Decorating the bedroom need some ideas?
My boyfriend and I are busy decorating our first house before we can move in. We are onto the bedroom and need a cheap easy but stylish way of decorating it. There is a hideous red carpet down at the mo which will go eventually...if i have my way! He has bought a black/white duvet set with diamond pattern on, ( I havent seen it yet) and he was wanting to just paper the room white i think it would look too cold. The paper has to be embossed kind due to the state of the walls. He also has some black and white prints of New York he is putting up. What colour schemes could we use that the duvet cover would go with? Even if we just painted the 1 wall that the bed head goes against... I wouldnt really like just black and white (im sunderland lol) Anyone with any ideas? its only a small room. Basically a black n white theme without it looking like a Maggie's (newcastle supporter lol) bedroom Personally I like creams and browns but i got my way in the living room lol

- add some Red. .
- Ok ,if the room is small--use gold behind the headboard-I feel red is to much for a small space-please respect some of his taste-if you love him-most fellows dont do anything to help!
- A light blue, like Sherwin Williams' "swimming" would be *beautiful* with black & white, and blue is the perfect color to use in the bedroom because it's very calming & serene. http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp If that blue does not coordinate well with the shades in the carpet, then try a green - like "mint condition", b/c that is red's complimentary color on the color wheel.
- if you want just Black & white then you could do just that, but you're right.. it will be very stark. you could try to bring in just a tad of beige or maybe gray into the room. for color, anything will coordinate with black and white. try looking at Benj. moore HC-43 tyler taupe.. it's a deep tan. would give you a very strong look. there is a type of paint out there in home improvement world that is like a clear acrylic. hang aluminum foil on the entire bed wall, paint a tad of black and white on it...get creative you could almost just make random marks or an intricate design... then paint this clear paint over the foil to seal it in. would be very dramatic and funky.
- i would keep most of the white to keep the room from appearing too small with a dark color. Be careful not to add too much black to the room. I agree with you, since it is a bedroom, black and white would be a bit too wide eyed and shocking everytime you go there to rest. But.................it can work if you tone it down a bit. The bones of black and white are great ......i suggest.... that you use a medium green color behind the bed.....then incorporate green accents around the room. Black and white looks very 'sterile' and industrial ....so add some life to the room....i suggest some live full looking green plants in black and white funky containers that make a big bold statement. Also ...use empty green glass vases to add to the contemporary look of the room ....yet add some color and interest. You could even use glass bowls .....they are great as 'catch alls' on the dressers. For the window treatment....i suggest a sheer medium green scarf to drape over the top and just hang to the floor on either side. I have included a fabric sample to give you an idea of the color I am talking about. Medium Green color: http://www.fabric.com/creativity-headquarters-the-pajama-game-silk-charmeuse-charmeuse-silk-emerald.aspx?SearchProductID=a664faf8-40a1-477e-9afb-2f9f85793097 Mint would make a nice statement...and the sheen of this one is great as well....texture to add more interest ...just one more element to make the room great : http://www.fabric.com/quilting-fabric-shop-blenders-by-color-quilting-fabric-blenders-greens-kona-cotton-mint.aspx Very neat print that would tie in the black and the white with the green aspect.....very very dramatic...and my personal pick: http://www.fabric.com/quilting-fabric-shop-by-category-floral-quilting-fabrics-florentine-florentine-firenze-floreale-stripe-gold.aspx?SearchProductID=d5fef258-b01f-455c-9f74-79abd7d717ab
- Would rather have the red on the floor instead of the walls, so maybe the carpet isn't so bad after all. Think I would try to "soften" the stark black and white by using inexpensive white sheers hung ceiling to floor behind the bed and perhaps one on each side of the bed & draped to ceiling hooks at the foot of the bed. Then add more color with decorative bed pillows and light fixtues.
- I would go for matt black main wall, matt paint hides the bad walls & can look really stylish. Team it with Silver coloured chandeliers & wall lights on the black wall, can pick up some really modern cheap ones. Use as much silver as you can & may be a few mirrors to give the impression of space. Go for minimal furniture & the surrounding walls paint matt white, is cheaper than paper & looks a million times better. If you do want to go for paper, use the thickest lining paper you can find embossed looks cheap & tacky now & paint the same matt white. The colour of the carpet is fantastic, well that's assuming it's deep red as black, white & red really set each other off.
