Aquaclear with ceramic media - or Penquin Biowheel?
I am having a hardtime deciding between the two.... What are advantages - disadvantages of either... Have you been happier with one than the other? Is one much quieter than the other (the tank is in a bedroom) Thanks a bunch all - Peace - Be well Yeah, I asked the question earlier, but I only got a couple answers, so I thought I would ask when there were more people on....

- i would go with the aqua clear they are my favs and i run one in the tank in my bedroom and they are silent you dont hear nothing
- aqua clear is OK ,its more of a personal preference. but the penguin i think is better cause the bio-wheel will last forever unless it gets damaged ant the sound is soothing.
- The Penguin is good if you can find the "refillable" cartridges, the ones that you can fill with your own media. These are excellent and economical and make a great bio-filter with the wheel providing a great spot for bacteria to grow. If you are bound to the pre-loaded filter cartridges these are a bit expensive, because the charcoal is only usable for 30 days. The Aquaclear is the one that I use the most,I like the ease of maintenance and easy to get spare parts. I usually run them with just a sponge, and rinse the sponge in water drawn right from the tank every water change. They provide a good bio-filter,and the ease of cleaning takes a little of the effort out of water changes. I throw in a filter bag full of rinsed charcoal a few times a year for chemical filtration, but I don't run carbon continuously. The Aquaclear is probably the quieter of the two but only by a tiny bit,and neither should keep you awake, you'll quickly become accustomed to the water sound and find it relaxing.
- For the bedroom i would use the aqua-clear rather than the penguin simply because of the noise. I own a Penguin 200 and love it but it tends to be noisy.
