they told him to give the kids up for adoption as being a male he would be unable to look after them. This was not reported in the Star, I wonder why? Next, he was given $900 a month to live on.Luckily he didn't smoke or drink. His rent was $750 a month for a 2 bedroom bsmt apt. This was not one of those geared-to-income places but the cheapest place he could find in Scarborough. The Toronto Star reported that he received $1200 a month. Money from goverment for low income families is deducted from their cheques. I asked the Toronto Star why they had blatantly lied and left out details they said if they hadn't they would not be allowed to run the story.Who would stop it?NO ANSWER GIVEN!At the time,no goverment help for single MALE parents

  1. I don't know about where you live but here in PA they also count the amount of money the government gives out in foodstamps and other assistance that is a cash benefit, example: vouchers for utility bills, childcare, gas money, and clothing allowances. They usually provide these things as tools to temporarily help some who like the case you descibed. My father raised me and my siblings after my mother left-he also took custody of her child from a previous marriage. He was able to have a very successful career and all of his children, including his step-children (he remarried after we were all in college), are all self-sufficent, productive members of society.
  2. They may very well count other things that your friend qualifies for. Other wise I don't know. I have never seen an article done on government income really. My son does not receive mucy, however my husband does have a job. Oh and plenty of men are able to raise children. We have two single fathers in our church who have full custidy of their children and do a great job at it. This one man has two daughters. They are a bit Tom boyish, but none the worse for the wear, and when it was time for that girly talk, grandmother did it. Men are capable in some cases, and the best man for the job in other cases.
  3. i live in the us and not in Canada so i really can not answer this for you I'm sorry
