I have a modest home but would like to design my bedroom to be a beautiful sanctuary to wake up to?
I do like tropical but other than that I would like individual suggestions on things I can do to make my bedroom something special. It is a medium-size bedroom.

- Go to IKEA! I love their furniture....nice, and not to expensive. They have tropical stuff too. www.ikea-usa.com
- Get a beautiful luxury bedding ensemble, like one of these: http://www.softsurroundings.com/Bedding_&_Bath/Bedding_ensembles/ I love the Verona Collection.
- Pick a color that you find relaxing. Generally decorators use greens and beige or tan for relaxing atmosphere. I just did my bedroom in a light taupe (grayish tan) with soft greens and blues and it softened the whole room and changed the feel completely.
- Here's what we did in our bedroom, and we get nothing but compliments on it. Granted, it's a larger bedroom, so you'll have to judge to see if it works for you... 1. We went two-tone on the walls, and - despite how many people say you can't or shouldn't do this - we used the light color (a rich cream) on the bottom and a dark color (deep wine) on the top. 2. A nice white MDF chair rail between the two was fairly inexpensive (about 70 cents per foot), but made a huge difference in the look. 3. Coordinating curtains and duvet cover. The duvet cover also came with more pillows shams than we could ever use, so we turned two of them into artwork that we framed and hung on the wall. 4. Although we couldn't quite go for crown moulding, instead we took one of those "paintable" white textured wallpaper borders and put it along the ceiling to give a mock-crown-moulding look. 5. For art, we went with a couple of tapestry wall hangings, which provided art with the warmth of fabric (see source below). The end result - in my opinion - is stunning. :D
